#265 - I Don't Believe in Hunting Secrets Anymore
2026/10/16
What if everything you've been told about deer hunting secrets is WRONG? Every year, the hunting industry introduces another revolutionary tactic, secret strategy, or must-have piece of equipment that's supposed to help you kill more mature bucks. But are there really any secrets left in deer hunting? In this episode of Before the Echo, I'm challenging the idea that successful deer hunters have some hidden knowledge the rest of us don't. With YouTube, podcasts, trail cameras, mapping apps, and endless hunting content available today, we have more information at our fingertips than ever before. Yet we're still constantly searching for that one secret that's going to change everything. Maybe the secret is that there isn't one. We're diving into: Why I no longer believe in deer hunting secrets How the hunting industry markets the next big thing Why expensive hunting gear doesn't guarantee success The difference between hunting knowledge and actual experience Why successful deer hunters consistently get the fundamentals right How social media and YouTube have changed the way we hunt Why copying successful hunters doesn't always work How we've overcomplicated something that should be simple What actually makes someone a better deer hunter Whether you're chasing mature whitetails on public land, hunting private property, or trying to improve your bowhunting skills, this conversation might change how you approach your next hunt. I'm not saying there's nothing left to learn about deer hunting. I'm saying that maybe we need to stop searching for shortcuts and start getting better at the things we already know. NOW I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Do you believe there are still real secrets in deer hunting? Or has everything already been figured out? Drop your thoughts in the comments! I want to hear what you think. #264 - Why Good Deer Hunters Have Bad Seasons
2026/10/13
Does having a bad deer season mean you're a bad hunter? Absolutely not. Some of the best deer hunters I know have gone entire seasons without killing a buck, while others seem to walk into the woods and kill a giant without much effort. So what really separates a good deer hunter from a successful one? In this episode of Before the Echo, we're talking about why even the most experienced deer hunters have bad seasons. From the role luck plays in deer hunting to overthinking your setups, unrealistic expectations, hunting pressure, and the impact of social media, we're diving into why success isn't always measured by antlers on the wall. We'll also discuss public land deer hunting, learning from failure, and why some of your toughest seasons might actually make you a better hunter. In this episode: Why good deer hunters sometimes struggle to find success How much luck really plays into killing mature bucks Why overthinking can hurt your deer hunting The pressure social media puts on hunters Why comparing your season to someone else's is a mistake How failure can make you a better hunter What actually defines a successful deer season At the end of the day, deer hunting is about more than filling a tag. Sometimes the seasons that challenge us the most are the ones that teach us the most. I want to hear from you! What's the toughest deer season you've ever had? Did it make you a better hunter? #263 - I Was NOT Expecting This on My First Deer Hunts of the Year
2026/10/09
Deer season is officially underway. In this first episode of THE SEASON, I’m breaking down my first couple deer hunts of the year — what I saw, what went right, what I learned, and an exciting encounter that put me right in the game early. This series is going to be a little different. Every week throughout deer season, I’m going to sit down and give you an honest look at what’s happening in the woods. The good hunts, the bad hunts, the close calls, the mistakes, the adjustments, and hopefully a few punched tags along the way. No pretending every hunt is perfect. No acting like I have everything figured out. Just deer hunting as it actually happens. If you're hunting right now too, drop a comment and let me know how your season is going and what you're seeing in your area. Subscribe to Before the Echo and follow along with THE SEASON each week. 🏹 BEFORE THE ECHO PARTNERS Latitude Outdoorshttps://www.latitudeoutdoors.com/Use code BTE ASIO Gearhttps://asiogear.com/Use code ECHO15 Hawke Opticshttps://www.hawkeoptics.com/Use code BTE Thanks to everyone who watches, listens, comments, and supports Before the Echo. #262 - "I'm tired of Loosing my Hunting Buddies"
2026/10/06
A comment on one of my recent podcasts stopped me in my tracks. I asked hunters what they were tired of seeing in the hunting industry. I expected answers about social media, hunting pressure, expensive gear, influencers, leasing ground, and all the other things we tend to complain about. Then an older hunter simply said: “I’m tired of losing my hunting buddies.” That one hit differently. We spend so much time worrying about killing bigger bucks, finding better spots, buying better gear, and becoming better hunters that sometimes we forget what actually makes hunting special. The people. Someday, you may look back and realize the hunts you miss the most aren't the ones where you killed the biggest deer. They're the mornings with your dad, your grandpa, your kids, or that old hunting buddy who isn't sitting beside you anymore. In this episode of Before the Echo, I want to talk about perspective, getting older, hunting with our kids, appreciating the people around us, and remembering that none of us know how many hunting seasons we have left together. Don't get so caught up trying to make memories that you forget you're already living them. If this episode makes you think of an old hunting buddy, give them a call. #261 - I’m Done Hunting Deer Like Everyone Else
2026/10/02
I’m done hunting deer like everyone else. It’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing — the newest tactics, the perfect setups, the latest gear, and the idea that there’s only one “right” way to hunt mature bucks. But this season, I’m changing my approach. In this episode of Before the Echo, I talk about why I’m simplifying the way I hunt, trusting what I’ve learned through experience, and making decisions based on what’s actually happening in the woods instead of what everyone else says I should be doing. We’ll talk about hunting pressure, mobile hunting, overthinking setups, trusting your instincts, and why sometimes becoming a better deer hunter means doing LESS — not more. If you’ve ever felt like deer hunting has become way more complicated than it needs to be, this episode is for you. Drop a comment below: What’s one thing you’ve changed about the way you hunt over the years? 🏹 BEFORE THE ECHO PARTNERS Latitude Outdoors https://www.latitudeoutdoors.com/ Use code BTE ASIO Gear https://asiogear.com/ Use code ECHO15 Hawke Optics https://www.hawkeoptics.com/ Use code BTE 👍 If you enjoy the podcast, hit LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to Before the Echo. #DeerHunting #WhitetailHunting #PublicLandHunting #Bowhunting #DeerHuntingPodcast #Whitetail #HuntingPodcast #BeforeTheEcho
#260 - What Are You Actually Trying to Accomplish This Deer Season?
2026/09/30
What does a successful deer season actually look like? For most deer hunters, the obvious answer is killing a big buck. But if that's the only way we measure success, we can do almost everything right for an entire season and still walk away feeling like we failed. In this episode of Before the Echo, I’m sitting down to talk about my goals for this deer season—and why I think setting the RIGHT goals can completely change the way we hunt. We’re talking about: • My personal goals for this deer season • Outcome goals vs. goals you can actually control • Becoming a better deer hunter instead of simply hunting more • Why we shouldn't let social media change our standards • Hunting new areas and getting outside our comfort zones • Balancing deer hunting with family and the things that matter most • Why killing a buck doesn't have to determine whether your season was successful Obviously, I want to kill a mature buck. We all want to punch a tag. But I don't want one dead deer to determine whether hundreds of hours spent scouting, hunting, learning, and making memories were worth it. So here's my question for you: **What is YOUR #1 goal for this deer season—and it can't just be “kill a big buck”?** Drop it in the comments. I want to hear it. 🔥 BEFORE THE ECHO PARTNERS 🔥 🏹 LATITUDE OUTDOORS https://www.latitudeoutdoors.com/ Use code **BTE** 🦌 ASIO GEAR https://asiogear.com/ Use code **ECHO15** 🔭 HAWKE OPTICS https://www.hawkeoptics.com/ Use code **BTE** If you enjoy honest conversations about public-land deer hunting, bowhunting, scouting, and becoming a better deer hunter, subscribe to Before the Echo
Episode #26 - Jesus Was Never Out of Control | John 18
2026/09/24
John 18 takes us into one of the darkest nights in the Gospel of John—but through every moment, we see that Jesus is still completely in control. In this episode of Rooted & Raised, we walk through John 18 together, beginning with Jesus’ arrest in the garden and the incredible moment when the soldiers step back and fall to the ground after He says, “I am He.”We also look at Peter’s attempt to defend Jesus with a sword, Peter’s three denials, Jesus’ questioning before the high priest, and His powerful conversation with Pilate about His Kingdom and the truth. There’s a huge contrast throughout this chapter: Peter is afraid, religious leaders are plotting, Pilate is conflicted, and the crowd chooses Barabbas—but Jesus remains steady through it all.John 18 reminds us that Jesus wasn’t simply a victim of the events happening around Him. He knew what was coming, willingly stepped forward, and continued toward the cross. In this episode, we discuss:• Why did the soldiers fall to the ground when Jesus said, “I am He”?• Why did Jesus stop Peter from fighting?
#259 - What I’d Do If I Had ZERO Hunting Spots This Season
2026/09/24
What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and EVERY hunting spot you had was gone? No permission. No familiar public-land spots. No backup property. You’re starting completely from ZERO. In this episode of Before the Echo, I’m breaking down exactly what I would do to find new places to hunt and still have a successful deer season. We’ll talk about finding overlooked public land, knocking on doors for permission, using your network, scouting new ground quickly, and why learning how to FIND good hunting spots may be more valuable than having one great property. 🎁 PLUS — THE FIRST GIVEAWAY STARTS TODAY! #258 - 10 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Deer Hunting
2026/09/19
After years of deer hunting, I’ve realized that some of the advice I once treated like gospel probably made hunting harder than it needed to be.In this episode of Before the Echo, I’m breaking down 10 things I wish I knew earlier about deer hunting—from hunting pressure and wind direction to gear, stand locations, mature bucks, and waiting for the “perfect” conditions. Some of these are lessons I learned the hard way.The biggest takeaway? There are very few absolute rules in deer hunting. What works on one property, for one hunter, or for one buck might be completely wrong somewhere else.Whether you’re brand new to deer hunting or you’ve been chasing whitetails for decades, hopefully there’s something here that makes you think differently about how you approach the woods this fall.Drop a comment: What’s one piece of deer hunting advice you wish you would’ve ignored?🤝 BEFORE THE ECHO PARTNERSLatitude Outdoors — Mobile hunting gear, saddles, climbing sticks, platforms & packsUse code BTEShop Latitude OutdoorsASIO Gear — Purpose-built whitetail hunting apparelUse code ECHO15Shop ASIO GearHawke Optics — Binoculars, rangefinders, scopes & hunting opticsUse code BTEShop Hawke OpticsThank you to these companies for supporting Before the Echo and helping make this content possible. If you enjoy the episode, subscribe to Before the Echo, hit the like button, and share it with another deer hunter.Same woods. #256 - This Deer Sign Matters More Than Rubs & Scrapes
2026/09/12
Most deer hunters know how to spot a big rub, a giant scrape, or a heavily used trail—but some of the most important deer sign is the stuff hunters walk right past. In this episode of Before the Echo, I break down the subtle clues I pay attention to when scouting and hunting whitetails. We’re talking about lone buck tracks, faint secondary trails, small rubs in the right places, overlooked bedding, vegetation changes, browse, staging areas, and even what the absence of sign can tell you. The goal isn't to find the MOST deer sign. It's to find the sign that actually tells you where a buck is coming from, where he's going, and how you can kill him. If you're scouting public land or trying to get tighter to mature bucks this season, this is one you'll want to hear. #255 - Nobody Wants to Admit This About Deer Hunting
2026/09/09
Nobody Wants to Admit This About Deer Hunting… Deer hunting has a way of exposing the truth. We can spend all year talking about strategies, gear, mature bucks, public land, and what we're going to do differently—but once the season gets here, things don't always go according to plan. In this episode of Before the Echo, I’m talking about some of the uncomfortable truths that deer hunters don't always want to admit. The mistakes we make, the excuses we tell ourselves, and the things that actually matter when it comes to becoming a better and more successful hunter. Whether you hunt public land, private land, from a saddle, treestand, compound, recurve, or rifle, I think there’s something in this conversation that every deer hunter can relate to. #254 - The #1 Deer Hunting Advantage Nobody Talks About
2026/09/05
What if one of the biggest advantages in deer hunting has nothing to do with scouting, wind, thermals, or the latest piece of gear? In this episode of Before the Echo, I’m talking about something that rarely gets discussed: COMFORT. We’ve almost glorified being miserable as deer hunters. Freezing feet, aching backs, uncomfortable stands, soaked clothing — somehow we’ve convinced ourselves that suffering makes us better hunters. But does it? I believe being comfortable can actually make you a more effective deer hunter. When you’re comfortable, you stay longer. You move less. You remain mentally focused. And when that buck finally shows up, you’re ready to make the shot. In this episode, I cover: • Why comfort can mean more time in the woods • How being uncomfortable creates unnecessary movement • Why physical comfort affects your mental focus • Choosing a stand, saddle, or setup that works for YOU • Why clothing can matter more than expensive hunting gear • The little things that make all-day sits easier • Being comfortable and confident with your weapon • Why you should stop choosing gear to impress other hunters Being miserable isn’t a hunting tactic. Sometimes the best hunting strategy isn’t figuring out how to get closer to the deer — it’s figuring out how to stay in the woods long enough for the deer to come to you. 🏹 BEFORE THE ECHO PARTNERS LATITUDE OUTDOORS https://www.latitudeoutdoors.com/ Use Code: BTE ASIO GEAR https://asiogear.com/ Use Code: ECHO15 HAWKE OPTICS https://www.hawkeoptics.com/ Use Code: BTE If you enjoy honest conversations about deer hunting, public land, traditional archery, gear, and everything that happens Before the Echo, SUBSCRIBE and join us for the next episode. #253 - 7 Lies Deer Hunters Need to Stop Believing
2026/09/04
STOP LYING TO YOURSELF.Sometimes the biggest thing holding us back isn’t our circumstances, other people, or a lack of opportunity — it’s the stories we keep telling ourselves. In this episode of the Before the Echo Podcast, I’m talking about being honest with yourself, taking responsibility, and recognizing the excuses that keep you from becoming the person you know you can be.Whether it’s hunting, work, family, faith, fitness, or life in general, eventually you have to stop making excuses and start making changes. If something in this episode hits home, drop a comment below. Episode #25 - Jesus Prayed for You Before the Cross | John 17
2026/09/04
What was on Jesus’ heart just hours before He was arrested and crucified? In John 17, we get an incredible look into one of the most personal prayers Jesus ever prayed. He prays for Himself, for His disciples, and then He looks ahead and prays for those who would one day believe through their message — including us.In this episode of the Rooted & Raised Podcast, we walk through John 17 and talk about what Jesus’ prayer teaches us about eternal life, living in the world without becoming like the world, being sanctified by truth, Christian unity, and what Jesus ultimately desires for His followers. One of the biggest things that stood out to us is this: Jesus didn't pray that His followers would be removed from the world. He prayed that God would keep them faithful while they were in it.And then in John 17:20, the prayer becomes incredibly personal:Jesus begins praying for future believers. That means this isn't only a prayer for Peter, John, and the disciples sitting with Him that night. It's a prayer that reaches all the way to believers today.Grab your Bible, open to John 17, and study it with us.If this episode encourages you, consider subscribing and sharing it with someone who could use it.Scripture: John 17Rooted & Raised Podcast#John17 #Jesus #BibleStudy #ChristianPodcast #Christianity #Bible #Faith #Prayer
