Is God being too kind? A prophet gets exactly the outcome he prayed for — and it makes him furious. Not because God failed him, but because God showed mercy to people Jonah never wanted forgiven. Is anyone ever too far gone for God? A runaway prophet. A violent, pagan city. By every human measure, both were lost causes. God disagreed. In Jonah 3, the word of the Lord comes to Jonah "a second time." God is a specialist in second chances — not just for Jonah, but for everyone. He recommissions His reluctant, flawed messenger and sends him into Nineveh, a city that seemed beyond saving. And when God's Word goes out, it does not return empty: the entire city — from the king down — turns to the Lord.
