Work Stress: When One Bad Workday Feels Like Your Whole Career
2026/10/23
Your weekend is calm, the kettle is on, and yet a part of you is already sitting in Monday’s meeting. That quiet dread can feel disproportionate, but it has a logic: anxiety zooms in on one moment at work until it blocks out everything else. I walk through how that happens, why it feels so convincing, and how to get your perspective back without pretending the problem was “fine.”
We talk about rumination and the way repeated thoughts can start to masquerade as evidence. Then we shift into a practical tool I use with clients: an evidence bank. Not a place to vent, but a record of facts you can trust when stress makes memory selective. With the wider frame, you can ask better questions: what else is true, what happened before and after, and are you looking at a one-off incident, a real pattern, or simply not enough information yet. I also share a simple image that captures the whole point: the obstacle may still be there, but it no longer has to be the entire landscape.
Just as importantly, we name what should never be reframed away, including bullying, discrimination, unsafe working practices, and repeated behaviour that harms you or others. Perspective is not passivity. Sometimes the wider view reassures you, and sometimes it confirms you need to document, escalate, or change something. Either way, accuracy gives you more choices.
If you find this helpful, subscribe, share it with someone whose Sunday is getting hijacked by work stress anxiety, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

Experience vs Expertise at Work: Are You Actually Learning?
2026/10/19
“I’ve been doing this for twenty years.” It sounds like the end of the conversation, but we think it should be the start of a better one. We explore the uncomfortable gap between time served and learning gained, and why that gap quietly fuels work stress, anxiety, and those moments where you wonder if you’re the only one seeing what’s not working.
We talk about experience as raw material and the kind of reflection that turns raw material into expertise: noticing patterns, taking feedback you did not enjoy, adjusting your approach, and letting go of assumptions that no longer fit. We also dig into how seniority and hierarchy can blur the picture, especially when the person with the “most experience” is your manager. You can respect someone’s years without treating their judgment as untouchable, and you do not have to silence your own observations just because someone outranks you.
Then we bring AI into the mix. When artificial intelligence can produce flawless emails and polished presentations in minutes, sounding competent is cheap. What matters is what happens when reality pushes back: can someone rethink, repair, change course, and learn in public. We close with a small experiment you can run this week using one question that cuts through autopilot: what do you do differently now because of what happened last time?
If this helps, subscribe, share it with a colleague who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

What If The Real Burnout Starts At Home
2026/10/15
You can be the person who “has it together” and still be one phone buzz away from falling apart. Cheryl Parris sits down with Janice Goldman to name the reality so many people live with quietly: caring for an aging parent while trying to keep your job, your focus, and your composure. That hidden second job does not start at 5pm and end at 9am, it runs under everything, turning ordinary workdays into a constant scan for risk, updates, and emergencies.
We dig into why the well-meant phrase “Just tell me if you need anything” can actually add to the burden. When you are already overloaded, figuring out what to ask for becomes another task, another decision, another piece of emotional labour. Janice explains what supportive help looks like in practice: specific offers that reduce decision fatigue, create real relief, and give caregivers breathing room. We also talk about how caregiving begins, either through a slow build of small warning signs or through a sudden crisis like a stroke, and why early family conversations about wishes and plans can make an enormous difference.
The discussion gets honest about cumulative grief, the stress of sitting in meetings while waiting for the phone to buzz, and the emotions caregivers often hide, including anger, guilt, dread, and grief for the relationship that has changed. You’ll leave with a simple, grounding takeaway: take two minutes to write down the worries and decisions you are carrying, not to solve them all, but to make the invisible load visible. If this resonates, subscribe, share this episode with someone carrying a similar load, and leave a review so more caregivers can find us.

Work Anxiety and Resentment As A Signal Of What Matters
2026/10/14
Guilt has a sneaky way of sounding like truth. One missed school game, one late night at work, one tense call with a parent, and suddenly the story becomes: “I chose wrong.” I sit down with Janice Goldmintz to challenge that story and to look at what guilt and resentment are really trying to tell us when life feels stretched thin.
We start with resentment, including how it can show up after loss and inside everyday work stress. Janice offers a refreshing reframe: resentment often points to how much you care, not how little. From there, we zoom out to modern pressure, especially the always-on nature of technology and the social media “perfect life” performance that pushes working parents and caregivers into impossible standards. When you’re trying to be a strong professional, a present parent, and a supportive adult child to aging parents, anxiety is not a personal defect. It’s often a signal that the system around you is demanding too much.
Then we get practical. We talk about fear of missing out, the habit of using guilt as evidence, and a simple sentence swap that restores agency: “I am making this choice in this moment.” Janice also shares a tool that sticks, E + R = O, event plus reaction equals outcome, and why that tiny reaction space can change your day. We end with an honest take on “no regrets” and a healthier big-picture approach to decision-making and self-trust.
If this conversation helps, subscribe, share it with someone carrying too much, and leave a review so more people can find grounded support for work stress, anxiety, guilt, and work-life balance.

How To Balance Work Stress While Caring For An Aging Parent
2026/10/13
Caring for an aging parent can feel like a second full-time job, except you never applied for it and you can’t clock out. Cheryl Parris sits down with Janice Goldmintz to name what so many working caregivers struggle to say out loud: your mind is still “on call” when you’re at work, your attention splits in meetings, and vague support like “let me know if you need anything” can quietly add to your workload instead of easing it.
We dig into what’s really happening under the surface: decision fatigue, constant monitoring, and the pressure to look like you have it together even when you’re running on fumes. Janice shares why specific offers of help matter, what planning and preparation can change, and how caregivers can build support systems that make it easier to focus during the paid workday. We also talk about cumulative grief, why repeated losses can land like a ton of bricks, and how being “fine” for too long can crack into overwhelm.
You’ll hear a grounded take on why caregiving doesn’t follow neat theories, why every family and disease progression looks different, and why giving yourself grace is not a slogan but a survival skill. Before you go, we offer a simple practice to make the invisible load visible so it stops living only in your head. Subscribe, share this with a working caregiver, and leave a review with the one kind of support you wish more people offered.

Work Stress and Work Burnout | Read the Warning Signs
2026/10/12
Your brain can turn a few tough moments at work into one airtight story: everything is awful. We wanted to offer a calmer, more practical alternative, so we tell the story of Marcia at her kitchen table, casually noting what happens during her week and then spotting a game-changing clue, the same Tuesday meeting appearing again and again. That’s the moment work stress stops being a fog and becomes something you can study, understand, and respond to.
We walk through how to build an “evidence bank” for work anxiety that helps you separate individual experiences instead of letting them merge into one big verdict about your job, your manager, or yourself. The goal is not to document your suffering or create a museum of difficult days. The goal is reflection that earns its keep, the kind that reveals patterns, highlights exceptions, and shows what actually helps you recover, whether that’s preparation, clearer information, a boundary, a midday break away from your desk, or even a quick dose of movement to reset your body.
We also share five weekly review prompts that bring structure to the mess: what keeps repeating, what helps you recover, what you’re learning, what’s in your control vs what you can influence vs what you may need to accept for now, and one next step. Not twelve. One. We end with a reminder that reflective notes are powerful, but they are not a substitute for medical, occupational, or legal support when you need it.
If this helped you see your own workplace wellbeing differently, subscribe, share with a friend who’s carrying too much, and leave a review so more people can find the show. What pattern are you starting to notice?

Work Stress and Overthinking: What Changes in Work Anxiety When You Step Back?
2026/10/09
Your mind leaves the meeting, but somehow you don’t. Hours later you’re still hearing the comment, still seeing the expression, still replaying what you said and what you wish you’d said. We’ve been there, and it can turn ordinary workplace stress into full-on work anxiety fast.
We explore a simple idea with big impact: the problem isn’t always that we’re thinking too much, it’s that we’re thinking from one position. When you keep reliving a tense moment from the same mental seat, your interpretation can start to feel like proof. So we borrow a different viewpoint, the “office owl” perspective, to step back just enough to see more of the room: pressure, context, missing information, patterns, and choices that were invisible in the emotional blast zone.
We also talk about why distance is not denial. You don’t have to pretend the meeting was fine or excuse poor behaviour. Instead, we practice a balanced approach that combines self-compassion with responsibility, without sliding into self-blame. To make it practical, we share a quick journaling method using an evidence bank: record what happened, then revisit it later with three prompts, “An observer might notice…”, “A compassionate friend might notice…”, and “My future me might notice…”.
If you want a grounded tool for rumination, emotional regulation, and clearer next steps at work, press play. Subscribe, share with a friend who replays meetings on loop, and leave a review with the perspective shift that helped you most.

Work Stress: Dependable but increasingly depleted? This Episode Is for You
2026/10/08
Your boundaries are not broken, your nervous system is trying to protect you. Cheryl Paris sits down with Hannah Curman for an honest, practical conversation about work stress, anxiety, and the quiet ways we abandon ourselves when we want to be liked more than we want to be well.
We dig into why knowing your boundaries is not the hard part. Tolerating the feeling of holding them is. Hannah shares how getting clear on your values makes every yes and no easier to live with, then challenges us with a leadership coaching question that cuts through people-pleasing fast: would you rather be respected or likable? We talk about what respect really means, how a simple pause before you answer can prevent over commitment, and why “perfect boundaries” is the wrong goal. If you occasionally work longer hours or miss a family dinner, that does not erase your values. The real win is returning to your baseline without shame.
We also explore “manifestation” as attention training that keeps you focused on the horizon instead of stuck in the drama box of gossip, urgency, and emotional noise. From there, we connect guilt to decision-making: guilt grows when you drift through choices without naming them, but it shrinks when you own the trade-offs as active decisions.
To close, Hannah offers a powerful body-based takeaway: muscle tension and recurring pain can be a signal that something is off at work. Her story about Friday meetings and physical pain is a reminder to track patterns and listen early, before stress turns into burnout.
If you found this helpful, subscribe, share it with someone who needs steadier boundaries, and leave a review with the insight you are taking into your week.

You Might Be Coping More Than You Think: When High Performance Blurs Into Anxiety
2026/10/07
You can be the person everyone counts on and still feel like you are running on fumes. Cheryl sits down with Hannah Curman to unpack over functioning: the polished “swan on the lake” image on the surface, with frantic paddling underneath. We get honest about what it looks like in real work life: saying yes when you mean no, over-controlling details, chasing recognition, and performing well while your body stays locked in stress and anxiety.
From there, we go deeper than productivity tips. We talk about personal values and why not knowing them can leave you trapped in roles, habits, and expectations that quietly work against you. Hannah challenges the idea that money is always a value and asks the better question: what does money stand for? Security, belonging, hierarchy, freedom? Once you can name the real value, you can make clearer choices without the constant internal friction.
We also explore status, integrity, and a powerful piece of human psychology: loss aversion. When the fear of losing a title, approval, or identity feels bigger than any potential upside, high performance can turn into a stress response. Finally, we reframe “stepping back” as strength and safety, not failure, and share a lived burnout-to-recovery story that points to a healthier definition of achievement: high impact, not high hours.
Subscribe for more conversations on workplace stress, anxiety, burnout, and nervous system aware performance, and if this resonates, share it with someone who is carrying too much and leave a review.

The Work Stress Pattern Hiding in The standard that keeps moving
2026/10/06
Your mind goes blank in a meeting, you reread the same email five times, and somehow you still tell yourself you should be able to handle it. We unpack why that loss of clarity under work stress is often a predictable nervous system response, not a motivation problem. I’m Cheryl Parris, a clinical hypnotherapist and stress recovery coach, and I’m joined by Hannah Curman to map what’s happening in the body when pressure starts to feel like threat.
We talk about cortisol, the prefrontal cortex, and why the “thinking brain” can get overloaded when stress becomes chronic. Hannah explains how prolonged activation can leave you feeling overwhelmed, dizzy, fatigued, or emotionally empty, even while you look totally composed on the outside. If you’ve ever related to high functioning anxiety, this conversation puts language to that experience and replaces self-blame with biology and practical awareness.
Then we move into what you can actually do. Hannah shares her Clarity Chain approach: spot, decode, direct. We focus on simple signals you can notice in seconds, muscle tension, breathing depth, and even the speed and tone of your voice, and how those cues can reveal patterns in specific places, around certain people, or in repeating work situations. We also explore where you get your energy back, why authenticity beats perfection, and how to challenge worst-case thinking and impostor syndrome without forcing yourself to “think positive.”
If you want calmer decisions, clearer focus, and a kinder relationship with your own stress signals, listen now. Subscribe, share this with a friend who’s carrying too much, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

Emotional Intelligence at Work: When Your Manager’s Words Don’t Match Their Behaviour
2026/10/05
A message lands in your inbox and it’s flawless: calm tone, empathetic phrasing, even a nod to “safe space” and open communication. Then you get into the actual conversation and suddenly you’re measuring every word, softening your point, and walking away wondering if you were “too sensitive.” That disconnect is more common than we admit and it’s a fast track to work stress and anxiety.
I dig into a simple but powerful idea: emotionally intelligent language and emotionally intelligent behavior are not the same thing. With AI tools now able to rewrite any blunt email into something warm and considerate within seconds, we can’t treat polished communication as proof of trust, leadership, or psychological safety. The real test shows up when there’s friction: when you disagree, raise a concern, challenge a decision, or offer feedback the other person doesn’t want.
To make this practical, I share a tiny experiment you can run after one interaction, no dossier required. Write three lines: what was said, what was done, what pattern followed. It’s a shift from mind reading to observation, and it can quiet the mental noise that keeps you stuck between “the email was lovely” and “the meeting was horrible.” If you want more grounded tools for navigating workplace relationships in the age of AI-generated empathy, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

Hypnotherapy for Work Stress:Work Anxiety Alarm Has Outlived the Emergency
2026/10/05
Three words can hijack your whole morning: “Can we talk?” Before you’ve even opened the message, your stomach drops, your shoulders tighten and your mind is already six corridors ahead, trying to work out what has gone wrong.
In this episode, we explore hypnotherapy for stress through one of the most familiar patterns in workplace anxiety: the moment your internal alarm reacts before you have enough evidence to know what is actually happening.
This isn’t about forcing yourself to calm down or convincing yourself that everything is fine. Hypnotherapy for stress may help you become more aware of the automatic meanings and predictions your mind has attached to pressure, so you can begin creating more choice in how you respond.
Sometimes stress is useful information. There really is smoke. The workload may be unreasonable, somebody may be behaving badly, or something genuinely needs your attention.
But sometimes the alarm has become so sensitive that burnt toast and a house fire are receiving roughly the same response.
The aim isn’t to ignore the alarm. It is to become more curious about what set it off and whether the level of alarm matches what is actually happening now.
I share a simple 60-second exercise you can use the next time an email, Teams message, meeting request or change in tone triggers that familiar internal thud. Using two headings, Facts I Have and Story My Mind Added, you can begin separating what you know from what your mind is predicting.
That small pause may help create space for a more flexible response, so you can deal with the situation that is actually in front of you rather than every possible version of what might happen next.
Because a stress response can be completely understandable without being the only response available to you now.
Follow Work Stress Anxiety for the rest of the Hypnotherapy and Choice series and more practical conversations about work stress, anxiety and the automatic patterns that can quietly shape how you feel and perform at work.

Breathe Before You React: Relieving Work Stress Through Breathing
2026/10/01
Your workplace isn’t the only thing triggering you. Sometimes what looks like “I’m reacting to my boss” is actually an older emotional pattern waking up and running the same script again. Cheryl is joined by Deepak Chari for a grounded conversation on work stress, workplace anxiety, and the small, practical shifts that help you respond differently when “just calm down” feels impossible.
We start with the most accessible lever you have all day: your breath. Deepak explains how stress shows up as shallow or erratic breathing, then walks through a simple heart-centred breathing practice you can do in minutes, even at your desk. Whether you think of it as mindfulness, nervous system regulation, or heart chakra work, the payoff is the same: a real pause that lowers reactivity and gives you options.
From there, we dig into non-judgmental self-awareness. Noticing is information. Blame is a verdict. You’ll hear how to spot the signals (tight shoulders, slumped posture, racing breath), then “do the opposite” as a quick reset. We also talk about why tiny positive steps matter more than dramatic life overhauls, how evidence of progress builds confidence, and how a “spiral up” can replace the familiar spiral down.
If you’re a manager, new leader, or high achiever carrying pressure quietly, we also explore a mindset shift that reduces burnout: separating who you are from the role you’re performing. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a calmer workday, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway.

Why Small Comments Can Feel Like Big Threats At Work: Learning The Source Of Such Anxiety

A single message from your boss can land like a punch, even when you tell yourself it is “not a big deal”. We dig into why work stress and anxiety can spike so fast and why the reaction often feels bigger than the moment. I’m joined by Deepak, who has spent decades helping people understand triggers, subconscious patterns, and the emotional “source code” we carry from earlier experiences. The goal is not to label you as broken; it is to help you stop blaming yourself and start making sense of what your nervous system is trying to protect you from.
We talk through the mechanics of getting triggered: the body reacts first, the mind explains later. Deepak shares how similar tones, authority dynamics, or criticism can pattern-match to childhood moments of shame or humiliation, which is why “I know better” does not always change behaviour. We also explore how these subconscious imprints can repeat in relationships and careers, showing up as people pleasing, perfectionism, or self-sabotage that blocks promotions, confidence, and peace at work.
You’ll hear practical tools you can use immediately, especially slowing your breathing to create a pause your brain will follow. We also get honest about shame, guilt, and denial, including how saying “I’m fine” can clash with what your voice and body reveal. We end with a simple, compassionate question that can redirect your mind toward self-respect and new neural pathways: what do you love about yourself, and how are you actually doing right now?

How Your Subconscious Turns Work Stress Into Habit
2026/09/30
Stress doesn’t always feel like stress. Sometimes it feels like a “normal” Tuesday, a full inbox, another meeting, and the quiet sense that you’re holding your breath all day. In this conversation, we dig into what’s really happening when work stress and anxiety sit in the background for so long that you stop noticing the cost, even as your body starts waving a white flag through tension, irritability, shutdown, or sleep loss.
I’m joined by Deepak, who shares how subconscious patterns can overpower your best intentions in the moment, like when you promise yourself you’ll speak up and then freeze. We explore the link between chronic stress, the subconscious mind, and limiting beliefs such as “I’m not good enough” or “I’m not worthy,” and why those beliefs can keep high-functioning people stuck in overwork, self-doubt, and constant self-blame. You’ll also hear Deepak’s perspective on how early conditioning shapes the way we react to pressure later in life, and why two people can experience the same workplace and respond completely differently.
Most importantly, we keep it practical and gentle. We talk about awareness as a first step, how to check in with your breathing and posture without turning it into an inquisition, and one simple question that can help you trace today’s reaction back to an older pattern so you can choose a different response next time. If you want better stress management, improved workplace wellbeing, and a calmer nervous system, this is a powerful place to start.
If this helped you, subscribe, share it with a friend who’s been saying “I’m fine,” and leave a review so more people can find the show.
