Episode 78: Compassion in the Hardest Moments From Grieving Mom to Bereavement Doula with Ryley Chestnut
2026/09/30
When a family learns their baby has a life-limiting diagnosis or experiences the loss of a child, compassionate care can make all the difference.   In this episode, Jennie sits down with Ryley Chestnut, a wife, homeschooling mom, StillBirthday-certified birth and bereavement doula, and fellow Hope Mom. After her daughter, Jaycee Grace, was diagnosed with anencephaly and died in 2016, Ryley felt God calling her to walk alongside other families facing pregnancy and infant loss. Today, she serves as the operations director for Labor of Hope while continuing to care for families through birth and bereavement support.   Together, Jennie and Ryley talk about Jaycee's story, the practical and compassionate care grieving families need, what it looks like to serve as a bereavement doula, and the many ways the body of Christ can faithfully love families in the midst of heartbreak.   Whether you are grieving yourself or want to better care for someone who is, we pray this conversation offers practical encouragement, compassionate insight, and a deeper confidence in the hope we have in Christ.   Links: Labor of Hope stillbirthday Hope Mommies Website Subscribe to our Newsletter Join our online Facebook Group Connect with us on Facebook Connect with us on Instagram Podcast Guest Submission Make a Donation Sponsor an episode of the HM Podcast in honor of a Hope Baby   The Hope Mommies Podcast is a ministry of Hope Mommies, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that exists to bring bereaved families comfort, encouragement, and relational support as they continue to walk this side of eternity without their beloved son or daughter. Episode 77: What Remains True God's Promises in the Aftermath of Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss with Kelly Ransdell and Jennie Parks
2026/09/16
One of the hardest parts of carrying on after miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss is that grief doesn't just take our babies. It often takes the future we imagined, the assumptions we held about life, and sometimes even the certainty we thought we had about how God works. In this episode, Kelly Ransdell and I have an honest conversation about the difference between expectations and promises, and why that distinction matters so much when we're grieving. Because after our babies die, it can be so easy to wonder: Did God fail me, or did He fail to do something He never actually promised to do? Together, we talk about what God never promised us, what He has promised us, and how loss often forces us to wrestle with the difference. We discuss suffering, God's presence in the valley, the way grief reshapes our faith, and how loss changes the way we read Scripture, worship, and pray. If you've ever struggled to trust God after the death of your baby, questioned His goodness, or wondered what remains true when your world falls apart, this conversation is for you. Episode 76: One Step at a Time: Grief, Running, and God's Faithfulness with Lindsey Calof
2026/09/02
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Jennie sits down with Hope Mom Lindsey Calof to hear about her son, Gabriel, who was born unexpectedly at 26 weeks and lived for 15 deeply loved days. Lindsey shares about Gabe's time in the NICU, the devastating turn that led to his death, and what it has looked like to learn to live without him over this first year. She talks honestly about needing to know God's character more deeply in the midst of grief, finding community with other believing moms, and the ways the Lord has continued to meet her through people, His Word, and even running. A longtime runner and running coach, Lindsey also shares how returning to running after Gabe's death became a place to carry her grief, honor her son, and experience God's faithfulness in a new way. Now, she's using something that has long been part of her own life to come alongside other Hope Moms as they prepare for Miles for Hope. This conversation is about loving and remembering Gabe, learning to trust God when He didn't answer prayers the way Lindsey desperately wanted Him to, and discovering that even in deep grief, He continues to provide what we need for the next step. Episode 75: Walking Families Through Goodbye Inside the Sacred Work of a Perinatal Bereavement Nurse with Amber Onyan
2026/08/19
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Jennie Parks sits down with Amber Onyan, a Labor & Delivery nurse and Perinatal Bereavement Coordinator, for a compassionate conversation about caring for families experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, and complex pregnancies. For more than 15 years, Amber has walked alongside parents during some of life's most joyful moments and some of its most heartbreaking goodbyes. Through her work, she has helped countless families navigate the overwhelming hours and days following the death of a baby, offering practical support, gentle guidance, and compassionate care during an unimaginable season of grief. Together, Jennie and Amber discuss what a perinatal bereavement nurse does, what support often looks like after a baby dies, and how caregivers help families navigate difficult decisions while they are still processing devastating news. Amber also shares insight into labor and delivery after loss, memory-making opportunities parents may not know are available, compassionate postpartum care, the impact of Everly's Law, and ways friends and family can support grieving parents during hospitalization and beyond. BONUS EPISODE: Sixteen Years Later:  Sometimes the Stories We Tell Ourselves Aren't the Whole Story with Jennie Parks
2026/08/11
In this special bonus episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Jennie Parks shares a deeply personal reflection recorded just days after remembering Paige on what would have been her sixteenth birthday. Following a recent conversation with her mom on the podcast, Jennie found herself revisiting a wound she had quietly carried for years. What began as a conversation about flowers placed at Paige's graveside became an unexpected lesson about grief, assumptions, and the gentle way God continues to heal our hearts—even many years after loss. Jennie reflects on the guilt she carried after Paige's stillbirth, the stories she unknowingly told herself about the people she loved, and the grace of discovering that someone else's actions were rooted not in hurt, but in love and grief of their own. Through this honest testimony, she reminds listeners that healing is often less about "arriving" and more about continuing to follow Christ as He patiently reveals new truths in His perfect timing. Whether your loss is recent or decades behind you, this episode offers encouragement for grieving parents navigating complicated relationships, lingering hurts, and the ongoing work of healing. It is a tender reminder that our perspective is often shaped by our pain, that God is patient with our hearts, and that sometimes the stories we tell ourselves are not the whole story. We pray this conversation encourages you to extend grace, ask one more question when possible, and trust that the Lord is faithfully at work—even sixteen years later.   Links: Hope Mommies Website Subscribe to our Newsletter Join our online Facebook Group Connect with us on Facebook Connect with us on Instagram Podcast Guest Submission Make a Donation Sponsor an episode of the HM Podcast in honor of a Hope Baby The Hope Mommies Podcast is a ministry of Hope Mommies, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that exists to bring bereaved families comfort, encouragement, and relational support as they continue to walk this side of eternity without their beloved son or daughter. Episode 74: After Paige A Conversation Between Mother and Daughter with Marie Donley and Jennie Parks
2026/08/05
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Jennie sits down with someone very special… her mom, Marie Donley, for an honest conversation about grieving Paige together after her stillbirth sixteen years ago. When a baby dies, grief ripples through an entire family. Mothers watch their daughters suffer in ways they cannot fix. Daughters grieve their babies while also carrying concern for the people they love who are grieving too. The relationship between a mother and daughter after loss can become tender, complicated, painful, and deeply beautiful all at once. Together, Jennie and Marie reflect on the day Paige died, the hospital stay, the funeral week, and the difficult months that followed. They talk candidly about the burdens they carried privately, the misunderstandings that sometimes surfaced between them, and the ways grief reshaped their relationship over time. Jennie shares how disorienting it felt to lose not only her daughter, but the future she imagined with her, and how grief left her heart searching for somewhere to place all the love that remained. Marie shares what it was like to watch her daughter walk through a suffering she could not protect her from or repair. Throughout the conversation, they discuss the tension many grieving mothers and daughters feel trying to protect one another while carrying their own sorrow, and the ways the Lord faithfully sustained their family through unimaginable loss. This is not a conversation about grieving perfectly. It's simply an honest conversation between a mother and daughter who love each other deeply and have tried to find their way through grief together. This episode is for grieving daughters, grieving mothers, and grieving grandmothers navigating the complexities of loss together, and for anyone needing the reminder that the Lord remains near to the brokenhearted and faithful in every season of grief. Episode 73: Knowing Christ More Deeply Through Suffering How suffering reshapes our discipleship and intimacy with Christ with Katie Bordelon
2026/07/22
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Jennie Parks sits down with Katie Bordelon, founder of We Are Disciples Co., for a heartfelt conversation about suffering, discipleship, and knowing Christ more deeply through loss. After the unexpected deaths of her twins, Scarlet and Jackson, at 19 weeks gestation, Katie found herself walking a road she never would have chosen. One baby was stillborn, and the other lived for nearly an hour before being welcomed into the arms of Jesus. Through that devastating loss, Katie began to discover that suffering is not an interruption to the Christian life but something God often uses to draw us closer to Himself. Together, Jennie and Katie discuss how grief reshapes our understanding of God, how suffering changes the way we read Scripture, pray, worship, and trust Christ, and the difference between knowing about Jesus and truly knowing Him. They also talk about God's presence in seasons when He feels distant, the grace available on days when opening your Bible feels impossible, and the powerful role that hearing other loss stories and connecting with other grieving parents can play in helping us find hope and feel less alone. If you are walking through grief and wondering where God is, struggling to reconcile your pain with your faith, or trying to understand how to keep following Jesus when your heart is broken, this conversation will remind you that there is no rushing through grief, and that Christ is present with you in every step of the journey.   Links: We Are Disciples Hope Mommies Website Subscribe to our Newsletter Join our online Facebook Group Connect with us on Facebook Connect with us on Instagram Podcast Guest Submission Make a Donation Sponsor an episode of the HM Podcast in honor of a Hope Baby   In Loving Memory This episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast is sponsored by the Wik Family in honor of their precious Hope Baby, Elliana. Episode 72: Mourning God: Grieving Loss, Wrestling with God, and Finding Your Way Back to Life with Tiffany Stein
2026/07/08
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Jennie sits down with Tiffany Stein for a deeply honest conversation about grief, lament, disappointment with God, and what it looks like to keep walking with Him after devastating loss. Tiffany shares the story of losing her son David and the spiritual unraveling that followed. Together, Jennie and Tiffany talk about the kind of grief that doesn't just leave you mourning your child, but also mourning the God you thought you knew. They discuss the hard questions many grieving believers carry: Can I really be honest with God? What do I do with anger, confusion, and disappointment? What happens when faith feels disoriented or stripped down to almost nothing? Drawing from her book, Mourning God, Tiffany unpacks the biblical practice of lament and the freedom believers have to bring their true thoughts and emotions before the Lord. She talks about "hitting the Wall," the invitation that waits for us there, the struggle of surrender, and the reality of what many Christians historically called the "Dark Night of the Soul." Jennie and Tiffany also spend time talking about the role of community, remembrance, and even celebration in grief, and why those things matter so deeply for hurting people. Toward the end of the conversation, Tiffany reflects on one of the most moving themes in her book: discovering that while she feared she had lost God after David died, God was actually revealing Himself more fully as "the mourning God," the God who weeps with us, stays near to the brokenhearted, and gently carries His people through suffering. This episode is tender, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in the hope of Christ. If you have ever wrestled with God in your grief, wondered whether your honest emotions were "too much," or felt like loss changed the way you understand the Lord entirely, we pray this conversation helps you feel less alone. Episode 71: More Love to Pour Out: A Redemptive Story of Loss and Meaning for Siblings with Jenny Burghardt
2026/06/24
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Jennie Parks is joined by Jenny Burghardt for a tender and deeply meaningful conversation about navigating grief within the family after the loss of a baby.   Jenny is a wife, mother, and author of More Love to Pour Out: A Redemptive Story of Loss and Meaning for Siblings. After losing her daughter Ruthie, Jenny found herself not only grieving as a mother, but also learning how to help her living child understand the sister he would never meet this side of heaven.   Together, they talk about what it looks like to hold grief and love at the same time within a home. Jenny shares about her pregnancy with Ruthie, the experience of carrying another baby while grieving, and the moment she realized the importance of telling her son about the sister he has in heaven.   They discuss why it matters for children to know and remember their siblings, and how parents can gently and truthfully explain miscarriage and infant loss in ways that are both age-appropriate and anchored in hope. Jenny offers practical guidance for families who feel unsure of what to say, as well as encouragement for parents who long to honor all of their children, both here and in heaven.   This conversation also highlights the heart behind Jenny's book, tracing the progression of love from parent to child, to the baby who died, and ultimately to the greater Love that holds it all together. This episode is for the family learning to carry grief together, for the parent searching for words, and for anyone who desires to help children understand loss through the lens of truth, love, and eternal hope.   Links: Buy More Love to Pour Out on Amazon Jenny Burghardt's Facebook Jenny Burghardt's Instagram Hope Mommies Website Subscribe to our Newsletter Join our online Facebook Group Connect with us on Facebook Connect with us on Instagram Podcast Guest Submission Make a Donation Sponsor an episode of the HM Podcast in honor of a Hope Baby   The Hope Mommies Podcast is a ministry of Hope Mommies, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that exists to bring bereaved families comfort, encouragement, and relational support as they continue to walk this side of eternity without their beloved son or daughter. Episode 70: A Father's Perspective: A Conversation About Grief, Marriage, and Hope with Brooke & Clint Schuelke
2026/06/10
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Brooke Schuelke is joined by her husband, Clint, for a deeply honest conversation about grief, marriage, and walking through the loss of their daughter, Blair, together. As Father's Day approaches, this episode creates space to acknowledge and honor Hope Dads and the often unseen ways fathers carry grief after the loss of a baby.  Together, Brooke and Clint reflect on losing Blair at 37 weeks after a healthy pregnancy and share how differently grief unfolded for each of them in the months and years that followed. They talk about the helplessness and pressure Clint felt as a husband and father, the physical and emotional weight Brooke carried as a grieving mother, and the challenges of navigating loss while remaining united in marriage.  Throughout the conversation, they discuss practical topics many couples quietly wrestle with after loss, including communication, intimacy, fear during future pregnancies, going back to work, grief triggers, feeling disconnected from one another, and learning how to give grace when husband and wife are grieving in very different ways. They also speak candidly about the tension of joy and sorrow coexisting, the guilt that can come when grief feels "easier" over time, and the importance of building a marriage on Christ when suffering comes.  Fourteen years after losing Blair, Brooke and Clint share how the Lord has continued to meet them in grief, strengthen their marriage, and use their story to encourage others. This episode is filled with biblical encouragement, practical wisdom, and hope for couples navigating the painful and complicated road of grieving a baby together.  Whether you are in the earliest days of loss or many years down the road, our prayer is that this conversation reminds you that you are not alone, your marriage is worth fighting for, and there is still hope in Christ even in the midst of deep sorrow. Episode 69: A Water Lily Among the Wildflowers: Hope and Truth for Moms after Pregnancy Loss with Rachel Dickey
2026/05/27
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Jennie sits down with Rachel Dickey for a thoughtful and deeply grounded conversation about pregnancy loss, trauma, theology, and the steady hope we have in Christ. Rachel is a former Labor and Delivery nurse, author, wife, and mom to three boys—two here and one in heaven. After losing her son Asher at eighteen weeks gestation in 2018, Rachel found herself navigating not only overwhelming grief, but also the hard theological questions that often follow the loss of a baby during pregnancy. As someone trained in birth and medicine, she understood the physical realities of pregnancy. But as a grieving mother, she longed for clear biblical truth about the life of her son and the character of God in the midst of heartbreak. That longing led her to write A Water Lily Among the Wildflowers: Hope and Truth for Moms after Pregnancy Loss, a book created to help mothers understand what Scripture says about unborn life, eternity, and the deep ache of loss that can feel invisible or minimized by the world. In this conversation, Jennie and Rachel explore the distinction between grief and trauma and why pregnancy loss often carries both. Rachel speaks candidly about what is commonly misunderstood about pregnancy loss and about difficult theological questions such as whether God values life in the womb and whether mothers will see their babies again in heaven. Rachel also shares how men and women often grieve differently and why it was important for her husband to contribute a chapter in her book specifically for fathers. With pastoral gentleness and biblical clarity, she offers words of encouragement to the mom who feels paralyzed in early grief or who finds herself questioning God's goodness in the aftermath of loss. This episode is for the mother longing for solid ground beneath her feet, for the woman wrestling with spiritual questions, and for anyone who wants to better understand how Scripture speaks to the sacredness of unborn life and the hope of eternity. Episode 68: A Heartfelt Goodbye with Kristin Hernandez Trusting God in the Next Chapter
2026/05/13
In this special episode, Jennie sits down with Kristin as she shares that she is stepping away from her role as host of the Hope Mommies Podcast. Kristin has been a steady and compassionate voice since the podcast launched in January 2024, helping shape it into a space where grieving moms are met with truth, gentleness, and the hope of Christ. In this conversation, Jennie and Kristin reflect on the beginning of the podcast and how it came to life, look back on meaningful moments, and share how the Lord has used this season to deepen their faith. They also talk through Kristin's decision, what God is leading her into next, and what the future looks like for the podcast. They also speak honestly about change, how even good, God-led transitions can feel like loss, and the deep trust it takes to follow the Lord's leading when it's hard. While this is a goodbye for now, it is also a reminder that the same God who has met us in every episode has not changed. He will continue to meet us here.  If you'd like to share a note of encouragement or say goodbye to Kristin, we would love that. Episode 67: Mother's Day After Loss: A conversation for the grieving mom whose baby is in heaven with Kelly Ransdell, Brooke Schuelke, and Jennie Parks
2026/04/29
In this episode, Jennie Parks is joined by Kelly Ransdell and Brooke Schuelke for a thoughtful conversation about navigating Mother's Day after the loss of a baby. Mother's Day can be one of the most tender days of the year for grieving mothers. While the world celebrates motherhood with flowers, brunch, and family photos, many Hope Moms are quietly carrying the ache of a child who is missing from their arms. Together, Jennie, Kelly, and Brooke talk honestly about the tension of holding grief and joy at the same time. They share how the Lord has met them in quiet moments on Mother's Day, how our identity as mothers is not erased by death, and why Scripture offers a firm foundation for the motherhood of women whose babies are in heaven. They also talk about approaching the day with honesty and grace. From giving yourself permission to rest and grieve, to making simple plans for the day ahead, this conversation offers gentle encouragement for navigating a day that can feel both meaningful and painful. For the mama approaching her first Mother's Day after loss, this episode gently reminds her of something the world often forgets: Your baby's life mattered. Your love matters. And your motherhood is real. Even when your baby lives in heaven and not in your home, the Lord sees you, knows your story, and holds every part of your motherhood in His hands. Episode 66: When God Writes a Different Story Trusting God Through Infertility, Recurrent Loss, and Unmet Expectations with Julie Fowler
2026/04/15
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Kristin sits down with Julie Fowler for a deeply honest conversation about recurrent loss, infertility, unmet expectations, and learning to trust God when life unfolds far differently than we hoped. Julie shares her journey into marriage filled with anticipation for motherhood, followed quickly by heartbreak through miscarriage, years of infertility, failed fertility treatments, and failed adoptions. As friends around her grew their families, Julie wrestled not only with grief, but with comparison, feeling left behind, and disappointment with God Himself. She speaks candidly about how she processed those emotions honestly before the Lord and how Scripture became a lifeline when prayers felt unanswered. Her story includes repeated loss, including the premature birth and death of her identical twin daughters, Annie Grace and Kate Morgan. Through seasons of profound sorrow, Julie clung to God's Word, community, and the truth of God's sovereignty and goodness, even when circumstances felt crushing and confusing. Out of her own waiting and grief, Julie sensed God's invitation not to sit out, but to walk faithfully forward. That calling led her to found and lead an infertility and miscarriage ministry that has supported women and couples for more than two decades and has impacted families across the country. Now an author, speaker, and ministry trainer, Julie helps others navigate grief and disappointment with biblical hope and compassionate truth. In this conversation, Kristin and Julie talk about disappointment with God, the ache of watching life move forward for others while feeling stuck, and what it looks like to trust God with a story He is writing, even when it bears little resemblance to the one we imagined. This episode is for anyone walking through infertility, recurrent loss, or a story that feels painfully different than expected, and for those learning to trust God again in the waiting. Episode 65: Living in Holy Saturday: Grief, Faith, and Waiting on God After Loss with Kristin Hernandez and Jennie Parks
2026/04/01
In this episode, Kristin Hernandez and Jennie Parks come together for a tender conversation about Holy Saturday, the often overlooked day between the cross and the resurrection. They explore what it means to live in the in between, where prayers feel unanswered, hope feels distant, and God seems quiet. Drawing from Scripture and their own stories of pregnancy and infant loss, Jennie and Kristin speak honestly about the tension of trusting a faithful God while carrying deep sorrow. They reflect on how Holy Saturday mirrors the experience of so many grieving mothers and how to hold onto God's promises in a story that feels unbearably broken. When our babies die, we are living in the waiting. We know what is coming, but we have not yet seen it. In that tension, faith is not the absence of grief. It is trusting God in the middle of what has not yet been made new. This episode gently reminds Hope Moms that waiting is not wasted, silence is not abandonment, and faith does not require rushing toward joy. For the mom who feels stuck in the middle of the story, this conversation offers permission to stay, to breathe, and to trust that God is still at work, even when nothing seems to be happening. Referenced in this Episode: Tim Keller Quote - "But resurrection is not just consolation – it is restoration. We get it all back – the love, the loved ones, the goods, the beauties of this life – but in new, unimaginable degrees of glory and joy and strength."  https://www.facebook.com/TimKellerNYC/posts/but-resurrection-is-not-just-consolation-it-is-restoration-we-get-it-all-back-th/1063849088430129/ Links: Hope Mommies Website Subscribe to our Newsletter Join our online Facebook Group Connect with us on Facebook Connect with us on Instagram Podcast Guest Submission Make a Donation In Loving Memory: This episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast is sponsored by the Britzman Family in honor of their precious Hope Baby, Adalia Faith.
