This one left us way more confused than we expected. We’re breaking down Digimon Hurricane Touchdown!/Transcendent Evolution! The Golden Digimentals, the original Japanese story that became 1/3 of Digimon: The Movie we grew up with on Fox Kids. We really enjoyed that heavily edited Saban version, so finally seeing the original should’ve been an easy win. But somehow, it feels darker, slower, and even more confusing than the crazy editing of the Saban cut. Willis and Terriermon are at the center of the story, and we’ve got a lot to say about why these versions of them didn’t connect with us quite the same way. From Willis’s history with Kokomon to the Golden Digimentals and a story that gets increasingly stranger as it goes, we’re figuring out why the version we loved as kids might actually work better for us. 📺 WATCH MY ADVENTURES WITH DIGIMON ON YOUTUBE https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0gHHg-xQBVPkZXCHukQAE6XMdqcqKfUm ❤️ SUPPORT THE SHOW Patreon: https://patreon.com/hopefullyawesome Become a YouTube Member: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHRvjz_pKP1Th5Y8ZIwFMtQ/join 🛍️ HOPEFULLY AWESOME MERCH https://hopefullyawesome.creator-spring.com/ 📒 SHOW NOTES AND RESOURCES Time Stamps 0:00 - My Adventures With Digimon - 2x21.5 4:18 - Hurricane Touchdown!! Each week, Matt and Maggie break down the story, compare the dubs, rank the Digimon of the week, hunt for references, and occasionally get distracted by what the DigiDestined are eating. We’re a married couple who love 90s and 00s nostalgia, good laughs, and geeking out over the stuff we love. Whether you grew up watching Digimon or you’re discovering it for the first time, grab your Digivice and come along for the adventure. My Adventures With Digimon is part of Hopefully Awesome, where we keep things positive, have fun, and celebrate the stuff we love.

We’re closing out the Digimon Emperor arc with one of the most emotional victories of our Digimon Adventure 02 rewatch so far. Magnamon finally arrives for an awesome showdown with Kimeramon, but the real heart of this episode belongs to Wormmon. His heartbreaking sacrifice turns what should be a huge victory into something much more somber. We’re talking Episode 20, “The Darkness Before Dawn,” and WOW are we ready for the Digimon Emperor arc finale! Kimeramon is completely out of control, Ken is finally starting to realize just how far he’s gone, and Wormmon makes the huge decision to help Davis bring the Emperor’s flying fortress down from the inside. But the moment that had us the most excited was Davis discovering the mysterious golden Digi-Egg and unlocking Veemon’s incredible new Armor Digivolution: Magnamon! That golden armor entrance is such a fantastic cliffhanger, and after everything this arc has been building toward, we cannot wait to see Magnamon take on Kimeramon and find out how this whole Digimon Emperor story ends. This week on My Adventures With Digimon, T.K. has officially had ENOUGH, and we loved every second of it. Our Digimon Adventure Season 2 rewatch podcast continues with Episode 19, “An Old Enemy Returns,” as T.K. comes face-to-face with the Digimon Emperor and straight-up throws hands with Ken in one of the most satisfying moments of the season so far. We’re talking about what pushes T.K. over the edge, how his history with Devimon makes that quick cameo hit so much harder, and why this confrontation feels like a side of T.K. we rarely get to see. Plus, Kimeramon is finally unleashed, the Emperor’s plans are getting scarier, and part two of this four-part story seriously raises the stakes. Hell yeah, T.K.! Apparently Yolei woke up and chose absolute chaos. As the DigiDestined begin searching for the Digimon Emperor’s mysterious moving base, the episode starts laying the groundwork for a bigger, more connected story that has us really excited about where Season 2 is headed. But the real question is… what the heck got into Yolei?! She goes from determined to completely unhinged so fast that we half expected her to pull a Jessie Spano and start yelling, “I’m so excited!” Thankfully, her reckless streak leads to a genuinely sweet moment with Hawkmon and a little much-needed perspective from Kari. We’re talking Yolei’s wild behavior, the promise of this new overarching storyline, Ken’s floating fortress, and why this episode was such a fun time. This week’s episode takes us back to one of the most emotional pieces of season one as we revisit “Ghost of a Chance” and the return of Wizardmon. With the original DigiDestined and the new team coming together on August 1st, this episode is packed with nostalgia as everyone looks back on their first adventure, revisits familiar places from the Myotismon battle, and remembers just how much has happened since that first trip to the Digital World. But the real heart of this one is Kari, Gatomon, and the mysterious ghost haunting Fuji TV Station. Seeing Wizardmon again absolutely got us, especially as his connection to Gatomon and his sacrifice for Kari come rushing back while his cryptic warning points toward something much bigger still waiting for the DigiDestined. We loved how this episode celebrates Digimon Adventure’s history while quietly setting up the future with Ken, kindness, darkness, and whatever comes next. We’re revisiting Digimon Adventure 02 Episode 16, “20,000 Digi-Leagues Under the Sea,” and Cody’s big lesson about lying is testing our patience almost as much as his fear of the ocean. We get what the episode is going for, but when the rest of the DigiDestined are literally in danger, Cody agonizing over whether it’s okay to lie for help feels a little too much like toddler-level morality, even for a kids anime. Thankfully, the episode gives us plenty of fun along the way, including the Digi-Egg of Reliability, Joe stepping in with some much-needed perspective, and the debut of Submarimon, which finally gives Cody and Armadillomon their underwater upgrade. It’s an okay episode with a cool new Armor Digivolution, a few laughs, and one moral dilemma that had us doing a whole lot of eye-rolling. We’re revisiting Digimon Adventure 02 Episode 15, “Big Trouble in Little Edo,” for a rewatch podcast that’s perfectly fine, even if it never becomes much more than that. The DigiDestined stumble into an old-school Japanese town where Shurimon and Ninjamon settle their rivalry with a battle of honor, while ShogunGekomon causes trouble under the control of a Dark Spiral. We talk about the surprisingly fun ninja showdown, the episode’s similarities to the Western adventure from a few weeks ago, and why this one leaves us happy enough but also a little bored. We’re talking Digimon Adventure 02 episode 14, “The Samurai of Sincerity,” and honestly, this one was just a blast. Mimi is back, we meet Michael and Betamon as new DigiDestined from America, and the episode is packed with fun callbacks to the original Adventure crew’s first experiences in the Digital World. But the big moment is Yolei finally unlocking the Digi-Egg of Sincerity, giving Hawkmon his awesome new armor digivolution, Shurimon. From Digitamamon’s return to Gorillamon chaos, this Digimon rewatch podcast has friendship, nostalgia, and a very cool samurai turtle ninja thing. This one genuinely felt like a horror movie. Between Kari’s unsettling visions, the fog-covered world, the eerie Dark Ocean, and the looming presence of Dragomon, this episode gives us some of the creepiest and most fascinating world-building in the entire series. We absolutely loved the Cthulhu-esque atmosphere and the sense that something ancient and terrifying is lurking just beyond what the DigiDestined can understand. At the same time, this episode gives us some wonderful Kari and T.K. moments as their relationship continues to grow, leading to some of the sweetest and most memorable interactions of the season. We’re breaking down the mystery of the Dark Ocean, why the lack of a true resolution is both frustrating and fascinating, and why this might be one of the most haunting episodes Digimon ever produced. We’re saddling up for Digimon Adventure 02 Episode 12, “The Good, The Bad, and The Digi”… and wow, this might be the roughest ride of the entire series so far. What should be a fun Wild West parody somehow ends up feeling like one of the most pointless, unfunny, and surprisingly boring episodes we’ve seen on this rewatch. From Starmon’s cowboy town to Deputymon, the walking revolver sheriff who absolutely steals the spotlight, we break down what went wrong, what little worked, and whether this episode deserves its reputation as a forgotten filler adventure. Along the way, we talk about bizarre comedy choices, missing character development, Western movie inspirations, and why an episode featuring poker games, milk-drinking cowboys, and gun-shaped Digimon still struggles to leave much of an impact. Sometimes even Digimon can’t hit the target, and this one might have missed the saloon entirely. Grab your cowboy hat and join us as we revisit what could be the worst episode of Digimon Adventure 02 so far. In this episode of My Adventures With Digimon, we’re talking Digimon Adventure 02 episode 11, “Storm of Friendship,” and yeah, Raidramon is finally here! This rewatch podcast and series retrospective has us geeking out over Davis earning his second Digi-Egg, the Crest of Friendship showing up in a big way, and Veemon’s electric new armor digivolution stealing the spotlight. We had a lot of fun with the Davis and T.K. tension, the MetalGreymon rescue mission, and the way this episode turns friendship into something messy, goofy, and genuinely exciting. Plus, Matt giving Davis the “you’re officially part of the team” noogie? Perfect Digimon energy. In this episode of My Adventures With Digimon, we’re breaking down Digimon Adventure 02 Episode 10, “The Captive Digimon,” as Tai desperately tries to save Agumon from the Digimon Emperor. We had a blast with this one, even if Ken absolutely sucks here with the way he treats Agumon and pushes the Dark Spiral experiments way too far. We’re talking Dark MetalGreymon’s terrifying debut, Wormmon continuing to be the emotional MVP, and why Matt showing up for Tai at the end feels like such a perfect classic Digimon friendship moment. This episode really raises the stakes for the Emperor arc, and honestly… Dark MetalGreymon is nightmare fuel. In this episode of My Adventures With Digimon, we’re breaking down “The Emperor’s New Home,” where Ken fully embraces becoming the Digimon Emperor and the stakes suddenly feel way bigger. The DigiDestined realize something is seriously wrong after Ken disappears into the Digital World, but the real shock comes when he captures Agumon and tries to turn Tai’s partner into his newest weapon. We also get the terrifying return of SkullGreymon, bringing back one of the most emotional and chaotic Digimon moments ever. Between Ken’s downward spiral, Agumon’s capture, and the growing danger surrounding every DigiDestined partner, this episode left us excited, stressed, and desperate to see what happens next. In this episode of My Adventures With Digimon, we’re breaking down Digimon Adventure 02 Episode 8, “Ken’s Secret,” and this one was just a blast, getting to see Ken interact with the DigiDestined in the real world during the soccer match adds such a fun (and slightly off) layer, especially as Davis tries to prove himself, but everything shifts once we hit the Digital World and that intense Deltamon moment where Davis is forced to choose between his friends. It all builds to that huge final reveal, the Digimon Emperor’s identity finally clicks, and realizing it’s been Ken all along completely changes the way this story feels going forward.
