S.2 Ep.14: Blended Families...What Are You Really Fighting About?
2026/10/15
The argument starts with a child’s disrespect. But before long, you’re saying, “You never support me,” or “Why are you making me choose?” In today’s episode, I’m talking about what’s underneath the recurring arguments in blended families: the need to feel supported, the instinct to protect your child, and expectations you may never have discussed. Drawing from 17 years in my own blended family, I share why words like “your kid” matter, how biological parents and stepparents can understand their roles, and why you need a plan before emotions take over. We’ll finish with one practical challenge to help you and your spouse tackle a recurring conflict—one agreement at a time. 👉 JOIN THE FAITH INFLUENCER COMMUNITY Connect with us on social media: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jim-cunningham-746334300 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jim.cunningham.90475 TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@faithinfluencer 👉 SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/@faithinfluencer 👉 HAVE A QUESTION OR STORY TO SHARE? S.2 Ep.13: Your Spouse or Your Child? Stop Choosing Sides
2026/09/30
Your spouse or your child? If you’re a biological parent in a blended family, you may have felt forced to choose. Defend your child, and your spouse feels unsupported. Back your spouse, and your child feels pushed aside. In today’s podcast, we’re talking about how to stop choosing sides—and start protecting the family you’re building together. Having been through divorce and spent the past 17 years in my own blended family, I know how personal these disagreements can become. An argument about chores or curfew can quickly turn into something much deeper. I’m sharing a few practical ways to approach discipline, hear your spouse’s concerns without immediately getting defensive, and address problems without damaging your child’s sense of worth. We’ll also talk about one conversation you and your spouse need to have before the next disagreement happens. If you’re tired of feeling stuck in the middle, this episode is for you. S.2 Ep.12: Should Your Stepchildren Call You Mom or Dad?
2026/09/16
Should your stepchildren call you Mom or Dad? It sounds like a simple question, but in a blended family, those two words can carry a lot of emotion. Stepparents may feel that they have earned the title, biological parents may feel threatened by it, and children can become caught between two households and the people they love. In this episode, I’m sharing my honest perspective as a stepfather—including what my own stepchildren call me and why it has never defined our relationship. We’ll talk about allowing these relationships to develop naturally, keeping children out of adult insecurities, and recognizing what really shows that a meaningful bond has been built. Because in the end, what they call you may matter far less than whether they know they can call you when they need you. I also share an exciting announcement for blended families, so be sure to listen from the beginning. 🔔 DON’T FORGET TO LIKE, SUBSCRIBE & SHARE If this episode made you think of someone, share it with them. S.2 Ep.11: Five Things Your Wife Wishes You Knew
2026/08/19
After our last episode about what husbands wish their wives understood, I promised we’d turn the tables. But instead of sitting down and guessing what women want their husbands to know, I went straight to the source. I asked women one question: What do you wish your husband understood about you? Some of the answers I expected. Others surprised me. And one response came up overwhelmingly more than anything else. In this episode, we’re talking about communication, connection, marriage, the things wives carry that husbands may never see, and what women are really looking for in the men they married. Guys, this is our turn to listen. You may be surprised by what your wife wishes you understood—and by some of the things that matter to her more than you realize. Ladies, after you listen, tell me: Did we get the top five right? What would you add? 🔔 DON’T FORGET TO LIKE, SUBSCRIBE & SHARE If this episode made you think of someone, share it with them. S.2 Ep.10: Five Things Your Husband Wishes You Knew (But May Never Tell You)
2026/08/10
Over the years, through counseling couples, talking with men, and my own experience in marriage, I’ve heard a lot of the same things come up. So for this episode, I also asked men directly: What do you wish your wife understood about you? Their answers had a lot in common. We talk about why your husband really can’t read your mind (even when you think he should know), why respect means more to him than you may realize, and why he doesn’t just want to know that you love him—he wants to know that you still want him and enjoy being with him. We also get into that familiar frustration: you’re telling him about a problem, and he immediately starts trying to fix it. What if that instinct isn’t him refusing to listen, but actually one of the ways he’s trying to love and protect you? And finally, we talk about something I heard from men more than anything else: your husband wants to know that he’s still succeeding in your eyes. This episode isn’t about blaming husbands or wives. It’s about understanding each other a little better and recognizing the things we may not always know how to say. These are simple things, but they can make a big difference in a marriage. My hope is that this episode helps husbands and wives understand each other better, communicate more clearly, and maybe even start a conversation they’ve needed to have. Listen to the full episode, and let me know which one stood out to you the most. 🔔 DON’T FORGET TO LIKE, SUBSCRIBE & SHARE If this episode made you think of someone, share it with them. S.2 Ep.9: Why Your Marriage Must Come Before Your Children
2026/07/23
Why Your Marriage Must Come Before Your Children may sound harsh at first—but it's one of the most loving decisions you can make for your family. I've learned through my own blended family journey that many parents don't intentionally put their spouse second. More often, it's guilt after divorce, the desire to protect our children, or simply not realizing the small decisions we're making every day. In this episode, I share why choosing your marriage doesn't mean loving your children less. We talk about the subtle ways we undermine our spouse without meaning to, why children actually feel more secure when their parents are united, and what God's design for the family teaches us about building a home that lasts. If you've ever felt torn between your spouse and your children, especially in a blended family, I think this conversation will encourage you and maybe even change the way you see your role as a husband or wife. My prayer is that you'll leave with hope, practical wisdom, and a renewed commitment to building a marriage that blesses your entire family. 🔔 Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share this episode with anyone who needs a wake-up call. 👉 JOIN THE FAITH INFLUENCER COMMUNITY Connect with us on social media and hit that follow button: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jim-cunningham-746334300 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jim.cunningham.90475 TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@faithinfluencer 👉 SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/@faithinfluencer 👉 HAVE A QUESTION OR A STORY TO SHARE? S.2 Ep.8: The 3 Most Dangerous People to Talk to When Your Marriage Is Struggling
2026/06/17
When marriage gets difficult, most people don't make their biggest mistakes during the argument—they make them in the conversations that happen afterward. In this episode, I talk about something I've seen over and over again through years of working with couples and blended families: when you're hurting, lonely, frustrated, or feeling disconnected from your spouse, who you turn to matters more than you think. Pain has a way of making us look for comfort before wisdom. We naturally want someone who will listen, validate our feelings, and tell us we're right. But not every listening ear is helping you move toward healing. One of the most important truths I share in this episode is this: Be careful who gets access to your emotional world when your marriage is hurting. The voices you allow into your pain can either bring clarity, wisdom, and restoration—or they can quietly pull you further away from the very thing you're hoping to save. S.2 Ep.7: How to Choose the Right Spouse After Divorce
2026/05/20
How do you really know if someone is the right person to marry—especially when blending families? In this episode, I’m tackling a question I hear often: How to Choose the Right Spouse After Divorce. Too many people make life-changing decisions based on chemistry, attraction, emotional connection, or pressure—but those things alone aren’t enough to build a healthy marriage, especially in a blended family. I walk through five important markers to help you discern whether someone is truly ready for marriage: character, consistency, ownership of past mistakes, alignment in faith and values, parenting, boundaries, and whether the relationship brings peace instead of pressure. If you’re dating after divorce, considering remarriage, or trying to protect your family while hoping for love again, this conversation is for you. My heart behind this episode is simple: to help you make wise decisions and avoid becoming another blended family statistic. S.2 Ep.6: How to Rebuild Trust After Divorce (Without Ruining Your New Marriage)
2026/04/29
“You’re asking someone who didn’t hurt you to pay for pain they didn’t cause.” If that hits a little close to home, you’re not alone. In this episode, we’re talking about how to rebuild trust after divorce—and why it’s so difficult, especially in a blended family or second marriage. You can be with a good person, in a healthy relationship, and still struggle with trust… not because of what they’ve done, but because of what someone else did to you before. That’s where a lot of people get stuck. So we walk through what’s really going on beneath the surface—why past pain shows up in your current marriage, how it can slowly damage a good relationship, and what it actually looks like to start rebuilding trust the right way. We also talk about faith, what it means to guard your heart without shutting people out, and how to stop letting your past control your future. If you’re navigating a second marriage, blended family, or healing after betrayal or divorce, this conversation is for you. S.2 Ep.5: Blended Family Boundaries | Why Your Yes & No Matter More Than You Think
2026/04/08
One of the fastest ways to create chaos in your home is this…not knowing when to say yes and when to say no. I see it all the time — especially in blended families. Some parents say yes just to keep the peace…others say no to everything trying to keep control…and both end up creating problems they didn’t intend. So let me ask you this: What are you reserving your yes for? And what are you protecting with your no? Because every time you say yes, you’re endorsing something. And every time you say no, you’re protecting something. That’s leadership. In this episode, I’m walking you through how to use your yes and your no the right way — how to stay aligned as parents, and why inconsistency (not strictness) is what really breaks a home. If you’re in a blended family, lean in…because this is one of the areas that causes the most division if you don’t get it right. S.2 Ep.4: Blended Family Struggles - Feeling Like a Guest in Your Own Home
2026/03/19
Feeling like a guest in your own home in a blended family? You’re not the only one — and you’re not doing anything wrong. In this episode, we talk about why that feeling is actually normal… and what to do about it. We’ll walk through: - Why belonging can’t be forced - How connection comes before influence - The power of small, everyday moments - And why you need to stop measuring the relationship too early If you’ve ever felt like you don’t fully belong… this is for you. S.2 Ep.3: The Pressure That Breaks Blended Families
2026/02/27
The Pressure That Breaks Blended Families is often the pressure no one prepares you for. In this episode, we’ll talk about the emotional weight that comes with being part of a blended family—especially as a stepparent. The guilt, the frustration, the unspoken thoughts, and the feeling of walking on eggshells in your own home. We’ll talk about why many of these emotions feel wrong, even though they’re actually normal. From unrealistic expectations to the pressure to keep everyone happy, this conversation names what so many blended families experience but rarely say out loud. S.2 Ep.2: Blended Family Problems No One Prepared You For
2026/01/29
Blended family problems no one prepared you for—they’re real, messy, and nothing like what you imagined. In this episode, I break down the struggles that often go unspoken: why trust takes time, why step-parent authority works differently, how loyalty to a biological parent affects kids, and why rules without relationships backfire. This is for anyone who’s been surprised by how hard blended family life can be—and wants to do it differently. S2.Ep.1: Being the Father Figure God Called You to Be
2026/01/07
Have you ever wondered where you really fit as a stepdad — and how to be the father figure God called you to be? I’ve been a stepdad for 16 years, and I know how confusing and heavy this role can feel. The tension, the guarded hearts, the moments when you’re not sure if you’re helping or making things worse. In this episode, I share what I’ve learned — not from theory, but from living it. We talk about why stepkids often push back, why trying to compete only creates distance, and why what they need most isn’t perfection or authority, but presence. You may never be called “dad,” and that’s okay. What matters is that you stay, you care, and you show up — even when it’s hard. 2025/12/17
This week on the Faith Influencer Podcast, I’m sharing what may be some of the most important truth you’ll ever hear about blended families—and specifically about Blended Family Boundaries. If you’ve ever thought, “We love each other—so why is this still so hard?” this episode is for you. I break down a hard but freeing reality: love doesn’t blend a family—boundaries do. We’ll talk about why a strong marriage alone isn’t enough, where most blended families get stuck, and the blended family boundaries that bring peace, security, and growth to your home.
