Description

Do you resonate with the idea of being a system of many different parts or subpersonalities that have different hopes and agendas for you, rather than feeling like one fixed personality? And perhaps you know deep down that your deepest authentic Self is already healed and whole, even if it most days it doesn’t really feel like that? Same! This is the understanding of the Internal Family Systems model — created by Richard Schwartz. This podcast is a celebration of what it is like to live as a system of parts, learning to be more Self Led. We welcome all your parts to this ’Parts Party’ with Adriana and Ella, therapists and IFS enthusiasts, as they discuss the lived experience of the Internal Family Systems. This podcast is not affiliated with IFS Institute. E19. Parts Party with Max Littman
2026/06/04
Max Littman is a gay male therapist in Oakland, California. He specializes in relationship counseling, therapy for work burnout, LGBTQ+ therapy, and trauma therapy, with a particular emphasis on gay and queer men and childhood trauma. Much of this comes from lived experience. When it comes to being gay, Max says he knows what it’s like to grow up sensing something is different before there is language for it, to carry shame quietly, to mask, to wait, and to come out internally long before letting others in. Max acknowledges that coming out is not a single moment of relief, but often the beginning of a new, tender, and disorienting developmental phase. His recent book Internal Family Systems Therapy for Gay and Queer Men: A Companion for After Coming Out explores the deeper, less visible layers of the journey: navigating friendship, intimacy, community, identity, self-worth, and the emotional burdens that can linger long after coming out. Max is a prolific author and has written blog posts on many different topics related to therapy and IFS. We had a great time asking him about his own internal world of parts and Self. Stay in Touch! IFS Meditation: Sealing Light with Bob Falconer
2026/01/06
Adapted from William Baldwin. Bob says "This meditation was developed as a way for people to protect themselves from what Baldwin called Negative Energies. I believe it’s more effective than creating a boundary or a wall. Protectors tend to attract what they fear the most, and walls tend to do that, too. If you practice this meditation often, it can become a tool to quickly protect you from the energies you’re dealing with, however the very best protection is not being afraid, and this meditation can help us with that." Bob Falconer has worked with, taught, and consulted on IFS for over 14 years. He's recently published his latest book: The Others Within Us: Internal Family Systems, Porous Mind, and Spiritual Possession - on unattached burdens and guides. Bob Falconer is an IFS Therapist and author of 'The Others Within Us' co-authored with Richard Schwartz. In this episode, Bob shares his own history- one of extreme sadistic child abuse; sexual, physical, emotional, and spiritual. His brother suicided when they were teenagers, his mother was in and out of mental hospitals, and his father was murdered when Bob was 21. His work in therapy was motivated by his own need to heal and he was drawn to working with men with similar histories. He was one of the first men to publicly talk about being a sexual abuse survivor. (This podcast is not affiliated with the IFS Institute.)
