The raag as we know today was introduced by Miya Tansen, the legendary 16th century composer in emperor Akbar's court. Because of being sung in the Darbar most often, the Kanada raag became Darbari Kanada. We begin the episode with a popular Ghazal, followed by the raag parichay and a bandish recital. Welcome to Sur Sadhana with Gandhaar Madhyam. In this episode, we introduce to you — Raag Vrindavani Sarang. This raag is also referred to as Brindavani Sarang or Brindabani Sarang. The raag is most popular in Mathura/Vrindavan region, due to a mythological legend involving Lord Krishna. This raag is usually sung in the afternoon, specially during summer season. Ga and Dha sur are varjit in this raag. We begin by an iconic song from the 60s, followed by the raag parichay and a bandish recital.
