In June 2020, at the height of the COVID lockdown, 40 year old Aneta Zdun and her 18 year old daughter Nikoleta were killed by husband and father Marcin Zdun. Their 6 and 5 year old daughters witnessed the horrific murders and were screaming for their mother and sister.   A man with a history of violence, control and abuse, he killed Aneta and Nikoleta just six weeks after Aneta had kicked him out of their home to escape the abuse.   Even though the murders were witnessed by two young children and a number of members of the public, Zdun still tried to minimise what he had done. He was found guilty of their murder though and sentenced to life.   This is the story of the Zdun Family.   Unlock the Killer in the family Vault today https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   Get ad-free, early access episodes and one bonus episode every months with exclusive access to the Killer in the family Vault https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   ________________________________________________________________    Information and support  Samaritans UK Contact Us | Samaritans Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) Home - AAFDA Women’s Aid Home - Women's Aid National Domestic Abuse Helpline UK 0808 2000 247 Mental health support USA Mental Health America | Homepage | Mental Health America Domestic abuse helpline USA 1.800.799.SAFE Domestic Violence Support | National Domestic Violence Hotline   References  'Psycho' jailed for life for murdering wife and daughter - BBC News   R -v- Marcin Zdun sentencing remarks   Marcin Zdun guilty of murdering wife and daughter - BBC News   Salisbury Marcin Zdun murders: Family's fear & 'nightmares' | Salisbury Journal   Salisbury double murder accused Zdun 'felt harassed' - BBC News   Salisbury double murder accused Marcin Zdun admits killing - BBC News   Credits     Hosted and created by Clare Laxton @ladylaxton     Produced by Clare Laxton    Part of W!ZARD Studios @wizradio    Music by Pixabay     If you want early access, ad-free episodes of Killer in the family as well as one bonus episode per month, unlock the Killer in the family Vault today: https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   If you’re enjoying the podcast and would like to support its running, please consider buying me a coffee buymeacoffee.com/clarelaxton    See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In 2014, 66 year old Christine Lee and her 40 year old daughter Lucy Lee were shot and killed by Christine’s partner 82 year old John Lowe.   Lowe was a violent and controlling man who had a history of criminality and yet was allowed to retain his firearms licence and his shotguns. He killed Christine as she was planning to leave him and maintained the murders were an accident. This is a case with a lot of agency engagement and red flags and clear systemic failings towards the victims.   This is the story of Christine and Lucy Lee.   Unlock the Killer in the family Vault today https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   Get ad-free, early access episodes and one bonus episode every months with exclusive access to the Killer in the family Vault https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   ________________________________________________________________    Information and support  Samaritans UK Contact Us | Samaritans Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) Home - AAFDA Women’s Aid Home - Women's Aid National Domestic Abuse Helpline UK 0808 2000 247 Mental health support USA Mental Health America | Homepage | Mental Health America Domestic abuse helpline USA 1.800.799.SAFE Domestic Violence Support | National Domestic Violence Hotline   References  Surrey shootings: 'This is a nightmare,' says woman whose sister and mother were killed at Farnham puppy farm | London Evening Standard | The Standard Puppy farm murderer John Lowe dies in prison | Surrey Live   Who was John Lowe? In September 2021 in Derbyshire, 35 year old Terri Harris was killed by her partner Damien Bendall – she was pregnant at the time. He also killed her two children – 13 year old John Paul and 11 year old Lacey and Lacey’s friend Connie Gent. He also raped Lacey.   Bendall pled guilty and received a whole-life sentence. They had married just the day before – unbeknownst to Mary it was Tom Otter’s second marriage and he already had another wife and child as well.   Thought to have killed her to escape the responsibility of a family, Otter was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. He was the last man in Lincolnshire to be gibbeted and his name is carried across the area. Mary Kirkham was buried in an unmarked grave.   This is the story of Mary Kirkham.   Unlock the Killer in the family Vault today https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   Get ad-free, early access episodes and one bonus episode every months with exclusive access to the Killer in the family Vault https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   ________________________________________________________________    Information and support  Samaritans UK Contact Us | Samaritans Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) Home - AAFDA Women’s Aid Home - Women's Aid National Domestic Abuse Helpline UK 0808 2000 247 Mental health support USA Mental Health America | Homepage | Mental Health America Domestic abuse helpline USA 1.800.799.SAFE Domestic Violence Support | National Domestic Violence Hotline   References  218 years on: Discover the terrible tale of Tom Otter at Lincoln Castle – Lincolnshire County Council   Some Further Terror and Peculiar Mark of Infamy | Springer Nature Link   Villain or Victim: was Tom Otter wrongfully accused? – Lincolnshire Folk Tales Project   Tom Otter – Lincolnshire Folk Tales Project   Tom Otter wedding certificate | Living a Literary Lifestyle.   Credits     Hosted and created by Clare Laxton @ladylaxton     Produced by Clare Laxton    Part of W!ZARD Studios @wizradio    Music by Pixabay     If you want early access, ad-free episodes of Killer in the family as well as one bonus episode per month, unlock the Killer in the family Vault today: https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   If you’re enjoying the podcast and would like to support its running, please consider buying me a coffee buymeacoffee.com/clarelaxton    See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In July 2003, 39 year old Joanie Harper, her mother 70 year old Earnestine Harper and her three children 4 year old Marques, 2 year old Lyndsey and 6 week old Marshall were brutally killed by husband, son in law and father Vincent Brothers.   A seemingly well respected school Vice Principal, Brothers had a history of violence and abuse and carried out a planned and calculated murder of his whole family – while believing that his airtight alibi would remove him from suspicion.   Through forensics, entomology and investigating the mileage of a rental car, Brothers was arrested and tried for the murders of his family and is currently sitting on death row in California.   This is the story of the Harper Family.   Unlock the Killer in the family Vault today https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   Get ad-free, early access episodes and one bonus episode every months with exclusive access to the Killer in the family Vault https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership   ________________________________________________________________    Come and join me at CrimeCon in London on the 3rd and 4th of October! He also shot Kerry and Lisa’s father Thomas who was with them that evening and shot and injured Kerry’s new boyfriend 22 year old Christoper Gall. He survived.   Baker then jumped in a car and went on to shoot and kill his 27 year old son David Baker and then travelled to kill 35 year old Ross Smith and 25 year old Leslie Read who was reportedly pregnant at the time. Baker blamed Ross for a failed business deal.   Baker was a violent, abusive and controlling perpetrator who sought revenge on his ex-girlfriend who had left him to protect herself. He later handed himself into police and died in prison in 2024.   This is the story of Kerry, Lisa and Thomas Gannan, David Baker, Ross Smith and Leslie Read. ________________________________________________________________    Come and join me at CrimeCon in London on the 3rd and 4th of October! She was 18 weeks pregnant with her fourth child. Her husband Andrew Griggs told police that Debbie left their house after an argument just never came back.   Although police doubted Griggs story of events, they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him at the time as the search for Debbie continued to turn up nothing. It would take her family over 20 years to finally see justice.   Prompted by Debbie’s family to re-investigate in 2015, Kent Police Cold Case team took up Debbie’s case.   What they found was evidence of coercive control, sexual abuse by Griggs and forensic evidence that meant they could finally arrest Debbie’s husband for her murder. Griggs was later convicted of her murder and started serving a prison sentence.   In 2022, police received a new lead on where Debbie’s body might be – from the most unexpected source – one of Debbie’s now adult children.   The body of Debbie and her 18 week old unborn baby was found in the garden of Griggs’ house in Dorset that he moved into in 2001. She was finally laid to rest.   This is the story of Debbie Griggs.   Information and support  Samaritans UK Contact Us | Samaritans Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) Home - AAFDA Women’s Aid Home - Women's Aid National Domestic Abuse Helpline UK 0808 2000 247 Mental health support USA Mental Health America | Homepage | Mental Health America Domestic abuse helpline USA 1.800.799.SAFE Domestic Violence Support | National Domestic Violence Hotline   References  The vanishing of Debbie Griggs documentary https://youtu.be/yJEKJv05vqo?si=-eC5CfoudLJphGal   Andrew Griggs: The wife killer who escaped justice for 20 years - BBC News   Debbie Griggs death: Murder accused 'was having sex with girl, 15' - BBC News   Andrew Griggs: Killer who hid pregnant wife’s body under patio for 23 years asked son to dig up her remains | The Independent   Debbie Griggs: Remains found of woman murdered by husband in 1999 - BBC News   Extended prison sentence for murderer | The Crown Prosecution Service   'People say I'm naive and in denial': Woman married to convicted killer she says is a 'true gentleman' still does not believe he murdered his first wife | Daily Mail Online   Documentary The Vanishing of Debbie Griggs to air on Sky Crime this weekend 25 years on: Kent Police detectives on finding Debbie Griggs and bringing killer husband Andrew Griggs to justice   Andrew Griggs jailed for murdering pregnant wife Debbie - BBC News   Credits  Hosted and created by Clare Laxton @ladylaxton  Produced by Clare Laxton  Part of W!ZARD Studios @wizradio  Music by Pixabay    If you want early access, ad-free episodes of Killer in the family as well as one bonus episode per month, unlock the Killer in the family Vault today: https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily   If you’re enjoying the podcast and would like to support its running, please consider buying me a coffee buymeacoffee.com/clarelaxton   See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
