I Consigned 3 Cards to DCSports87 — I Made MORE Than Selling Myself
2026/10/01
I sent 3 cards to DCSports87 for consignment for my first time.
Here's my honest review of the whole experience, start to finish.Overall, it was really smooth, I was happy with the prices, and I ended up with MORE money than if I'd auctioned them from my own account. Way more eyeballs on the cards too.
The 3 cards:
2024 Prizm WNBA Caitlin Clark base (PSA 9)
2024 Prizm WNBA Caitlin Clark Purple Prizm (PSA 8.5)
2024 Bowman Walker Jenkins Chrome Prospect Auto Refractor /499 (SGC 9, 10 auto)
Two things to watch out for if you submit cards for consignment:
Raw (ungraded) cards can go lower than you'd expect — buyers assume cards sent to consignment aren't in great shape.
Always double-check your listings — cards sometimes get mislabeled.

3 Card Sales That Taught Me 3 Lessons (Sunk Cost, Cost Basis & Timing)
2026/09/21
I sold three cards recently, and each one taught me something I wish I'd understood earlier. In this episode I break down all three sales and the exact lessons behind them, so you can sell smarter than I did.
The 3 lessons:1. Ignore the sunk cost fallacy. What you paid for a card is gone. The only number that matters when you sell is what it's worth right now, not what you need to "break even."2. Know what you really paid. Your true cost isn't the sticker price. It's the item + shipping + fees + grading, all in. Get that wrong and every profit call after it is wrong too.3. Timing is everything — know when to get out. Cards are a market. Reading the moment (hype, print run, the player's trajectory) is often the difference between a great sale and holding a bag.
The cards in this episode:• Walker Jenkins — 2024 Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto, Speckle Refractor /299 (PSA 10)• Caleb Williams — 2023 Bowman University 1st Auto• Josh Allen — 2018 Panini Contenders Optic ROY Contenders Auto (BGS 9)

My Top 5 Platforms to Buy & Sell Cards (Pros & Cons)
2026/09/18
The 5 platforms I actually use to buy and sell cards, and the honest pros and cons of each. I break down Fanatics Collect, Alt, eBay, Arena Club, and COMC: where each one shines, where it falls short, and which I reach for depending on what I'm buying or selling.
Whether you're flipping, investing, or just clearing out a collection, this should help you pick the right platform for the job.

MBA Grading: Not Necessary, But I Tried It Anyway
2026/09/14
Is MBA grading actually worth it? My honest take: I don't think grading is necessary for the hobby, and as a collector you don't need it. But as a seller, if a grade can push a card's price up, I'm willing to try it and find out.
So I put it to the test and sent four already-graded legends through MBA's crossover service to see how they come back:
1956 Topps Jackie Robinson (PSA 2)1955 Topps Sandy Koufax (SGC 1)1965 Cassius Clay / Muhammad Ali (SGC 3)1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky rookie (SGC 1.5)
Results aren't back yet, so this is part one: the thesis, the reasoning, and why I picked these four. A follow-up drops when the grades return.
Where do you land? Is grading necessary, or just a price lever?

My Worst Card Purchases of 2026 (I Spent $800 on This Pair of Sports Cards…)
2026/09/11
I spent $800 on a pair of Walker Jenkins 1st Bowman Chrome autos — and it's the purchases I regret most in 2026. In this video I break down exactly why it was a mistake: I don't normally buy prospects, Jenkins isn't a player I'm passionate about, and I let a wave of YouTube hype push me into it. The kicker? The cards have actually come DOWN since I bought them — even after he got called up to the majors. If you're tempted to chase the next big prospect or deviate from your traditional collecting strategy, learn from my $800 lesson before you pull the trigger. The cards:• 2024 Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto Refractor /499 — SGC 9 (Auto 10)• 2024 Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto Speckle Refractor /299 — PSA 10What I get into:• Why prospecting doesn't fit how I actually collect• Buying a player I'm not passionate about (and why that matters)• How much the YouTube hype cycle drove my decision• Why a call-up didn't save the value• What I'd do differently — and what I'm buying insteadBe honest in the comments: what's the one card purchase YOU regret the most? 👇If this saved you from a bad buy, hit like and subscribe for more real talk on the hobby — the wins and the losses.#SportsCards #WalkerJenkins #Bowman #TheHobby #BaseballCards #Prospecting #CardCollecting #MinnesotaTwins
I Sold These GOAT Rookie Cards Too Early (Tom Brady, LeBron James, Stephen Curry)
2026/09/10
I sold my Tom Brady, LeBron James and Stephen Curry rookie cards, and looking at prices now, I apparently sold way too early. In this episode I break down what cards I let go of, what those cards are selling for now, and overall thoughts on how the market is running hot with almost every card going up (and what I'm doing now). This isn't a "never sell" podcast. It's about being honest that a rising market makes every sale look smart in the moment, and how to think it through before you let a card go.Cards in this video:- 2009-10 Topps #321 Stephen Curry (BGS 8.5)- 2003 Topps Chrome #111 LeBron James (PSA 8)- 2000 Bowman #236 Tom Brady (BGS 8.5)I track every card, what I paid all-in, and what I actually cleared on each sale with My Card Inventory, the tool I'm building for collectors. After building 10K Card Journey through blog posts, podcasts, videos, and many hours in the sports card hobby, I’ve decided to officially move on from the project.
In this final episode, I talk about why I’m shutting down 10K Card Journey, what I learned from the experience, and why I’ve decided to focus fully on a new niche I believe has long-term potential: tennis cards.
I’ll also introduce my new project, Tennis Card Collective — a platform dedicated to tennis card collecting, education, and building one of the largest selections of tennis card singles available online.
Whether you’ve followed 10K Card Journey from the beginning or just recently discovered the content, I truly appreciate all of the support along the way.

The Economy vs. The Hobby: Could a Slowdown Impact Sports Cards?
2026/03/10
📩 Subscribe to my newsletter for deals, insights, and hobby thoughts: 10kcardjourney.beehiiv.com
In this episode, I explore how broader economic trends can influence the sports card market — even if nothing about the cards themselves has changed.
Sports cards may feel like their own world, but they’re still part of a larger economy. When consumer spending tightens or financial conditions change, it can affect how collectors buy, sell, and value cards.
This episode isn’t about predicting a crash or telling anyone what to do — it’s simply about encouraging collectors to think about the bigger picture and how macroeconomic factors could influence the hobby.
As always, this is just my personal perspective as I document my own journey building a sports card portfolio with a $10K starting budget.
From COMC to PSA: A Likely 6-Month Experiment
2026/03/05
📩 Subscribe to my newsletter for deals, insights, and hobby thoughts: 10kcardjourney.beehiiv.com
In this episode of 10K Card Journey, I talk about a recent opportunity I had to pick up a couple of cards on COMC that I’ve been really interested in.
Rather than having them shipped to me first, I decided to try something a little different — sending them directly from COMC to PSA for grading.
Now the waiting game begins.
In about six months we’ll find out whether this turns into a great investment, an average one, or a lesson learned. Either way, it’s part of the process of experimenting, learning, and trying to find value in the sports card market.
In this episode I talk about:
Why I liked these particular cards
Why COMC can be an interesting place to find deals
The strategy behind buying raw cards with grading in mind
Why sometimes the best outcome is simply the learning experience
No matter how this one turns out, it’s all part of the journey.
My Favorite Tools in the Hobby + Why Rising Box Prices Are Frustrating Collectors

In this episode, I talk about some of my favorite tools that help me navigate the sports card hobby.
But I also dive into a topic that many collectors have been feeling lately: the rapid increase in box prices. As products become more expensive, the gap between the cost of a box and the value collectors actually receive is starting to leave many people feeling unsettled.

How to Use Comps to Your Advantage on eBay (Buying & Selling Tips)
2026/03/01
In this episode of 10KCardJourney, I break down how I use comps when buying and selling sports cards on eBay.
I share how to think about comps strategically, when to lean on them, when to ignore them, and how to use them to your advantage depending on whether you’re buying or selling.
I also touch on additional eBay factors that can impact pricing and understanding when you actually have pricing power.
Factors That Increase a Card’s Appeal for Me
2026/02/28
In this episode, I walk through the specific attributes that enhance the value of a card in my eyes — beyond just grade.
From serial number significance (1/xx, jersey match, bookends) to patch quality, autograph execution, production year context, and visual elements like color match, these are some of the smaller tangible factors I personally look for.
True ROI in Sports Cards: Breaking Down One Real Sale
2026/02/28
In this episode of 10K Card Journey, I break down a recent sports card sale from start to finish — including the purchase price, sale price, shipping costs, platform fees, and what I actually walked away with.
What looked like a big win at first turned into a much smaller profit once the real numbers came in.
If you're flipping cards or tracking your portfolio seriously, understanding true ROI is everything. This episode is a reminder that gross profit and net profit are two very different things in the hobby.
