Description

Welcome to Listen for REAL — a podcast where we expand our perspectives and connect more deeply through earthy conversation, curiosity, and soul-level revelations. I’m Jen Oliver — a woman shaped by a lifetime of privilege, inherited beliefs, and an echo chamber that once kept my limited worldview comfortably intact. That way of living (and viewing others) no longer works for me. It kept me performative, judgmental, and disconnected from the fullest expression of my truth — and distanced from other people. This podcast began as the antidote to that echo chamber. A space to lean into conversation with others whose world view, lived experience or belief system differed from my own. And now, in this new season, the show is evolving. We’re doubling down on the practice of truth-telling - I ask my guests to share a moment of truth or personal revelation that pushes past the more palatable things that we have been trained to say. Each episode brings unfiltered conversations, raw human honesty and courageous storytelling you can't get from scripted media. In addition, you will hear coaching, inner-work tools, and my own admissions to help us all step into a more honest, liberated, expansive way of being. There is no quicker way to pry open my mind than by telling me your truth —- Join the conversation.

They Offered Me a Payout to Stay Quiet. I Said No.
2026/10/14
She ran $580 million in revenue and 10 stores when her boss asked her to lie to her team. Brin'na Rollins-Williams said no, walked away with nothing, and two years later calls it the best decision she's made. This conversation also covers what it costs to stay silent when you know something's wrong, the friendships that didn't survive once she stopped performing for them, and how two years of sobriety cleared enough noise for her to finally hear what her body had been saying all along. Brin'na and Jen talk about the moment speaking up finally outweighed the fear of what it might cost her. Key Topics & Timestamps00:00 — Jen opens the episode and invites Brin'na to talk truth02:07 — Backstory: her stepdad's death in a sprint car race when she was six, and growing up around alcoholism and tiptoeing03:39 — Becoming Target's youngest district senior director in 2019, running $580M across ten stores04:26 — A resume that looked perfect and still felt empty06:39 — The moment her boss asked her to tell her team a lie about a "family emergency"09:31 — Panic attacks, medication before her 33rd birthday, and a body that had been talking the whole time09:43 — Her boss was let go 60 days after Brin'na walked away13:41 — Her two default moves when she's avoiding the truth: going silent, or going all the way blunt17:12 — Mentors who knew and stayed quiet, and the ones who told her to speak up anyway20:04 — Running the financial math on what walking away would actually cost her23:12 — Why this story used to feel soul-crushing, and why it doesn't anymore25:28 — Two years sober, and what she gave up to get there27:07 — Losing friendships that were never really about her29:20 — Declining the severance package and refusing to sign the NDA (non-disclosure agreement)32:19 — The reaction that stung most wasn't pushback, it was silence from people she was close to34:10 — Her stepdad's funeral, the line engraved on his tombstone, and where Legacy Fulfilled came from37:11 — Why leadership behavior, not customer scripts, is what actually builds a culture38:45 — Jen's read on it: "you drink the poison and expect the other person to die"42:38 — How to walk back a hard conversation and rebuild trust without shame Top Quotes"It was about the principle. This isn't what the company stands for, and I know that. This is not the leadership that's represented by the company, and I don't understand why I'm finally speaking up and I'm being told to be quiet and go away. Not happening." — Brin'na"I declined the offer. I refused to sign the non-disclosure agreement, and I decided to step away from my career on my own, without a penny." — Brin'na"The body doesn't lie. The logic is what clouds our understanding of what the body is trying to tell you." — Brin'na"Everyone stays in touch with you until they don't need something from you." — Brin'na"The most beautiful things in life cannot be seen or touched. They must be felt by the heart." — Brin'na, quoting her stepdad's tombstone"You drink the poison, but you expect the other person to die." — Jen"It's okay to own it and move forward, because you'll move forward stronger." — Brin'naResources MentionedLegacy Fulfilled — Brin'na's company, working with leaders on accountability and culture.  Guest Bio: Brin’na Rollins-Williams is the founder of Legacy Fulfilled Leadership Coaching and host of the Legacy Lounge podcast. After 11 years climbing the corporate ladder at Target, becoming one of their youngest District Senior Directors at 29 and managing $580M+ operations, she made the difficult decision to walk away from a toxic leadership situation, declining severance and an NDA to maintain her integrity. That moment of choosing values over security sparked a complete life rebuild: therapy, sobriety, yoga teacher training, and launching her own practice supporting high-level leaders who want to create magnetic teams without sacrificing their authenticity. Co-author of the bestselling anthology “Be You Brand Vol 2,” Brin'na specializes in helping leaders navigate the tension between delivering results and staying true to their values. Her work focuses on self-leadership first, then team leadership - particularly for leaders feeling the pressure to “have it all figured out” while managing organizational chaos, succession planning, and difficult conversations. Brin'na lives in Folsom, CA with her husband Drew and their two dogs, Jax and Oliver. When she’s not coaching or speaking, you’ll find her on the yoga mat, hiking, or planning their next adventure.   Website: https://www.legacyfulfilled.com/ Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/0SNCECZ62w0aBfxM07dtsa?si=a612df07dbc4420b Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brinna.rw?igsh=MTFqeXIweWFmd3hpdQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brinna.rollins Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@LegacyFulfilledBRW LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brinna-legacyfulfilled/     About Jen Oliver: Jen Oliver is a speaker, podcaster, and communications coach - equipping people to speak with greater impact and presence. He Deleted Me From Facebook. Twice.
2026/09/17
Staci Berkovitz reconnects with a man she'd all but forgotten, three dates and five years ago, and it turns into something real. Until it doesn't. Twice. There's a coach's line that still hasn't let Jen go, and a gut feeling Staci spent weeks trying to talk herself out of. We go there on both topics. This conversation also covers people-pleasing and what it actually costs to stop, plus why the body knows the truth before the mind will admit it. Staci and Jen dig into what it takes to say the hard thing first, and what's waiting on the other side of that discomfort. Key Topics & Timestamps 04:53 — The 16 Personalities retake: "I'm still the protagonist"07:18 — Jen's coach: "Boy, you think you're awfully f***ing powerful"10:57 — The text that became "a gift of truth"12:31 — What you can and can't control when it's not a match16:56 — The five-years-later reunion with the Swedish pilot21:01 — The drinking, and the first truth moment24:32 — Truth beget truth: what opened when she said the hard thing30:11 — The pilot-and-parachute metaphor for dismissive avoidant patterns31:45 — Three non-negotiables, and deciding whether to get back on the plane38:21 — What it cost her to tell the truth40:49 — What she gained: trusting the body over the mind44:48 — Intuition formed before languageTop Quotes "This is a gift of truth." — Staci"Boy, you think you're awfully f*****g powerful." — Jen, quoting her coach"Thank you, body. Dad. Hollywood. If he were alive, how would he feel about me saying this?
2026/08/04
Jeromy sat in the hot seat this episode, or as close to it as a chair across from an old friend can get. Jen asked him the question she asks every guest: name a moment you had to tell the truth. He came back with two. The first goes back to his dad. Big personality, bigger reputation, a helicopter stunt pilot for Hollywood’s biggest films and Kona Ironman finisher and he raised Jeromy along with his brother. Everyone who knew his dad saw the legend. Few saw the temper that turned physical. For many years, Jeromy grappled with which parts of his father's story were safe to tell out loud. This episode, for the first time, he told the rest of it. Some takeaways that will stay with you: loving someone and telling the truth about them are not opposites and waiting until someone is gone to say the real stuff  may be the most honest timeline available. Jeromy’s second truth goes back to Hollywood where he spent decades building the kind of career most people spend a lifetime trying to break into. He walked away from it to build Running Water Coaching instead, and it took him years to hit send on the email that made it official. Nine minutes of terror later, the response he got was the opposite of what he feared. Takeaways Truth-telling often requires us to count the cost. Loving someone and telling the truth about them are not opposites. Waiting until someone is gone to say the real thing may be the most honest timeline available. The risk you're most afraid to name out loud is often the most liberating. A hard childhood and a great life aren't opposing evidence. Top Quotes Jen: "What is a pivotal moment where you had to say what was true?" Jeromy: "I don't want to wake up in the morning, close my journal of all the things I really am, and go do some other thing." Jeromy: "Most people spend ten years banging on the door trying to get in. I was looking for the key to get out." Jeromy: "I want to be in the self-help aisle at Target, not in Beverly Hills." Jeromy: "If I fall on my face, I'd probably have more love and respect from the people I love and respect the most anyway." Jeromy: "Within nine minutes of being terrified, I was like, really? That's it?" Jeromy: "He wasn't a perfect human. He was famous with famous people, not with the general public." Jen: "Truth is the great liberator." No One Judges You Harder Than You
2026/06/04
She was discovered hitchhiking on a busy interstate. Barefoot. Tasmanian devil boxer shorts. Ripped t-shirt. Her dog — off leash — right beside her as cars raced past them. That's the story Michele Capots told her 16-year-old nephew over dinner. The nephew who had just ghosted her after finding out she'd been hospitalized for severe depression. This episode is about what happens when you finally stop protecting people from your truth — and what it costs you when you don't. Michele is a mental health advocate, speaker, writer and coach who has lived experience with bipolar disorder, multiple hospitalizations, and the thing she calls self-stigma: the moment we take society's cruelest beliefs about mental illness and turn them on ourselves. It is soul-crushing and most of us have no idea we're doing it. That story is the entry point into a much bigger conversation about what self-stigma actually is, why it's far more dangerous than the stigma we receive from others, and how it quietly (and not so quietly) steals our sense of worth, shrinks our expectations of ourselves, and keeps us in the same place long after the crisis has passed. We also get into: -What to actually say to someone who tells you they've been in a psych ward or are managing a mental illness. Spoiler: you don't have to have the perfect words. You just have to stay. -Why mental health and mental wellness are not the same thing, and why collapsing that distinction actually does harm. -The difference between the "I" in illness and the "we" in wellness — one of the most memorable lines you will hear this year. -Why self-compassion isn't soft or optional — it is the thing that dissolves self-stigma, full stop. Michele is the kind of person who makes you feel less alone just by being honest about her own life. This episode is a gift for anyone who has struggled, love someone who struggles, or ever stood there not knowing what the hell to say which is basically all of us. Find Michele on Instagram and read her Substack, The Magic of Mental Wellbeing.  Guest Bio: Michele Capots is a transformational coach, speaker, storyteller, and relentless mental wellness and resilience advocate. Her essays on mental health have appeared in Newsweek, The Washington Post, Marie Claire, among others. Drawing from her own journey through mental health crises, she has been dedicated for close to a decade to inspiring others through theirs. A sought-after speaker and thought leader, she vulnerably shares her insights and lessons around shame, self-worth, resilience, and mental wellness, which involves so much more than just good mental health. She has served as an Executive Committee Member of the Global Mental Health Peer Network, a non-profit of 38 countries worldwide focused on mental health advocacy, and is a board member for Twogere, a nonprofit focused on youth mental health recovery in Uganda. She lives in Arlington, VA. Website: https://www.michelecapost.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michelecapotsdotcom LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michele-capots-9149323/ TOP QUOTES — MICHELE CAPOTS "Self-stigma is when we take society's beliefs about mental health and turn them inward on ourselves." "Stigma doesn't just label people. It disconnects them from themselves." "There's an I in illness and a we in wellness." "We don't get better by ourselves. We need other people. We can't get well on our own." "I don't know what you're going through and I don't know how to help you — but I want you to know I'm here for you if you need me." (on the most powerful thing you can say) "Self-compassion is the hardest thing you'll ever do, but it brings the biggest relief." When they turn their back on you & you still tell the truth
2026/04/21
J. Ross Parrelli is a rapper, slam poet, educator, and founder of Beats Lyrics Leaders — a hip hop arts education organization that has worked with over 50,000 students across 150+ classrooms, from military academies to Native American reservations. In this conversation, J. Ross and Jen go deep on what it actually costs to speak your truth and what it gives back. J. Ross shares the story of being publicly defamed for standing and serving on matters she believed in. They also get into killer stories from J. Ross’s OG days; rap and slam poetry as the original truth-telling art forms, what it looks like to win a crowd that has already turned their backs on you (literally!), why J. Ross prefers consideration over empathy, and how Beats Lyrics Leaders teaches kids to find their voice before the world trains it out of them. Here’s J. Ross Parrelli’s talk from the TEDxFolsom stage in 2025. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK5d4hrPmc4&list=PLoiAX9Nj300p_XILWp-Zv5WaYkrphncUT&index=1 Guest Bio: J Ross Parrelli is a global touring, award-winning recording artist, civic leader, and frequency architect rewiring community through education, the creative economy, and advocacy. The truth is…I left a “good” marriage with no villain and no logical explanation
2026/03/10
Episode overview In this candid, tender conversation, Jen Oliver and Jen Aks discuss what it means to tell the truth and end a relationship—especially when it was seemingly “really good.” There was no villain and no tidy explanation that satisfies logic. Jen Aks shares the pivotal choice to leave her 20-year marriage, the internal cost of trusting her body when her mind demanded proof, and how truth-telling reshaped her relationships, parenting, identity, and purpose. The conversation moves from truth as concept to truth as embodied practice: the difference between heart and gut, why the body “knows” first, and is a practical pathway to clarity, calm, and confident action. What you’ll hear in this episode The moment Jen Aks realized her body was whispering… then screaming (03:17–08:01) Why it’s hard to leave when nothing is “wrong” and everything looks “perfect” from the outside (03:47–05:50) The cost count: kids, guilt, family, finances, and society’s scripts (15:28–21:04) A powerful reframe: not just what you’re “taking,” but what you’re giving through truth (21:10–22:26) A relief valve for guilt: “This is their story now” + “hold people able” (23:38–26:58) The difference between heart vs gut, and why words aren’t always required for truth (13:39–14:59; 10:04–11:41) A practical tool: using hands/gesture to invite discomfort in, release it, and return to clarity (30:09–35:39) “Yes, and…”—how doubt can coexist with knowing (43:14–43:42) After the truth: shedding, spiritual awakening, and a deeper sense of mission (37:45–40:31; 49:54–50:43) Key takeaways Truth isn’t always logical. Sometimes there’s no checklist explanation—only a bodily knowing. Your body may speak before your mind can translate. Physical signals (nausea, headaches, agitation, craving solitude) can be information. Not having the words doesn’t invalidate the truth. “The feeling is enough.” Truth has costs—and also gifts. Especially with kids: the reframe is “What am I modeling for them?”  You don’t need to villainize someone to leave. A relationship can be loving and still complete. Staying can be true, too. No shame—if you stay, the work is reclaiming yourself inside the choice. Embodied practices create clarity. Calm isn’t the goal; calm is the path to clarity and confidence. It’s never too late to tell the truth about how you handled the past. Repair and honesty can happen years later. Memorable concepts & frameworks mentioned Heart vs. gut: heart can be emotionally compelling; gut is a deeper “knowing” (13:39–14:59) Power of gesture: hands + nervous system + emotion processing (27:41–35:39) “Hold people able” from Susan Scott / Fierce Conversations (26:09–26:58) (also references Fierce Leadership) Relationship truth + dignity, referencing relationship mediator Staci Bartley (09:02–10:04) Jen Aks’ book and her TEDxFolsom talk (11:41–12:09) About Jen Aks: Jen Aks is a TEDx speaker, author, and leadership coach who helps people reconnect with their body's wisdom to unlock powerful, authentic leadership. On August 16, 2025, she delivered her TEDx talk Your Body's Hidden Intelligence: From Mindset to Bodyset, introducing a revolutionary concept that challenges decades of mindset-focused approaches. Her debut book Your Body is Speaking launched on September 30, 2025, and became a #1 bestseller in the self-help category. Jen guides leaders—from CEOs and executives to parents and educators—to lead with clarity and confidence by trusting their body's intelligence. Her areas of expertise include embodied leadership, somatic intelligence, helping people find their authentic voice and communicate it with authority. If AI was driven by your soul - what answers would it give!
2025/07/02
I once believed -  ignorantly - that “guidance” according to our star signs & astrological charts was for softheaded people needing the power of suggestion to make decisions. This conversation with Rachel Loewenherz blew my echo chamber wide open.  Rachel shares her journey from a traditional background, Ivy League education, and corporate career to embracing spirituality and astrology. Along the way she experienced tremendous losses and health challenges - which along with her expertise - also informed her creation of Star Path, an innovative AI tool designed to help individuals navigate their astrological insights and apply them to their lives.  Our conversation gets into the practical applications of astrology in navigating relationships, personal growth, and even in business contexts. Rachel emphasizes the importance of using astrology as a tool for empowerment rather than a means of placing blame, highlighting the role of free will in shaping our lives. This conversation was as liberating for me as it was illuminating.  Post recording note:  I decided to try the Star Path app AFTER our episode was recorded; it is an indispensable tool. I’ve tested it on deeply private and personal matters in addition to business strategy and it is nothing short of accurate and instructive according to who I am at my core.  Guest Bio: Rachel Loewenherz is the founder of Star Path—an AI oracle powered by astrology. She’s a Yale-educated business strategist & tech marketer, former Chief of Staff, and 2-time CEO. But that’s just on paper. Behind the scenes, she was losing pregnancies, healing from PTSD, and having a massive spiritual awakening. That’s when she found astrology. Now she’s building Star Path - an AI that helps people remember who they are, and become who they came here to be. Online dating with no pics - just your values?

I was always intrigued by the premise behind “Love Is Blind” - a reality show where singles try to find a match and fall in love -- without ever seeing each other face-to-face, as emotional connection attempts to conquer physical attraction. Full disclosure, I don’t watch TV so I haven’t seen an episode but still, the notion of moving beyond physical appearance and chemistry feels simultaneously intriguing and super risky.   Then @Drew Taylor Cohen caught my attention with a post detailing her experience when building her @Bumble profile strictly on words stating her chosen values.  NO perfect selfies. NO predictable prompts that yield, “I love to hike, travel, cook, walk my dogs and go wine tasting.”  NO eggplant emojis.  Just the personal values she attempts to live by. (Oh, and one picture of her at a distance to prevent being flagged as a bot).  @Drew Taylor Cohen is an Impact Consultant and Values Coach, so we talked about how to identify our own chosen values and distinguish them from our beliefs and identities (something I rooted myself in historically). We also discuss the challenges of seeking validation from others while navigating personal choices and the need for self-awareness and the evolving nature of values as individuals grow and change. What an awesome conversation especially as I consider something similar in my own dating journey. Anyone relate? Join the conversation… Guest Bio: Trained in holistic, neurodiverse and values-aligned coaching techniques, Drew helps singles and couples break old patterns and align their values to find lasting love. Dedicated to finding love that felt soul-aligned and safe, she set out on a personal development journey that led her to discover her values and trust her needs and desires. What did she do next? She created a dating profile with no photos, just screenshots of her values and how she envisioned them being shared in an aligned partnership. And it worked! Her fiancé and her just celebrated four years of swiping right on the things that matter most. Through 1:1 coaching, she now helps her clients rewrite their own values-aligned love story and clarify what truly matters in love. Her aligned love method is about prioritizing your non-negotiables and curating love that mirrors the truth of who you already are. She also developed and leads the Live Authentically program. This workshop and accompanying workbook uses a proven framework that guides participants to explore who you are, discover your chosen values and pursue an aligned life. When she’s not helping people align their relationships and life to their values, she’s supporting purpose-driven organizations as a freelance impact consultant. “Act like a man!” and Break the Glass Ceiling with Dr. Kasi Lacey
2025/04/28
My conversation with Dr. Kasi Lacey speaks to a common experience among many; a woman and leader confronting the glass ceiling in an organization. Kasi was passed over more than once for positions she was eminently qualified for “because they were instructed to hire a man…” Her encounter with gender bias became an inflection point; she did a new thing and made the decision to walk in and “act like a man” and demand the job she had more than earned. Kasi deliberately mimicked the hubris and assertion of a man who once came to her office demanding a promotion of his own. It worked. As a bi-racial woman who presents “white” - Dr. Lacey shares her experiences with racism as well as toxic leadership and hustle culture. We also discuss the complexities of a “fake it til you make it” mentality and the significance of listening to one's inner voice as a means of empowerment and self-trust. Join the conversation! Guest Bio: I’m Kasi—a, psychologist, confidence coach, bi-racial woman, mother, and former C-suite leader who left the structured world of higher education to pursue a bigger mission: helping women step into unshakable confidence and unapologetic leadership. For years, I played by the rules—earning my Ph.D. at 26, climbing the leadership ranks, and breaking barriers in male-dominated spaces. I fought to get my seat at the table, only to realize my ladder was leaning against the wrong building. I had checked all the boxes of success, yet I still felt like I was playing small. That no longer works for me. I built my own business, H & L Legacy Consulting, to help high-achieving women overcome imposter syndrome, advocate for themselves, and lead with confidence. Whether it's navigating workplace challenges, negotiating salaries, or owning their worth, I believe that when women stop doubting themselves, they change industries, organizations, and lives—including their own. Disordered eating and silencing yourself share a solution; listen to your body!
2025/04/22
In this conversation, Amber Abila and I discuss the challenges many of us face when it comes to listening to our bodies, setting boundaries, and giving voice to what’s true for us. Amber is a binge and overeating coach, while I coach people to speak with impact and clarity from their truest voice. We both see huge overlap in our coaching practices and agree that listening to our body is crucial for understanding our needs and then getting them met - whether that is with moderate amounts of nourishing food or expressing our authentic Selves verbally. It has taken me a long time to learn what it means to create safety in my body, to sit with my emotions and not eat or drink them away. Amber and I dig into matters of self-worth, the struggle against people-pleasing, and the reality of shame and its ability to trigger overeating, binge eating, staying silent or speaking non-truths. It’s all related…join the conversation. Guest Bio: Amber Abila helps women stop binge eating & overeating by rewiring their brains so they can feel normal and in control around ANY food. Through coaching and psychology, she learned that there was nothing wrong with her and she just needed some simple brain tools to start making dramatic shifts in her eating habits and life. She now walks others step by step through her process in her signature Confident Eater Program as well as in her podcast, in the top 3% worldwide, called “Become a Confident Eater.” Website: https://www.theconfidenteater.org Podcast: https://www.theconfidenteater.org/podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theconfidenteater_/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/532434625387487 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@amberabila About Jen Oliver: Jen Oliver is a speaker, podcaster, and communications coach - equipping people to speak with greater impact and presence. Coming home to yourself and the dismantling that requires
2025/04/14
I don’t often use the word “enlightening” but this conversation with Lara Waldman was just that. We explored our stories of spiritual awakening, the ways that we understand this elusive term called “manifestation,” and our unique journeys of self-discovery. This was a topic of conversation that I once would have labeled heretical and taboo because it didn’t align with my limited viewpoint or echo chamber. What a loss that would have been. Lara shares her personal experiences to illustrate the interconnectedness of money, intimacy, and ancestral trauma. At one point, she says, “...for me, manifesting is mostly about releasing and letting go of everything that is NOT YOU, which is a lot of history, a lot of stories, a lot of programs, a lot of patterns…we're here to know ourselves often through the experience of lack, but that's not the truth of who we are…manifesting is connecting with who you are and what your soul wants to experience through physical reality. And that's not just the good stuff, right? We're here to have a full, rich experience of being alive as a human being on this planet. This is high level stuff.”  Yes, yes it is “high level stuff” and totally worth the conversation. Join us.   Guest Bio: Lara Waldman, a.k.a The Wealth Accelerator, is a manifestation expert, healer, podcast host and author of 'Money Manifestation Mastery'. Lara helps driven business owners and entrepreneurs transform blocks to owning their value to manifest high cash months and create wealth in every area of their life. She draws on over two decades of experience as a healer and spiritual coach to help transformational educators, business owners, leaders and professionals achieve financial success guided by the soul of their business and their wealthy inner wisdom. Lara’s passion is helping the world’s leaders create authentic success by activating their creative power within. She’ll teach you the mindset, practices, and strategy you need to build the wealth and freedom you desire without the grind. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Lara lives in London, England, with her husband of 24 years and two daughters. The “echo chamber” of the American military expands my own
2025/04/07
When echo chambers collide you get the best conversation! I sat down with Justin Cauthen, a man with 20 years of military service and five combat tours to his credit - not to mention leadership roles in situations and countries where hostility is often the norm. His story is powerful. And so is his heart. We talked about things that matter deeply—PTSD, suicide, the ripple effect trauma has across professions, the toll military life takes on spouses and kids. Justin shared with such humility and vulnerability. One of the things he said that struck me most was this: trauma radiates. And it does—it moves through people, relationships, even whole communities. And this is experienced by many - not just those associated with the military. BUT, there is a flip side! Healing also has a ripple effect. This conversation is also about “assuming noble intent”  - as Justin puts it -  lowering our defenses, asking the hard questions, and holding space for someone else's truth. And let me tell you, Justin showed up for this in a big way. We discussed the impact of military service on personal integrity and the importance of grace and understanding in supporting veterans during their transition to civilian life.  I walked away changed. And I believe you will, too. Join the conversation… Guest Bio: With over two decades of service in the United States Army and healthcare, I am beginning the transition to the civilian workforce. This is NOT an easy transition for anyone who starts into a culture such as the military at the age of 17 or 18. My military career began as a healthcare specialist overseeing the night shift EMT team, expanded into higher-level leadership, leadership instruction, senior advisory roles, and aeromedical evacuation management, and will end with my current senior position as the Executive Clinical Director of Evans Army Community Hospital. With an extensive background in military healthcare and a focus on healthcare innovation and project management, my tenure at Evans Army Community Hospital has been marked by the advancement of medical facilities and services for a vast beneficiary community. At the helm of a 2,700-member team, we've fostered innovation and optimized resources in a dynamic healthcare environment. I have had the honor of leading troops in the far east and southwest of Asia as well as other regions. I am a Flight Medic by trade, but have had the privilege as serving in a myriad of rolls. Most notably was an Advisor to the Ministries of Health for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as well as Logistics Command to the Afghan Army. It was here, in Kabul from 2020-2021 that I learned the importance of assuming intent and the importance of recognizing the nobility in each of us, that we are ALL doing the best we can; with what we have, from the experiences we have had and the resources life have given us. We limit ourselves by the stories we believe
2025/03/31
Y’all, this episode with Bara Mann was one that I want you to be a part of. We talked about belonging, identity, and the stories we tell ourselves—especially the ones that no longer serve us. Bara shared her childhood moments of trying to fit in - and I talked of what that looks like as an adult. I’ve been that chameleon too—fitting in everywhere, but not necessarily showing all of me. This conversation was about breaking down the invisible walls we put up, and finding courage to speak from our truest place. We also explored the energy of our words—how our stories hold weight, shape our lives, and ripple into the world. Every time we speak from our truth, we add momentum to the life we want to live. This episode is a loving invitation to question old stories and come home to yourself. Grab a seat on the couch. Let’s keep going deeper. Together. Guest Bio: Bara Mann (she/they) is a speaker and transformational life coach who helps driven individuals create more joy and impact. Drawing from both her corporate engineering career and Positive Intelligence® coaching expertise, she guides clients beyond overthinking into confident action. “Horribly Lovely” - A conversation with Jon Kohrs
2025/02/23
Reading “Horribly Lovely” was exactly that…and, I could not stop turning the pages. My conversation with the author, Jon Kohrs, went deep as we talked about his “Horribly Lovely” journey. I will avoid spoilers, but this newly released book may cause you to reconsider many things. I confess to sitting in judgment of people and behaviors that Jon’s writing exposes; from addiction to marital infidelity, he opens the door wide open to us with each chapter. This conversation opened me up to a greater space of love, compassion, and understanding.  Jon shares his personal experiences with shame and an insatiable quest for connection, providing insights into the challenges of being truly present for people we love and the impact of past traumas on current relationships.  We also discuss the roots of addiction, the stigma surrounding suicidal ideation, and the importance of authenticity in sharing personal stories. The dialogue emphasizes the gray areas of right and wrong, the beauty in messiness, and the transformative journey of being human. Join our conversation… Here is the link again to the website.  The alchemy quiz is at the top.  http://horriblylovely.com/ Guest Bio: With an unconventional approach to writing, Jon is trying to break the norms of how we express ourselves authentically and idiosyncratically with the full originality of who we are as individuals. His writing is dreamlike, symbolic, and even poetic, uplifting the human spirit through the clarity and blunt punctuation of our experience living here together.   His writing is an attempt to weave wisdom from his own unconventional journeys, with the Enneagram, shamanism, and Jungian alchemy, to explore the depth of human transformation. Jon is inspired to investigate how love works in this big bang universe of ours to empower others to bring their own real, honest, and uncomfortable love stories to the world. Jon balances writing with consulting opportunities to transform companies, teams, and leaders that desire to work in whole new ways. He serves as a designer, coach, and teacher, helping employees grow through the process of transforming ideas into intrapreneurial ventures. In both the literary and corporate worlds, he’s served as a creative bridge between the personal and transpersonal realms. He is inspired by the shocks that help us unlearn who we think we and the resilience that helps us relearn who we truly are. Tackling One Fear Per Year
2025/02/17
Janice and I unpack our personal fears and the unique way she continues to overcome hers. I am someone who has historically craved certainty and safety - and as usual – my perspective shifts and so does our conversation! Our discussion pivoted into dating, love and our own relationships and divorces. We got into communication and breakups and the way fear can be both debilitating and liberating. I met Janice when she became one of my  2024 TEDx speakers  - her talk was different because it was about identifying emotional wounds, facing fears and overcoming them by doing some pretty unique things, one fear, per year.  She also has a podcast of the same name. This episode is one more REAL conversation that helps normalize fear and our admissions around it. Join the conversation… Guest Bio: Janice Burt is an inspirational speaker, court certified Spanish interpreter, voiceover artist, yoga instructor, podcast host, actor, and author.
