Watching the Burning Bush Burn | Austin Fischer
2026/10/04
An old fugitive out in the wasteland comes upon a burning bush, takes the time to watch it burn, and the rest is history. Moses' humility and patience result in him receiving a summons to service and adventure from a holy and friendly God.
Serving the Lord and Building His Kingdom | Dave Jeffreys
2026/09/27
After Moses had grown up, he notices the abuse and injustice of the Egyptians toward the Hebrew people of God. Moses ends up killing an Egyptian and then fleeing to Midian to escape Pharaoh. While there, he ends up getting married and leading a quiet life complete with a job and a family... but this is all setting the stage for how God is going to use Moses to lead his people. Like all of us, Moses really wasn't qualified to lead. But, God prepares and uses Moses anyways, and there is a lot we can learn about serving the Lord and building his kingdom through Moses' story.
Hidden Figures | Austin Fischer
2026/09/20
An unlikely conspiracy of kindness delivers the baby who will one day deliver the people of Israel. Because when faced with overwhelming situations, all we can do, and all we are asked to do, is the next thing.
Sovereignty, Responsibility, and Freedom | Dave Jeffreys
2026/09/13
At the end of Genesis we see that Jacob's family has moved to Egypt. Over the course of about 400 years, they have grown in number. As Exodus begins they find themselves slaves in a foreign land with ungodly rulers. This sets the stage for what God is going to do to free his people and make them into a great nation. Through this first chapter we learn about God's sovereignty, our responsibility, and what God ultimately wants for his people.
The Trauma of Everything | Austin Fischer
2026/09/06
Why would we be the most traumatized people despite living in the least traumatic age? Through the common grace of resiliency, and the ambient effects of the resurrection, we can learn to live lives that are full of trauma but also full of joy, adventure, and hope.
Contentment... A Learned Posture | Dave Jeffreys
2026/08/30
Selfish Ambition is not necessarily a modern problem. It is a problem that has been around since the beginning of mankind. It is an ancient problem with an equally ancient solution. Selfish Ambition is rooted in pride and fueled by discontent. The answer to this is for God's people to learn contentment in life. According to the Apostle Paul, contentment isn't a virtue found within oneself. It is a posture of dependence and trust in God that must be learned. The secret to contentment is knowing Christ and allowing him to be your source of satisfaction.
Misanthropy & Charity | Austin Fischer
2026/08/23
We trust each other less and less. We like each other less and less. Why? Are humans really getting worse? Or have we lost touch with the ancient Christian virtue known as charity?
Information Overload | Dave Jeffreys
2026/08/16
We live in a time where more information is available to the average person than at any time in human history. Yet, with all this information, we are not more happy and we are certainly not more wise. Information overload is a real problem. Loads of information available to us at any time sounds good in theory, but in practice it's actually overwhelming, confusing, and exhausting. Much like eating too much is bad for our physical health, information gluttony is making our soul's sick. So what is the solution? In short... Godly Wisdom. But what is Godly wisdom and how do we get it in our lives?
The Extinction of Experience | Austin Fischer
2026/08/10
We were made for creation, and creation was made for us. But our lives are increasingly mediated through screens, and this mediation leads to a deep sense of alienation. If we want to be more at home, then we need more direct experiences with the things God made.
Be Careful How You Live | Dave Jeffreys
2026/08/02
As the author of Hebrews concludes this letter, he lists off a number of things that have to do with godly living. The big idea is this... in light of Jesus being a greater high priest, a greater covenant, a greater sacrifice, etc... how we live our lives as believers matters. So, he concludes his letter by giving the readers some practical advice for living life in light of these truths.
Discipline For Good | Austin Fischer
2026/07/26
The Gift of Faith | Dave Jeffreys
2026/07/19
Chapter 11 of Hebrews is often called the "Hall of Faith." The author defines what faith is and then walks through some of the Old Testament saints and shows how they lived or walked by faith. Through this chapter we learn a great deal about what true biblical faith is and how it works in our lives.
The Better Sacrifice, Once For All | Sarah Hammond
2026/07/12
God never took delight in sacrifices and offerings. They were merely a means to His plan from the very beginning, which was Jesus. It was always Jesus. When Christ offered himself on the cross as the better and perfect sacrifice, once for all...this changed everything for everyone.
Out with the Old in with the New | Dave Jeffreys
2026/07/05
The writer of Hebrews is trying to show that the old system (the Levitical priesthood, the law, the structure of the tabernacle, the old covenant, etc...) is problematic for all kinds of reasons. He wants his readers to understand that there is a new way found in Christ that is better, more superior, and more complete.
More Cowbell | Austin Fischer
2026/06/28
Hebrews 6 is one of the most contested and controversial portions in the New Testament, and presents an opportunity to reflect upon what the Bible is and how to read it well. Is repentance impossible for people who have fallen away? How does this square with other portions of Scripture which indicate the opposite?
