Episode 116 | The #1 Integration Tool Your Subconscious Hopes You'll Skip
2026/10/21
What if ketamine is already working for you, but you just can't see it yet? What if the reason you're not noticing your progress has nothing to do with the medicine not working, and everything to do with your subconscious mind doing exactly what it's designed to do? Y'all, your subconscious mind is really freaking good at hiding your progress from you. Here's the thing: your subconscious mind doesn't define safe as happy, healthy, or free. It defines safe as familiar. And even when the familiar is making you miserable, it's predictable. It's something you've survived before. So when you start changing, even in the tiniest ways, your subconscious mind may be busy directing your attention toward everything that hasn't changed, while quietly dismissing the evidence that something actually has. And that matters when you're using ketamine for personal growth, healing, and transformation. In today's episode of Ketamine Connections, I'm sharing one of my favorite ketamine integration tools that I teach my 1:1 clients. It's deceptively simple, completely free, and designed to help you notice the changes you're already making—and reinforce them so they actually stick. Because you're not necessarily looking for a breakthrough. You're looking for a breadcrumb. In this episode, we're talking about: Why your subconscious mind can resist change, even when that change is exactly what you've been wanting. How familiar patterns of anxiety, rumination, and self-sabotage can feel safer to your subconscious mind than unfamiliar possibilities. Why small changes aren't actually small—and how one tiny crack in an old pattern can become something much bigger. The difference between looking for what's better and noticing what's different. Why some of the most important signs of ketamine progress are things that didn't happen. The one question I teach my clients to help uncover progress they might otherwise overlook. Why celebrating your progress is an important part of reinforcing new subconscious patterns. What to do when you genuinely can't find any evidence that you're changing. The #1 ketamine integration question What can I notice that is already shifting and changing? And how can I celebrate it? That's it. I know. Almost too simple, right? But simple is not easy, especially when you're working with the 95% operating system that is your subconscious mind. The first part of this question helps you find evidence of change that you might otherwise dismiss. The second part helps you give that change emotional significance. And here's my favorite tip: look for different, not better. Maybe you didn't spiral after a difficult conversation. Maybe you said no when you normally would have said yes. Maybe you were kinder to yourself for just a few seconds longer than usual. Those count. And when you notice them? Throw yourself a subconscious parade! Because every time you recognize a new pattern and celebrate it, you're practicing becoming someone who notices their own growth. 🎁 Free Resource: The Shift Finder I created a free, one-page companion guide to help you put today's integration practice into action. The Shift Finder includes prompts to help you uncover changes you might be overlooking, plus a seven-day log to help you build a consistent practice of noticing and celebrating your progress. Episode 115 | Ketamine Isn't the Hero of Your Life. You are! (Hero's Journey & Ketamine, Pt. 4)
2026/10/14
What happens when the ketamine glow fades? Does that mean your ketamine therapy didn't work? Or is the real transformation only just beginning? Y'all, here's the thing: Ketamine isn't the hero of your life. YOU are. And that's the big takeaway as we wrap up our four-part series on the Hero's Journey and ketamine therapy. We've heard the call, found our mentors, crossed the threshold, entered the cave, and faced the dragon. And now? Now we get to come home. In Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey, this final stage is called Return with the Elixir. The hero returns to ordinary life carrying the wisdom, treasure, or transformation they discovered along the way. And in ketamine therapy, this is where things get really interesting. Because ketamine doesn't actually transform your life. You do. Ketamine is the tool. And no one has ever built a house by admiring their saw, hammer, and raw wood. You can have the most profound ketamine session imaginable. You can come out feeling enlightened, euphoric, lighter, brighter, like you've finally cracked the code. But then you wake up the next morning to the same job, the same inbox, the same group chat, and the same old patterns. So what happens to all that wisdom? That's where ketamine integration comes in. And y'all, this might be the most important part of the entire Hero's Journey. In This Episode, We're Talking About: Why ketamine isn't the hero of your healing journey — YOU are. What Return with the Elixir, the final stage of the Hero's Journey, means for ketamine therapyWhy the ketamine glow sometimes fades, and why that doesn't automatically mean the medicine failedHow ketamine's neuroplastic window creates an opportunity to build new patternsWhy chasing profound sessions, euphoria, and breakthroughs isn't the same thing as healingWhat ketamine integration actually looks like in everyday lifeHow tiny, one-degree changes can add up to a completely different futureWhy your healing doesn't just transform your life — it can ripple out into your relationships, family, and communityWhat If the Ketamine Glow Fades? This is something I hear from ketamine clients and podcast listeners all the time. You have an incredible session. You feel like a brand-new person. And then two weeks later, two months later, or maybe even a year later, you're right back in the same old loops. What happened? Where did the magic go? Did the ketamine even work? Here's what I want you to understand. Ketamine can temporarily increase neuroplasticity, creating an opportunity for your brain to develop new pathways. But that window doesn't stay open forever. And those old patterns you've been practicing for decades? They're familiar. They're well-worn. And especially when life gets stressful, your brain is likely to return to the path of least resistance. That's why it's so important to work with that window of opportunity. If you're chasing the glow and the euphoria, y'all, you're chasing a high, not healing. The question isn't just what happened during your ketamine session. It's what you did afterward, while things were still flexible. Ketamine Integration: Bringing the Elixir Home Integration is a big word for something that can look pretty freaking ordinary. It's taking what you discovered during your ketamine journey and actually living it, over and over again, until it's no longer just an insight. It's who you are. It's your new default. Maybe it's taking a breath before responding to a text that would normally trigger you. Maybe it's finally giving yourself permission to rest. Maybe it's returning to a hobby you forgot you loved, creating more space for play, or showing up a little differently in your relationships. None of those things necessarily make for a spectacular psychedelic story. But those tiny, consistent, one-degree changes? That's how you build a completely different life. The goal isn't to keep chasing the experience. It's to take what you found in the cave and bring it home. To live the healing instead of scrambling to hold on to it. Your Healing Was Never Just About You Here's my favorite part of this final stage of the Hero's Journey. In the old stories, the hero doesn't bring the elixir home just for themselves. The hero brings it home to heal the village. And your healing gets to do that too. When you become a little calmer, a little kinder to yourself, a little more YOU, your partner feels it. Your kids feel it. Your friends feel it. Heck, even the person at the grocery store might 🔗 Resources & References 🎧 The Hero's Journey & Ketamine — Complete 4-Part Series Episode 112: On the Fence About Ketamine? Episode 114 | Ego Death & Ketamine: What Actually Dies? (Hero’s Journey, Pt. 3)
2026/10/07
What if the most terrifying part of your healing journey isn’t the end of you—but the end of a version of you that has been working overtime for years trying to keep you safe? Welcome to the cave, y’all. We are officially in Part 3 of our four-part series on The Hero’s Journey & Ketamine Therapy, and this week we’re entering the darkest—and maybe most important—part of the journey: the ordeal, the dragon, and the death before the rebirth. Because in almost every Hero’s Journey, there is a death. But here’s the thing: what dies in the cave is not you. It may be an old story. An identity you’ve outgrown. A belief that you’re too much, not enough, or that “this is just who I am.” It may be a role you’ve been playing for so long that you’ve forgotten who you are underneath it. In the psychedelic world, we often call this ego death or ego dissolution. And while that can sound terrifying, ketamine gives us an opportunity to see ourselves from somewhere bigger—to temporarily step outside of the version of ourselves that has been running the show. We’re also talking about the dragon waiting inside the cave. Because the parts of ourselves we call self-sabotage, resistance, blocks, or even monsters are very often something else entirely: Protectors. They learned how to keep you safe. And instead of walking into the cave with a sword asking, “How do I defeat this?” what happens when you get curious enough to ask: What are you protecting? And what do you need from me so you can finally stand down? Because sometimes, when you approach the dragon with curiosity instead of a sword, the dragon stops being a dragon. And the part of you that seemed to be blocking the way may be the exact part that knows where the treasure is buried. 🐉 IN THIS EPISODE: What the “belly of the whale” means in Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s JourneyWhy liminal space can feel terrifying—and why it isn’t necessarily a sign that something has gone wrongHow subconscious protection can look like self-sabotageWhy your “dragon” may actually be one of your most loyal protectorsWhat ego death and ego dissolution can mean during a ketamine experienceWhy the version of you entering the cave may not be the version that walks back outWhy a dramatic ketamine session is not automatically a transformational sessionWhy chasing profound psychedelic experiences can become another form of chasing a highWhat gentle ketamine sessions can teach youWhy healing happens in layers—and you do not have to force your way through themWhat the “reward” looks like after the ordealWhy the treasure you find inside the cave still has to be brought back into your real life through psychedelic integration🧠 KETAMINE RESOURCES Ketamine Preparation Protocol (KPP) If you’re realizing you want to walk into the cave prepared instead of hopeful and white-knuckling your way through it, this is exactly what the Ketamine Preparation Protocol is built for. You May Already Be on the Journey (Hero’s Journey & Ketamine, Pt. 1) Start here with the call and the refusal—and why your ketamine transformation may begin long before you ever book a session or sit in the chair. Episode 113 — Crossing the Threshold: Ketamine, Your Subconscious & the Mentors Who Show Up (Hero’s Journey & Ketamine, Pt. 2) Meet the mentors who appear along the way, explore the threshold between the conscious and subconscious mind, and learn why crossing the threshold is not the same thing as knowing what to do once you get to the other side. 📚 REFERENCES + EPISODES MENTIONED Episode 71 — The Liminal Space of Healing: How to Trust the Process When Everything Feels Uncertain with Kevin Cannella A deeper conversation about what happens when the known world has disappeared but the new one hasn’t quite arrived yet—and how to find trust when you’re somewhere in between. Episode 102 — Why Your “Disappointing” Ketamine Session Might Be Your Most Important You get the trip you need—not necessarily the one you want. This episode goes deeper into expectations, trust, control, and why a quiet ketamine experience doesn’t mean the medicine “didn’t work.” Episode 103 — The One Thing That Causes a Bad Ketamine Trip If the idea of ego death, losing control, or encountering something difficult during ketamine scares you, start here. We talk about the difference between a difficult experience and a “bad trip”—and why what you encounter may matter less than how you meet it. Episode 60 — Ketamine Therapy Secrets Part 1: My Experience + Dr. Austin Harris on Why Integration Matters The first half of my conversation with Dr. Austin Harris of NeuroRelief—and the beginning of the story I reference in today’s episode. We get into my high-dose IV ketamine experience, ego dissolution, what ketamine can show us about the stories running underneath our conscious awareness, and why the experience itself is only part of the equation. Episode 61 — Ketamine Therapy Secrets Part 2: Dr. Austin Harris on Protocols, Dosing, and Lasting Results Part 2 goes even deeper into the experience I talk about in this episode: crossing beyond my familiar ego story and experiencing a reality where that old programming simply wasn’t online. We talk about sustained ego dissolution, the conscious vs. subconscious mind, coming back from a high-dose IV ketamine experience, and the integration required to turn a psychedelic experience into actual change. 🔥 NEXT WEEK: THE RETURN Finding the treasure is not the end of the Hero’s Journey. You still have to bring it home. Next week, we’re closing out this four-part series with the return—because your ketamine journey does not end when you open your eyes. You have to walk back out of the cave, bring what you found with you, and integrate it into your actual life so you can live that new reality on any given Tuesday. And y’all, integration is everything in psychedelic healing. Follow Ketamine Connections wherever you listen so you don’t miss Part 4.
Episode 113 | Crossing the Threshold: Ketamine, Your Subconscious & the Mentors Who Show Up (Hero's Journey & Ketamine, Pt. 2)
2026/09/30
What happens after you finally stop resisting the call and say yes to change? You cross the threshold. In Part 2 of our four-part series exploring ketamine therapy through the Hero’s Journey, we’re leaving the known world behind and stepping into the unknown—the territory of mentors, allies, guardians, the subconscious mind, and everything that might be waiting for you on the other side. Because here’s the thing: crossing the threshold is not the same thing as knowing what to do once you get there. And y’all, we were never meant to do this work alone. In this episode, we explore the stage of the Hero’s Journey where the mentor appears—and why mentors don’t necessarily look like Dumbledore, Hagrid, Mr. Miyagi, or a fairy godmother. Sometimes they’re a therapist, coach, clinician, friend, book, podcast episode, or conversation that shows up at exactly the right time. We also get into one of my favorite metaphors for understanding ketamine therapy: crossing the veil between your conscious and subconscious mind. Your subconscious has a guardian. Its job is to protect the beliefs, patterns, and identity that have kept you safe—even when those same patterns are no longer taking you where you want to go. Ketamine can temporarily help that guardian step aside. For a window of time, you get access to territory that is usually harder to reach. And that is a freaking gift. But ketamine opening the door is not the same thing as doing the healing for you. In this episode, we explore: What happens after the Call and Refusal stages of the Hero’s JourneyWhy mentors tend to appear when you finally stop refusing the callWhat a “mentor” can actually look like in real life and in ketamine therapyWhy you don’t have to worry about missing your one magical mentorThe “guardian of the mind” and why your subconscious resists ideas that conflict with what you already believeHow hypnosis and ketamine can help you access subconscious patternsWhy I think of ketamine as a threshold between the conscious and subconsciousWhat you might encounter on the other side of that thresholdWhy the scary “monsters” you meet may actually be some of your most loyal protectorsWhy healing happens in layers—and why you do not have to climb the entire mountain at onceThe difference between ketamine opening the door and actually knowing how to navigate what’s on the other sideAnd we end this episode standing right at the mouth of the cave. Because next week? We go in. Part 3 is the ordeal. The dragon. The death before the rebirth. The climax of the Hero’s Journey. 🧠 KETAMINE RESOURCES Ketamine Preparation Protocol (KPP) If you’re preparing for ketamine and want to cross the threshold with purpose instead of haphazard hope, KPP is the framework I use to help you prepare your nervous system and subconscious mind, create an intention that actually speaks the language of your subconscious, and develop the tools to navigate your ketamine experience. 👉 https://www.annakrishtal.com/kpp Ketamine Starter Portal (FREE) Not ready for the full framework yet? Episode 112 | On the Fence About Ketamine? You May Already Be on the Journey (Hero's Journey & Ketamine, Pt. 1)
2026/09/23
What if being “on the fence” about ketamine isn’t indecision at all—but the beginning of your transformation? Happy Equinox, y’all. 🍂 Today we’re kicking off a very special four-part series on ketamine therapy and the Hero’s Journey, using Joseph Campbell’s map of transformation to explore what actually happens when you decide you’re ready for change. And we’re starting before the ketamine session ever happens. Because ketamine is not your Hero’s Journey. Your life is. Ketamine can be one of the thresholds you cross along the way—and a powerful one—but your journey begins much earlier. It begins the moment you admit that the way you’ve been operating cannot take you where you want to go. Maybe nothing is technically wrong with your life. Maybe, from the outside, things actually look pretty damn good. And yet there’s that little voice: Is this it? Why am I still stuck in the same patterns? Who am I to want more? In the Hero’s Journey, that voice has a name: the call to adventure. And almost immediately after the call comes the refusal of the call—the part of you that would really rather stay with what is familiar. Because your conscious mind may want change while your subconscious mind is going, absolutely not. The familiar feels safe to your subconscious mind—even when the familiar is misery. In this episode, we’re talking about why resistance does not necessarily mean you’re moving in the wrong direction, why wanting more does not make you ungrateful, and why phrases like “too big for your britches,” “tall poppy syndrome,” and “flying too close to the sun” reveal just how deeply we’ve normalized shaming ourselves for wanting to grow. You can be grateful for your life and still want more. And if you’re considering ketamine therapy, learning to acknowledge what you actually want may be one of the most important things you do before you ever cross that threshold. In this episode, we explore: The Hero’s Journey as a map for ketamine therapy and personal transformationJoseph Campbell’s “ordinary world” and the call to adventureWhy the call to change rarely feels brave, exciting, or heroicWhat being “on the fence” about ketamine might actually meanWhy your subconscious mind prefers familiar pain over an unknown futureThe “refusal of the call” and the subtle ways it shows up as shame, fear, and resistanceWhy gratitude and desire are not oppositesWhat “tall poppy syndrome,” “too big for your britches,” and “flying too close to the sun” have to do with healingWhy ketamine isn’t the Hero’s Journey—your life isHow to begin identifying what you actually want before your first ketamine sessionWhy a subconscious-focused intention can matter when preparing for ketamine therapy🍂 The Hero’s Journey + Ketamine Therapy Series This is Part 1 of a four-part Ketamine Connections series exploring ketamine through the Hero’s Journey. Part 1: The Call to Change — recognizing that the life and patterns that got you here may not be able to take you where you want to go. Episode 111 | What If My First Ketamine Session Doesn’t Work?
2026/09/16
Have you heard that ketamine can work fast—sometimes really fast? Cool. But what if it doesn’t? What if you walk out of your first ketamine session without the breakthrough, the visions, the big cosmic download, or the life-changing experience you were expecting? Does that mean ketamine didn’t work? Not necessarily. And in this episode, I want to talk about the people who don’t have an impressive first ketamine session—because hope is a precious resource, especially when you’ve already tried treatment after treatment without getting the relief you were promised. I’m taking you inside my coaching work with “Jamie,” a client who came to ketamine with treatment-resistant depression, severe anxiety, and a whole lot of fear about what the medicine might crack open. Their first session? Pretty quiet. No huge visions. No cinematic psychedelic experience. Mostly rest, sedation, and being present with their own thoughts. And yet, when we actually looked at what happened during and after that supposedly “boring” session, there was a whole lot more healing happening than Jamie initially realized. Because y’all, an impressive ketamine session guarantees nothing. You can have the most stunning, technicolored, out-of-body experience and do absolutely nothing with it. And you can have the most meh session on record and still walk away transformed by what you do next. In this episode, we’re talking about: Why you’re always going to get the ketamine session you need—not necessarily the one you wantWhy a quiet first session may actually be exactly what your nervous system can receiveHow to tell whether ketamine is “working” beyond what happens in the chairThe subtle post-ketamine shifts that are really easy to dismissWhy preparation and a subconsciously sound intention matterHow Jamie’s seemingly insignificant memory became the gold of the sessionWhy the ketamine part of ketamine healing is the least important or interesting partWhat chasing profound psychedelic experiences can tell you about controlWhy chasing impressive sessions can quickly become chasing highs instead of healingWhat preparation and integration have to do with making ketamine actually work for youThe ketamine session cracks the door open. Whether you walk through it happens in everything you do before, after, and around the medicine—not just in the chair itself. So if your first ketamine session wasn’t fireworks, please don’t decide that you failed, ketamine failed, or healing isn’t available to you. A quiet session is one puzzle piece. Let’s look at the whole picture. 🎧 REFERENCES + RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE Ketamine Preparation Protocol (KPP) Everything I’ve learned over five years of helping clients prepare for ketamine, work intentionally with the medicine, and make the most of the neuroplastic window it creates: Explore the Ketamine Preparation Protocol Free Ketamine Resources More support for preparing for and getting more out of your ketamine healing: Get the free ketamine resources Ketamine Connections Episode 102 : Why Your "Disappointing" Ketamine Session Might Be Your Most Important  Ketamine healing doesn’t start when the medicine hits your system. Episode 110 | Think Ketamine Is Just for Depression? Think Again.
2026/09/09
When you think about who ketamine therapy is for, you might picture someone struggling with severe depression, PTSD, anxiety, or treatment-resistant mental health challenges. And yes—that person is absolutely part of the picture. But they are far from the whole picture. In this episode of Ketamine Connections, I’m walking you through four very different types of people I see doing this work with ketamine—from people seeking mental health healing, to high-achieving leaders who feel stuck inside the lives they’ve built, to biohackers interested in neuroplasticity, to people in their 60s, 70s, and 80s who are discovering that it is absolutely not too late to change their brains. Because ketamine isn’t just for the person in crisis. In this episode, we talk about: Ketamine for depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, and treatment-resistant mental health conditionsWhy leaders and high achievers may use ketamine as a pattern interrupt when they feel stuckWhat biohackers and optimizers may get wrong about ketamine—and why surrender mattersKetamine, aging, and neuroplasticityWhy you don’t need a diagnosis to want more out of your own mindThe point isn’t that there are exactly four kinds of people who use ketamine. It’s that the actual range of people doing this work with ketamine is so much wider than the person in crisis. And somewhere in that wide range, there’s room for you too. Because it’s not ketamine that creates the transformation. It’s you. Ketamine opens the door, and it’s up to you to walk through it. 🧠 KETAMINE RESOURCES Ketamine Starter Portal (KSP) New to ketamine or curious about whether it might be right for you? Episode 109 | How to Get Your Mom to Try Ketamine
2026/09/02
Do you want your mom to try ketamine? Yeah… me too. When ketamine has helped you experience healing, freedom, or transformation, it’s incredibly normal to want the people you love to experience it too. But there’s a big difference between opening the door to ketamine therapy and trying to drag someone through it. And apparently, I got to learn this lesson firsthand with my own mom. In this episode of Ketamine Connections, I’m sharing what happened when I finally told my mom, “I would honestly love for you to try ketamine sometime”—and the questions, fears, and concerns that came next. We’re talking about: ✨ Why you DON’T want to become a ketamine or psychedelic evangelist ✨ How to talk to a loved one who’s curious—but apprehensive—about ketamine ✨ What ketamine actually feels like compared to alcohol or cannabis ✨ The fear of losing control, saying something you regret, or “not being yourself” ✨ Ketamine and memory loss: what can actually happen during a session ✨ Why your loved one’s questions are sacred—even when they sound fear-based ✨ How safety, curiosity, and moving slowly can keep the conversation open Because here’s the thing: the goal isn’t necessarily getting them to say yes. The win might simply be creating enough safety that they keep asking questions. If you’re wondering how to talk to your mom, partner, friend, or loved one about ketamine therapy without pushing them away, this episode is for you. Episode 108 | New to Ketamine? 3 Things to Know Before You Start
2026/08/26
If you're new to ketamine therapy or Spravato (esketamine), figuring out where to start can feel overwhelming. How do you choose the right ketamine clinic or treatment provider? How should you prepare for a ketamine or Spravato session? And what should you do afterward to support the changes you're hoping to create? With more than 100 episodes of Ketamine Connections, there’s a lot you could listen to—but in this episode, Anna Kristall, your Ketamine Coach, boils it down to the three foundational episodes every ketamine beginner should hear. These principles can also be valuable if you're receiving Spravato treatment for depression and want to take a more intentional role in what happens before, during, and after your appointments. Because getting more out of ketamine isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about preparing adequately and learning how to work with your treatment instead of simply showing up and hoping for the best. In this episode, you’ll learn: How to choose a ketamine clinic or provider and what questions to ask before beginning treatmentHow to advocate for yourself within a ketamine or Spravato treatment settingWhy your preparation begins before ketamine or esketamine ever enters your systemHow to prepare for a ketamine or Spravato session more intentionallyWhat to avoid before treatment, including heavy input, emotional chaos, and unnecessary stressWhat to prioritize instead: space, gentle movement, introspection, intention, meditation, journaling, or hypnosisWhy the hours immediately after ketamine can be such an important part of the processHow to be intentional about your environment and inputs after a ketamine or Spravato treatmentWhy you don't need to immediately interpret everything that happened during your experienceWhat to do if you've already started ketamine therapy or Spravato without intentionally preparing beforehandThe 3 foundational Ketamine Connections episodes: Episode 36 — How to Choose a Ketamine Clinic Learn what to look for in a ketamine provider, which questions to ask before booking, and how to advocate for the support you need throughout treatment. Episode 48 — The Hours Before Ketamine Your experience begins before the medicine ever enters your body. Learn how to prepare your mind, environment, and subconscious before a ketamine session. Many of these preparation principles can also be applied when preparing for a Spravato appointment. Episode 33 — The Hours After Ketamine Learn how to be intentional with the period following your session, capture what surfaced, and create conditions that support meaningful change rather than immediately returning to your usual inputs and routines. And if you've already started ketamine therapy or Spravato treatments without doing any of this? It isn't too late. Preparation and intention are practices you can begin with your very next session. Sometimes changing what happens around your treatments is exactly what helps you engage with the process differently. If you're exploring ketamine therapy, IV ketamine, ketamine-assisted therapy, or Spravato (esketamine), preparing for your first treatment, or wondering how to get more out of sessions you've already started, consider this your starting point. Episode 107 | What's a K hole, and is it scary?
2026/08/19
If you’ve spent any time researching ketamine therapy, you’ve probably heard the term “K-hole”—and chances are, it wasn’t attached to a particularly comforting story. But what actually is a K-hole? Is it dangerous? Is it something you should avoid during ketamine therapy? And why can the same deeply dissociative state be terrifying for one person and profoundly healing for another? In this episode of Ketamine Connections, I’m breaking down what a K-hole actually feels like, why set and setting matter so much, and how my own fear of K-holes completely changed after experiencing deep dissociation intentionally in a therapeutic setting. We’ll talk about the difference between accidentally falling into a K-hole and intentionally entering a deeply dissociative ketamine experience with preparation, safety, and support. I’ll also share how combining ketamine and hypnosis became one of the most powerful tools in my own healing—and helped me reconnect with joy, community, and participating in my life again.  In this episode, we explore:  What a K-hole actually is and what deep ketamine dissociation can feel like  Why a K-hole isn’t a medical diagnosis or precise dosing category  K-holes vs. ego dissolution and peak psychedelic experiences  Why set, setting, intention, and preparation can completely change the experience  What happens when the “guardian of the mind” steps aside  How deep dissociation may create access to the subconscious mind  My experience combining ketamine with hypnosis  Why being afraid of going deep may change the way you approach ketamine  How to prepare your subconscious mind before your ketamine journey A K-hole isn’t inherently healing—and it isn’t inherently terrifying. It’s a depth of dissociation. What you bring into that depth matters. As I say in this episode: if ketamine alone created enlightenment, everyone doing it at a rave would be enlightened. The medicine isn't the whole story. What you do with the experience matters.  Ready to prepare for your ketamine journey? Ketamine Preparation Protocol Not ready for KPP? Episode 106 | Ketamine Doesn't Care How Badly You Want It to Work
2026/08/12
Wanting ketamine to work and actually being ready for ketamine therapy to change your life are two very different things. You can desperately want relief. You can be exhausted by depression, anxiety, or the patterns that have kept you stuck. You can walk into your first ketamine treatment hoping this is finally the thing that works. But ketamine isn’t magic—and the medicine can’t do all of the work for you. In this episode of Ketamine Connections, Ketamine Coach Anna Kristall explores what it actually means to be ready for ketamine therapy and why ketamine preparation, your nervous system, your subconscious mind, your support system, and your willingness to participate in your healing can matter just as much as the medicine itself. Using the metaphor of preparing soil before planting a seed, Anna explains why two people can receive the same ketamine dose from the same provider and walk away with completely different experiences—and why that doesn’t necessarily mean ketamine “worked” for one person and failed the other. In this episode, you’ll learn: The difference between wanting relief and actually being ready for changeWhy ketamine is better understood as a catalyst, not a magic fixHow your nervous system’s capacity can affect your ability to integrate changeWhy Anna doesn’t love the idea of ketamine as a simple “six-session fix”How to think about ketamine healing as a season rather than a quick solutionWhy your subconscious mind can reinforce both helpful and unhelpful beliefsThe difference between being open to ketamine and being genuinely ready to participateWhy fear doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t ready for ketamineHow your relationships, environment, and support system can influence your ketamine experienceThree questions to ask yourself before beginning—or continuing—your ketamine journeyMost importantly, readiness isn’t a test you have to pass. You don’t need a perfect life, a perfectly regulated nervous system, or every piece of your healing figured out before you begin. The goal isn’t perfect conditions. It’s becoming ready enough to honestly engage with what comes up and participate in the changes you’re asking ketamine to help create. Before your next ketamine session, ask yourself: Am I actually prepared for my life to change? Not just your mood—but potentially your relationships, habits, thinking, and the stories you’ve been telling yourself about who you are. Then ask what support you have around you and whether you’re willing to actually do something with what emerges from your journeys. Because the more you participate in this work, the more you can get out of it. Mentioned in This Episode Episode 28 — Should You Go Solo or Have a Sitter? Episode 105 | How to Know if Ketamine Is Working
2026/08/05
For years, maybe decades, you've been carrying emotional weight. The problem is... you probably don't even realize how heavy it is anymore. In this episode of Ketamine Connections, Anna Krishtal explains one of the most profound—and overlooked—experiences people have during ketamine therapy: realizing that depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other long-standing mental states may not actually be who you are. Using the metaphor of carrying a backpack filled with years of stress, trauma, coping mechanisms, and emotional survival strategies, Anna explores why ketamine can feel so life-changing even without dramatic visions or emotional breakthroughs. Because sometimes healing isn't about discovering something new. Sometimes it's simply remembering what it feels like to put the backpack down. You'll also learn why the contrast between your old baseline and a new experience of lightness may be one of the most powerful catalysts for lasting healing, how the brain's Default Mode Network keeps you locked into familiar patterns, and why small shifts often matter far more than the dramatic psychedelic experiences people expect. If you've ever wondered whether your ketamine session "worked," or worried that you didn't have a big enough breakthrough, this episode is for you. In this episode, you'll learn:  Why depression, anxiety, and PTSD often become part of your identity  The backpack metaphor that explains emotional weight  How ketamine temporarily quiets the Default Mode Network  Why contrast—not catharsis—is often where healing begins  The surprising power of "small cracks" during psychedelic therapy  Why chasing a perfect ketamine experience can actually get in the way  How integration helps expand small moments of change into lasting transformation  What to notice after your ketamine session instead of asking, "Did it work?" Resources Mentioned 🎧 Episode 102: Why a Disappointing Ketamine Session Might Be the Most Important One You Ever Have 🧠 The Ketamine Preparation Protocol (KPP) Learn how to prepare your subconscious mind before ketamine so you can get more out of every journey. 👉 https://www.annakrishtal.com/kpp 🤝 Work With Anna One-on-One Sometimes it's difficult to recognize your own patterns when you're living inside them. Episode 104 | Should I Do Ketamine or Another Psychedelic?
2026/07/29
If you've been wondering whether ketamine is the "beginner psychedelic," whether you should wait until you're "ready" for mushrooms or ayahuasca, or whether another psychedelic might work better... this episode is for you. In today's episode of Ketamine Connections, we're breaking down one of the biggest misconceptions in the psychedelic space: the idea that there's a hierarchy of psychedelics. Here's the truth: there is no "best" psychedelic. Ketamine isn't a lighter version of psilocybin. Mushrooms aren't a scarier version of ketamine. Ayahuasca isn't the "advanced level." Every psychedelic works differently in the brain, interacts with different receptors, and offers its own unique medicine. More importantly, comparing psychedelics often distracts you from the healing that's already available right in front of you. If you've ever worried that choosing ketamine somehow "doesn't count," or felt like you're taking the easy way out compared to someone else's psychedelic journey, this conversation will help you let go of that belief and fully trust the medicine you've chosen. In this episode, you'll learn: Why comparing ketamine to other psychedelics is like comparing apples and orangesThe biggest mistake people make when choosing a psychedelicWhy there is no hierarchy of psychedelicsHow comparison quietly sabotages your healingWhy trust matters more than the specific medicine you chooseHow to stop wondering if you're doing psychedelics "the right way"Why fully committing to your ketamine journey can create deeper transformationMentioned in this episode: 🧠 Episode 98: The Perfectionist's Guide to Ketamine Learn how perfectionism and ego can quietly interfere with your healing journey. 🎧 Ketamine Preparation Protocol (KPP) Want to get more out of your ketamine treatments before you even begin? Episode 103 | The One Thing That Causes a Bad Ketamine Trip
2026/07/22
One of the biggest fears keeping people from trying ketamine therapy is the fear of having a bad trip. But what if the thing that actually makes a ketamine session "bad" isn't what comes up... but how we relate to what comes up? In this episode of Ketamine Connections, ketamine coach and hypnotherapist Anna Krishtal breaks down one of the most common concerns she hears from clients: "What if I have a bad ketamine trip?" Drawing on years of guiding clients through ketamine preparation and integration, Anna shares why fear often disguises itself as logic, how the subconscious mind accidentally rehearses the very experiences we're trying to avoid, and why surrender—not control—is one of the most important skills you can develop before treatment. You'll also learn the three ways fear commonly shows up before ketamine therapy, why hard sessions are often the most transformative, and how proper preparation can completely change your relationship with challenging experiences. In this episode, you'll learn:  Why fear of a bad ketamine trip is one of the biggest barriers to healing  The three ways fear shows up before ketamine therapy: bracing, white-knuckling, and fear of punishment Why "worrying is praying for what you don't want" from the perspective of the subconscious mind  How the subconscious mind processes fear differently than the conscious mind  Why resistance—not difficult content—is what creates a bad ketamine experience  The difference between a hard session and a bad session  How curiosity transforms challenging ketamine journeys  Why surrender is a skill you can practice before your treatment  How anxiety may actually prepare you for working with ketamine  Why preparation—not luck—is one of the biggest predictors of a meaningful ketamine experience Resources Mentioned 🧠 The Ketamine Preparation Protocol (KPP) Prepare your subconscious—not just your body—for ketamine therapy. Curiosity, surrender, and trust aren't personality traits—they're skills. And skills can be learned. Episode 102 | Why Your "Disappointing" Ketamine Session Might Be Your Most Important
2026/07/15
Have you ever walked out of a ketamine session wondering... "Did it work?" Maybe your first journey felt profound, emotional, or even life-changing, and your second felt... ordinary. Or maybe you expected vivid visuals, deep insights, or an overwhelming breakthrough, but instead found yourself wondering if you did something wrong. In this episode of Ketamine Connections, we're exploring one of the most important truths in psychedelic healing: You get the trip you need—not necessarily the one you want. We'll talk about why every ketamine journey is different, why comparing sessions can actually hold you back, and how learning to trust the medicine can completely change your healing process. Using a real client story, I walk you through how expectations almost convinced one client that ketamine had "stopped working" after an incredible first session—and how looking one layer deeper revealed that his most valuable healing wasn't happening during the journey itself, but afterward. We'll also explore why so many people question whether the insights they receive are "real," what your Default Mode Network has to do with self-doubt, and how to recognize the difference between forcing meaning and allowing genuine insight to emerge. If you're preparing for ketamine therapy, already receiving ketamine treatments, or simply trying to get more from your psychedelic integration process, this episode will help you approach your sessions with greater trust, curiosity, and confidence. In this episode, we discuss:  Why every ketamine journey feels different  What "you get the trip you need" really means  Why expecting every session to feel profound can create disappointment  How comparing ketamine sessions keeps you from seeing what's actually happening  The difference between trust and control during psychedelic healing  A real client story about expectations, fear, and learning to listen to the medicine  How to tell the difference between genuine insight and overthinking  The role of the Default Mode Network in ketamine therapy  Why your body often recognizes truth before your mind does  How ketamine integration turns experiences into lasting change Resources Mentioned ✨ The Ketamine Preparation Protocol (KPP) If you're preparing for ketamine—or want to get more from the treatments you're already doing—my signature framework walks you through exactly how to prepare your subconscious mind before treatment so you can maximize the neuroplastic window afterward. ➡️ https://www.annakrishtal.com/kpp ✨ Join the FREE Ketamine Starter Portal Inside you'll find free resources, recommended podcast episodes, preparation tools, and updates on upcoming integration offerings. ➡️ https://www.yourketaminecoach.com/free Submit Your Ketamine Transformation Story Has ketamine changed your life?
