Sacrifice for the System | When Missions Giving Becomes Spiritual Abuse – SPECIAL LIVE
2026/09/27
In this Grace Escape LIVE special, we examine Josh Herring’s “The Uncomfortable Church” sermon at POA and ask when biblical generosity crosses the line into spiritual coercion. We look at how passages about Barnabas, Ananias and Sapphira, sacrificial giving, revival, family salvation, and “God giving you a number” are used to make an institutional financial decision feel like obedience to God. Along the way, we open the passages Josh did not, compare similar giving appeals from other Pentecostal preachers, and ask what Scripture actually says about voluntary giving, conscience, and compulsion. The issue is not generosity or missions, it is what happens when fear, divine authority, and promised spiritual outcomes are attached to how much money you give. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. - 2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV Last Episode: Were You Taught to Read the Bible Wrong? | How to Start Over After Religious Control – EP146 Show Links: Josh Herring - “The Uncomfortable Church” Josh Herring - “Ananias & Sapphira duplicate” Nathan Holmes - “give, God will give back” Aaron Bounds - “God will speak a number” Todd Johnson - “missions compulsion” Nathan Holmes - Copyrighted Episode Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! Pastor Twists Scripture to Defend Loud Pentecostal Prayer | Nathan Holmes - EDITED SPECIAL
2026/09/27
This is an edited repost of our original LIVE examining Nathan Holmes’ “No Quiet Prayers” message from First Pentecostal Church of North Little Rock (FPCNLR).After the original episode aired, FPCNLR filed copyright complaints against the program, including a scheduled YouTube takedown. We removed the original upload before a copyright strike was placed on our channel. That removal was not an admission of copyright infringement. We believed then, and continue to believe, that our use of sermon excerpts for criticism, commentary, and biblical analysis was fair use. This version further reduces and alters the presentation of FPCNLR’s source material. Our commentary and conclusions have not changed.Want to watch Nathan Holmes’ original sermon uninterrupted? Please watch it directly on FPCNLR’s channel:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNjcFArIjqkIn this episode, we examine the claim that there is “no time for quiet prayers,” the Scriptures used to support it, and what those passages actually say in context. Our purpose isn’t to rebroadcast sermons. Were You Taught to Read the Bible Wrong? | How to Start Over After Religious Control – EP146
2026/09/13
What happens when you still love God’s Word, but years of fear, performance, proof-texting and bad interpretation have made it difficult to open it again? In this episode, we’re talking about how to start over with Scripture, without quotas, guilt, or needing a pastor to tell you what God is saying. We’ll share practical ways to get back into the Bible, then walk through how to read it faithfully using context, exegesis, literary genre, good resources, discernment, and a whole lot less Pentecostal baggage. You don’t have to become a Bible scholar or build a perfect devotional streak. You can slow down, ask questions, test what you were taught, and keep coming back to Jesus.  I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word. - Psalm 119:15-16 ESV Last Week:  Did God Really Show You That? | How Pentecostal Preachers Twist Scripture – EP145 Show Links: Kim Haney - “not even a Kleenex” Daniel McDonald - “we could be eating already!” T’Neil Walea - “time to read your bible” Jack Cunningham - “not a suggestion” Matthew Tuttle - “KJV all the way!” Jeff Arnold - “dead jerk, nut & nincompoop” Austin Garrett - “a lifetime of dedication” Matthew Tuttle - “we preach in a suit & tie” Josh Herring - “shadow of a Goliath” Caleb Adams - “Scripture down to us” Nathaniel Urshan - “are we a cult?” Jamie Herndon | Unashamedly You Podcast - “MOG = VOG” Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! Did God Really Show You That? | How Pentecostal Preachers Twist Scripture – EP145
2026/08/30
We were taught that the Bible was the inspired, authoritative Word of God, but were we actually taught how to read and interpret it? In this episode, we examine what happens when pastors and believers bring private revelation, “rhema words,” personal experience, eisegesis, out-of-context teaching, and subjective impressions into Scripture, instead of allowing the text to speak for itself. We’ll play the preachers in their own words, open the passages they use, and ask one recurring question: Is that really how we should be reading and interpreting Scripture? And if you were taught these same habits in church, Sunday School, Bible studies, or your own devotional life, we hope this episode helps you begin testing everything by God’s Word for yourself. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. - 2 Timothy 2:15 ESV Last Week:  When Pastoral Authority Goes Too Far | Todd Nichols at The Rock Church – LIVE SPECIAL Show Links: Gentry Mangun - “Gentry-ology” Todd Nichols - “only 2 men matter” Pentecostal Herald - Oct 1959 - “The Authority of The Pulpit” Edwin Martinez - “I got a word from God” Josh Herring - “I got a revelation” Raymond Woodward - “your pastor knows more” Nathan Holmes - “your Berean ideas” Jack Leaman - “hungry for the voice of God” Raymond Woodward - “logos v. rhema” Nathan Holmes - “never preached before” Wesley Jackson - “leggings above your skirt” Taylor Fish - “Jericho Wall Fall” Cornelius Williams - “The David Dance” David K Bernard - “Forsaken Assembling“ Revival Tabernacle Offering Taker - “Malachi Robbing” Honest Youth Pastor - Sermon Review PDF Caleb Adams - “possessor of heaven & earth” Matthew Tuttle - “Romans 8 groanings = tongues” Dillon Morgan - “tried to craft a sermon” Justin Pointdexter - “I’ll cut YOUR prayers off” Chad Erickson - “the Bible + your own interpretation” Robert Tisdale - “turn off your reason” Josh Herring - “prayer life messed up” Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! When Pastoral Authority Goes Too Far | Todd Nichols at The Rock Church – LIVE SPECIAL
2026/08/23
Todd Nichols preached two messages at The Rock Church in Elk Grove, that reveal a troubling view of pastoral authority: from turning Nehemiah’s enemies into a template for modern opposition to warning believers about getting a taste of “preacher blood.” In this LIVE special, we examine Nichols’ claims that only select leaders matter when it comes to hearing from God, that his only answer when his bishop speaks is “yes, sir,” and that this isn’t “cultish” but “apostolic alignment.” We also look at his use of Romans 13’s “sword,” his dismissal of “church hurt,” the striking contradiction over who owes whom an explanation, and similar warnings about criticizing pastoral leadership previously preached at The Rock Church. Rather than simply reacting to the rhetoric, we open Scripture and ask the question at the heart of this episode: What does the New Testament actually teach about the authority, and the limits, of pastors and spiritual leaders? Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. - Acts 20:28 ESV Last Episode: Did They Really "Preach" That?! | Pentecostal Camp Meetings 2026 – LIVE SPECIAL Show Links: Todd Nichols - TRC Sunday AM - “Stay On The Wall”(Backup) Todd Nichols - TRC Tuesday - “What’s In Your Spirit”Matthew Tuttle - “church hurt denied”Mary Wilson - Birthday Celebration(Backup) Mary Wilson Clip - “I’ll sic the devil on you” Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! Did They Really "Preach" That?! | Pentecostal Camp Meetings 2026 – LIVE SPECIAL
2026/08/09
In this special LIVE edition, we had you join us as we worked through a stack of clips we collected from Oneness Pentecostal camp meetings and conferences over the summer. Some are funny, some are strange, and others raise much more serious questions about doctrine, pastoral authority, healing, the Holy Spirit, and what people are being told God requires. Rather than dismissing something just because it sounds unusual, we open Scripture and ask whether what was preached actually lines up with the Word. And as always, our goal isn’t to tell you what to think, it’s to encourage you to test everything for yourself. Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. - 2 Timothy 4:2 ESV Last Episode:Trust the Man? | What Happens When the Pastor Falls – EP144 Show Links:Honest Youth Pastor Sermon Review PDFCody Marks - “praying without a fork”Cody Marks - “you don’t have nothing”Mark Morgan - “$20 for the HG”Matthew Tuttle - “that’s a demon”Matthew Tuttle - “that’s a devil”Nathaniel Harris - “shut up, that’s the devil”Wesley Jackson - “James Wesley version”Wesley Jackson - “cadets are good”Clark Copeland - “calloused and cold”Julian Ryder - “you want to be healed? The Pastors Can’t Be Questioned | Truth or Loyalty? – EP144
2026/08/02
When churches face leadership crises, are congregants taught how to respond with biblical accountability, or simply how to stay loyal to a man. In this episode, we examine recent events surrounding one of the most influential Oneness Pentecostal churches in America and ask what the Bible says about pastoral qualifications, accountability, and discernment. Whether you're processing questions in your own church or simply want to know what God's Word says, we hope this conversation points you back to Christ, not man. For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. - Galatians 1:10 ESV Last Week:  The Tithe Trap | Who Gave Pastors a Claim on Your First 10%? – EP143 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! Robbing God? | The Tithing Doctrine the New Testament Never Gave – EP143
2026/07/26
Who gave the modern church (or the pastor!) a biblical claim on the first 10% of every Christian’s income, along with the authority to attach salvation, blessing, protection, or curses to whether it is paid? In this episode, we examine the unauthorized transfers used to build modern tithing doctrine, from turning pastors into Levites to turning the temple storehouse into a church bank account. We also respond to Oneness Pentecostal leaders who call non-tithers thieves, threaten spiritual consequences, and use fear, shame, and heaven itself to enforce payment. Most importantly, we remind believers that salvation is a gift, Christian giving is not a debt, and Jesus did not save us so we could spend the rest of our lives paying Him back. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us… - Galatians 3:13 ESV Last Week:  Mission or Mammon? | The Prosperity Gospel They Say They Don’t Preach - EP142 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! Mission or Mammon? | The Prosperity Gospel They Say They Don’t Preach – EP142
2026/07/19
Many churches strongly condemn the prosperity gospel, but are they actually teaching something any different? In this episode, we examine the growing idea of "Kingdom prosperity" and compare it with what Scripture says about God's blessings, generosity, and financial provision. We look at several popular Apostolic teachings and ask whether changing the motive from personal luxury to funding the mission actually changes the theology. Most importantly, we discover that the New Testament's greatest promises aren't found in earthly wealth, but in the riches believers already have in Christ. If our greatest blessing is Christ Himself, then no amount of earthly prosperity could ever compare. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. - Philippians 4:11 ESV Last Week:  You Don’t Have to Prove Yourself | Freedom From Pentecostal Performance – EP141 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! You Don’t Have to Prove Yourself | Freedom From Pentecostal Performance – EP141
2026/07/05
Have you ever felt like you had to perform for God? Maybe because of what religion has taught you, or how a pastor trained you. Dress holy, worship emotionally, get involved, give, be loyal to one man, repent incessantly? The list is long, but in today’s episode, we help believers to see they can be free from this thinking. God doesn’t need our performance, He wants our hearts. And He wants you to be free from high-control churches who turn the Christian’s life into a stage, for critiquing and judgement. You do not have to keep proving that you are spiritual enough, surrendered enough, or good enough to be loved and kept by God. Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. - Matthew 6:1 ESV Last Week:  The Pastor Loyalty Test | Who Are You Really Following? – EP140 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! The Pastor Loyalty Test | Following Christ or Following Men? – EP140
2026/06/28
A public controversy made headlines, but the church service that followed deserves just as much attention. We walk through the loyalty tests, pastor-centered language, twisted Scripture, and sermon on “manhood” that turned aggression into strength. Then we compare it all to Scripture and ask what biblical manhood actually looks like: self-control, gentleness, humility, and strength submitted to Christ. For anyone sitting in a high-control church, this episode is a reminder that asking biblical questions is not wrong, and Christ alone is the Shepherd who never fails. Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. - James 1:19-20 ESV Last Week:  Why Pentecostals Are Afraid To Die | The Fear Legalism Creates – EP139 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! Why Pentecostals Are Afraid to Die | The Fear Legalism Creates – EP139
2026/06/21
Why does death feel so terrifying for so many people coming out of performance-driven church systems? In this episode, we unpack how works-based theology creates anxiety, uncertainty, and a constant fear of “not doing enough.” We contrast that with the clear message of Scripture: salvation is secured by Christ, not our performance. We also walk through God’s sovereignty in life and death, and how believers can grieve deeply while still holding onto real hope. If you’ve ever feared dying because you weren’t sure you’d “make it,” this conversation will point you back to the confidence found in Jesus alone.  If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. - 1 Corinthians 15:19 ESV Last Week:  The Crazy We Called “Church” | Wild Things Pentecostal Preachers Say & Do – EP138 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! The Crazy We Called “Church” | Wild Things Pentecostal Preachers Say & Do – EP138
2026/06/07
In this episode, we are looking at another round of wild, strange, and deeply questionable things Pentecostal preachers say and do. From a prayer log being treated like a spiritual relic, to creepy “spiritual daughter” language, to money pressure, and pulpit chaos, we are asking whether these things are actually biblical or just something we were trained to call “anointed” and “Pentecostal”. We also talk about how easily mysticism, manipulation, greed, and lack of self-control can get dressed up in church language. More importantly, we want to encourage anyone who has started noticing the weirdness and wondering if they are allowed to question it. Scripture tells us to test everything, recognize fruit, and hold fast to what is good, and that includes what comes from a Pentecostal pulpit. Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. - Matthew 7:15-16 ESV Last Week:  Bigger Barns, Bigger Burdens | The Truth About Pentecostal Church Debt – EP137 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! Bigger Barns, Bigger Burdens | The Truth About Pentecostal Church Debt – EP137
2026/05/31
In this episode, we continue last week’s conversation about why modern church buildings are not the “house of God”, by looking at what happens when sacred-building theology gets tied to millions of dollars in debt. We examine how pastors frame expansion projects as vision, prophecy, revival, and obedience, while the saints are left carrying the financial burden through pressure, maxed-out credit cards, and years of giving. We also look at the way some recent debt-free announcements are celebrated as though “God did it,” while the actual people who paid the price are barely acknowledged. We are asking whether this looks like the New Testament church or like spiritualized financial abuse. Jesus is not building His church through man-made empires. His church is His people. And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. - Luke 12:18 ESV Last Week:  The “House of God”? | Why Pentecostals Treat Buildings as Sacred – EP136 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!! The “House of God”? | Why Pentecostals Treat Buildings as Sacred – EP136
2026/05/17
In Oneness Pentecostalism, the church building is often treated as far more than a place to gather. It becomes the “House of God,” the place where God supposedly moves, restores, pours out His Spirit, calls people, and meets with His people in a special way. In this episode, we look at the language, clips, and Scripture surrounding sacred church buildings, altar dependence, “don’t miss the move” fear, and the idea that some churches are special epicenters of revival. Incidentally, the New Testament tells a very different story: God does not dwell in buildings made by human hands; He dwells in His people. So today we’re asking one simple question: what if God never left you? What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest? Did not my hand make all these things?’ - Acts 7:49-50 ESV Last Week:  The “First Lady” | The Hidden Power of the Pastor’s Wife - EP135 Playlists: Full Podcast Playlist - Youtube Holiness Standards The Church Building Examining Pentecostalism The “MOG” (Man of God) All About The Money Abuse In The Pulpit Addressing NAYC Comments FEAR!!!
