In this episode, I speak with counseling master student, Sam Pindur. Sam is currently working in the inpatient psychiatric hospital setting and earning her master's degree on the side. The current health care system in the U.S. is very broken. Profit, liability, and insurance checklists come far before patient care. In order to make changes in the industry, people must be willing to stand up and speak about the injustices that are occurring. In this episode, Sam and I do just that. We also throw in some mental health resources, life coaching, and conversation about tyrannical workplaces. In this episode, I speak with Restaurant Manager/Graphic Designer Andrew Schnitker. Today, I have a very special episode for you. This will be the first solo episode where I (Andrew) speak alone in an educational format. In this episode, I cover the seven basic perspectives in psychology. They are the psychodynamic, behavioral, humanistic, cognitive, sociocultural, biological, and evolutionary perspectives. As a bonus, I also touch on the positive and, my personal favorite, the existential perspectives. Understanding these perspectives is paramount in moving forward with your understanding of the mind. In order to know where we are and where we need to go, we must first understand where we have been. Today, we use a mix of all seven (and more) of these perspectives to get a holistic understanding of the individual. In this episode, I speak with marijuana professional Mitchell Stencel. Mitch and I have been very close friends since 2000 when we moved in next door to each other. Mitch is a great perspective to have on the podcast and has a ton of interesting life experiences. He currently works in the marijuana industry in Lansing, Michigan, the state’s capital. It has only taken him a year to become a manager of a six-employee team. Over the last year, he has become much more secure in his plans for the future and is excited to be on the frontline of this upcoming industry. In this episode, I speak with social worker, Sophia Considine. Sophia and I work at the psychiatric hospital together. She is my favorite social worker for a number of reasons but first and foremost because of her outlook on life and mental health. In this episode, I speak with aspiring psychiatrist and author Don Rea. Don and I work together as mental health technicians at a psychiatric hospital. Don and I start off by speaking about his journey from high school to working at the psych hospital and we touch on his goals of becoming a psychiatrist. In this episode, I speak with my friend and coworker Daniel Villalpando. Daniel and I have worked together as mental health technicians for only about 2 months now in the adult female unit at our psychiatric hospital. However, he has been there for about a year total and I have been there (on both the adult women and men's unit) for about 8 months. Daniel is currently applying for medical school for his second year on his journey to get into medicine, but more specifically psychiatry. We talk about his past major of business in college and how he eventually made the decision to switch over to mental healthcare. We also talk about Adderall (ADD for ALL), ADHD, depression, and antidepressants. Although the current system for inpatient mental healthcare is far better than having no system at all, we talk about some things that could be improved to help both the patients and staff more effectively. This conversation has been going on for about 2 months already and I am so happy that he finally decided to come on the podcast. In this episode, I speak with artist Casey O'Brien. I have known Casey since my first job working at a daycare in an athletic club. We have been friends for about a decade now, and we have taken entirely different approaches to getting our lives together. In this episode, I speak with my older brother, Gimmy Cipriano... Yes, Gimmy with a G. My dad always says there is no J in the Italian alphabet. Gimmy, along with Sara from episode 2, have been some of the big influences that encouraged me to start the Drift Proof Podcast! Like me, Gimmy is an expert in entry-level jobs and has been searching for a direction to take his life for a long time. He has tried everything from ice cream truck driver to headhunter/talent acquisition specialist. He has been doing stand-up comedy for about 7 years now and it should go without saying that he has a great sense of humor about life. He currently drives for DoorDash but still finds time to continue his stand-up comedy on the side. In order to get a little bit more direction and structure on his career in entertainment, he will begin a year-long film/production school in the fall of this year. Our chemistry is amazing and he has a lot of insight on both drifting through life and choosing to follow your dreams.
