This week’s review is for the program: The Incredible Journey - The Moabite Stone and the Story of Ruth, presented by Gary Kent. Description Scholars have long debated the existence of the Moabites until the discovery of the Moabite stone in 1868. Frederick Klein, a travelling medical missionary, first made the discovery. It was then further investigated by a French archaeologist, Charles Clermont-Ganneau. The stele was inscribed with a message from King Mahesa of Moab, who is also mentioned in the biblical book of Kings. One of the most touching stories about a Moabite is found in the Book of Ruth. In the bold speech that kicked off the Reformation, Martin Luther famously would not retract his writings. But what were the books he was willing to defend with his life? This film looks at those key documents—including his writings on Christian freedom and the priesthood of all believers. These publications were anchored in scripture, not papal decree, and laid the groundwork for the entire Protestant Reformation.
