Paul’s Picks & Rockets Win Season Opener
2026/10/22
On today’s ep: Paul’s Picks NFL Week 7. And what can the Texans do to not fall for a trap game. The Texans may be heavily favored but what can they do to find success, not only in this game but going forward. After Paul attempts to briefly go through the picks, we talk Rockets. Your Houston Rockets win their first season opener since 2017! It’s kind of hard to believe but when you think about your emotions about the Rockets the last couple of years, is it really? The Rockets offense was sharp in this game with Kevin Durant and Jabari Smith Jr both scoring 30 points. And a rough night for Reed Sheppard and Tari Eason. All that and more on today’s pod.

Texans Outlast Jaguars In London
2026/10/19
The Houston Texans played a football game so early that I’m not sure if it’s legal, but we wearily cheered them on as they outlasted the Jags offense and overcame their own mistakes to beat Jacksonville at home in London 31-34. CJ Stroud was throwing dimes all game, but after throwing his first pick late in the 4th quarter I worried that’s all that would be said of this game. Then the Texans defense was able to hold off the Jags offense, but still gave up a field goal to tie the game. Still the Texans overcame and won with a field goal drive of their own. We take a look at a much needed win and then do a quick preview of the Houston Rockets as NBA preseason is wrapping up. And while holding a fussy baby, we even take a minute to stop by Dynamo Corner.

Texans/Jags & Paul’s Picks Week 6
2026/10/15
The Texans are headed to foggy old London-town to play a big game against their division opponent Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags have been on quite a roll this season and the Texans…haven’t. We break down what we think it will take for the Texans to win this game against the current leader of the AFC South. Injuries have been a huge sticking point this season so we look at the health of the team and speculate if the Texans have enough to win this week. Then we go into full spec-mode as we move to Paul’s Picks, where your favorite host attempts to pick this weeks winners without embarrassing himself too much. Then we pour one out for former Astros manager Joe Espada who is officially no longer with the team. Best of luck to Joe Cool.

Texans Trade For Marvin Harrison Jr & Get First Win
2026/10/12
Celebrating a win against one of the worst teams in the NFL doesn’t feel as fun as we thought it would be, but at least the Texans got a dub and the memes are not savage this week. The Texans struggles to score touchdowns in the first half of the game but finally got around to finding the end zone, but we’re calling for more touchdowns if this team is going to find a way to sneak back into playoff contention. (They have a big challenge ahead of them with a game against Jacksonville next week). To help the Texans offense, GM Nick Caserio has traded for WR Marvin Harrison Jr from the Arizona Cardinals. Optimists are excited for a Ohio State reunion for Harrison and QB CJ Stroud, but pessimists remind us that Harrison has struggled so much this season that we’re unsure what type of playmaker we are getting. Was a second round pick too high of a price for this former second rounder? We’re saying it’s too soon to grade this trade, but let us know what you think. We also talk about Astros owner Jim Crane not yet making an announcement about Joe Espada and what that can mean. And Rockets basketball is back, baby! All that and more on the pod.

Texans Need A Get Right Game & Paul’s Picks
2026/10/08
On this episode of the Paul-cast, we preview the Houston/Titans game even though we temporarily forgot where it’s being played and we’re losing our voice. (Fatherhood has really done a number on Paul.) While trying not to worry about the Texans we find some solace in the fact that HC Demeco Ryans is resuming defensive play-calling duties on Sunday. We also take a look at who we think are going to win all the game in week 5. Paul has 40 wins on the season but thinks listening to his gut is going to help…we’ll see.

Texans Lose in 4th Again! 0-4 And We Hate It
2026/10/06
The Houston Texans celebrated their 25th year…by losing a game at home to the mid Dallas Cowboys. After a great first half, the Texans defense sputtered and let up a game winning drive to the Cowboys potent offense. Is this defense the biggest problem or is it just a personnel problem due to the fact that all three starting linebackers were injured this game? We try to break down why the linebacker play was most likely the culprit this week, but the team’s inconsistent play has put everybody in the organization under the microscope. As much as it stings to look back at last week, we also have to look forward to a hopeful get-right game against the Titans. (Who are also 0-4, but the fact that we hope we can beat the Titans really tells you how this season has gone so far.) We finish up the pod by quickly looking at Rockets media day and picking a couple of fun tidbits to talk about to try to brighten it up a bit. We’ll have to see how next week goes, but remember: foosball’s the devil.

Houston Astros Season Is Done/Paul’s Picks Week 4
2026/10/01
Expectation weren’t too high going into the series, but the Astros proved our fears to be correct when they just didn’t have enough starting pitching to compete in a wild card series with the Pope-powered White Sox. We quickly recap the games, but more importantly talk about the emotional roller coaster that has been being an Astros fan this season and talk about emotions without getting too emotional! The most frustrating thing to Paul, however, might be special guest Sherlock Domes who helps play the blame game to solve the mystery of who is the blame for all these feelings. (Interesting that him blame rhymes with Jim Crane…) We also talk about hot button issue: booing. Is booing the home team effective, chat? Then we get to trying to pick the winners for the football games this weekend. How are you holding up, H-Town? Hold my hand and tell me how you feel. I hope you’re doing well wherever you are, let’s try to get through it together and start thinking about the moves this team needs to make this winter.

81-81 The Houston Astros Are The AL West Champs
2026/09/28
Your 2026 Houston Astros have avoided a losing record and claimed the AL West on the 162nd game of the season. A long roller-coaster of emotions have finally ended, just for the ride that is the playoffs to begin. In this episode we talk about Lucas Spence and the last week for your Astros. And we welcome bandwagon fans as we play “Who Are These People?!” to introduce unfamiliar faces to new fans. As we laugh and enjoy the Astros we also realize we have to talk about the Texans. The Texans have started their season at 0-3 once again and we’re nervous that a repeat of last season may be a tall order. We’re taking a hard look at the offensive game planning and the offensive coordinator. But who do you think deserves to wear the L for the Texans for Sunday’s performance? We get into all that and more on today’s episode of the Paul Brod. Pod Ball Blog.

Paul’s Picks Week 3!
2026/09/24
It’s time to submit your pickems picks and we’re here to help. We take a look back at our track record this season and forge ahead to try to pick the winners for the third week of this NFL season. The Texans go to Indy to try to pick up their first week of the season. We go over keys to winning the game and talk Stroud and Caserio. A little early for the blame game but H-Town is pacing in anger for another slow start for a team with high expectations. Will the O-line get better? We hope so. After the picks, we get to the Astros splitting the series against the Mariners and all the injuries the team has sustained in a short couple of days. Is it time to panic or is this just more of the same tightrope walk the team has been performing all season? There’s no room for error and a depleted roster, no better time for winning. The Astros need to win this series to have any kind of breathing room in the sub .500 AL West. Get that antacid ready…

Texans Struggles/Astros Swept
2026/09/21
The Houston Texans lost to the Bengals 20-6 in a confusing offensive game. CJ Stroud was able to pass for 353 yards, but no wide receiver had more than 37 yards. The running game was nonexistent, special teams was sad, and no touchdowns were to be had. The Texans starting off slow has become common but fans are getting irritated by another lack-luster offensive performance. Where are you placing most of the blame, H-Town? If that’s not enough to get you frustrated: the Astros got swept by the Atlanta Braves in their last home stand. Now the Stros are under .500, second in the AL West and pretty much out of wild card contention with only 6 games left to right the ship and sneak into the playoffs by being the most mid AL West Champ in a while. The Yordan Alvarez MVP/Triple Crown watch has also been tough this month. It isn’t statistically impossible but the Astros and Yordan both need an incredible week. So it makes sense that Yordan called a team meeting after the sweep. There’s still time for these teams…but the Astros only have one week left. Here’s hoping the dubs start piling up.

Paul’s Picks Week 2!
2026/09/17
Come on and all to witness a spectacular feat of strength as one man tries to choose all of the winners in NFL week 2 while holding a baby and chasing a dog! Move over Evil Knieval, there’s a new daredevil in town. Paul looks back at his week one picks and tries to move forward to week 2. We break down the keys to improvement for the Houston Texans as they host another offensive powerhouse in the Bengals. And then look at the Houston Astros as they frustratingly maintain a mid season…One more game against the Royals, then the Braves come to town, then one final road trip before the season is over. Is a last minute Jeremy Peña surge enough to keep this team winning? We hope so because Carlos Correa will not be returning to the Astros this season. Where will they end the season? Probably somewhere around .500 but will it be enough?

Tough Sunday in H-Town: Texans & Stros Lose Tough Ones
2026/09/14
Welcome, new subscribers! The Scapegoat Hunt has already begun in Houston, but Space Cadet is here to tell you: cálmate. The Texans offense was able to compete with the Bills offense, that’s a good sign right? Also, the defense had some struggles against a great offense so maybe we can dial back the anger in hopes that improvements on both sides of the ball can show themselves and help get those dubs. But am I being too optimistic or is the internet being too reactionary? We might not have too many hot takes but we’re trying to bring the calm takes to help you through this Monday. We then turn to the Astros to try and make sense of a great series against Philly and then a turd of a series against the Rays. I think it’s too soon to panic, but maybe get your emotions in order because it’s going to be a roller coaster for the next couple of weeks as the Astros are now 75-75, still in control of the AL West, but stressing us all out in the process! Sending love a jokes to you on this Monday to turn you from a Garfield into…I don’t know…some cat that likes Mondays, I guess.

Paul’s Picks - NFL Week 1/Astros Still Hanging On
2026/09/09
Foosball’s the devil and it’s back, so that’s probably why it’s so hot everywhere. Paul’s Picks are back, baby! And it’s time for Paul & Carla to try to pick the good teams from the bad ones and for you to chuckle at our attempts. We pick winners for all the games in week one and try to explain how the Houston Texans will beat the Bills. We promise it’s not just because we’re homers! Then we talk about a team that needs more homers, the Astros. Pitching is looking stronger recently, but the lineup has been struggling to find consistency. Lastly, we open the DMs to address some comments and concerns.

Houston Astros Handle White Sox
2026/09/04
We hope your ears are hungry because this episode is packed full of ‘tent! Your Houston Astros took three games in a four game series with the 2nd seeded White Sox and are looking to keep the momentum going! We take a look at pitching woes and the hopeful solution and list all 18 starters the Astros used this season (that’s why the episode is so long). Then we take a look at the Houston Texans 53-man roster and practice squad moves before we take a look at the team’s offensive line. This year looks to be different but doomers have been stressed. Which camp are you in? Also, CJ Stroud declines an extension and bets on himself, which makes sense seeing that he’s coming off a rough season. After that we take a look at national news: escándelo! The Clippers have been hit hard and now PT has his eyes on the Dodgers. Finally we finish with some Rockets and Dynamo roster moves. Highlight of the episode is a Baby Cat appearance where she waves at me!

Astros Bounce Back In New York
2026/08/31
Welcome new listeners and readers! (If you’re here because of my ridiculous internet jokes I do have a comedy sub too! Check it out at spacecadetpaul) Ok, shameless plug over. Your Houston Astros had one of the worst weeks of the decade—at least from a narrative standpoint—last week. But the Stros brought their offense with them to Broadway, because all of a sudden they look formidable again! I haven’t been on a see-saw since I was in elementary school, but I’m pretty sure this is what it felt like. Yordan is looking like an MVP candidate again and is looking to chase the Triple Crown this September. Jose Altuve sneakily had a great bounce back August. And I explain why the Astros still have a punchers chance of winning the AL West even though the national media is still all about the Mariners! We also talk some foosball as the NFL season is primed to kick off. The Houston Texans have set their 53-man roster and we take a brief look at the roster before we stop by Dynamo Corner. If this Astros season has given you emotional whiplash, I’m right there with you. Come commiserate and let’s try to keep our emotions in check as the team will chase the fight all the way to the last week of the season. I’m already exhausted…
