Watching & Waiting ft. Matt Murley & Dan Bylsma
2026/02/17
Season 3 rolls on at the Milan Games and the pressure is officially on. On today’s episode of Morning Cuppa Hockey, Jonny Lazarus and Colby Cohen kick things off with a strong reaction to France’s Pierre Crinon being banned for the remainder of the Olympics — and what that means for discipline on the international stage. Then Murls joins the show to break down Sweden’s rocky tournament so far. With OEL and Filip Forsberg missing time, Jesper Bratt barely seeing minutes, and William Nylander’s usage raising eyebrows, how did Tre Kronor end up in the qualification round instead of already locked into the quarterfinals? Is this roster built for short-tournament hockey, and who needs to drive the offense? Plus, the goaltending debate — does Jacob Markström get the nod, or was this the moment to give Jesper Wallstedt a look? At 9:30, Dan Bylsma joins to explain the biggest adjustment NHL stars face in a short Olympic event, how coaching best-on-best differs from an 82-game grind, and whether chemistry or quick line changes win gold. Is this the most talented Team USA roster ever assembled? 🏒 #HockeyTalk #NHL Powered by @bet365. Whatever the moment, it's Never Ordinary at bet365. North America Undefeated ft. Tyler Yaremchuk
2026/02/16
Season 3 rolls on as Team USA stays PERFECT through the preliminary round at the Milan Games — but the real questions are just getting started. 🇺🇸☕ Jonny Lazarus and Colby Cohen break down Auston Matthews making his mark on the tournament, the Tkachuks making life miserable for Leon Draisaitl, and whether Clayton Keller’s spot on the third line needs a rethink. Would Jake Guentzel be better off away from Matthews? Has Jack Hughes earned a bigger role? And does Team USA HAVE to beat Canada to truly be crowned the Kings of Hockey? Tyler Yaremchuk joins the show to dive into Connor McDavid’s ridiculous 9 points in 9 periods, Sidney Crosby passing Jarome Iginla for the most points in Canadian Olympic history, Tom Wilson’s feisty impact, Macklin Celebrini’s penalty shot moment, Brad Marchand’s expected return, and the biggest concern (if any) for Canada through three games. Systems, Strategy & Setting The Tone ft. Steve Peters & Bruce Boudreau
2026/02/13
Season 3 rolls on at the Milan Games and it’s another LOADED Morning Cuppa Hockey as the guys react to a massive day on the men’s side — dominant lines, lineup changes, star power shining early, and big questions heading into the weekend. It’s thoughts on yesterday’s action as the Miller–Nelson–Hughes line looks downright dominant and sets the tone for Team USA. Macklin Celebrini scores the first goal of the tournament for Canada, announcing himself on the Olympic stage, while injury news hits the blue line with Josh Morrissey out and Travis Sanheim projected to slide in as the seventh defenseman for Game 2. What stood out most — and what needs to tighten up? Steve Peters joins the show to zoom out on the tournament trends. With Finland losing to Slovakia and Sweden pushed to the brink by Italy, is this true parity — or are traditional powers still adjusting to short-tournament hockey? Did Latvia empty the tank early against the U.S. and burn out midway through the second? With Denmark up next and Germany looming Sunday, how real is that test? Plus, how do you even begin to defend Canada’s power play? This version of Canada looks far more run-and-gun compared to the suffocating 2014 gold medal team — is that sustainable? And what did Peters see from Jordan Binnington after a strong Game 1 amid all the questions about whether he’s “the guy”? Bruce Boudreau jumps in with big-picture perspective on having NHL players back at the Olympics. As a coach, how do you handle situations like OEL logging zero minutes or Forsberg getting just one shift — isn’t it important to keep everyone engaged? How would he approach 13 forwards and 7 defensemen in a short tournament? Boudreau coached Bo Horvat in Vancouver — are you surprised he’s here after scoring in Game 1? Does slightly smaller international ice change strategy at all? How much does Quinn Hughes raise the ceiling for the United States? And after just missing Tom Wilson in Washington, would he ever have imagined Wilson riding shotgun with McDavid on the Olympic stage? Grab your coffee, jump in the comments, and subscribe for daily Milan Games coverage — your home for wall-to-wall Olympic hockey talk. 🏒 #HockeyTalk #NHL Powered by @bet365. Hellebuyck Starts & Finland Upset
2026/02/12
Season 3 rolls on at the Milan Games and it’s a LOADED Morning Cuppa Hockey as the guys break down a wild opening day on the men’s side — upsets, scares, lineup drama, and Canada getting set to drop the puck. At 9:00, it’s news from this morning as Connor Hellebuyck gets the start — to no one’s surprise — but Mike Sullivan makes it clear that “performance really matters.” Does that mean a short leash if something goes sideways? What are you looking for in Game 1 vs Latvia, and would it dent your confidence if it’s not a blowout? Plus, Tage Thompson lands on PP1 just like Jonny asked for, and after Finland loses and Sweden gets a scare, the guys remind everyone you can’t take anyone lightly in a short tournament — especially with Latvia icing six NHLers, including Zemgus Girgensons, Teddy Blueger, Uvis Balinskis, Elvis Merzlikins and Arturs Silovs. Slovakia shocks Finland. Juraj Slafkovsky continues his international heater with 9 goals in 8 Olympic games, Samuel Hlavaj turns aside 39 of 40 and sets a Slovak record, and Dalibor Dvorsky becomes the youngest Slovak to score at an Olympics featuring NHL players. Is Slovakia a legit medal threat again, or did Finland just fail to finish? Now Finland vs Sweden feels borderline must-win. Sweden survives Italy 5-2, but it was far tighter than expected. William Nylander breaks the tie despite not being 100 percent, Rasmus Dahlin posts three assists, Mika Zibanejad adds a goal and two helpers, and Sweden fires 60 shots — the most ever in an Olympics with NHL players. But Damian Clara’s 46 saves kept Italy alive before his injury. Does Sweden’s goaltending make them vulnerable? And how do OEL logging zero shifts and Forsberg getting just one even happen? Canada opens its tournament. Jon Cooper still hasn’t named a starter, the projected forward lines are stacked — Macklin-McDavid-Wilson, Hagel-MacKinnon-Reinhart, Marner-Crosby-Stone, Marchand-Horvat-Suzuki — and the blue line features Toews-Makar, Morrissey-Parayko, Harley-Doughty and Theodore. Is Bennett really the extra? And is this gold or bust for this group? Grab your coffee, jump in the comments, and subscribe for daily Milan Games coverage. 🏒 #HockeyTalk #NHL Powered by @bet365. Milan Games & Team USA ft. Ryan Whitney
2026/02/11
Kick off your morning with the messiest, loudest NHL conversations on Morning Cuppa Hockey as Colby Cohen is back in the host chair for a loaded episode that goes from Olympic memories to Beanpot chaos and a full breakdown of Team USA. Ryan Whitney joins the show off the hop to relive the 2010 Olympic Silver Medal run — from what that entire season felt like leading up to Vancouver, to where he was when he got the call that he made Team USA. Whitney reflects on being the “glue guy” in a room full of superstars, what the Olympic Village experience was really like, and how quickly the emotional intensity ramps up compared to a Stanley Cup Playoff series. He also shares his thoughts on this year’s U.S. squad, identifies an X-Factor, weighs in on whether the Beanpot still hits the same way today, and reacts to the overtime rule change. Then, the focus shifts to the current Team USA roster. The guys break down the projected lines — Guentzel-Matthews-Boldy, the Tkachuk-Eichel-Tkachuk trio, Connor-Larkin-Thompson, and the Miller-Nelson-Hughes unit — along with Trocheck and Keller as extra forwards. On the back end: Hughes/McAvoy, Slavin/Faber, Hanifin/Werenski, Sanderson, with Hellebuyck expected to start Game 1. What does being named captain mean for Auston Matthews and his legacy? Is Jack Hughes’ stock slipping after a tough Four Nations showing? Should Clayton Keller have a bigger role? And just how much deeper does the defense look with Quinn Hughes back in the mix?
