Chillicothe isn’t just where Matt lives, it’s inseparable from his work. The town, the people, and the rhythms of daily life are woven deeply into his images. He has published several photo books, including Friend of Mine and Surveyor, both exploring memory, time, and human connection through his signature black-and-white imagery. Beyond photography, Matt is a husband, father, skateboarder, former sandblaster, and current woodworker, proof that creativity doesn’t live in isolation. It lives inside real life. Amy Horowitz is a New York City–based street photographer whose work transforms everyday public spaces into powerful, human stories. Any Studied at the International Center of Photography (ICP), Amy has emerged as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary street and documentary photography, with her work exhibited and awarded internationally across major photography festivals and institutions. In 2025, she released her debut photobook, A Walk in the Park?, published by Schilt Publishing, a long-form portrait project created in and around Washington Square Park in New York City. The book explores young adulthood, identity, vulnerability, and presence through quiet, deeply observed portraits made over time. On this episode of The Life of Phys Podcast, we sit down with JuanCarlos Gonzalez, a Puerto Rican photojournalist and visual storyteller based in Plymouth, Vermont. JuanCarlos’s work is rooted in authenticity, human connection, and a deep sense of place. Working across portraiture, documentary, events, and landscapes, he creates emotionally resonant imagery that bridges cultures, celebrates resilience, and honors the quiet power of everyday life. In 2025, his work received international recognition when he was named one of Leica’s 100 Photographers. Raised in the coastal town of Maunabo, Puerto Rico, JuanCarlos’s passion for photography began with newspapers and magazines—images that sparked a lifelong curiosity to explore, observe, and document the world. That early inspiration continues to shape his approach today. His photographs have been featured in Leica Fotografie International (LFI), Vogue Italia, The Boston Globe, National Geographic, and numerous cultural institutions. In 2023, JuanCarlos launched Vermont Female Farmers, a landmark portrait and documentary project featuring 45 women shaping the future of agriculture in Vermont. The project has toured nationally as a solo exhibition and was published as a companion book now held in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress. Exhibitions have included the Fleming Museum of Art, Billings Farm & Museum, Bennington Museum, the Vermont State House, and the Leica Gallery Boston, with additional solo shows continuing into 2026. Rachael Galipo is a photographer, model, and director whose work blends spirit, play, and deep human connection. Her creative journey has taken her across Chile’s rugged landscapes, into the canyons of Colombia documenting climbers forging new paths, and on 15 day road trips shooting tourism campaigns with crews she meets along the way. Her energy and enthusiasm shape every project she touches, making her a powerful presence both on and off set. Rachael moves fluidly between roles behind and in front of the camera. As a model, she has worked with brands such as Mobil 1, TNF, Visit Utah, and Pickler. As a photographer, she captures people, places, and stories with vulnerability and intention. She believes that shifting between roles in the industry gives her a deeper understanding of storytelling and keeps creativity fun. When she’s not on assignment, Rachael is outdoors or exploring passion projects. She often shoots with a large format film camera gifted by her uncle, reconnecting with the roots of the craft and the joy of slowing down. Goldstein is an NYC-based photographer whose work has been exhibited in galleries around the world. Her images have appeared in numerous photography publications, and her work resides in the permanent collection of The Museum of the City of New York. Her eye is grounded in honesty and  intuition, Caroline Goldstein is a writer, editor, and the author of The Wayside (under Caroline Wolff). She holds an MFA in Fiction from New York University, where she also taught undergraduate creative writing. Living and working in downtown Manhattan, her writing blends precision, emotion, and thoughtful narrative craft. Transience, Danielle’s debut monograph — a project where Danielle shapes the visual language and Caroline brings voice to the imagery, weaving words and photographs into a single vision.
