Description

Unskippable Dialogue is an Irish gaming podcast about the games we can’t stop thinking about long after the credits roll. Every week, we break down new releases, revisit cult classics, and argue (politely… mostly) about what works, what doesn’t, and why some games deserve a second chance. Expect honest video game reviews, development stories worth telling, and conversations that drift naturally from indie oddities to blockbuster misfires. We’re big on context, allergic to hype, and not afraid to admit when nostalgia is doing the heavy lifting. If you’re into gaming podcasts that value curiosity over clickbait, and you enjoy a bit of sarcasm with your save files, this is the show for you. No hot-take farming. No influencer energy. Just thoughtful chat, questionable opinions, and the occasional boss fight we absolutely overthought. Plug in. Don’t skip the dialogue. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

066 - Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Review: 60 Hours, Master Rank, and a Game Nobody’s Playing
2026/10/21
Conor has put 60 hours into Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the 4v4 Marvel fighting game from Arc System Works (the Dragon Ball FighterZ and Guilty Gear people). He’s reached Master rank; he’s roughly 1,500th in the world, and he thinks it might be one of the best fighting games ever made. He also thinks it’s dying, and this week he takes Pearse through why. We get into how the game actually works (four characters, one shared health bar, and an assist system that turns into a very sweaty active-tag meta at the top), why bronze to silver is miserable, why gold to Vibranium is some of the most fun Conor has ever had in a game, and the Ms Marvel strategy that got him to Master without ever really learning a second character. Plus the Deadpool tell, why everyone in Master plays Doom, Blade, Magik and Spider-Man, and the PSN opponent who thought Conor was t********g him. Then the sad bit. A broken PC launch, a PSN account requirement locking out whole countries, cross-play that doesn’t hold up, and a 10-year support promise that looks shaky when the Steam player count is in double digits. Conor’s verdict on whether it survives 2027, which DLC he wants (Winter Soldier, Juggernaut, Odin), and the one word he gives it anyway. Also in this episode: the Malfoid art trend taking over Conor’s phone, Kingdom Hearts IV and Star Wars, Splatoon 3 and Ocarina of Time on the way, and some indie dev interviews lined up. 065 - Little Kitty, Big City: The Cosy Cat Game You Can Beat in an Afternoon
2026/10/07
It's Miss Kitty's first birthday in the house, so this week Pearse takes Conor through Little Kitty, Big City, the cosy open-world cat game from Double Dagger Studio. You're a black cat who tumbles off a high-rise balcony, and all you want is to get home. To do that, you'll need fish, a lot of shinies, and a bit of help from a crow, a mad scientist tanuki and a very stressed dad duck. We get into why it's nothing like Stray (no matter what the internet tells you), the Untitled Goose Game joy of tripping people up and nicking their bagels, 64 hats to collect, nap spots, and how a Valve veteran who worked on Half-Life 2 and Portal 2 ended up making one of the chillest games around. It's a short one, a lovely palate cleanser, and it's still getting free updates two years on. Is it worth the price? Pearse has thoughts. Spoiler warning for the ending, which we absolutely loved. Also in this episode: a Cuphead music box, the AI cat musician that fooled Pearse, the funniest Lionel Hutz moment in The Simpsons, a Hit and Run remake rumour, Conor finishing 13 Sentinels, Longlegs, and our Halloween plans (House of the Dead, anyone?). 064 - Ocarina of Time Remake, Metroid Ravenous & Final Fantasy VII Revelation: Nintendo Direct and State of Play Reactions | Ep. 64
2026/09/23
It's a news one this week. Pearse and Conor dig into Nintendo's two-day Direct double-header and the latest State of Play, starting with the big one: the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct and the Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2. Conor is forced to revise his all-time trailer rankings, we debate the new art style (and whether Star Fox's character models deserve the same defence), and lose it a little over the thought of a fully orchestrated soundtrack. Plus: a proper jump button, full camera control, humming into the mic, and why that "Press A to jump" tutorial font has to go. From Wednesday's Direct, Metroid Ravenous steals the show as a follow-up to Dread, and Samus has never looked cooler. We also get into open-world Kirby, Star Fox's new battle mode, Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 on Switch 2, the Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 remakes, The Witcher 3 remaster and the return of Professor Layton. Over on State of Play: Zach Cregger's Resident Evil film, whether the PS5 generation has been a bit of a snooze, and a long, loving deep dive into Final Fantasy VII Revelation. An "open planet", a new job system, transmog, and a Knights of the Round fight that was sent back for being too easy. Conor has never been more excited for a game. Pearse still hasn't finished Rebirth. Something has to give. Also in this episode: GTA VI at 30fps, Metal Gear Solid 4 memories, Weapons vs Barbarian, and a framed Final Fantasy VII giveaway on the way. New to the show? 063 - Crow Country: The PS1-Style Survival Horror Gem You Can Beat in a Day
2026/08/05
Welcome to Crow Country, the abandoned theme park where the "guests" never left. This week on Unskippable Dialogue, your favourite gaming podcast heads to 1990s Georgia for SFB Games' Crow Country, the PS1-style survival horror gem from the makers of Snipperclips that channels classic Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis and Final Fantasy VII in one gorgeously low-poly package. Pearse takes Connor through the mystery of missing park owner Edward Crow, the monsters known only as "guests", and a story that starts as a haunted theme park romp and ends somewhere much, much stranger (2106, remember that number). We get into why the world-building punches so far above its weight, whether modern horror games have lost the ability to actually scare us, tank controls, exploration mode, and why this is the perfect indie horror game to beat in a single afternoon. Full spoilers ahead, you've been warned. Also in this episode: Majora's Mask and the best (and bleakest) Zelda atmosphere ever made, Marvel Tokon beta impressions, Mortal Kombat 2 vs the original, that Resident Evil movie trailer, Hades II, Dexter, Heroes, and one podcast review we'll never emotionally recover from. 062 - The New E3 — Summer Game Fest, State of Play & the Worst Nintendo Direct of All Time?
2026/06/24
Pearse and Conor are back in the room (and back to format) to break down the biggest week in gaming: Summer Game Fest, the new "E3." Across one packed episode, they run down State of Play, the June 9th Nintendo Direct, and the Summer Game Fest showcase itself, covering everything Sony, Xbox, Nintendo, and the major publishers brought to the table. On the docket: Marvel's Wolverine and its divisive Jean Grey design, the Saros / God of War spin-off, Silent Hill Townfall, and the absolutely stacked September–October release window that has everyone running scared of GTA. The lads dig into the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake (Claire's back, and Steve needs fixing), Capcom's unstoppable RE Engine streak, Metaphor: ReFantazio and Final Fantasy: Revelations hitting Switch 2, plus Kingdom Hearts IV, Elden Ring on Switch, and Devil May Cry 5 running at 120fps on handheld. Then there's the Direct that left Conor convinced Nintendo make nothing he cares about until a three-note ocarina and a single tapestry made him consider buying a Switch 2 after all. A full breakdown of the Ocarina of Time remake: faithful remaster or full reimagining? And finally, the one Pearse has been wishing for, Final Fantasy VII Remake's third entry, Revelations, complete with a job system, a new Sephiroth, and Tifa joining Street Fighter 6. Plus, The Wolf Among Us 2 rises from vaporware, and the return of the weekly* episode. Callbacks to the RE Requiem and Rún Stiúideo episodes throughout. New episodes weekly.* (*asterisk doing heavy lifting.) UD is a weekly Irish gaming podcast serving up honest game reviews, deep dives, retro throwbacks, and sharp commentary on the world of gaming. 061 - Rún Stiúideo on The Corner Café: An Irish Folklore Cyberpunk Café Sim
2026/06/17
On Episode 61 of Unskippable Dialogue, we welcome our first-ever guests: Eoghan Moylan and Caoimhe Gunn of Rún Stiúideo, the Galway-and Cork-based indie studio behind The Corner Café, a cosy-ish café simulator set in a cyberpunk Galway City of 2160, steeped in Irish folklore and mythology. We dig into where the idea came from, why an independent café is the perfect cyberpunk underdog, and how the Tuatha Dé Danann, Fomorians and a silver-armed Nuada end up sharing a city with hover mopeds and corporate dystopia. Eoghan talks through the move from software engineering to solo game development; the realities of building a game across every discipline yourself; community health mechanics with real consequences; financial-fraud side quests; chicken fillet rolls; and the long road to a Steam launch (with a Switch port in their sights). Expect tangents on Cyberpunk 2077, Skyrim, Baldur's Gate 3, Stardew Valley, and why you really shouldn't review-bomb the work of two people. A great listen for fans of indie gaming, Irish game development, cosy games, and anyone who loves hearing how small studios actually get made. 060 - Resident Evil Requiem Review – Leon’s Back, Grace Goes First‑Person, and We’re Finally Weekly (Maybe)
2026/05/13
Buckle up, dear listeners, the lunar eclipse of podcast uploads returns! In this episode of Unskippable Dialogue, your favourite not‑quite‑weekly Irish gaming hosts finally play and finish the same game at the same time: Resident Evil 9: Requiem. We chat about Capcom’s RE Engine magic, how Leon and Grace’s adventures blend first‑person chills and third‑person thrills, and whether the rumoured open‑world concept would have been a nightmare. Pearse reports from the business‑class handheld front with the Nintendo Switch 2 version (spoiler: it runs beautifully and fits in a carry‑on), while Conor gushes over the PS5’s photorealistic gore and DualSense haptics. We also dive into the game’s bonkers plot twists, memorable boss fights, and the chaos of returning to Raccoon City. If that wasn’t enough, there’s plenty of retro game news and wild tangents: we roast Carrie Bradshaw, reminisce about Street Fighter vs Tekken, dunk on Kingdom Hearts III, and mourn the mythical weekly schedule. It’s everything you expect from an Irish gaming podcast: dry humour, unfiltered opinion, and lots of chat about the latest and greatest in game development and gaming news. Whether you’re here for survival‑horror analysis, retro game nostalgia or just two lads who swear a lot, this is an episode you won’t want to skip. 059 - Rise of the Tomb Raider Review – Worth Playing or One to Skip? | Irish Gaming Podcast
2026/04/01
Is Rise of the Tomb Raider actually worth your time, or is it one of those games you play for a few hours and quietly abandon? This week on Unskippable Dialogue, we dig into Lara Croft’s second outing in the reboot trilogy and figure out why it never quite clicks. On paper, it has everything—big set pieces, slick traversal, stealth combat, but something about it feels… off. We get into: Why the gameplay loop starts to feel like busyworkThe difference between a world that pulls you in and one that just gives you a checklistStory moments that should land but don’tHow it stacks up against Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed, and other open-world gamesWhy some games feel worth exploring, and others feel like a chore There’s also the usual nonsense, late-night YouTube rabbit holes, questionable comparisons, and a fair bit of roasting along the way. If you’re thinking about playing Rise of the Tomb Raider, or you’ve bounced off it before, this one will help you decide if it’s worth another go. 058 - Slay the Princess – The Indie Horror Masterpiece You Can’t Trust
2026/03/11
In this episode of Unskippable Dialogue – the Irish gaming podcast, Pearse and Conor dive into Slay the Princess, the critically acclaimed indie horror visual novel from Black Tabby Games. Originally released on PC and recently expanded with The Pristine Cut for consoles, Slay the Princess challenges players with a deceptively simple mission: go into the basement and kill the princess before she destroys the world. Easy, right? Not quite. What unfolds is a twisted psychological narrative filled with branching choices, unreliable narrators, disturbing transformations, and multiple timelines, where every decision changes the story in unexpected ways. In this episode, we discuss: What makes Slay the Princess such a standout indie horror gameHow the visual novel format creates tension and storytelling depthThe game’s themes of trust, control, perception, and identityWhy the Pristine Cut release has brought the game to a wider audienceWhether Slay the Princess belongs among the best narrative games of the decadeI f you enjoy indie games, narrative-driven horror, or visual novels, this is a game (and episode) you won’t want to skip. 🎧 Unskippable Dialogue is the Irish gaming podcast covering video game reviews, retro gaming, and the biggest stories in gaming every week. 057 - Sorry We're Closed - Love, Demons & Corner Shops
2026/02/11
In this week’s episode of Unskippable Dialogue – your favourite Irish gaming podcast – Pearse and co‑host dive deep into Sorry We’re Closed, the indie survival‑horror game that mixes PS1 nostalgia with queer romance, satanic curses and supermarket shelves. Expect witty banter about love as horror, capitalism as the real monster, and whether clunky combat can actually make a game scarier. We unpack developer à la mode games’ journey, publisher Akupara Games’ support, and the awards buzz surrounding this gem. Plus: our usual dose of gaming news, retro tidbits and humour that only an Irish video game podcast can deliver. Don’t miss this unskippable chat about one of 2024’s most surprising indie hits! 056 - Cyberpunk 2077: The Most Cyber Disaster of All Time (Until It Wasn’t)
2026/01/21
In this episode of Unskippable Dialogue, your favourite Irish gaming podcast with more dry humour than a Bethesda bug log, Conor takes on Cyberpunk 2077, from Keanu-powered hype to broken promises and the mother of all patch notes. We relive the pre-order chaos, the pantsless NPCs, the legendary yellow apology screens, and that time Sony booted the game from its own shop. But it’s not all memes and meltdowns. Cyberpunk didn’t just survive; it evolved. Thanks to relentless fixes, community feedback, and the genuinely excellent Phantom Liberty expansion, Night City finally works (and it’s fun now, who knew?). So, was the wait worth it? Did CDPR earn their redemption? Is it actually a good game now? 055 - Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, The Game the Internet Invented vs the One We Got
2026/01/14
This week on Unskippable Dialogue, Pearse finally sits down with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a game that spent seven years in development, one very public reset, and somehow still arrived carrying the weight of everyone’s expectations like a cursed Chozo artefact. We talk about the logo-only reveal back in 2017, the 2019 development restart, and how Beyond opens feeling more like Halo than Metroid, Space Pirates, marines everywhere… and then they vanish completely. Classic. There’s a deep dive into scanning (too much of it), the poorly signposted point of no return that will absolutely ruin your 100% run, and why Metroid Prime Hunters somehow has more mechanical variety than a modern flagship sequel. We also get into Nintendo briefly flirting with open-world design because Breath of the Wild existed, and why Metroid absolutely does not need that energy. Boss fights come in for a hammering, especially the final encounter, which ignores everything Metroid bosses traditionally teach you and replaces it with escort mechanics, damage sponges, and vibes. Bad vibes. By the end of it, Pearse lands where he’s been circling all episode: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a good game that never had a chance. Not because it’s bad, but because the internet decided it had to be transcendent. A calm, spoiler-aware, Irish gaming podcast take on one of Nintendo’s most over-argued-about releases. 054 - The Skippies 2025: Our Extremely Serious Take on The Game Awards
2025/12/17
The Game Awards 2025 are done, dusted, and already being argued about online, so naturally, Unskippable Dialogue decided to do our own version. Welcome to The Skippies. In this episode, Pearse and Conor break down The Game Awards 2025 from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, covering the big winners, the obvious winners, and the ones that caused a bit of side-eye. We talk Clair Obscur cleaning up, Battlefield 6 taking best audio, No Man’s Sky still refusing to die, and why GTA 6 being “Most Anticipated” surprised absolutely nobody. But let’s be honest, nobody watches The Game Awards for the awards. We dig into the trailers (or lack thereof), why this felt like a quieter year, and how Nintendo Directs now regularly outperform Geoff Keighley’s big night. There’s also a healthy amount of slagging, nostalgia for E3, praise where it’s deserved, and frustration where it isn’t. We also hand out our own personal awards, talk Game of the Year, surprises of 2025, what disappointed us, and what we’re actually excited to play next. Expect opinions on Pragmata, future Capcom games, retro-futurism in sci-fi, and why “polished white sci-fi” does absolutely nothing for us anymore  As ever, it’s a mix of: Game Awards analysisGaming industry chatHot takes that may age terribly If you’re looking for a Game Awards 2025 podcast, an Irish gaming podcast, or just want a slightly unhinged end-of-year gaming chat — this one’s for you. 053 - Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion: Beta Ray Bill, Baldness & Beat-’Em-Ups!
2025/12/10
Get ready for another instalment of your favourite Irish gaming podcast! In this episode, Conor and the Tokken lads trade in pizza for Power Cosmic as they tackle Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion – the brand‑new beat‑’em‑up from Tribute Games and Dotemu. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when Spider‑Man teams up with Nova or why Beta Ray Bill’s Stormbreaker hovers mid‑screen, we’ve got you covered. The lads chat about their experiences with the game’s Cosmic Swap system, the deep‑cut roster (hello, Cosmic Ghost Rider!), and how the boss fights stack up against  TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. There’s a discussion on difficulty spikes, co‑op chaos, and whether this successor to Shredder’s Revenge lives up to the hype. It wouldn’t be an Irish gaming podcast without a tangent or two: expect side‑quests into hair loss treatments, windy weather in Belfast, and why Robbie Reyes isn’t in space (yet). Whether you’re here for retro gaming news, the latest Marvel release, or enjoy dry banter about action figures and weaves, this episode will tickle your funny bone while keeping things informative. 052 - Dispatch – The Superhero Telltale Successor We Didn’t See Coming
2025/12/03
In this week’s episode of Unskippable Dialogue, the Irish gaming podcast for gamers who prefer their heroics with a dash of chaos and a hint of Buldak hot sauce. Conor takes the lead and reviews Dispatch, the new superhero narrative adventure from AdHoc Games, built by former Telltale devs and rescued from oblivion by Critical Role. Across 7 hours of sharp writing, deeply cursed characters, messy romances, and a dispatch system that’s basically Coffee Talk meets XCOM, Dispatch absolutely floored us and Conor explains precisely why this choice-driven story has instantly become one of the best narrative games in years. From Robert Robertson’s washed-up post-superhero midlife crisis,to the Z-Team of reformed villains (including a tiny Irish man whose entire personality is punching people in the dick),to the phenomenal voice cast (Aaron Paul, Matt Mercer, Alanna Pearce, MoistCr1tikal, JackSepticEye),We also derail into: – cursed AI “cup buck” lads, – which sauces are the sauciest, – four-chan as a character-creation engine, – romancing tall women with enchanted amulets, – and why the UNREAL amount of dog hair in Connor’s throat is absolutely a supervillain origin story. I f you love: gaming podcasts, narrative games, Telltale-style storytelling, Critical Role, indie game reviews, or two Irish lads laughing until they nearly die on mic. This episode is unskippable.
