With it being the new year most of us are setting goals so we can become the best versions of ourselves. The versions that will make a truly happy. But if you’re anything like me those goals last you a week or two and then they’re forgotten. I’ve already missed almost the first week of January because I lost track of time. Setting goals has always been hard for me because I know when life gets crazy those goals go out the window and I just fly by the seat of my pants. Instead, I love setting a Word of the Year and focusing on the things that are the most important to me. I call them my Life Pillars. The cool thing about do it it this way that you give yourself the grace to pivot. Because you’re focusing on categories and an overall theme the actual goal can change to get you where you want to go when you see what you’re doing isn’t working. "Housekeeping does not bring me joy, but it is a necessary part of life and if we don’t stay somewhat on top of it, it will get away from us and instead of creating space for the things that matter we will be creating space to clean. I was asked about my cleaning schedule so here it is. My biggest advice would be: make a plan, try to stay consistent, and show yourself and your family grace if everything doesn't get done. My mom has always told me to listen to every piece of advice the people want to share and then do what works best for you.Keep that in mind as I give you this next piece of advice...Meet your kids where they are, not where you think they should be. As a matter of fact, this is true for any relationship. I have never not loved my kids, but by meeting them where they are I have fallen in love with them all over again. I can truly see their personalities and quirks. Their strengths and weaknesses. I can see them for who they are so it makes it easier to see what brings them joy and what breaks their heart.
