Description

Man vs Mind is a brutally honest, often funny, and always relatable men’s mental health podcast about the things men feel but rarely talk about. Tim and J are two ordinary blokes trying to make sense of their own heads – anxiety, anger, confidence, fatherhood, stress, medication, relationships, intrusive thoughts, and the day-to-day stuff most men brush off. No experts, no preachy advice, no five-step solutions. Just real conversation about real feelings and the stupid sh*t going on in our heads. The message is simple: you are not alone. When you hear someone else say the thing you’ve quietly struggled with, it cuts through the noise and loneliness and makes your beautiful mess feel a bit more manageable. That’s what this show is for. Some of it is silly, some of it is uncomfortable, and some of it is painfully truthful – but it’s exactly the kind of honesty men aren’t taught to share. If you want a podcast where men actually talk about what’s going on in their minds, without bravado or judgement, this is it. Disclaimer: we’re not mental health professionals. Nothing here is medical or psychological advice – just lived experience and open conversation. We genuinely love hearing from listeners – the honest, the messy, the embarrassing, all of it.

Switching anxiety meds destroyed me – but I'm back! | Man vs Medication
2026/06/23
His knees were weak, palms sweaty, and before you think Tim's rapping along to Lose Yourself, he's actually describing two of the four billion bloody symptoms he had while changing meds. Apparently serotonin withdrawl is a real thing and f*ck me it's savage. So once he got his head clear, him and J went through it all blow by bizarre blow, before digging into J's head as he prepares to become a daddy again. Fatherhood. It's a big one. You know what that means... 🚨 *Incoming mini-series alert* 🚨 Head to patreon.com/c/manvsmindpod for some periodic extra stuff for free and for paid if you like us a lot.
My Apple Watch made me obsessive – so I binned it | Man vs Obsessive Behaviour
2026/06/17
Tim's psychiatrist says he's exhibiting strong obsessive and neurotic tendancies... So Tim's spiralling, obvs. He's also mid-medication change (hello Prozac my old friend) – his head is all over the friggin place this week, and makes no attempt to hide it. They go over how smart gadgets and health-tracking tech actually feed obsessive behaviours, and Tim's experience ditching his scales and Apple Watch. Then Tim absolutely goes off the deep end about how Big Tech sells you the healthy solution to the lazy, snacky modern life. Because CaPiTaLiSm BrO 🛸 Oh and there's talk about vinyl records in space. For real.
Why do men cry over football? | Man vs FIFA World Cup 2026 (Que Sera, Sera, We're Going to Therapy)
2026/06/08
With the World Cup 2026 kicking off, Tim and J tackle the question no man really wants answered: why does watching 22 strangers kick a ball reduce functional adults to tears? It's about sport, finding a sense of belonging, tribalism, and the awkward fact that football is one of the only socially-accepted places men are allowed to cry. They get into the teams you're born into versus the ones you pick, hooliganism as accidental group therapy, and the crushing anti-climax of your club finally winning something after seventy years – only to find the birds don't sing louder the next morning. It's also the episode that accidentally started this whole show. Que sera, sera. We're going to therapy. (Bee tee dubs, Tim recorded the entire thing in sunglasses, indoors, in the dark. He maintains this is a rock star aesthetic and not, as it obviously is, conjunctivitis.) You can watch the full episode exclusively on Patreon (for free, dw). Sign up here!
I feel happy but seem "miserable" – why? | Man vs Happiness (pt 2)
2026/06/01
Tim and J return to happiness, four months after part one (you can blame a certain someone across the pond...). Tim arrives fresh from therapy, where he and his therapist exchanged a foot five (wtf?). He's ditched the scales, he's lifting heavier weights in the gym... and shaved his own hair off... so yeah he seems pretty stable. J snapped at a colleague for the first time in his life, spent an hour apologising, and the guys get into who really benefits from an apology. They also cover feeling happy versus seeming it, how Tim's son nearly destroyed him with a toy flower, and why Bhutan measures Happiness instead of GDP. (Also: J climbed Mount Kenya, saw nothing at the top, and nearly shat himself.)
I'm healthier than ever, so why do I feel worse about my body? | Man vs Body Image (again)
2026/05/25
Tim and J return to body image – a year after their first three episodes on the subject, which apparently achieved very little for Tim personally. Despite quitting smoking, cutting back on the booze, and actually going to the gym again, his relationship with his own reflection has somehow got worse. They get into that, in detail, and J sets Tim a challenge. J, meanwhile, has lost a tonne of weight since starting ADHD medication and taken up intermittent fasting for reasons that turn out to be surprisingly well-researched. Together they cover obsession, ChatGPT as a personal trainer (verdict: relentlessly positive, close-to-useless), and why "thinner" and "healthier" are not most definitely NOT the same thing. Also featuring: gym mirror narcissists, a 90km bike ride attempted with no preparation whatsoever, and the Excel World Cup (yup, it's real, and it's a serious thing).
The 6-hour carpark wait (thanks, Anxiety) | Man vs The Last 3 Months pt 2
2026/05/18
We extend our thanks to Anxiety for its role in today's talking points. And J specifically wants to thank Anxiety for his day-long wait in the car park after dropping his little girl off at nursery. Tim & J are properly back in the swing of things now and looking to get some closure on the last three months. How can you take care of your mental health when your whole world and routine go out the window? Yeah, the guys struggle with that. And J can't get his head around the term 'exercise snacking'. Tim insists it's not that complicated. J insists Tim's full of sh*t.
We’re BACK! Baby joy, regional conflict, grief, and very pink sneakers | Man vs The Last 3 Months
2026/05/14
And boom, brand-new Man vs Mind drop out of nowhere, like we've never been away. After three months away (and approximately 47 WhatsApp voice notes saying “we really need to record”), we’re finally back in the same room together. This episode is one big catch-up on everything that’s happened while we’ve been gone – the beautiful, the painful, the surreal, and the very, very stupid. J shares the joy of expecting a baby boy, alongside the heartbreak of losing his father-in-law. We talk honestly about grief, becoming parents for the second time, and how strange it feels watching your children slowly become their own little people. We also unpack what it’s been like living through months of regional tension and uncertainty here in the Middle East – the anxiety, the sleepless nights, the emotional weirdness of experiencing “real-time trauma” while still trying to carry on with everyday life. Somewhere in amongst all that: Tim rebuilt a kitchen, forgot to film half the episode, had an existential crisis during bedtime cuddles, and bought a pair of aggressively pink Adidas trainers with tiny platform soles. It’s emotional, chaotic, very excitable, occasionally profound, and — fair warning — unusually sweary even by our standards. We missed you. (Back as usual on Monday morning!)
Where we've been - and what's going on | A quick update
2026/04/22
Yeah we totally owe you an explanation. Blame geopolitics. And some other stuff. But we PROMISE we're back soon...ish. Soonish. It's still a promise. Jus7aJj66XrpcT0tFzvl
How routine, fitness & rituals are helping us cope
2026/03/18
Shaving your legs indirectly benefits your mental health... ... isn't something many podcasts will claim, but somehow Tim indirectly links shaving his leg(s) – for real – with maintaining his mental health. Make of that what you will. This week, still working remotely for safety reasons, Tim & J catch up on how they've been coping with the ongoing regional conflict. Expect talk about working out, getting tetchy, emotional flatness, reaching the end of your tether, and finally Tim considers dabbling with an EMS experiment on-air...
Trying to manage anxiety during a regional conflict
2026/03/09
Tim and J check in after a turbulent (and scary) week across the region. Instead of diving into geopolitics, they talk about the human side: anxiety, family life, sleepless nights, coping (or not coping), and the strange challenge of trying to stay normal while the world around you feels anything but. If you're feeling unsettled, anxious or scared and don't know who to talk to – please get in touch with us and we'll always listen: [email protected] Instagram: @manvsmindpod
What Does “Being Happy” Even Mean? | Man vs Happiness (Part One)
2026/02/23
Happiness is... ... blimey, screwed if we know. That's a massive question, and we probably bit off more than we could chew when we asked that. Today we start a bit of a deep dive into happiness. What's the difference between being in a good mood, and finding existential contentment? Told you we got deep. Plus, find out what our audience think happiness is (those that could bother to respond to our Instagram polls, anyway 😂) Part two of Happiness is coming next week!
How switching off autopilot changed us | Man vs Change
2026/02/11
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes… but not the “moving house / new job” kind. This week, Tim and J talk about an unnerving kind of change: the mental shift from running on autopilot to actually feeling like the main character in your own life. J opens up about getting help after months of anxiety "stealing" his time – the work spirals, the constant “what if I panic?” loop, and what’s changed since meds and starting therapy (including the urge to “answer therapy correctly”… because obviously). Then Tim gets into what quitting smoking has unlocked: more friction, less reactive decision-making, more patience, and that strange lightbulb moment of realising “I’m in control here”. They get into dopamine, comfort habits, exercise “snacking”, sugar, and why progress doesn’t always feel dramatic – sometimes it just feels… quiet. (Themes include anxiety, addiction, medication, and therapy.)
What's "healthy"... and what's obsession? | Man vs Healthy
2026/02/02
Okay this week Tim & J turned into proper hypochondriacs, and maybe conspiracy theorists – it's hard to tell these days. They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what about when you're freaking out about every ache, pain, wheeze, whistle, localised numbness or random bit of bleeding? That might call for more than your run of the mill Grannie Smith. So the guys huddle up and try to untangle what “healthy” even means nowadays – real health vs “healthy” as a marketing tool, and the rise of health kicks that promise quick fixes and deliver new anxieties. They get into diets, smoking, sugar cravings, the GLP-1 boom (Ozempic, Wegovy, the lot), and how the word “healthy” has been hijacked and distorted into a guilt-ridden, expensive piece of abstract performative live art. And Tim completely loses it when he hears they stopped manufacturing Prozac to make more GLP-1 meds… which is either the most cynical thing you’ve ever heard, or the moment you realise we’re all living in a massive scam. Reach out (I'll be there) | Man vs Problems
2026/01/26
This one is a bit ad-hoc. Because life gets in the way sometimes. As The Four Tops famously sang: Reach out, I'll be there, you can always depend on me. And those lyrics couldn't be more appropriate for Man vs Mind this week – when J's had a proper, proper, week of it. We go into why reaching out to a friend, a therapist, whoever, is the single best way of helping to manage your problems. (Oh, and why quitting smoking has made Tim feel like a 15 year old...) Vaping rewired my brain – but it didn't break me | Man vs Smoking
2026/01/19
This week, Tim quit the tastiest coping mechanism you'll find on the streets today – vaping. Having been an on-off smoker for most of his adult life, it reached the point where it didn't feel like a choice anymore, and something needed to change. But for the sake of search/discoverability let's call it a New Year's Resolution... Quitting absolutely wrecked his head – and it still does. So in this catch up with J, Tim speaks candidly about it all: shame, loss of control, the uncomfortable truths and the mental health impact of rehabbing from addiction. And, crucially, it's about why he smoked in the first place. This episode talks about addiction, beyond just smoking/vaping, but there's nothing but empathy here from the guys 💙 If you wanna get in touch and chat (with your privacy totally respected), please hit us up on Instagram @manvsmindpod – we promise we'll listen.
