Description

This podcast is about everything plants. It is in episodic format.  The first few were dedicated to kitchen gardens.  I talk about indoor plants and making your gardens stress-free.  And on a budget! I also have minis on women who paved the way for women like myself in this industry.  From the first to get degrees in horticulture, to the women who made it easier for us modern gals to study at places like Burnley In 2025, I start a new imagining of bites.  These are about my favourite plants and how you will also fall in love with them.  I will tell you about how to grow them. In the future, I hope to have some interviews with women in horticulture of today.

Mini 15 Dr Thistle Yolette Harris
2025/11/05
Send us a text To a woman who didn't suffer fools gladly, she was a force to be reckoned with.   I applaud her tenacity and flair for being outspoken in a world when it was hard to speak openly as a woman.  But it was in a time when being an outspoken woman was frowned upon.  And she did shack up with a man 25 years her senior while he was still married to another woman, with whom he had fathered seven children.  However, if she'd been a man doing this at the time, would there still be the dramatics associated with her? Listen, it's a good one! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=208886333861966 Stead, Thistle Yolette (1902-1990). 2025/10/28
Send us a text Hello my dear leaflets, October is Australia's Mental Health Awareness Month.  I do hope you're all ok.  Some links for my top four countries that listen to my little pod: In Australia: https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/mental-health-helplines. This is a blanket site that will point you in the right direction.  In the UK: https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/ In Germany: https://www.dzpg.org/ - it automatically changed to En for me, which was lovely! In the USA: https://www.nami.org/ (you do have to confirm you're human with this one,..) Send us a text Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this episode will contain names of deceased persons.  Associated social media will contain names and images of deceased persons. With the end of NAIDOC week, I decided to look up some early Aboriginal gardeners; however, this proved a wee bit difficult.  I chat about why this is the case.  Also speak about two ladies who were quoted to have a vast knowledge of plants, the environment, and their uses. Please check out the show notes if you're interested in reading more about the day-to-day lives of these women.   50 years ago was the first scientific source acknowledged the first peoples of Australia and their understanding of the plant world.
