A Reset Year | Northeast Offshore Fishing Report October 14th 2026
2026/10/14
The final Northeast Offshore Fishing Report of the 2026 season is here! 🎣
It's been a challenging fall offshore, but there are still opportunities for anglers willing to put in the miles. Giant bluefin tuna are showing up around New Jersey as massive schools of adult bunker draw fish close to shore, while Cape Cod continues to produce giant tuna in shorter, less predictable feeding windows. Further offshore, the canyons are seeing some yellowfin action, along with bigeye tuna and swordfish providing opportunities throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
This week, Captain Dean from Canyon Runner breaks down the latest offshore conditions, where the fish are moving, and what anglers should be looking for as the season winds down.
IN THIS WEEK'S REPORT:
New Jersey: Giant bluefin tuna finding massive schools of bunker along the coast.
Cape Cod: Giant bluefin action continues, but timing and feeding windows are critical.
The Canyons: Yellowfin, bigeye tuna, and swordfish reports from the Northeast offshore grounds.
Montauk & Long Island: Bluefin activity, striped bass, and late-season opportunities.
Mid-Atlantic: Strong swordfish and bigeye action, with mahi and other pelagic species still in the mix.
Canyon Runner Report: Captain Dean shares the latest offshore water conditions, fish movements, and areas worth watching.
Plus, we look back on a difficult offshore season, discuss potential late-fall tuna trips, and look ahead to what 2027 could bring.

The Tuna Are Still Missing… But Fall Fishing Isn’t Over | Northeast Offshore Report October 7th 2026
2026/10/07
The Northeast offshore fishery is finally getting another chance after the latest stretch of brutal weather—but the fishing hasn't exactly bounced back everywhere.
This week on the Northeast Offshore Report, Jimmy Fee and Cheech break down the latest offshore action from New England through the Mid-Atlantic, including the lack of yellowfin tuna south of Atlantis Canyon, strong swordfish action in the eastern canyons, and continued giant bluefin action from Cape Cod to Rhode Island.
We also cover the latest reports on mahi and tilefish, a new 1,116-pound New Hampshire state-record bluefin, the effects of the recent water-temperature drop, and what could happen as we move deeper into October.
Plus, we get the latest Canyon Runner report and look ahead to the potential fall bluefin fishery.
The offshore season isn't over yet. With more weather windows opening up and plenty of fall still ahead, the next few weeks could change the picture quickly.

Offshore Fleet Gears up Post Nor'easter | Northeast Offshore Report September 30th 2026
2026/09/30
In this week’s Northeast Offshore Fishing Report, the biggest story is the lack of fishing reports following the powerful nor’easter that hammered the Northeast and kept offshore boats tied to the dock. Rough seas, strong winds, and difficult conditions made getting offshore nearly impossible for much of the past week. Now, the weather is finally ironing out and improving conditions are opening the door for boats to return to the canyons and offshore tuna grounds.
As the fleet gets back on the water, anglers will be looking to pick up where they left off, targeting bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, swordfish, bigeye tuna, and other offshore species. Subscribe to On The Water for weekly Northeast fishing reports, offshore updates, and more.

Rum Front's A'Comin' | Northeast Offshore Report September 23rd 2026
2026/09/23
A major nor’easter is about to put the Northeast offshore fishery on hold—but the storm could also be exactly what the tuna grounds need.
This week on the Northeast Offshore Report, we break down the latest offshore action from New England through the Mid-Atlantic, including the growing signs of bluefin activity north of Cape Cod, strong giant bluefin action from Shinnecock to Montauk and off Point Judith, and what’s happening across the canyons.
The nor’easter is expected to shut down the offshore fishery for several days, but the prolonged northeast blow could dramatically change the water and push key offshore features into a better position. After an unusually slow September in areas like the Hudson Canyon, the big question is whether this storm finally turns things over and sets up a stronger fall tuna fishery.
We also look at:• Giant bluefin showing up close to shore• Bluefin reports north of Cape Cod• Bonito and striped bass activity in Cape Cod Bay• The latest canyon tuna, swordfish, marlin and mahi reports• Why October could be an important month for Northeast bluefin• What anglers should watch for once the storm clears
Plus, the latest Canyon Runner report on the offshore fishery and what could happen after the blow.
⚓ Batten down the hatches, watch the weather, and we’ll see what the fall fishery looks like on the other side.

500-Pound Swordfish Sets New Maine State Record | Northeast Offshore Fishing Report Sept. 2nd 2026
2026/09/02
In this week’s offshore fishing report, Anthony DeiCicchi and Matt Haeffner break down some of the incredible catches happening across the Northeast. Highlights include a new Maine state-record swordfish weighing more than 500 pounds, as well as an impressive shore-caught cubera snapper from the surf off Nantucket.
Capt. Deane Lambros of the Canyon Runner team also joins the report with an update on offshore fishing conditions from North Carolina to Maine. Recent fishing has produced mixed results, with an unproductive lunar cycle making tuna fishing more challenging while creating favorable conditions for marlin and other billfish.
The latest offshore catches include blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, and bigeye tuna, with some of the better tuna action occurring around prominent offshore points and along the 20- to 30-fathom curve.
The report also covers the latest sea surface temperature (SST) patterns, water movement, and offshore conditions throughout the Northeast. As warmer water edges continue pushing east, conditions in the Hudson Canyon area could improve, potentially setting the stage for better tuna and billfish fishing in the coming days.Watch this week’s Northeast offshore fishing report for the latest information on swordfish, tuna, marlin, billfish, and offshore fishing conditions from Cape Cod, Nantucket, the Hudson Canyon, and beyond.
