In this special episode of Beneath the Page, Steve Couch turns the tables on Sophie Beal and sits down to chat with her and editor-at-large, Gary Dalkin, for a conversation about Cadence Publishing - it's why, how and therefore! The three of them also discuss the unseen work behind a book: shaping manuscripts, refining voice, balancing creative integrity with commercial reality, and building a publishing list with intention. They discuss what editing really means, introducing Christian voices to a secular market, how to know when a book is ready, and why clear vision matters more than ever in today’s crowded marketplace. And there's an exclusive reveal of the cover of their next book, Clouds Over Bowland by Rosemary Sturge. A thoughtful look at publishing from the inside - and at the craft that lies beneath the finished page. Join Sophie and Steve as we sit down with author Andreina Cordani to explore her great new novel, A Scrooge Mystery. We dive into Dickens’ legacy, the power of fiction to confront social injustice, and why ghost stories belong at Christmas. Andreina also tackles one of literature’s biggest questions: does pure evil exist? She knows some fascinating stuff about the origin of our celebrations. Did we say that after we'd booked her, the New York Times jumped on the bandwagon and gave her last book, just out in the US a great review? Also she was nominated for a CWA Whodunnit Crime Dagger Award. Just saying we bring you the best.
