Description

I collect first-hand paranormal encounters that I find and present them with genuine interest, casual analysis, and correlating folklore. My intention is to curate tales that highlight the aspect of human experience that I find most interesting–the otherworldly and unexplainable. For as long as there have been humans, there have been fairies, ghosts, strange animals, supernatural abilities, and stories about them. The classic setting in which these tales are told are by the fire. Consider this your digital hearth-side. Pull up a chair, and listen to stories best told by candlelight. #104 ✶ Zombie heads, green babies, and Halloween house elevators
2026/10/19
Tonight I am reading several stories of first-hand paranormal encounters... or are they? These are accounts I've flagged for potentially being fiction passed off as genuine. The subject matter (living severed heads, mechanical green babies...) seems almost a little too far-fetched to be true, even among supernatural experiences. But I could be wrong! Listen and let me know what you think. ✶ Check out my blog where I write about Irish folklore, here. ✶You can contact me at [email protected] Music by goblin kwain
#104 ✶ Monsters under the bed… skeletons, goblins, and long, stretching arms
2026/09/28
In this episode I’m exploring a common childhood fear–monsters under the bed–except these encounters really happened. I found over a dozen examples of people swearing up and down that when they were a child something came out from under their bed. The stories I’m reading come from Reddit and the Forteana Forums and describe skeletons, goblins, and hands reaching up at them as they tried to sleep. I find this subject absolutely fascinating, and it plays into one of my supernatural obsessions. Be careful not to let your foot dangle over the side of the bed, and thanks for tuning in. ✶ Check out my blog where I write about Irish folklore, here. ✶You can contact me at [email protected] The thumbnail is artwork by John Holmes for the 1973 book At the Mountains of Madness by H.P. #103 ✶ Goblins with capes and three foot green hands
2026/09/14
Tonight I am reading eight stories of strange supernatural encounters sourced from the Fairy Census, Reddit, and the USC Folklore Archives. These accounts feature some of my favorite topics, themes, and motifs in paranormal experiences, so I’m considering this a Goblin Kwain sampler/starter pack. Included are disembodied hands, green ladies, goblins/leprecauns, bizarre childhood experiences and beings seen while driving. There are some really weird and wonderful stories in this episode; and just to be clear, even though this is a sampler of my favorite topics, I have not read these stories previously! So, sit back and enjoy. Thanks for tuning in. ✶ Listen to my interview on the Modern Fairy Sightings podcast, here. ✶ Check out my blog where I write about Irish folklore, here. ✶You can contact me at [email protected] The thumbnail is artwork by Wayne Barlowe for the 1979 book Cold Hand in Mine by Robert Aickman (excellent book!!!) #102 ✶ Parades of tiny people, pukwudgies, and many multicultural fairy experiences
2026/08/24
In this episode I will be reading a handful of experiences with fairies across a variety of cultures. The main sources are the Fairy Census and Reddit, but I consult a few others for additional experiences and information about specific cultural beings. There are the dangerous fairy winds of Ireland, leprechauns on the loose in Pennsylvania, the waterfall dwelling chaneques of Mexico, and many first-hand encounters. #101 ✶ The fairy host of Pennsylvania | The Keystone Hagstone by Timothy Renner
2026/08/04
✶ Thumbnail is original artwork by Timothy Renner In this episode I speak with Timothy Renner about his latest book The Keystone Hagstone: Faeries and Other Mysterious Entities of Pennsylvania. Tim has lovingly gathered Pennsylvania folklore regarding fairies, witches, spectral hounds, eternal hunters (and so much more) and compiled it in this manuscript. We talk about these topics and go over excerpts of the book, while commenting on the nature of folklore and the paranormal. We make sure to highlight some of the weirdest, spookiest, and most magical entries in the Keystone Hagstone, and briefly highlight another booklet Tim has republished, Edric and Sylvaine, a romantic tale of a minstrel and his fairy wife. #100 ✶ Goats at the window, men without skin & other odd experiences
2026/07/22
This is a rerelease of an episode I had made for a (now defunct) Patreon page. In it, I read a variety of short experiences and comments I had set aside from previous episodes. These include a road-crossing goblin, a creepy doll found in the woods, a jester seen crouching behind the toilet, and more weird childhood experiences! Thanks for all who have tuned for 100 episodes!! ✶ you can contact me at [email protected] ✶ check out my blog for writings on Irish folklore, Themes of Twixt 'n Tween
#99 ✶ River nymphs, headless horsemen and giants
2026/06/22
In this episode I read accounts of strange supernatural encounters from Reddit. These stories are from a variety of cultures and geographic locations, and spring forth a treasure trove of fascinating folklore. In between stories I read comments that share additional anecdotes, and expand on the folklore found in these tales. We’re talking giants, elves, witches, spectral horsemen, nymphs, and more… These stories and legends come from Albania, Greece, Indonesia, El Salvador, Pakistan, Slovenia, Nicaragua–the list goes on…
‘Fairies’ of the Philippines and their futuristic hidden city – Engkanto and Biringan
2026/05/12
In this video I will be talking extensively about Biringan City, a legendary city said to be invisible to humans and populated by engkanto, beings that are very similar to fairies in Celtic folklore. Biringan is said to be hidden somewhere within the forests and mountains of Samar, an ultramodern (even futuristic) city, where buildings, clothing, and food is black. You can happen upon it by accident, glimpse it in the shifting sea-mists, or perhaps be ‘invited’ by an engkanto who has fallen in love with you. The engkanto are said to look mostly human, except that they are extremely beautiful and lacking a philtrum. But to court them is to invite danger. You could go mad, fall ill, or disappear–wandering into the forest never to be seen again. I will be reading information and personal accounts from essays and different online material such as Reddit, the USC Folklore archives, and Liminal Earth. #97 ✶ Kitchen fairies: a variety of encounters from the Fairy Census
2026/04/20
Tonight I’ll be reading eight stories from the Fairy Census, an academic research effort to collect anonymous first-hand experiences with fairies. Besides all of these stories having to do with fairies, they also all take place in the kitchen. ✶ To view/download the Fairy Census, click here. ✶ To submit to the Fairy Census, click here. ✶ For additional content, check my Patreon. ✶ you can contact me at [email protected]

2026/03/07
Tonight I’ll be continuing my series reading stories from Liminal Earth (https://liminal.earth/). #95 ✶ Bears with human hands, glass fairy castles & sleepover skeletons
2026/02/17

#94 ✶ Closet gnomes, bumblebee riders & more amazing encounters from the Fairy Census
2026/02/02
Tonight I’ll be reading accounts from the Fairy Census, an ongoing academic research project conducted by Dr. Simon Young. This survey gathers and presents anonymous encounters with fairies. You may have a certain image in your head of what a fairy looks like, but this variety of experiences will show that fairies are perceived to take a whole host of forms. ✶ for more episodes of me reading accounts from the Fairy Census, check this playlist. ✶ to read the Fairy Census, click here. ✶ to submit to the Fairy Census, click here. ✶ to read Simon’s article on Fairy Encounters of the Third Kind, click here. ✶ you can contact me at [email protected] ✶ for additional content, check Patreon.
#93 ✶ Green hands that reach from under your bed… exploring a common creepy childhood experience
2026/01/20
In this episode I’ll be reading experiences and comments on Reddit about people remembering seeing a green hand as a child. The similarities in the stories and the way this idea or memory resonated with so many people fascinated me, and I felt compelled to make this episode. As well as reading the stories and marking similarities, I’ll also touch on pop culture references brought up that may have induced this imagery, and muse on the role that the green severed hand has had in our collective subconscious. ✶ To watch the video version on YouTube, click here. ✶ For more on the Hairy Hands of Dartmoor, I suggest checking out this episode of the Fairy Whispering Podcast. ✶ for more content, check Patreon. ✶ you can contact me at [email protected] ✶ music by goblin kwain
#92 ✶ Flying witches, static people, and floating down from trees
2026/01/05
In this episode I’ll be reading several stories of first-hand paranormal encounters from websites Your Ghost Stories and Reddit. The topics of these accounts include bizarre but oddly common experiences such as seeing people made of TV static, witnessing a flying witch on a broomstick, and childhood levitation. In between the stories I’ll share my thoughts and musings and read additional encounters related in the comments of each forum. ✶ you can contact me at [email protected] ✶ for additional content, check Patreon. ✶ music by goblin kwain
#91 ✶ Santa sightings and Christmas fairies
2025/12/22
Tonight I’ll be reading stories from Reddit where people claimed to have seen Santa Claus. We all know that Santa isn’t real, so what are people experiencing? Is it simply childhood imagination, or something stranger? I’ll also read a couple of encounters from the Fairy Census where people recount seeing fairies dancing around their Christmas presents as children. In Victorian England it was a Christmas tradition to gather around the fire and exchange ghost stories–let’s revive the ‘spirit’ of Christmas with some supernatural tales. ✶ To view my source list, click here. ✶ you can contact me at [email protected] music by goblin kwain
