Music Therapy
2022/04/04
We know that Listening to music can be entertaining, and some research suggests that it might even make you healthier. Music can be a source of pleasure and contentment, but there are many other psychological benefits as well.
Behavioural Economics
2022/03/11
Psychology is deeply woven into economics as well. So if we talk about the basic definition of economics, we say that it is the social science that studies the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. Even from the definition of the subject we see that it focuses on how humans make decisions and their behaviour and interactions with economic agents.
How is Psychology related to Politics
2022/01/29
Any government serious about improving the lives of the public and understanding why intractable social problems persist must ensure that their policies and interventions are based on an in-depth understanding of human behaviour.
Normalisation vs Romanticisation of Mental Health
2022/01/12
Normalisation of Mental Health is extremely important. It is important to make it normal to openly talk about mental health disorders. However, romanticisation of mental illness can contribute to distorted ideas and assumptions and even make mental illness into a fad. Mental illness is complicated; it is not black and white; different levels of severity exist.
Detection of Lies
2021/11/26
Have you ever wished that you had the ability to accurately detect lies and uncover if someone is being dishonest? Most people lie occasionally. These lies are often trivial and essentially inconsequential—such as pretending to like a gift that you actually hated. But in other contexts, deception is more serious and can have harmful effects in areas like criminal justice. Hence, lying is better detected than ignored and tolerated. Unfortunately, it is difficult to detect lies accurately.
Women in Psychology (Part 2)
2021/09/30
In today's episode we talk about Feminine Psychology, coined by Karen Horney. It is an approach that focuses on social, economic, and political issues confronting women all throughout their lives. It can be considered a reaction to male-dominated theories such as Sigmund Freud's view of female sexuality. The groundbreaking works of Karen Horney argued that male realities cannot describe female psychology or define their gender because they are not informed by girls' or women's experiences.
Women in Psychology (Part 1)
2021/09/06
As we start studying or even get introduced to the basics of Psychology, the names Freud, Skinner, and Wundt often top the list of most prominent early psychologists. I found myself wondering if all the early psychologists were men. it is estimated that in the early 1900s, one in 10 psychologists in the United States was a woman. Today, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, the proportion of women in psychology programs is much larger than men. However, in many universities there continues to be a lack of representation of women in the field’s top echelons. Nevertheless there were many women in psychology who made critical contributions and helped shape the development of the field of psychology.
