Can you forgive someone who has never acknowledged the pain they caused? And does forgiveness mean you have to let them back into your life?
Thirty-nine years after being kidnapped by her father and taken to Jordan, Lauren Burns reflects on the journey toward forgiving the man who changed her childhood forever.
In this deeply personal solo episode, Lauren shares an unexpected encounter with her father on the anniversary of her kidnapping, the questions she carried for years, and the biblical truths that helped her understand forgiveness.
Drawing from John 5, John 9, and Luke 23:34, Lauren explores the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation, the importance of healthy boundaries, and the freedom that can come from surrendering pain to God.
In this episode:
The longing for an apology that may never comeConfronting the person who caused deep hurtForgiveness without reconciliationTaking practical steps toward healingFinding strength in Jesus' exampleRemember: You can forgive someone without excusing what happened or returning to an unsafe relationship.

What happens when the very thing that makes you feel different becomes part of your purpose?
Born in Guatemala with a severe cleft lip and palate, Camey Joy faced life-threatening challenges from her first days of life. After a remarkable journey to the United States, she endured more than 23 surgeries while navigating the emotional wounds of growing up with visible scars.
In this powerful conversation, Camey joins Lauren Burns to share the story behind her memoir, Beautifully Scarred. She opens up about adoption, childhood trauma, struggles with identity, and the healing she found through her faith in Jesus.
Doctors once told her family she might never speak or sing. Today, she uses her voice to encourage others around the world.
Camey's story reminds us that our scars don't disqualify us from being used by God. Sometimes the places we've been wounded become the very places where hope begins.

Trapped in a Flash Flood With Her 7-Week-Old Baby | Elisabeth Anderson's Miraculous Rescue
2026/10/07
Send us Fan Mail
She escaped a flash flood with her 7-week-old baby strapped to her chest.
When Hurricane Helene brought devastating floodwaters into Elisabeth Anderson's neighborhood, she and her husband tried to escape with their newborn son and two dogs.
They barely made it out of the driveway.
Within moments, rushing water turned their car sideways. Elisabeth climbed through the sunroof, strapped her seven-week-old baby to her chest, and waited on top of the vehicle as the water continued rising.
For nearly two hours, she prayed for God to save them.
What Elisabeth didn't know was just how dangerous their situation had become—or what rescuers downstream were preparing for if their car didn't hold.
In this powerful episode of The Redeemed Podcast, Elisabeth shares the story of surviving the flood, the trauma and survivor's guilt that followed, her struggle with anger toward God, and how losing almost everything transformed her faith.
Lauren and Elisabeth also uncover an incredible connection between their stories: Elisabeth grew up near the family of JD Roberts, one of the men involved in Lauren's international rescue after she was kidnapped and taken to Jordan as a child.
In this conversation:
• Surviving Hurricane Helene and catastrophic flash flooding
• Escaping a vehicle with a newborn during rising floodwaters
• Prayer and faith during a life-or-death emergency
• Processing trauma and survivor's guilt
• Wrestling with anger toward God
• Finding purpose after tragedy
• Building a faith deeply rooted enough to withstand life's storms
• How trauma can affect children and families
• Elizabeth's upcoming children's book, Goodbye Little House
• The remarkable connection between Elisabeth's rescue story and Lauren's
No matter what your “storm” looks like, Elisabeth's story is a reminder that the foundation you build before the storm matters when the waters begin to rise.

What happens to your faith when you pray for a miracle—and the answer isn't what you hoped for?
Zach Rippey, host of the I Like Birds podcast and author of Me, Armani, and Jesus, joins Lauren Burns on The Redeemed Podcast to share the deeply personal story of losing his best friend, Armani, at just 28 years old.
After a life-changing encounter with Jesus, Zach began sharing his newfound faith with the people closest to him—including Armani. Soon, Armani and his fiancée, Kelly, were growing in their own faith, praying together and studying God's Word.
Then everything changed.
During a whitewater rafting trip, Armani suffered a devastating stroke. Kelly fought to keep him above water while they waited for help, and Zach joined friends, family, and his podcast community in praying desperately for a miracle.
The answer wasn't what they had hoped for.
In this honest conversation, Zach shares what happened next—and what God has taught him about grief, unanswered prayer, suffering, eternity, and trusting God when we don't understand His ways.
You'll also hear how Armani's life continued to impact others through organ donation, ultimately saving three lives, and why Zach chose to preserve his best friend's legacy in Me, Armani, and Jesus.
In this episode:
• What to do when God doesn't answer a prayer the way you hoped
• Zach's unexpected journey from stand-up comedy to following Jesus
• Why you don't have to know everything before God can use you
• Armani's growing faith before his death
• The final text Zach received from his best friend
• The whitewater rafting accident that changed everything
• Wrestling with grief, loss, and unanswered questions
• Finding God in the middle of suffering
• How Armani's organ donation saved three lives
• Turning grief into testimony and legacy
• Why your story can point someone else toward Jesus

Pregnant at 45: The True Story Behind CONCEIVABLE | Beth Caulfield Episode
2026/09/23
Send us Fan Mail
At 45, Beth Caulfield thought she knew what the next chapter of her life would look like. She was raising older children, attending seminary and pursuing what she believed God had called her to do.
Then she discovered she was pregnant.
Beth found herself asking a question many of us have asked in very different circumstances:
“I thought I knew the plan here. How does this fit into the plan?”
That unexpected chapter ultimately became the inspiration for the faith-based film CONCEIVABLE.
In this episode of The Redeemed Podcast, Lauren talks with Beth about navigating an unexpected pregnancy, conflicting advice and opinions, discerning God's voice when everyone seems to have something to say, and trusting Him when life takes a direction you never anticipated.
Beth also takes us behind the scenes of turning her personal story into a feature film—from learning screenwriting and finding the cast to persevering through four years of obstacles, sacrifice and uncertainty.
But some of the most powerful moments came after women began watching the film.
Beth shares what happened when one woman approached her after a screening and said, “I thought I was alone,” and how another woman's response showed her that God could use Conceivable to open conversations about forgiveness, healing and freedom.
Whether you're facing an unexpected circumstance, waiting on God, pursuing something He's placed on your heart, or simply wondering “How does this fit into the plan?”, this conversation is a reminder to keep seeking His voice in the middle of uncertainty.

Father Wounds, Grief & the Adoption She Never Expected | Julie Busler
2026/09/16
Send us Fan Mail
Julie lost her mother to cancer at 19 and her father to suicide at 27. For years, she survived by pushing down her emotions while trying to faithfully follow Jesus, raise a family, and serve in ministry. Eventually, the trauma she had never processed caught up with her, leading Julie to seek professional help and begin naming wounds she hadn't previously known how to describe.
Julie shares how counseling helped her understand emotional neglect, abandonment, attachment, and the ways childhood wounds had affected her relationship with God. She also explains why getting professional help does not mean we lack faith—and how Scripture, counseling, community, and honest lament can all be part of the healing journey.
We also unpack one of the practical teachings from Julie's book Hopeful Sorrow: the biblical practice of lament. Using Psalm 13, Julie walks through four simple steps:
Turn to God in faith.Tell Him honestly how you feel.Ask Him boldly for help.Choose to trust His character even before you know the outcome. Then Julie shares an extraordinary chapter of redemption she never expected. After years of identifying herself as an adult orphan and trusting God as a Father to the fatherless, a longtime friendship developed into a mother-daughter relationship—and Julie was legally adopted as an adult.
Her story is a beautiful reminder that God may still be writing chapters we haven't even thought to ask Him for.
If you've experienced father wounds, childhood trauma, grief, abandonment, emotional neglect, suicide loss, or difficulty seeing God as a loving Father, this conversation is for you.

Father Wounds: How Do You Trust God When Your Father Hurt You? | Kia Stephens
2026/09/09
Send us Fan Mail
How do you trust God as a good Father when your earthly father was absent, emotionally unavailable, abusive, or unable to give you the love you needed?
In this powerful episode of The Redeemed Podcast, Lauren Burns sits down with author and speaker Kia Stephens for an honest conversation about father wounds, forgiveness, healing, childhood wounds, and learning to trust God as our Heavenly Father.
Kia grew up in the church, but as she entered adulthood, she began wrestling with a difficult question: If God is a Father to the fatherless, what does that actually mean when you've experienced the pain of an absent father?
Kia shares the seemingly ordinary moment involving a bookshelf that uncovered years of hidden pain, how father wounds affected her relationships and need for validation, and how our relationship with our earthly father can influence the way we view God.
Lauren and Kia also talk honestly about biblical forgiveness—what forgiveness is, what it is NOT, why forgiveness and healthy boundaries can coexist, and why healing is often a journey rather than a single moment.
One of Kia's most powerful realizations:
“I failed to realize that while I was pursuing my biological father, God had been pursuing me.”
If you've struggled with father wounds, childhood wounds, unforgiveness, abandonment, or trusting God after painful experiences, this conversation is for you.
In this episode, we talk about:
• Recognizing father wounds you didn't know you carried
• How an absent father can affect identity and relationships
• Searching for validation when a father's love is missing
• How our earthly father can influence the way we see God
• Wrestling honestly with God
• Learning to trust God as a good Father
• What forgiveness is—and what it isn't
• Why forgiveness and healthy boundaries can coexist
• How God can redeem our deepest wounds
• Recognizing the ways God has been pursuing us all along

How do you forgive someone when what they did was truly wrong?
2026/08/26
Send us Fan Mail
What are you still carrying because you believe you have a right to carry it?
Anger. Resentment. Betrayal. Father wounds. An apology you never received. Years you can't get back.
In this solo episode of The Redeemed Podcast, Lauren Burns talks honestly about biblical forgiveness and what it means to surrender anger and resentment without pretending the hurt wasn't real.
While reading Jeremiah 32, Lauren was struck by an unusual act of faith: God tells Jeremiah to purchase a field while Jerusalem is under siege and the land is being overtaken by Babylon.
From a human perspective, it makes absolutely no sense.
But Jeremiah acts on something he cannot yet see: God has promised restoration on the other side of devastation.
And that raises an important question:
What if forgiveness is believing God enough to release what happened and trust Him with what comes next?
Lauren also shares from her own journey of healing while writing STOLEN: A True Story—Kidnapped, Rescued, Redeemed, including what God has continued to teach her about father wounds, anger, forgiveness and healing. The transcript makes clear that writing the book has continued to uncover layers of healing rather than simply revisiting a story that was already completely resolved.
In this episode:
Why forgiveness doesn't mean what happened was okayThe difference between forgiveness and reconciliationWhy healthy boundaries can still be necessaryWhat Jeremiah's field teaches us about trusting God's futureHow unforgiveness can affect relationships, marriage and parentingWhy healing can happen in layersHow to surrender anger when it feels justifiedWhy the devastation doesn't get the final wordOne truth to remember:
Your wound may be part of your story, but it does not get to write the ending.
Jeremiah saw devastation. God saw restoration.
Maybe today God is asking you to trust Him with what you've been carrying.
🙏 Stay through the end for a prayer for anyone struggling with forgiveness, resentment, father wounds or deep hurt.

What if the season you desperately want God to end is actually a season He is using?
Waiting for healing. Waiting for a relationship to change. Waiting for a child. Waiting for direction. Waiting for a dream God placed in your heart to finally become reality.
In this episode of The Redeemed Podcast, Lauren Burns sits down with author and Bible teacher Paige Allen to talk about what it means to trust God when His timing doesn't look anything like ours.

Sandi grew up immersed in Jewish tradition in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Jewish day school, and her parents ran Alabama’s only Jewish newspaper. But when her mother came to believe that Jesus was the Messiah, Sandi was warned to keep that belief hidden from their Jewish family and community.
For years, Sandi lived between two worlds—carrying secrecy, fear, and shame while trying to maintain the life others expected of her.
After a short-lived marriage, difficult choices, and a season that brought her to rock bottom, Sandi found herself awake at 2:00 a.m., crying out to God.
What happened next began changing everything.
Within weeks, God opened doors for a job at a Christian radio station and a place to live through a coworker. For the first time, Sandi experienced Christian community up close. She began learning about prayer, devotionals, Scripture, and what it meant not simply to know about Jesus—but to surrender her life to Him as Lord.
Eventually, Sandi faced another decision: Would she continue hiding her faith, or would she live unashamed of the gospel?
Her decision to tell the truth led to letters sent to friends and family, painful backlash, public exposure, and strained relationships. But it also led to freedom, healing, restored relationships, and a faith she no longer had to hide.
Today, Sandi teaches Scripture and encourages others to know God deeply and personally. She shares why **Song of Solomon 8:5—“Who is this coming up from the wilderness leaning on her beloved?”—**has become such a meaningful picture of her walk with God.
In this conversation, Lauren and Sandi talk about Judaism and Christianity, Messianic Jewish identity, family expectations, shame, secrecy, surrender, prayer, finding Jesus, spiritual transformation, and having the courage to live out your faith.
If you have ever wrestled with family expectations, felt afraid to openly live out your faith, or wondered whether God could meet you at rock bottom, Sandi’s story is a reminder that He can meet us in the wilderness—and teach us to lean on Him.
