S4 - EP 15 - BORN TO RAISE HELL: RICHARD SPECK
2026/06/11
Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 15! In our final episode this season, we hitch a ride back to the summer of Chicago, 1966, to tear apart the horrific rampage of Richard Speck.  This is a breakdown of pure, random predation, and a deep-seated psychological complex against women. Speck systematically terrorized, bound, and slaughtered eight young student nurses in a single night. Sixty years later, we are still asking: how did the system fail to stop him? It all came down to a single, courageous survivor who crawled under a bed and outlasted a nightmare. The poison for this episode is The Chicago Wind. If you want to drink with me, you’ll need rye whiskey, fresh lemon juice, demerara syrup, Angostura bitters, and a dry red wine float. The Chicago Wind 2 oz Rye Whiskey¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice½ oz Demerara Syrup2 dashes Angostura BittersTop with a Malbec or dry red wine floatIn a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the rye whiskey, fresh lemon juice, demerara syrup, and bitters. Shake it hard until cold. Strain into a rocks glass over a single large ice cube. Gently pour the dry red wine over the back of a bar spoon so it floats on top. Enjoy! S4 - EP 14 - ROBERT FISHER - WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE
2026/05/28
Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 14! In this episode, we travel into the suffocating desert heat of Scottsdale, Arizona, to dissect the cold-blooded, meticulously calculated crimes of Robert William Fisher. To the outside world, he tried to project the image of a devoted family man, but behind closed doors, he was a volatile tyrant who operated under an obsession with absolute control over his household. When the Fisher family home violently exploded into a wall of 20-foot flames on April 10, 2001, investigators uncovered a horror scene that the fire was specifically rigged to incinerate. Mary Fisher and her two young children hadn't died in the blast—they had been brutally executed in their beds hours before. Leaving behind a rigged gas line and a lit candle as a delayed fuse, Robert secured himself a ten-hour head start and vanished into thin air, landing himself a permanent spot on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list. Twenty-five years later, with his truck found abandoned near a vast network of subterranean desert caves, we are still asking: did he die in the wilderness, or did he successfully pull off the ultimate vanishing act? The poison for this episode is the The Arizona Statehood. If you want to drink with me, you’ll need rye whiskey, Dubonnet Rouge, Gum Syrup, Angostura bitters, and ginger ale. Cherry for garnish. The Arizona Statehood 1 oz Rye Whiskey1 oz Dubonnet Rouge (a fortified, wine-based aperitif)1 dash Gum Syrup1 dash Angostura BittersTop off with Ginger AleGarnish: 1 CherryMix the rye, Dubonnet, gum syrup, and bitters together in a glass with ice. Fill the rest of the glass with ginger ale, stir gently, and drop a cherry on top Enjoy! S4 - EP 13 - THE "SERIOUS MIND" OF DONALD PEE-WEE GASKINS
2026/05/21
Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 13! In this episode, we travel to the backroads and coastal highways of South Carolina to dissect the staggering, chaotic crimes of Donald "Pee Wee" Gaskins. Standing at just 5'3", Gaskins was underestimated, yet he operated under a monstrous, self-styled philosophy he called his "Serious Mind" to become one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. Gaskins defied standard criminal profiling by splitting his horrific career into distinct categories: from the impulsive "coastal killings" of hitchhikers and strangers to the calculated executions of people within his own social circle. But his reign of terror didn't stop behind bars.  His story is a chilling exploration of a severe inferiority complex transformed into a toxic obsession with absolute control. This episode discusses severe psychological manipulation, torture, and graphic violence. Listener discretion is heavily advised. The poison for this episode is the Palmetto. If you want to drink with me, you’ll need aged rum, sweet vermouth, and orange bitters. Palmetto 2 oz Aged Rum1 oz Sweet Vermouth2 dashes Orange BittersOrange twist for garnishIn a mixing glass, combine the aged rum, sweet vermouth, and orange bitters with ice. Stir well until perfectly chilled. Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass, express the oils of an orange twist over the drink, and drop it in. Enjoy! S4 - EP 12 - LAWRENCE E. KING JR. & THE FRANKLIN SCANDAL - PART 2
2026/05/07
Welcome to Season 4, Episode 12 - PART 2 We're back for part two!  Part Two follows the fallout of the missing $40 million from the Franklin Community Federal Credit Union and the investigation into Lawrence E. King Jr. as allegations of abuse and exploitation, involving vulnerable youth, begin to surface. While these claims were documented in testimony and hearings, they were never proven in court and remain heavily disputed.  As investigator Gary Caradori gathered key witness accounts, his sudden death in a plane crash (and the disappearance of critical evidence) only deepened the mystery. Ultimately, grand juries dismissed the allegations as a hoax, leaving behind a case defined by unanswered questions, conflicting narratives, and lasting controversy.  The poison for this episode is the Vixen. 1 1/2 ounces reposado tequila1 ounce Lustau Fino Jarana sherry3/4 ounce Champagne corn cob syrup*Garnish: lemon twistCombine all ingredients in a rocks glass filled with ice and stir thoroughly until well-chilled, finishing the drink with a fresh lemon twist garnish. S4 - EP 12 - LAWRENCE E. KING JR. & THE FRANKLIN SCANDAL - PART 1
2026/04/30
Welcome to Season 4, Episode 12 - PART 1 We're back and I accidentally did another two-parter! We’re digging into the case that turned Omaha into the epicenter of a political and social nightmare: The Franklin Scandal. We’re looking at the $40 million collapse of a credit union and the man at the center of the storm - Lawrence E. King Jr. Was he just a high-society fraudster, or was he the gatekeeper to a pedophile ring reaching the highest levels of the American elite? We’re peeling back the layers of John DeCamp’s allegations, the "Satanic Panic" that blurred the lines of the investigation, and the haunting question of whether justice was served or if the system just closed ranks to protect its own. S4 - EP 11 - THE ATLANTA CHILD MURDERS
2026/04/09
Welcome to Season 4, Episode 11. We’re back in murder land. We’re digging into one of the most heartbreaking and controversial chapters in true crime history: The Atlanta Child Murders. We’re looking at the victims the world almost forgot and the man the system was desperate to pin it on - Wayne Williams. Was he a prolific predator, or a convenient scapegoat for a city on the brink of a race war? We’re peeling back the layers of a botched investigation, the FBI’s involvement, and why these cases are still being talked about decades later. The poison for this episode is the Strawberry Lemon Drop. 2 oz Vodka1 oz Freshly squeezed lemon juice¾ oz Simple syrup2-3 Large, ripe strawberries Splash of Cointreau or Triple SecSugar for the rimMuddle two or three fresh strawberries in a shaker until pulverized, then add premium vodka, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and a splash of Cointreau with plenty of ice. Shake the mixture vigorously for about 15 seconds to ensure it’s ice-cold, then double-strain it through a fine-mesh sieve into a sugar (salt or both)-rimmed martini glass. Enjoy! S4 - EP 10 - THE UNITED STATES OF BLACKMAIL VOL 2 - PART 2
2026/03/26
Welcome to Season 4, Episode 10, Part 2. We’re back in it. In the final chapter of our dive into Whitney Webb’s One Nation Under Blackmail Vol 2., we move out of the smoky backrooms of the 20th-century mob and into the high-tech, high-def world of the modern technocracy. Volume 2, Part 2 is about the digital harvest. We’re picking up right where the "stray cats" met - Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. This isn't just a story about a "creep" and his girlfriend; it’s a breakdown of the infrastructure that made them untouchable. We’re talking about the transition from physical polaroids in a safe to "algorithms in the cloud." The poison for this episode is the Amaretto Sour. 2 oz amaretto (like Disaronno)1 oz fresh lemon juice½ oz simple syrup (optional, depending on how sweet you like it)1 egg white (optional)IceCherry or orange slice if you’re feeling fancyAdd amaretto, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white (if using) into a shaker without ice.  Shake it hard - this is a“dry shake” to get that foam right. S4 - EP 10 - THE UNITED STATES OF BLACKMAIL VOL 2 - PART 1
2026/03/19
Welcome to Season 4, Episode 10. We’re back in it. In this episode, we continue the conversation started in Volume 1, this time diving into “One Nation Under Blackmail: Volume 2” by Whitney Webb. If Volume 1 taught us anything, it’s this: the system was designed this way.  Volume 2 drops us directly into the rise of Jeffrey Epstein. Not just the headline version of Epstein or the crimes we already know. But the infrastructure around him. Epstein didn’t come out of nowhere. This episode focuses on the machinery: who built him, backed him and what purpose he actually served. The poison for this episode is the Amaretto Sour. S4 - EP 9 - THE PIED PIPER OF HOUSTON - DEAN CORLL
2026/03/06
Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 9! In this episode, we descend into the suburbs of 1970s Houston to examine the case of Dean Corll, a man the world remembers as “The Candy Man,” but whose neighborhood knew as "The Pied Piper". Behind the friendly persona was one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. Corll groomed and manipulated teenage boys, ultimately recruiting two of them - David Brooks and Elmer Wayne Henley Jr. - to help lure victims to his apartment. Corll orchestrated what was, at the time, the deadliest serial murder case in American history. His story is a haunting look at how easily a predator can blend into the fabric of a neighborhood and how a system’s indifference toward "runaway" children can provide a monster with a three-year head start. This is a case study in grooming, systemic failure, and the ultimate betrayal of innocence. This episode discusses sexual abuse, coercion, and violence against minors. Listener discretion advised. The poison for this episode is Salted Caramel Old Fashioned. If you want to drink with me, you’ll need bourbon, salted caramel syrup, and black walnut bitters. Salted Caramel Old Fashioned: 2 oz Bourbon½ oz Salted Caramel Syrup2 dashes Black Walnut BittersPinch of sea saltIn a mixing glass, stir the bourbon, syrup, and bitters with ice until chilled. S4 - EP 8 - THE UNITED STATES OF BLACKMAIL - PART 2
2026/02/20
Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 8 - PART 2! In Part 2, we move from smoky back rooms to boardrooms with better lighting. If Part 1 built the foundation - Prohibition money, mob logistics, compromised officials - Part 2 shows what happens when the underworld goes corporate. The old guard dies off, but the infrastructure evolves. Drawing exclusively from Whitney Webb’s One Nation Under Blackmail (Vol. 1), this episode explores how blackmail, intelligence operations, private banking networks, political fixers, and “respectable” institutions converged in the 1970s–1990s to form something far more durable than a crime ring: a system. We discuss the evolution of the “favor bank”, how leverage replaced cash as the ultimate currency and how power adapts when exposed. When one front man falls, another steps in. When a bank collapses, the assets migrate. And when chaos looks random, it isn’t. The thesis remains the same: blackmail isn’t the scandal. It’s the infrastructure. The poison for this episode is the Hemingway Daiquiri. Hemingway Daiquiri: 2 ounces light rum1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur1/2 ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit juice3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice1/4 ounce simple syrupLime wheel, for garnishAdd the rum, maraschino liqueur, lime juice and grapefruit juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. S4 - EP 8 - THE UNITED STATES OF BLACKMAIL - PART 1
2026/02/13
Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 8 - PART 1! In this episode, I pull back the curtain on One Nation Under Blackmail Vol 1. by Whitney Webb - a meticulously sourced deep dive that reframes power, corruption, and control in America as a long-running business model, not a conspiracy theory.  We'll talk about how intelligence agencies, organized crime, financial institutions, and political elites converged to create a system where corruption isn’t a bug - it’s a feature. Blackmail becomes leverage. Leverage becomes policy. And accountability eventually dies. This episode is about power consolidation and what happens when the same actors keep showing up in every scandal because they designed the board. S4 - EP 7 - JANE "JOLLY JANE" TOPPAN: THE KILLER NURSE
2026/01/23
Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 7! In this episode, we examine the case of Jane Toppan, a woman often reduced to the label of “killer nurse,” but whose crimes reveal something far more disturbing. Toppan didn’t simply murder her patients - she manipulated them.  Charged with twelve murders and confessing to at least thirty-one, she exploited a system that trusted caregivers implicitly and rarely questioned deaths labeled as “natural.” Her case forces an uncomfortable conversation about access, authority, and how easily harm can hide behind a smile and a uniform. This is a case study in pathology, power, and what happens when caregiving becomes compulsion. The poison for this episode is the Black Velvet. If you want to drink with me, you’ll need champagne and Guinness stout. Black Velvet: ½ champagne½ Guinness stoutSlowly pour the champagne into a chilled flute, then gently top with Guinness by pouring it over the back of a spoon to create the layered effect. No garnish. Let it sit as it is. Enjoy! ISTDIANG: SOBER TAKE - PAMELA HEMPHILL & JAN 6
2026/01/09
In this Sober Take, we examine the federal sentencing memorandum in Pamela Anne Hemphill, a January 6 case that shows how courts evaluate individual conduct inside a mass event. *CORRECTION:KEPT CALLING HER PATRICIA IN THE EPISODE* Hemphill pleaded guilty to parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a restricted Capitol building, a misdemeanor offense. On its face, the charge appears minor. But the government’s sentencing memorandum argues that her conduct, credibility, and history place the case on the more serious end of the misdemeanor spectrum. The government ultimately recommended 60 days of incarceration, followed by probation, community service, and restitution, emphasizing deterrence, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. This episode does not relitigate January 6.  It explains why context matters using the government’s own filing as the guide. S4 - EP 6 - THE NIGHTMARE LEGEND: SYLVESTER “TWO GUN PETE” WASHINGTON
2026/01/09
Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 6! In this episode, we step deep into Chicago history to unpack the myth and the menace of Sylvester “Two Gun Pete” Washington, one of the most infamous and contradictory figures in the city’s law enforcement past. Celebrated by newspapers as a fearless crime fighter and quietly feared by the communities he policed, Washington was the most recognizable Black police officer in Chicago history. Armed with two pearl-handled .357 magnums, he built a reputation that blurred the line between lawman and outlaw. This episode examines how Washington’s violence was repeatedly ruled “justified,” how celebrity and corruption shielded him from accountability, and how his private life revealed a pattern of abuse, sexual violence, and unchecked power that followed him off the streets and into his home. This is not a Western. It’s not a hero’s story. It’s a case study in how authority, fear, racism, and institutional protection can turn one man into a nightmare legend. The poison for this episode is The Last Word. If you want to drink with me, you’ll need gin, chartreuse, marachino cherries liqueur, lime juice, and brandied cherries. Last Word: 3/4 ounce gin3/4 ounce green Chartreuse3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezedGarnish: brandied cherry (optional)Add the gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, and lime juice to a shaker filled with ice. ISTDIANG: SOBER TAKE - STAKE.US, CELEBRITY GAMBLING & A FEDERAL LAWSUIT
2026/01/07
In this Sober Take, I ramble about a federal class-action lawsuit alleging that Stake.us operates as an illegal online casino in the United States while marketing itself as a “free” social gaming platform. The lawsuit also names celebrity promoters, including Drake and Adin Ross, alleging they were paid to livestream gambling activity using funds supplied by the platform—creating a misleading picture of risk for everyday users. This episode does not determine guilt. Instead, it explains what is being alleged, why the case is being heard in federal court, influencer gambling, and what this lawsuit could mean for social casinos, digital advertising, and online accountability going forward.
