Kelly Given is a Scottish writer, political commentator and autistic campaigner. ADHD Tax, 'Myths' and LEGENDS with Sara Jane Maxwell
2026/08/30
ADHD Tax refers to the financial, mental, and physical costs incurred as a result of living with ADHD. Driven by Executive Function Gaps; ADHD traits like poor working memory, impulsivity, difficulty prioritising, and valuing immediate rewards over delayed ones; create a gap between how your brain works and how societal financial systems expect it to work.
Helping me tackle this taxing topic is the wonderful Wealth Coach Sara Jane Maxwell (who I'm lucky enough to be in Lu in Lu Land's Self Love Unleashed Crew with!) Sara help clients claim their financial power and move forward with confidence.
I'm so grateful to Sara for sharing her pearls of wisdom in this chinwag and for joining me at our first Live Event as a Charity: ADHD Easy Target on Sunday 6th September at The National Trust's Nostell in Wakefield.
We hope you find this chat helpful and that you can join the conversation at one of the 13 ADHDAF+ Charity free in-person ADHD Peer Support groups in September on ADHD Tax.
(You can watch the video for this episode on Spotify)
ENORMOUS THANKS to Sara Jane, to you for listening and to all attending the event which is free thanks to The National Trust and The National Lottery Community Fund.
Rant Warning: This episode's last ten minutes is me ranting about a certain mockumentary!
Trigger Warning: contains swearing, gallows humour(!), LOUD laughter and mentions of grief, death, debt, unemployment, ableism, exploitation and the tragic loss of Jason Arday
If you are struggling, lo siento. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Please reach out for help HERE
We hope you can come along to your local ADHDAF+ Charity free ADHD Peer Support Group in September

2026/05/11
From the Media, to the Workplace - even in our homes and social spaces; Healthcare, Finances, Dating, Addiction, and more... the target isn't something we're creating; it’s something society places on us through ableism and exploitation.

Neurodivergent Dead Mums Club with Forever Yours Betty/ Sheri Scott
2026/03/15
Forever Yours Betty returns to ADHDAF in far less happier circumstances but at least we are in this club together. Today is Mothers Day in the UK, which can be incredibly challenging for many reasons. Sheri/Betty and I lost our Mum's two months apart last year and decided to share our experiences to help others (who we wish weren't) in this terrible club know that they're not alone.
Our intention for sharing this crucial conversation is also to help raise awareness about how ADHD and AuDHD can impact grief and vice versa, how Mother loss can impact our identity, the light that has helped us through the darkest of times, and to demonstrate the power of Peer Support. We are all in this together!
This episode is dedicated to Sheri's Mum Mags, my Mum Jennifer, to all Mothers, to all who find today challenging, and to all of us in the Neurodivergent Dead Mums Club.
MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING: Contains swearing, loud laughter, gallows humour, some high pitched sounds, and mentions of very sensitive topics including; trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship and work struggles, mental health struggles, suicidal ideation, school struggles, bullying, greif, bereavement, Mother loss, violence against women, cancer, witnessing end of life, injustice, estrangement, infertility, pregnancy and child loss, identity crisis, weight and image struggles and suicide.

ADHD Self-relationship with Jon Hill
2026/01/28
February shines the spotlight on romantic relationships. But whether you’re in one, several, or you’re self-partnered; relationships can be challenging for people with ADHD - and with so many of us having experienced traumatic personal relations, abuse, manipulation, violence and isolation; we’re telling Cupid to DO ONE!Our focus for February’s free in-person ADHD Peer Support Groups is on the most important relationship any person can have; Self-relationship. We hope you’ll come along to your local group in Scotland, England or Wales (at last!) to discuss this very important topic with other ADHD adults of marginalised genders.
ADHDAF+ Charity was inspired by and is informed by the work of ADHDAF Podcast. Our 'Chazza' is ABOUT US, BY US, FOR US,
If there isn't a group near you yet; we hope that this episode helps you best support yourself at this challenging time of year and to explore your self-relationship.

Celebrating THREE YEARS of ADHD AF Morning Body Doubling!
2026/01/09
Every single weekday since Jan 8th 2023 a group of LEGENDS have supported each other into the day on Zoom. Fast forward three years and I decided to boycott the standard session and hit record! I hope you enjoy the extra special emotional rollercoaster to celebrate over 1000 days of 7am 'body doubling' with a very special squadron of The Leopard Print Army!
ENORMOUS THANKS to these legends and to all who have got us here(!) because you have helped to - not only create magic (beyond brain magic) but this Podcast's Patreon Community have turned tragedy into triumph; inspiring the creation of ADHDAF+ Charity which has Peer Support Groups in Scotland, England and (soon) Wales, to connect and empower ADHD adults of marginalised genders. A Charity by us for us!
TRIGGER WARNING: Contains swearing, loud laughter, patchy signal, gallows humour and mentions of very sensitive topics including; parent loss, grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship and work struggles, mental health struggles, suicide, school struggles, bullying, and medical negligence.

New Year, Same ADHD & SAD
2026/01/03
Did you turn into a brand new person on the stroke of midnight NYE? US NEITHER! In fact, we're not subscribing to any of that ‘new year, new me’ BS! We can't wish our ADHD away, plus we’re not broken versions of ourselves needing to be fixed! We’re the same people, and we’re facing the coldest and darkest months of year! We meed compassion, not pressure and we need each other!
ADHDAF+ Charity Oxford ADHD Peer Support Group Facilitators Kirsty and Claire, and myself about Seasonal Affective Disorder and navigating the start of 2026; whilst the post Christmas comedown and our Instagram algorithm's are serving shame in heavy doses.
The title is the topic of Jamuary's eight free ADHD Peer Support Groups in Scotland and England; shared in a similar format of the groups to give a feel of what sessions are like and to help educate, validate and shame eradicate.
ADHDAF+ Charity was inspired by and is informed by the work of ADHDAF Podcast. We hope you can make your local group, and if there isn't one near you yet; that this episode helps you best support yourself at this challenging time of year. Please be kind to yourself.
