Eps. 195- Paralyzed at 20: Brent Oliver’s Fight to Walk Again Against the Odds
2026/10/02
At 20 years old, Brent Oliver’s life changed in an instant. While riding a motorcycle on a mountain road, Brent struck a cable that severed his trachea and esophagus, punctured both lungs, and left him an incomplete quadriplegic. After an extraordinary rescue and hours of CPR, Brent survived—but the prognosis for his future was grim. Brent refused to accept that his wheelchair would define the rest of his life. He became obsessed with movement—first getting a toe to respond, then teaching his body to move again. After leaving the hospital, he relearned how to drive and even devised his own method for starting a chainsaw as part of the relentless physical recovery that eventually helped him regain remarkable function.  More than three decades later, Brent is still pushing boundaries. He built a successful career in the concrete industry, working on major military and aviation infrastructure projects, and today his story is being studied because of the extraordinary level of function he has maintained despite having only a portion of his spinal cord remaining. n this episode of North Idaho Experience, Brent talks about resilience, faith, pain, refusing to become a victim of circumstance, and the mindset behind his belief that “effort equals outcome.” He also shares the mission behind the 541 Foundation, which helps people with disabilities gain greater mobility, independence, and meaningful access to life and the outdoors. Brent also opens up about his current spinal cord diagnosis, why every day carries new meaning, his advocacy for disabled Americans, and why he believes there is almost always a path forward—even when everything in front of you says otherwise.  This is a conversation about far more than surviving a catastrophic accident. It’s about what happens when someone simply refuses to quit. 👤 Connect with Brent Oliver https://brentoliver541.org/ https://www.instagram.com/brentoliver541/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northidahoexperience/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/northidahoexperience Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHz9XczupyJ93VRtqfQEW-g For the most up-to-date real estate listings check out our North Idaho Experience mobile app - click above to start searching today! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/north-idaho-experience/id6755906887 Grab our Relocation Guide: https://sholink.to/Relocation Your Ultimate Selling Game Plan guide: https://sholink.to/Sellerguide 💼 Interested in sponsoring a future episode or collaborating with us? Eps. 194 -Can Water Change the World? Drink H2O on Microplastics, Clean Water & the Global Water Crisis
2026/09/29
What if something as simple as the water you buy could help change someone else’s life? In this episode of the North Idaho Experience Podcast, we sit down with DeeDee and Shane from Drink H2O, a North Idaho-based canned water company built around a much bigger mission: providing clean drinking water to families around the world. Drink H2O started with a simple question—why is so much of the water we drink still packaged in single-use plastic? That question grew into a company focused on clean water, aluminum cans, sustainability, health-conscious choices, and giving back. DeeDee and Shane share the story behind Drink H2O, why they chose simple filtered water instead of adding ingredients, and why the company partnered with charity: water to help fund clean-water wells around the world. Their goal is ambitious: every 26 pallets of Drink H2O sold helps fund a clean-water well capable of serving hundreds of families. We also get into: • Why Drink H2O chose cans instead of plastic bottles • The growing conversation around microplastics and bottled water • What reverse osmosis, charcoal filtration, and ozone treatment do • Why the company intentionally keeps its water simple • The environmental impact of single-use plastic bottles • How clean-water wells can transform entire communities • Building a purpose-driven company in North Idaho • The challenges small beverage companies face getting national distribution • Why social media followers matter to major distributors • Drink H2O’s plans for sparkling and flavored water • Entrepreneurship, faith, generosity, and putting mission ahead of profit • How local businesses can make an impact simply by changing the water they purchase The conversation also explores a powerful idea: What would happen if Americans replaced just one daily soda or plastic bottle with a product that helped fund access to clean water? Drink H2O believes solving major problems doesn’t always require waiting for governments or massive organizations—it can start with businesses, communities, and everyday purchasing decisions. If you care about clean water, microplastics, sustainability, health, entrepreneurship, small business, environmental responsibility, faith-driven business, or companies using profit for a purpose, this episode is worth hearing. Ep. 193 - Blaine Holt: Fireproof Tech, Global Chaos & the Sovereigntist vs. Globalist Fight
2026/09/25
Blaine Holt is back for a fourth round with the North Idaho Experience crew — and as always, he brings both the tech and the turbulence. First up: Zeriant (XERI), the science company Blaine's building on a "free-range scientist" model he calls Factor X, where aerospace minds cross-collaborate to solve problems outside their lane. The first product to market is the DuraEver line — a next-generation wallboard meant to replace drywall. Blaine walks us through the fire-test numbers (2,600°F on one side, 86°F on the other at 45 minutes), a 0% mold rating, water resistance, near-ballistic strength, and no toxic off-gassing. As a former firefighter's audience, we dig into why smoke inhalation is the real killer and how extra minutes can save a family. From there the conversation goes wide. Blaine shares his take — as a retired military officer turned geopolitical commentator — on election integrity and the SAVE Act, the Iran conflict, markets and the economy, China and Xi Jinping, surveillance tech like Flock cameras and Palantir, and his overarching "sovereigntist vs. globalist" framework for making sense of it all. Fair warning: these are Blaine's views, delivered unfiltered, and they'll give you plenty to chew on. Plus: the origin story behind his podcast Dangerous Intellectuals — now 50 episodes in and climbing fast on YouTube — and why he seeks out "free-range thinkers" he doesn't always agree with. 🎙️ Check out Blaine's podcast: Dangerous Intellectuals — dangerousintellectuals.com (YouTube, X, and all platforms)  🔥 Learn about the technology: Xeriant — xeriant.com (see the fire tests) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northidahoexperience/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/northidahoexperience Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHz9XczupyJ93VRtqfQEW-g For the most up-to-date real estate listings check out our North Idaho Experience mobile app - click above to start searching today! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/north-idaho-experience/id6755906887 Grab our Relocation Guide: https://sholink.to/Relocation Your Ultimate Selling Game Plan guide: https://sholink.to/Sellerguide 💼 Interested in sponsoring a future episode or collaborating with us? Ep. 192 - Birds of Prey: 40 Years Saving North Idaho's Eagles, Owls & Falcons — with Jayne of Birds of Prey Northwest
2026/09/22
Ever wonder why hundreds of bald eagles pile into Higgins Point and Wolf Lodge Bay every winter? Or how a falcon survives a 240-mph dive? This week the North Idaho Experience crew sits down with Jayne of Birds of Prey Northwest — a raptor center on 15 acres overlooking Lake Coeur d'Alene, home to about 50 birds. With a nursing degree, a master's in eagle biology, and 40 years in the field, Jayne walks us through the raptors that share our backyard: 15 species of owls, bald and golden eagles, hawks, and all five North American falcons. We get into how DDT nearly wiped out the peregrine and the bald eagle, how they clawed back from the brink, and why these birds are the "canary in the coal mine" for the health of our own water, air, and land. Along the way: how owls hunt by sound with one ear higher than the other, why females are the bigger birds, the burrowing owl that mimics a rattlesnake, foster eagle parents cued by daylight, and the sobering fact that illegal shooting is still the leading cause of eagle deaths in America. If you find an injured hawk, eagle, or owl in North Idaho, Birds of Prey Northwest can help — contact info, website, and donation link are below. 191 - From Street Cop to an 8-Figure Business | Alex Mauri on StarBat, AI & Taking the Leap
2026/09/18
What happens when you walk away from the career you thought you’d have forever—and bet everything on yourself? Alex Mauri went from the Marine Corps to law enforcement in North Idaho, eventually leaving the badge behind to pursue sales and entrepreneurship. Just a few years later, he’s helping lead StarBat, an eight-figure company built around a deceptively simple idea: make Starlink Mini truly portable, rugged, and capable of staying connected virtually anywhere. Alex joins the North Idaho Experience to talk about the wild road from proactive policing to entrepreneurship, including the moment his previous business collapsed after a YouTube policy change—and how that setback ultimately helped lead to StarBat. They dive into how StarBat went from an idea built for remote connectivity to a rapidly growing company serving outdoorsmen, businesses, first responders, government organizations, and military customers. Alex explains the challenges of manufacturing, battery regulations, international expansion, scaling inventory, raising capital, and developing new technology designed to combine Starlink with cellular networks. But Alex isn’t stopping there. He also shares the story behind Tine Hunt, his new AI-powered hunting platform designed to simplify hunting applications, draw statistics, regulations, points strategies, and outfitter connections across multiple states. The conversation goes much deeper than business. Alex talks about taking risks, leaving the security of a government career, recognizing opportunity, persistence, faith, family, the American Dream, and why some of the best businesses begin by simply noticing a problem everyone else has learned to live with. In this episode: • Going from Marine to North Idaho police officer • What proactive policing taught Alex about entrepreneurship • Leaving the security of law enforcement • Losing nearly an entire business after a YouTube policy change • The unexpected moment that led to StarBat • Building an eight-figure company in approximately two years • Making Starlink portable for remote and off-grid use • Hurricane response and the early demand for StarBat • Solving airline and battery transportation challenges • Manufacturing and supply-chain struggles • Expanding StarBat internationally • The future of portable internet and backup power • Using AI inside a rapidly growing company • Launching Tine Hunt for hunters and outfitters • Why Alex believes entrepreneurs have to take the leap before they feel ready • Faith, persistence, relationships, and the American Dream If you’re interested in entrepreneurship, hunting, technology, Starlink, small business, law enforcement, or building something from scratch, this is an episode you don’t want to miss. Ep. 190- Elk Calls That Built an Empire: How Jason Phelps Sold Phelps Game Calls to MeatEater + Idaho Hound Hunting Truth
2026/09/15
How do you turn a garage elk call into a company MeatEater wants to buy? On this episode of North Idaho Experience, Seth and Eric sit down with Jason Phelps — the civil engineer who founded Phelps Game Calls and scaled it for 7 years before the MeatEater acquisition — and Bradley, the logger who bought Idaho Whitetail Guides in 2013 and built it into a 700-square-mile elk, whitetail, bear and mountain lion operation. This isn't just a hunting story. It's a blueprint for building a hunting business in North Idaho when you have no money, no connections, and wolves that will kill your hounds. YOU'LL LEARN: 1. THE 7-YEAR GRIND: How Jason used 3D printing and engineering to build elk calls that actually work, why most hunting brands quit in year 2, and what selling to MeatEater is really like. 2. LOGGER TO OUTFITTER PLAYBOOK: How Bradley bought Idaho Whitetail Guides with his retirement savings, booked his first clients at a show in Madison, Wisconsin, and why he runs 14 hounds across Units 5, 6, and 8A. 3. WOLVES, HOUNDS & PUBLIC LAND: The unfiltered truth about bear and lion hunting with hounds in Idaho, why wolves are the #1 threat to hounds, losing access to 50-inch roads, and why hunter-led conservation is the future of wildlife management. If you're searching for elk hunting tips, bear hunting with hounds, Phelps Game Calls, how to start a guide service, or what living and hunting in North Idaho is really like — this conversation answers it. Ep. 189 - Are Data Centers Coming to North Idaho?
2026/09/11
Are data centers about to change North Idaho forever? In this episode, Seth and Eric sit down with three local experts — Luke Dupin (decentralized AI systems, Flowster), Dan Finley (Hauser council member, Kootenai Strong), and Ken Staal (process cooling engineer) — for the most honest, numbers-driven conversation you'll hear on whether AI data centers belong in Kootenai County. They get past the headlines and into what actually matters: how much energy and water a facility like Colossus really consumes, how cooling works in North Idaho's climate, who's funding the campaigns for and against these projects, and whether data centers will raise or lower your power bill and property taxes.Whether you're worried about "Keep Idaho Idaho," curious about your electric bill, or just want the real numbers behind the debate, this is the conversation to listen to before you pick a side. 🎧 New episodes every week — subscribe so you never miss one. Ep. 188- The Marijuana Conversation No One Wants to Have: Psychosis, High-Potency THC & Two Mothers’ Stories
2026/09/08
What if marijuana isn’t as harmless as many people have been led to believe? In this powerful episode of the North Idaho Experience Podcast, we sit down with Aubrey Adams and Mary Moss of Every Brain Matters, two mothers whose families have experienced devastating struggles they associate with high-potency THC, addiction, and cannabis-induced psychosis. Mary shares how her high-achieving son began using marijuana and concentrates before experiencing paranoia, delusions, hospitalization, and a years-long battle toward recovery. Aubrey shares her own family’s experience after marijuana legalization in Colorado and explains why those experiences ultimately led her into advocacy and education through Every Brain Matters. The conversation goes far beyond marijuana legalization. Drawing on the guests’ personal experiences and the hosts’ backgrounds in law enforcement, we discuss high-potency THC, dabbing, cannabis-induced psychosis, mental health, addiction, homelessness, youth drug use, fentanyl, rehabilitation, tough love, and the changing drug landscape in America. We also wrestle with the difficult questions: Where does personal freedom end and public health begin? Is today’s marijuana fundamentally different from the weed of previous generations? What happens when addiction collides with mental illness? And are families being given enough information to understand the potential risks? This isn’t a surface-level debate about whether marijuana is “good” or “bad.” It’s an emotional, challenging conversation about parents fighting for their children, people struggling to recover, and the consequences these families believe deserve greater public attention. Whether you support legalization, oppose it, or haven’t made up your mind, this episode will give you perspectives worth hearing. If someone in your family is struggling with marijuana use, psychosis, or addiction, this is an episode you’ll want to hear and share. 🔗 Learn more & find support: Every Brain Matters https://everybrainmatters.org/ https://www.safehealthytexas.org/ https://mar-anon.com/ https://www.instagram.com/everybrainmatters?igsh=bTUycGswdHBxcG04 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northidahoexperience/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/northidahoexperience Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHz9XczupyJ93VRtqfQEW-g For the most up-to-date real estate listings check out our North Idaho Experience mobile app - click above to start searching today! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/north-idaho-experience/id6755906887 Grab our Relocation Guide: https://sholink.to/Relocation Your Ultimate Selling Game Plan guide: https://sholink.to/Sellerguide 💼 Interested in sponsoring a future episode or collaborating with us? 12 Years a Navy SEAL: Hell Week, Iraq, and Life After Combat with Alex Rogers
2026/09/01
In this episode of North Idaho Experience, Seth and Eric sit down with Alex Rogers, a 12-year Navy SEAL veteran, to talk about what it actually takes to earn the Trident — and what it costs. Alex walks through his path from a small-town kid with no military background to BUD/S training, where his class broke the record for most dropouts (DORs) in Hell Week. He shares a raw account of his first deployment to Iraq, including a firefight within 18 hours of landing and a moment that changed how he sees the value of human life. He also opens up about losing teammates, the identity crisis that hits veterans after their service ends, and how jiu-jitsu, faith, and his personal "5F Framework" — Faith, Family, Fitness, Finances, Future — helped him rebuild his life as a coach. This is an unfiltered conversation about combat, mental resilience, and what it really means to transition from warrior to civilian. In this episode: • What BUD/S and Hell Week are actually like, and why so many quit • The reality of deploying to Iraq and the moment life-and-death stakes became real • How Alex rebuilt his identity through faith, jiu-jitsu, and coaching after leaving the SEALs Follow North Idaho Experience for more interviews with veterans, entrepreneurs, and North Idaho locals. 👤 Connect with Alex Rogers Coaching https://alexrogerscoaching.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northidahoexperience/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/northidahoexperience Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHz9XczupyJ93VRtqfQEW-g For the most up-to-date real estate listings check out our North Idaho Experience mobile app - click above to start searching today! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/north-idaho-experience/id6755906887 Grab our Relocation Guide: https://sholink.to/Relocation Your Ultimate Selling Game Plan guide: https://sholink.to/Sellerguide 💼 Interested in sponsoring a future episode or collaborating with us? He Built a 120,000-Pound Magnet: The North Idaho Inventor Rethinking What Magnets Can Do | Evan Trevors
2026/08/25
What if you could take an incredibly powerful permanent magnet, turn its force on and off without continuously using electricity, and use it to solve real-world problems in aviation, manufacturing, transportation, and national defense? That’s exactly what Evan Trevors, founder of Lantha Tech, is working on right here in North Idaho. In this episode of the North Idaho Experience Podcast, we sit down with Evan to explore the technology behind Lantha Tech’s high-performance switchable permanent magnets—and quickly discover that magnets are far more powerful, complex, and important to modern life than most of us realize. Evan shares how an idea that started with finding a better way to secure equipment in the back of a truck evolved into technology capable of producing extraordinary magnetic force. One of Lantha Tech’s biggest applications is a 10-foot runway sweeper generating roughly 120,000 pounds of pull force, designed to collect dangerous metal Foreign Object Debris (FOD) that can damage aircraft and multimillion-dollar jet engines. But runway safety is only the beginning. We dive into: • How Evan went from Alberta’s oil fields to developing advanced magnetic technology • How switchable permanent magnets work without continuous electrical power • Why picking up tiny pieces of metal at highway speeds is far harder than it sounds • The massive cost of Foreign Object Debris on airport runways • Why rare-earth magnets are becoming critical to U.S. manufacturing and national defense • America’s dependence on foreign rare-earth processing • The role magnets play in EVs, motors, wind turbines, electronics, aviation, and everyday technology • Why Evan believes better magnetic designs could reduce dependence on scarce materials • Maglev trains, railguns, space travel, MRI machines, motors, and the future of magnetic technology • Why unconventional thinkers sometimes solve problems traditional experts consider impossible • What it means to build advanced manufacturing and technology companies in North Idaho Evan is a self-taught innovator who approaches engineering from a simple perspective: find the problem, build something, test it, fail, learn, and keep iterating until it works. And what he and his team are building at Lantha Tech could have applications far beyond airport runways. If you love technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, aviation, manufacturing, American innovation, or discovering the fascinating companies being built in North Idaho, this is an episode you don’t want to miss. Cameron Birk: From Addiction to Ministry — Inside Absolute Ministries' 85% Recovery Success Rate
2026/08/18
What does it take to permanently break the cycle of addiction? Cameron Birk knows firsthand — and he built a ministry around the answer. In this episode of the North Idaho Experience Podcast, Seth and Dave sit down with Cameron Birk, founder of Absolute Ministries, and Layne Barndt, their Relationship Director, to go deep on what real, lasting recovery actually looks like. Cameron's story doesn't start in a boardroom or a church pew. It starts with cocaine, alcohol, and a life spiraling toward destruction in his early 20s. After multiple failed attempts at sobriety and a near-fatal low point, Cameron entered a residential program — and heard a call that changed everything. In 2009, he turned that transformation into Absolute Ministries, a long-term faith-based residential recovery program now operating across 18 facilities in Washington and Idaho. This is not a 28-day program. She also opens up about her real estate journey, including how she developed  Eats on Spokane Street, Post Falls' fastest-growing community dining hub,  and her ambitious upcoming project, Casitas Del Rio — a 21,000 square foot  mixed-use development along the Spokane River. Along the way she shares what  it is really like navigating city hall, smart codes, and small-town politics  when you have big development ambitions. Coach Mel is the author of Molested to Millionaire, and in this conversation  she discusses why she wrote the book and why she believes your circumstances  have nothing to do with your ceiling. Steve Morgan: Black Hawk Down, an RPG Strike, and Healing Veterans in North Idaho
2026/08/04
Steve Morgan flew AC-130 Spectre gunships over Somalia during the Black Hawk Down incident. He watched soldiers die below while his crew was ordered to stand down. Years later, an RPG strike over Iraq destroyed his aircraft — and ended his Air Force career. What followed nearly broke him. In this episode, Air Force combat veteran and founder of Brave Souls United, Steve Morgan, sits down with Seth and Eric for one of the most powerful conversations in North Idaho Experience history. Steve opens up about the rules of engagement that still haunt him, the isolation and alcohol that followed his service, and the bow hunting trip to North Idaho that changed his trajectory. Today, Steve runs Brave Souls United — a nonprofit built on one mission: "You are not alone." He brings veterans into the North Idaho wilderness for bow hunting, fishing, and hiking, because he believes healing is an art, not a science. In this episode: From C-5 Galaxies to AC-130 Spectre gunships — Steve's Air Force journey34 days in Somalia and the Black Hawk Down missionSurviving an RPG hit over IraqWhy military programming doesn't switch off when veterans come homeThe quote that changed everything: "Maybe we never missed the fires. Maybe we just missed having a place to stand when the world needed us."How North Idaho saved Steve Morgan's lifeBrave Souls United — what it is and how to get involvedConnect with Steve Morgan & Brave Souls United: bravesoulsunited.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northidahoexperience/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/northidahoexperience Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHz9XczupyJ93VRtqfQEW-g For the most up-to-date real estate listings check out our North Idaho Experience mobile app - click above to start searching today! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/north-idaho-experience/id6755906887 Grab our Relocation Guide: https://sholink.to/Relocation Your Ultimate Selling Game Plan guide: https://sholink.to/Sellerguide 💼 Interested in sponsoring a future episode or collaborating with us? From Marine to K9 Trainer: Free Service Dogs for Veterans & What's Wrong With Your Dog | Yoshi of Righteous K9
2026/07/21
What if 80% of your dog's behavior problems were actually YOUR fault? In this episode of the North Idaho Experience podcast, Seth and Eric sit down with Yoshi — the former Marine, ex-Tennessee State Trooper, and founder of Righteous K9 — for one of the most honest, faith-filled, and fascinating conversations we've ever had. Yoshi's story is unlike anything you've heard. Adopted from the Soviet Union at age 7, raised in Coeur d'Alene, deployed to Afghanistan, then nearly killed in a head-on collision with a semi-truck — the accident that brought him back to his faith and set him on a path to building North Idaho's premier dog training company. Today, Righteous K9 trains everything from basic obedience puppies to military-grade bomb and drug detection dogs. But what Yoshi is most passionate about? Providing free service dogs to veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD — funded entirely by his civilian client base. In this episode, you'll hear: Why 80% of dog behavioral issues come down to handler error — not the dogHow Yoshi's German Shepherd literally saved his life from a morphine overdoseWhat PTSD service dogs actually do and how they detect anxiety in their handlersThe Proverbs 12:10 verse that inspired the name "Righteous K9"Why Yoshi believes North Idaho is the perfect home for this missionHis vision to launch a non-profit giving free service dogs to those who servedWhether you're a dog owner, a veteran, someone struggling with PTSD, or just a fan of great North Idaho stories — this one will stick with you. 📍 CONNECT WITH ROYAL K9: https://righteousk9training.com/ https://www.facebook.com/share/193W1CNri6/?mibextid=wwXIfr 0:00 — Introduction: Meet the Royal K9 Founder 2:30 — How Royal K9 Started: The Origin Story 9:00 — The Biggest Mistakes Dog Owners Make 17:00 — What Professional K9 Training Actually Looks Like 25:00 — Working With Reactive & Problem Dogs 33:00 — Building a Dog Training Business in North Idaho 42:00 — The Royal K9 Philosophy & Standards 50:00 — Real Client Transformations & Success Stories 57:00 — How to Get Started + Where to Find Royal K9 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northidahoexperience/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/northidahoexperience Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHz9XczupyJ93VRtqfQEW-g For the most up-to-date real estate listings check out our North Idaho Experience mobile app - click above to start searching today! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/north-idaho-experience/id6755906887 Grab our Relocation Guide: https://sholink.to/Relocation Your Ultimate Selling Game Plan guide: https://sholink.to/Sellerguide 💼 Interested in sponsoring a future episode or collaborating with us?
