In this episode of Re-defined with Abimbola, Phillipa- a registered nurse, and I discussed the importance of collecting race-based data, how implicit bias may impact patient care and the need for cultural awareness.

In this episode, Dr. Ibiok outlined multiple factors predisposing a person to develop cancer. Some of these risk factors include; family history, smoking, certain disease conditions like Crohn's disease (a disease that causes chronic inflammation of the gut), Alcohol use, and Exposure to certain environmental compounds like asbestos. Early detection through frequent and appropriate screening, treatment, and lifestyle measures will help to improve outcomes.

In this episode, Dr. Abimbola discussed the sections of her new guide which outlined different phases of moving your knowledge of a gap, from stakeholder engagement to implementation. The guide contains the following headings: Have a clear mind - why unlearning is vital to reduce your bias and facilitate stakeholder engagement Empathy map - the relevance of empathy mapping and identifying who the human at the center is Engage with key stakeholders - who are key stakeholders? stakeholder engagement is relevant and how to go about it Co-design your solution - the co-creation methods and how to select the most viable idea for the identified problem Implement your solution - how to conduct low fidelity testing, addressing barriers to implementing your ideas, and the need to iterate to ensure a successful implementation.

In this episode, Dr. Abimbola had a chat with Dr. Ibra on the benefits of Telehealth, the barriers implementing this, patient's and healthcare provider's perceptions of Telemedicine, and his fantastic project–Doctring (a telehealth platform being developed to connect patients in Pakistan to the care they need).

In this episode, Dr. Abimbola touched on how implicit bias within the healthcare system can impact patient outcomes. She spoke on health disparities and factors contributing to health inequities. She highlighted the need for patients and healthcare providers to advocate for more personalized and integrated care.

Our faith, culture, beliefs, and experiences are part of who we are. For a long time, faith and beliefs have influenced how we perceive treatments or adhere to our healthcare providers' recommendations. In this episode of intersection between medicine and faith, Dr. Abimbola tells us that faith, or beliefs, should not prevent us from using our drugs or adhering to our medical treatment, and vice versa. We can use our medications while also having the faith that it will work for us.
