Episode 99: How AI will Change ERP - What's Now, Near, and Next
2026/09/09
AI is not replacing ERP. It’s making it more intelligent. SAP’s Effie Calandra and Eric Annino join Ramesh J. Chougule of Infosys to explore how AI will change cloud ERP, what businesses should prioritize now, near term, and into the future, and why data, governance, and trusted business processes are critical to realizing AI’s value. ===== Will artificial intelligence replace traditional ERP systems, or make them more important than ever? In this episode of The Future of ERP, SAP hosts Effie Calandra and Eric Annino speak with Ramesh J. Chougule, Vice President and Head of SAP Practice for the Americas at Infosys, about how AI is changing cloud ERP and what businesses should prioritize now, in the near term, and into the future. Ramesh explains why ERP will remain the operational backbone of the enterprise, providing the trusted business processes, data, and context that AI needs to deliver meaningful results. He also introduces the concept of a strategic core, where AI can help organizations improve innovation, customer insights, long-term planning, and decision-making. The conversation explores practical applications of AI in finance, procurement, human resources, supply chain, and warehouse operations. Ramesh also shares how companies can prepare their data, establish AI governance, identify high-value use cases, and move beyond isolated pilots toward more intelligent and autonomous business processes. The episode concludes with guidance on one of the biggest AI decisions facing business leaders today: when to use embedded AI capabilities within an ERP platform and when a custom AI solution may be worth the investment. In this episode, you’ll learn: • How ERP provides the data, context, and process integrity AI needs • The difference between an operational core and a strategic core • What organizations should prioritize during the now, near, and next stages of AI adoption • Why data readiness and AI governance are essential for scaling AI • Where companies are already using AI across finance, HR, procurement, and supply chain • How to avoid AI pilot purgatory and connect use cases to measurable business value • How to approach the decision between embedded and custom AI solutions • Why the future of ERP is an increasingly intelligent and responsive operational backbone Useful Links: SAP GROW SAP Cloud ERP Subscribe to The Future of ERP Podcast: Apple Podcasts Spotify Amazin Music Goodpods Pocketcasts Connect With the US:  LinkedIn Feedback or podcast ideas? Episode 98: Rethinking ERP Security in a 24/7 AI Driven World
2026/09/02
Your ERP system never sleeps. Neither does the AI that is trying to break into it. Jan Stoelting and Florian Kohler from KPMG get real about what that means, and why the old security playbook is no longer enough. ===== The episode tackles one of the most urgent questions in enterprise technology: what happens to ERP security when AI empowers both attackers and defenders at the same time? Jan Stoelting and Florian Kohler from KPMG Germany bring over 15 years of cybersecurity experience each to a conversation that goes well beyond standard advice. The core tension is stark: AI has not just raised the bar in cybersecurity, it has lowered the barrier to entry for anyone looking to cause damage. Attackers now operate at machine speed, scanning for vulnerabilities, generating exploits, and breaching defenses faster than any human team can keep up with. ERP systems are named as the crown jewels of any organization, and when they go down, the impact stretches from factory floors to national supply chains. A striking real world case drives the point home: a deepfake video call that convinced an employee to approve 25 million dollars in fraudulent transfers. Jan and Florian introduce the concept of agentic zero trust, extending traditional identity principles to cover AI agents that now act, decide, and orchestrate autonomously inside enterprise systems. Most companies fall short not because they lack technology but because they underestimate governance, visibility, and the need to build security by design from the very start. The shift to the autonomous enterprise makes identity the new control plane, where the critical question is no longer who accessed the system but which agent did what, when, and why.  Useful Links: SAP Cloud ERP https://kpmg.com/ Follow Us on Social Media! Episode 97: If AI is powerful, where is the profit?
2026/08/26
Everyone is talking about AI adoption. But there is one question that boardrooms are quietly avoiding: where is the profit? This episode goes straight at it, and the answer will make you rethink every AI pilot you have ever run. ===== The episode opens with a question that should make any CFO uncomfortable: if AI is this powerful, where exactly is the profit? Roman Krohman, SAP Go-To-Market practice leader at HCLTech, brings over 25 years of enterprise transformation experience and a refreshingly honest take on where the industry is getting it wrong. The numbers are sobering: 88% of companies use AI regularly, yet fewer than 40% can point to any real impact on the P&L. Roman introduces a critical distinction between being human in the loop versus human on the loop, a small preposition shift that signals an entirely different operating model. The pilot to production gap is named for what it really is: a leadership problem, not a technology problem, with most pilots designed as procurement exercises dressed up as innovation. Roman and Oyku unpack the BCG 10/20/70 rule, where 70% of AI value comes from people and process, yet most organizations pour all their energy into the 10% that is the algorithm. A new definition of finance value is proposed, moving beyond cost efficiency toward speed, accuracy, working capital, and resilience as the metrics that actually matter. The Finance Mission Control concept emerges as a practical way to link AI-enabled workflows directly to P&L impact and make value visible before any narrative solidifies. Roman argues that AI agents should be treated exactly like employees: onboarded with defined scope, given guardrails, supervised closely, and retired without hesitation if they underperform. The episode closes with a striking vision of ERP becoming invisible but more critical than ever, no longer a system of record but a system of action. Episode 96: Will ERP Die in the Age of AI?
2026/08/19
AI is changing everything; so why does ERP keep coming up as the thing that makes it all work? This episode gets real about what actually happens when you put AI on top of your core business systems. ===== ERP is not dying and if anything, AI is making it more important than ever. Benjamin Krischer from cbs answers that question without hesitation and builds a compelling case from there. The episode unpacks why ERP remains the foundational data layer that every AI decision ultimately depends on. A new architectural reality is emerging where data, front-end, and AI are separating into distinct layers, reshaping how enterprise systems are built. The autonomous enterprise is closer than people think, but Benjamin is clear that humans must stay in the loop because someone still has to sign off the year-end results. Data quality is the make-or-break factor since bad data fed into AI does not produce bad outputs, it produces confidently wrong ones. Structured ERP data and messy external sources need to be governed, semantically aligned, and treated as real business assets. Greenfield implementations offer a clean AI-ready start, but Benjamin notes that most companies are navigating selective data transitions from existing landscapes. Transformation is not a project with an end date. It is a continuous journey, and as Benjamin puts it, it never truly ends. Download Episode Transcript Useful Links: SAP Cloud ERP Explore cbs System Landscape Transformation   Follow Us on Social Media! Episode 87: Cyber Endurance: Zero Trust Strategies to Secure Your Cloud ERP
2026/04/29
Join the conversation with Under Armour's cybersecurity expert Gaurav Singh to dive deeper into cyber endurance. Learn zero-trust strategies to secure your cloud ERP and stay agile in API-driven systems. ===== This Future of ERP podcast episode explores cybersecurity resilience in ERP systems, emphasizing endurance and agility to protect brands and supply chains. It highlights the shift from on-premises as a "black box" to cloud-first, API-driven environments that demand new security approaches. Zero trust architecture emerges as essential for securing modern ERP, given its openness to external threats. Daily security practices, like layered defenses, parallel athletic endurance to stay ahead of evolving cyber adversaries. Operational challenges include balancing availability with patching, prioritizing business continuity over rigid security timelines. Policies, standards, and controls form the foundation, supported by people, processes, and technology to safeguard sensitive data. A performance mindset fosters resilience through regular testing of business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Strong cybersecurity shifts from a cost center to a business enabler by partnering with teams rather than blocking initiatives. The future of ERP is predicted to be API-first, hybrid, and AI-integrated, heightening the need for proactive identity management. Overall, the discussion calls for continuous learning to keep pace with threats in this dynamic landscape. Download Episode Transcript Useful Links:   SAP Cloud ERP Follow Us on Social Media! Episode 86: Rethinking Segregation of Duties, Cross-System Risks in Hybrid Environment with Infosys
2026/04/15
Can your ERP really be compliant if you only look at one system at a time? In this episode with Infosys, we explore how cross-system risks, dynamic access decisions, and integrated governance are reshaping segregation of duties in hybrid ERP landscapes. ===== The future of ERP is no longer just about moving systems to the cloud, it’s about how businesses manage risk in an increasingly connected, automated, and hybrid world. In our latest episode, we sit down with Nishad Showkath from Infosys to unpack why segregation of duties needs a rethink when business processes stretch across on-premise systems, cloud applications, APIs, and automated workflows. Traditional SoD was built for a simpler era, but today’s ERP landscape is far more complex, and risks don’t always stay inside one system. What does that mean in practice? It means organizations can no longer rely on system-by-system compliance checks and assume the full process is secure. A user may create something in one platform, approve it in another, and complete the workflow somewhere else entirely, creating hidden cross-system risks that older approaches miss. Nishad shares why identity silos, fragmented risk libraries, and disconnected provisioning tools make this challenge even harder, and what companies need to do to build a more complete view of access and control. We also talk about what comes next: dynamic access decisions, automated risk analysis, continuous monitoring, and integrated governance that can follow the business process instead of just the individual application. Nishad explains how AI, machine learning, and identity access management tools are shaping the next phase of SoD, and why the future of ERP security will depend on treating enterprise risk as one connected ecosystem rather than a set of isolated systems. Download Episode Transcript Useful Links:   SAP Cloud ERP Follow Us on Social Media!
