175. "I Hate My Body": How to Heal Your Relationship With Your Body After Decades of Self Criticism
2026/09/28
You have spent decades trying to change your body, believing that once you did, you'd finally feel better about yourself and somehow, life would feel happier too.
Maybe you've dieted for decades. You've picked apart certain parts of your body. You've compared yourself to other women. And somewhere along the way, you started believing that changing your body would finally change everything.
Anne Poirier is back on the Emotional Eats Podcast after our first powerful conversation in Episode 151. I thought the first was deep, but this time we're going deeper.
What does it actually mean to heal your relationship with your body?
Because healing doesn't necessarily mean looking in the mirror every morning and loving everything you see. It may mean learning to trust your body again, quieting the voice that constantly criticizes it, and taking care of yourself without punishment, perfectionism, or another diet.
Anne and I also talk about something I know can feel complicated. What if you want to stop dieting, but you still want your body to change? Can those two things exist at the same time?
In this conversation, we talk about:
What healing your relationship with your body actually looks like in everyday life How decades of dieting can disconnect you from your body and its signals Why the inner critic can be so hard to quiet Wanting your body to change without going back to dieting and punishment How social media, GLP-1s, AI, and our changing culture are affecting body image Moving your body from a place of joy instead of trying to earn food or change your size If you've spent years telling yourself, "I'll feel better when I lose the weight," this conversation may give you a very different way to think about your body, your health, and what it means to finally stop waiting to live your life.
Make sure you go back and listen to Anne's first interview. Episode 151

174. Eating Disorders, Genetics, and the Brain: What We May Be Missing
2026/09/21
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
Paige Gordon lived with bulimia nervosa for over two decades. She went through residential treatment, inpatient treatment, therapy, and nutritional counseling, yet continued to struggle.
What made her experience especially difficult was being given explanations for her eating disorder that never seemed to fit. Paige didn't relate to an obsession with thinness, and she didn't feel that emotional eating explained what was happening either. Instead, she describes an intense drive toward food and constant food noise that felt biological.
Eventually, her own recovery experience led her to start asking a different question: What was actually happening in her brain and body?
Today, Paige is an author, advocate, speaker, and member of the Board of Directors of the National Eating Disorders Association. She has become deeply involved in eating disorder research and advocacy, with a particular interest in genetics, brain reward pathways, hunger and satiety signaling, and the potential role of GLP-1 pathways.
In this conversation, Paige shares:
• Why eating disorders may have very different underlying causes from one person to another
• What food noise felt like for her and why it was different from hunger
• How genetics, trauma, environment, and reward circuitry may influence eating behavior
• Her personal experience with GLP-1 medication and why she believes much more research is needed
• Why lived experience needs a bigger voice in eating disorder research
• Why women struggling with food deserve curiosity and compassion instead of comparison and shame
We also talk about how easily eating disorders can remain hidden, the difference between disordered eating and a diagnosed eating disorder, and why Paige believes treatment needs to become much more individualized.
Paige's upcoming memoir, Searching for Full, tells the story of her eating disorder, recovery, and search for answers. One hundred percent of her royalties will go back into eating disorder research.
This is a fascinating conversation about how much we still have to learn about the brain, eating behavior, and why the same answers may not work for every woman.
About Paige Gordon
Paige Gordon is an eating disorder recovery advocate, speaker, and author of Searching for Full. After living with bulimia for 22 years, she began questioning the long-held belief that our relationship with food is simply a matter of willpower. Today, she combines her lived experience with emerging research in neuroscience and biology to help people better understand food noise, emotional eating, and the complex factors that shape our relationship with food.
As a member of the Board of Directors of the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), Paige collaborates with researchers, clinicians, and advocacy organizations to advance a more biologically informed understanding of eating disorders. Her work encourages people to replace shame with curiosity and empowers them to approach food, body image, and healing with greater compassion and understanding.

173. Peptides for Women Over 40: What You Need to Know Before You Try Them
2026/09/14
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
Peptides are everywhere right now. GLP-1s, BPC-157, growth hormone-releasing peptides, copper peptides. But what exactly are they, and where do they fit into your health as a woman in midlife?
Is it real or a new trend?
In this episode, I sit down with Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner and peptide-trained practitioner Bria Gadd for a conversation that helped me understand this rapidly growing area of women's health in a completely different way.
Bria breaks down what peptides actually are, why women over 40 are becoming so interested in them, and the potential roles they may play in metabolic health, recovery, muscle, gut health, skin, hair, weight loss, and healthy aging.
But this conversation isn't about chasing the newest quick fix.
Bria explains why nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, metabolic health, and hormone optimization need to come first. We also talk about GLP-1s and food noise, testing before using peptides, cycling, potential risks, sourcing, and why buying peptides from questionable sources can be a very different thing from working with a qualified practitioner and compounding pharmacy.
This is one of my favorite points from Bria. Think of your health like a cake. Your foundations are the cake. Hormone optimization is the icing. Peptides and other biohacking tools are the sprinkles.
You have to bake the cake first.
In this episode, we talk about:
What peptides are and how they work in the body Why peptides are getting so much attention from midlife women The health foundations Bria wants in place before considering peptides GLP-1s, metabolic health, insulin resistance, food noise, and weight loss BPC-157, growth hormone-releasing peptides, and GHK-Cu copper peptides Why testing and hormone optimization can matter before starting peptide therapy Safety, cycling, sourcing, compounding pharmacies, and the peptide gray market Why peptides may be a powerful tool for some women, but aren't meant to replace the work you're already doing for your health If you've been hearing about peptides and wondering whether they're something you should explore, this episode will help you understand the conversation, know what questions to ask, and make a more informed decision about what may be right for you.

172. How to Reinvent Yourself in Midlife and Feel More Alive
2026/09/07
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
Maybe it's more joy. More fun. More connection. More freedom.
Or maybe you've spent so many years being the mom, the caregiver, the responsible one, the strong one, that somewhere along the way you stopped asking yourself a really important question: What do I actually want?
In this episode, Caroline (Caro) de Posada and I talk about what happens when the life you've built looks good on paper, but something still feels off. We get into the guilt that can come with admitting you're not happy with something you think you should be grateful for, the identities you've carried for years, and the fear that can keep you choosing what's familiar even when you know you want something different.
We also talk about permission. Permission to change your mind. To break some of the rules you've been living by. To stop waiting until you lose the weight, the kids grow up, work slows down, or everything finally falls into place before you let yourself enjoy your life.
And Caro gives us a simple way to start: Notice. Name. Nurture. You don't need to overhaul your life. You need to start paying attention to what's working, what you want, and the next small step that moves you toward it.
In This Episode:
Why you can lose touch with what you actually enjoy and want How fear, old identities, and people pleasing can keep you stuck Why waiting for the next goal can keep you from enjoying your life now Caroline's simple Notice, Name, Nurture approach How to start noticing and creating more moments of joy and aliveness in your everyday life If you are looking to get back to yourself, this is the episode for you!
About Caroline de Posada
Caroline de Posada is a bilingual life coach, speaker, and podcast host (Bliss'n Up) who helps high-achievers stop drifting and start choosing a life that sparks joy. As the daughter of renowned motivational speaker Dr. Joachim de Posada, Caroline grew up immersed in the principles of personal development - and became living proof of them. She didn't inherit a philosophy. She built a joyful life on purpose, from a chaotic foundation, and now teaches others to do the same. 171. How to Stop Emotional Eating by Understanding the 4 Emotional Eater Types
2026/08/31
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
You know you're not always hungry when you are reaching for the food, but you still find yourself digging into the sugar or food especially at night and wondering, why can't I stop doing this?
In this episode, I'm talking with registered dietitian Sherri Clarke, creator of the Four Emotional Eater Types framework, about why emotional eating goes so much deeper than food, discipline, or trying harder.
Sherri also shares her own powerful experience with emotional eating and how food became a source of comfort for her long before she understood what was happening. We talk about the patterns you may have learned years ago, why they can still show up decades later, and how getting curious instead of critical can begin to change your relationship with food.
In this episode, you'll hear:
The four different emotional eater types and how to recognize yourself in them How childhood experiences can shape the way you use food today Why high-achieving, disciplined women can still feel completely out of control around food How IFS can help you understand the "parts" of you that turn to food A simple CBT tool to help interrupt an emotional eating moment How mindfulness can help you pause and ask what you actually need Why willpower may work temporarily but doesn't create lasting change Why healing emotional eating doesn't necessarily mean never eating emotionally again This conversation isn't about giving you more food rules. It's about helping you understand why you're reaching for the food in the first place and what might change when you stop fighting yourself and start getting curious.
About Sherri Clarke
Sherri Clarke is a registered dietitian with a master's degree and special training in IFS, CBT, and Mindfulness. She's been in private practice since 2013, working exclusively with adults who want to change their relationship with food. She's also the creator of the 4 Emotional Eater Types framework and the Emotional Eater Quiz at sherriclarkenutrition.com. What makes her unique is that she doesn't just treat emotional eating — she's lived it herself.

170. Why You Can't Stop Emotional Eating in Midlife
2026/08/24
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
I had been connecting with Maryanna on social media for a while, and somewhere along the way I started listening to her podcast, Take the Turn, with her husband Jay. I really enjoyed their conversations about navigating midlife and all the changes that come with it. So when they asked me to come on and talk about emotional eating, I was extremely honored.
And we had such a great conversation.
We talked about my own history with emotional and secret eating, why you cannot out-diet emotional eating, and why midlife and menopause can make our relationship with food feel even harder. We also get into sugar cravings and dopamine, perfectionism and people pleasing, blood sugar, slowing down when you eat, and why so many capable women can take care of everyone and everything but still feel out of control around food.
Most importantly, we talk about looking beyond what you're eating and getting curious about what is happening before you reach for the food.
If you've ever wondered why you know what to do but still find yourself reaching for sugar, overeating, or using food to comfort yourself, I think you'll really enjoy this conversation.
Check out the Take the Turn Podcast especially if you are in your 40's and 50's and are navigating all the midlife things.

169. Why You Keep Starting Over With Weight Loss (Especially After 40)
2026/08/17
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast! I'm so glad you're here.
How many times have you said, "I'll start after vacation... after the holidays... when life settles down... when I lose the weight"?
The problem is that life never really settles down. Are you putting off your health and happiness all the time?
In this episode, I'm challenging one of the biggest beliefs keeping women stuck: that you'll finally take care of yourself, feel confident, or be happy when the timing is perfect.
We talk about:
Why waiting for the "right time" keeps you stuck The hidden cost of putting your life on hold How the "I'll be happy when..." mindset steals your joy Why your health habits need to work in your daily and real life, not some perfect life Small, sustainable actions you can start today that are easy How to stop postponing your happiness and start living now because you deserve it Your body doesn't have to hold your life hostage. You don't have to wait until you lose the weight to enjoy vacations, take the picture, wear the clothes, or fully live.
Your life isn't the dress rehearsal. It's happening right now. Don't miss out!

168. How to Stop Gaining Weight After 40 (It's Not Just Hormones)
2026/08/10
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
You think you've been eating healthy. You're exercising.
You're doing everything the way you've always been told to take care of your body.
So why is your weight still creeping up? Why are your sugar cravings stronger than ever? Why are you exhausted, stressed, emotional, and why you don't feel like yourself anymore?
The truth is, your body has changed. The strategies that worked in your 20s and 30s aren't working or even healthy in midlife.
In this episode, I sit down with board-certified gynecologist and menopause specialist Dr. Christina Enzmann to talk about what's really happening during menopause. Dr. Christina goes beyond hormones and we explore how stress, blood sugar, gut health, cortisol, inflammation, and metabolic health all work together to affect your energy, cravings, mood, and weight.
If you've ever been told your labs are "normal" but you know something doesn't feel right, this conversation is for you. You'll walk away understanding why your body feels different, why the old rules aren't working anymore.
You will learn what you can start focusing on instead.
In this episode, we discuss:
Why the old advice of "eat less and move more" often stops working in midlife The connection between stress, cortisol, and sugar cravings How blood sugar and insulin resistance affect weight, energy, and emotional eating Why gut health and inflammation matter more than most women realize The impact of overexercising and under-fueling during menopause Why your lab work can look "normal" even when you don't feel like yourself Practical ways to support your metabolism and feel more like yourself again About Dr. Christina

167. Why You Can't Stop Stress Eating (Until You Slow Down)
2026/08/03
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast! I'm so glad you're here.
Have you ever noticed that you're rushing through everything in your daily life?
Your mornings are chaotic. Your conversations are rushed and you really aren't listening or you speak too fast. Your workouts are like cardio with weights. Even your vacations. Cramming events in and rushing to get back to your normal life.
Then, at the end of it all, food becomes the first place you finally slow down. It becomes your resting place.
In this episode, Kim explores a powerful perspective: what if emotional eating isn't just about food? What if the way you eat is reflecting the pace of your entire life? Binge eating food can equal bingeing life.
Kim shares why slowing down feels so uncomfortable, how food can become a temporary escape from stress and overwhelm, and why creating more presence in your day may be one of the most important steps toward healing your relationship with food.
In This Episode
• Why the way you do one thing is often the way you do everything
• How a rushed, overwhelmed life can show up in your relationship with food
• Why food often becomes the first place your nervous system finally gets to chill out
• The connection between emotional eating, avoidance, and slowing down
• Simple ways to bring more presence, peace, and intention into your everyday life
Healing emotional eating isn't just about changing what you eat. It's about changing how you experience your life. When you begin slowing down, becoming more present, and creating a life you no longer need to escape from, your relationship with food can begin to change too.

166. Why You Can't Stop Eating (Even When You Know Better)
2026/07/27
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
What if your body isn't fighting you...what if it's protecting you?
If you've been dieting for years, wondering why you can't stay out of the food, this conversation may completely change the way you think about weight loss and your eating.
In this episode, I sit down with naturopathic doctor, Dr. Andrea Maxim, to explore the deeper emotional patterns that can keep women stuck in cycles of dieting, emotional eating, and weight regain. We discuss the concept of "protective weight," how your nervous system and unconscious beliefs influence your relationship with food, and why lasting change requires more than another meal plan or diet. It's so much deeper and if you're ready, you can feel in control and empowered.
Episode Highlights
What "protective weight" is and why your body may be holding onto weight for reasons that have nothing to do with willpower. The connection between childhood experiences, limiting beliefs, and emotional eating. Why so many women feel like they're self-sabotaging and what's really happening beneath the surface. A simple way to understand emotional eating and why food often becomes our go-to coping strategy. What "food noise" really means and why it's so mentally exhausting. How perfectionism, people-pleasing, and poor boundaries contribute to overeating. Why slowing down and creating a pause before eating can help break automatic food habits. The difference between dieting for punishment and making choices from a place of self-respect. How shifting your identity not just your eating habits can create lasting freedom with food. The journey to lasting weight loss and food freedom isn't just about changing what you eat or dieting. It's about understanding why you turn to food in the first place, healing the beliefs that no longer serve you, and creating a sense of safety in your mind and body.

165. Stop Emotional Eating, Lose Weight, and Learn How to Quit the Right Way
2026/07/20
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
You can't understand why you keep getting into the snacks at night so you turn to another diet. You tun to restriction, food rules, chasing the scale, and quitting when life gets hard. If you've ever wondered why you keep ending up in that cycle, this episode is for you.
In this episode, I'm welcoming back Holly Bertone for a conversation that builds on our first interview about emotional eating. This time, we're exploring what comes next. Once you begin healing your relationship with food, how do you create lasting, sustainable weight loss without falling back into the diet cycle? The one you have been stuck in for years.
Holly shares her remarkable journey from working for the FBI to becoming an emotional eating and weight loss coach, and explains how her background in pattern analysis helped her develop a completely different way of looking at lasting change.
Together, we talk about why so many women stay stuck, how diet culture has shaped the way we think about our bodies, the role of identity and nervous system regulation, and why real transformation goes far beyond the number on the scale.
Listen to the end because Holly shares that there is a way to quit that won't perpetuate the cycle.

164. How to Eat Sugar Without Losing Control
2026/07/13
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
Have you ever planned to eat just one piece of chocolate, only to find yourself reaching for more? And then finishing the whole chocolate bar?
In this episode, Kim shares a personal story about enjoying one of her favorite treats without guilt, shame, or spiraling into eating 10.
She explains why sugar cravings are often about not really about the food. The sugar does light up a part of the brain that makes us happy, but what is happening before is really the key to eating less sugar. Stress, loneliness, overwhelm, and the brain's reward system can make it feel impossible to stop at just one or two. Those extra pieces or cookies are just helping you numb out.
In episode 164, you'll learn practical, realistic strategies to enjoy sugar intentionally while supporting your blood sugar, metabolic health, and weight loss goals. The best part is eating a treat once in a while without feeling like you have to swear off your favorite foods forever.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why sugar cravings are often driven by emotions, not hunger How dopamine and the brain's reward system influence cravings A simple step-by-step approach to enjoying a treat without losing control Why protein and fiber can help stabilize blood sugar before dessert How slowing down, savoring your food, and giving yourself permission to eat can change your relationship with sugar Practical tips to stop one treat from turning into a week of overeating If you've ever felt like sugar has too much control over your life, this episode will help you build a healthier, more peaceful relationship with one intentional choice at a time.

163. Why You Know What to Eat But Still Can't Lose Weight
2026/07/06
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
If you've ever found yourself standing in the pantry at night wondering, "Why am I doing this again?" this episode is for you.
You know exactly what to eat. You've read the books, followed the meal plans, counted the calories, and started over more times than you can count. Yet you still feel out of control around food and blame yourself for not having enough willpower.
What if the problem isn't discipline at all?
In this compassionate conversation, Kim sits down with licensed spiritual practitioner, yoga instructor, and coach Stacey Paige to explore the emotional roots of weight struggles in midlife. Together, they unpack how limiting beliefs, nervous system overwhelm, unprocessed emotions, and lifelong patterns can quietly drive emotional eating, even when you know all the "right" things to do.
Rather than offering another list of food rules, this episode focuses on helping you better understand yourself while giving you practical tools you can begin using today.
In this episode, you'll learn:
How subconscious beliefs formed in childhood can shape your relationship with food and your body. The surprising connection between self-worth and self-sabotage. Why emotional eating is often an attempt to soothe stress, grief, loneliness, or overwhelm rather than satisfy hunger. How chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation make emotional eating more likely. The difference between reacting to life and responding to it. Why creating a simple daily mindfulness practice can completely change your relationship with food. How walking, nature, breathwork, and quiet reflection can help process emotions instead of suppressing them. Why true intuitive eating requires more than simply "listening to your body." Practical ways to begin breaking free from lifelong dieting patterns without relying on more willpower. Stacey explains that lasting change happens when we stop trying to fight the behavior and instead become curious about what's driving it.
Your emotional eating may be pointing toward something that needs compassion, healing, and attention rather than more restriction.
When you begin addressing the root causes instead of only the behavior, everything starts to change.
About Stacey Paige
Stacey Paige is a licensed spiritual practitioner, yoga instructor, and coach who believes lasting change begins with the relationship we have with ourselves. Rather than pushing harder or relying on willpower, she helps people understand the patterns, beliefs, and protective habits that shape how they move through life.
Through mindfulness, nervous system support, and compassionate self-awareness, Stacey guides people toward sustainable inner change so they can feel more grounded, connected, and free to create meaningful lives of their own design.

162. The Surprising Way to Stop Sugar and Carb Cravings
2026/06/29
Welcome to the Emotional Eats Podcast!
Are you thinking about food all day long? Grabbing something sweet with your coffee? Finding yourself in the pantry at night wondering why you can't stop?
You may assume you're to addicted to sugar, lack willpower, or just need more self-control. But what if the real problem isn't the food?
What if your body is simply exhausted?
In this episode, Kim explores one of the most overlooked causes of emotional eating, cravings, food noise, and weight struggles: sleep.
You'll learn how poor sleep affects your hunger hormones, blood sugar, stress response, emotional regulation, and even the reward centers of your brain. If sugar feels impossible to resist after a bad night of sleep, there may be a biological reason why.
This conversation is especially important for women in perimenopause and menopause, when hormone changes, nighttime wake-ups, anxiety, and blood sugar swings can make cravings feel overwhelming.
In This Episode:
• Why sleep deprivation increases hunger and cravings
• The roles of ghrelin, leptin, and GLP-1 in appetite and fullness
• Why sugar and processed foods become harder to resist when you're tired
• The connection between sleep, stress, emotional eating, and food noise
• How menopause impacts sleep and cravings
• Practical tools to improve sleep and feel more in control around food
• Why blood sugar may be one of the biggest keys to better sleep and fewer cravings
If food has been taking up too much space in your brain lately, don't skip this episode. It may help you understand what's really driving your cravings and what your body has been asking for all along.
