What’s the Deal with Baby Food? History of Starting Solids, Allergies & Baby-Led Weaning (Pt. 1)
2026/10/22
Starting solids is supposed to be fun, so why is everyone so stressed? In Part 1 of our solids series, we dig into how “baby food” became SUCH a thing. The evolution of "baby food," trends, timing, allergens and changing recommendations. We talk about the truly unhinged vintage advertisements including one about giving a newborn a bottle of apple juice. Spoiler: a lot of the advice our moms got came from marketing, not research.
Taylor also shares an update on her daughter’s allergy journey: the reaction that started it, a skin prick test, and what she learned from a dietitian and an allergist that she wishes she’d known the first time around.
We also cover:
How the recommended age for starting solids swung back and forth over the last century, the WHO says six months, why do some advise 4-6 months? What baby-led weaning actually is (and why “weaning” doesn’t mean what Americans think it means)Why you don’t have to pick purees OR baby-led weaningWhy solids aren’t about calories at first, so take the pressure off (and no, solids aren't going to make your baby sleep better)Gagging vs. choking, and why a baby’s gag reflex sits further forward in the mouth
Part 2 drops next week with your questions and the how-to of actually doing solids.
This episode is for education and conversation, not medical advice. Talk to your pediatrician or an allergist about your baby’s specific needs, especially if you’ve seen a reaction.

Baby Registries: Girl, You Don’t Need That & the 4 Products We Both Used Postpartum
2026/10/15
Girl, you don’t need that. Wipe warmers, bottle warmers, 10-ounce bottles, and seven hooded baby towels. This week we’re going through the registry regrets you sent us, and we reflect on the mistakes we made too.
Starting with a quick reality check on postpartum scales, comparison, and the endless sleep content behind paywalls (spoiler: there’s no silver bullet). Then we get into the most-regretted registry items, from bottle sampler boxes and Diaper Genies to disposable nipple pads and electric nail buffers.
Natasha also shares her lactation advice on choosing bottles: the triangle test, why you want the slowest-flow nipple, and how paced bottle feeding helps protect breastfeeding.
Then we get into the only 4 products we both used & could agree were actually worth purchasing (and repurchasing) and loved through both postpartums: the Haakaa, the Ergo Embrace, the Solly Baby wrap, and the My Breast Friend pillow.
We wrap up by auditing a listener’s real registry and making the case for group gifts and funds for what matters most: car seats, strollers, housekeeping, meal support, postpartum doulas, and lactation support.
No judgment, just your seasoned mom friends with two kids sharing our wins & regrets.
Thank you to Haakaa for sponsoring this episode! We’ve used the Haakaa through both of our postpartums. The Gen 2 has a spill guard (aka toddler guard) and a comfier flange! Use code MOMSPOD20 on Amazon for 20% off.

Breastfeeding Moms & Bottle Refusal: Why Does It Happen? How To Avoid It + Troubleshooting
2026/10/08
Baby won't take a bottle? You're not alone, and your baby isn't "confused." This week Taylor and Natasha dig into bottle refusal: why it's so common, what the limited research actually says, and why babies who reject bottles have a preference, not a problem.
We get into:
- Bottle refusal tips that may actually help
- Why "nipple confusion" is an outdated term
- Going back to work with a bottle-refusing baby, and why more paid maternity leave would help moms more than fancy pumping rooms
- Tongue ties: when a release actually makes sense, the risks, and what to do when providers disagree
- The dark history of baby bottles (yes, "murder bottles" were real) and how unregulated the baby industry still is
If you're in the thick of bottle refusal right now: solidarity. It's hard, and also it's temporary - you will get through this!

Toddler Food & TTC: Chemical Pregnancies and the Two-Week Wait
2026/10/01
We sat on the couch for three hours and had a lot to say. Grab your reheated coffee.
We start with a hot take on toddler food: I refuse my 4 year old to be in charge of eating, because he would either not eat, or would only eat dessert. We talk about picky eaters, family rules, dessert as a reward, skipping snack culture, and why we think mealtime has become overcomplicated.
Then we get into tongue ties. Every human has a frenulum, and that's normal. We talk about why we think tongue tie releases have become dare I say... trendy and overdiagnosed, and when a release is actually worth considering.
From there, we dive into the average trying to conceive (TTC) journey, separate from infertility and IVF, which we'll save for another conversation. We cover:
Chemical pregnancies: what they are, why the term feels dismissive, and Taylor's honeymoon storyWhy a sperm test for the male partner should be step one (also, no saunas or jacuzzis)The two-week wait, and why every symptom feels like both pregnancy and PMS, and the anxiety and stress it can causeWhy "try for a year" feels like frustrating adviceSeed cycling, acupuncture, warm-womb Ayurvedic practices, and the acupuncturist who burped on NatashaTracking ovulation affordably with LH strips and free apps
Plus pelvic floor PT, perineal massage, shaving before birth, the American sleep obsession, and a detour into aliens.
We're a lactation counselor and a childbirth educator, not doctors. Always talk to your provider about your own specific journey, this is never medical advice.

Trying To Conceive: Miracles, Miscarriages, IVF & Psychics (Part 1)
2026/09/24
⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode discusses miscarriage, pregnancy loss, infertility, and IVF in detail. Please take care while listening.
This week we're diving into TTC (trying to conceive) stories submitted by YOU, covering everything from secondary infertility and chemical miscarriages to PCOS, endometriosis, predatory fertility clinics, and yes... a TikTok psychic who called it exactly right.
Before we get into the submissions, we talk about why we're approaching this topic differently this time around (RIP to our old TTC episode — we've grown), the generational shift in how differently our moms' generation approached conception, and the predatory side of the fertility industry that nobody talks about enough.
Then we get into your stories — the hard ones, the miraculous ones, and the ones that will make you cry happy tears. This is Part 1 of 2, so stay tuned for round two where we get into some of the witchy myths and old wives' tales surrounding conception.
As always — we are not fertility experts. We're just two moms talking about our own experiences, our community's experiences, and what we've learned along the way.

Baby Number 2: Pregnancy Insomnia, Birth Plans, Breastfeeding & Solids
2026/09/17
Taylor flies solo this week (Natasha's in Hawaii fresh off her IBCLC exam!) to talk through six months postpartum with baby #2 — and how different round two feels from round one. She gets into why she switched from a planned home birth to a hospital birth after developing severe pregnancy insomnia and anxiety in her third trimester, what co-care with a midwife postpartum looked like, and why she thinks postpartum care is one of the biggest gaps in the U.S. medical system.
Plus: a breastfeeding and solids Q&A (including the choking-vs-gagging distinction every parent should know), surviving newborn car rides, "mommy wrist" nobody warns you about, date night as an exclusively breastfeeding mom, bonding differences with a second baby, and why she thinks the newborn-to-toddler transition is easier the second time around.

Making Mom Friends & Figuring Out WTF to Feed Your Kids
2026/09/10
This week Taylor and Natasha kick things off by celebrating Natasha finishing her IBCLC exam (and surviving the intense study season that came with it), then dive into the messy reality of mom friendships — why your friend group naturally shrinks once you become a mom, how to actually make new mom friends, why low-effort friendships are a must, and why being the first mom in your friend group is its own special kind of hard. They also unpack the stay-at-home-mom vs. working-mom label debate and why it's time to drop the titles altogether.
They get into a discussion about how convenience has changed parenting, a recent glamping trip, and letting kids sit with a little discomfort instead of solving every inconvenience instantly. They also touch on mom-influencer culture and the pressure of "toxic positivity" online. Then it's on to feeding kids: a permission slip to stop stressing about "aesthetic" school lunches, why it's fine to pack the same thing every day if your kid will actually eat it, navigating a new classroom, and the truth about starting solids and what it does (and doesn't) do to your milk supply.
Plus, rapid-fire listener questions covering: feral toddler poop stories, a diaper-ad hot take, surviving the final weeks of pregnancy, due-date mindset, the Elf on the Shelf debate, a very fresh TMI postpartum moment, sibling age gaps, nursing dreams, getting back to date nights, and how (or whether) to get the dads to be friends too.

Baby Sleep Talk Part 2: Answering Your Questions - Naps, Dream Feeds, Night Feeds & Weaning
2026/09/03
Part 2 is here! After last week's deep dive into sleep training methods, temperament, and motherhood guilt, Natasha and Taylor are back to answer your submitted questions on baby and toddler sleep — no filter, no judgment, just two moms sharing what actually worked (and didn't) for them.
In this episode, they cover:
Does formula really help babies sleep longer than breast milk? Dream feeds — what they are, when they work, and when they backfireNight weaning: does it actually fix night waking? Why "sleeping through the night" means something different for every babyShort naps, contact naps, and why "crappy naps" might not be crappy at allGetting babies used to sleeping with grandparents, caregivers, or on the goSafe sleep basics: tummy sleeping, blankets, pillows, and what to actually worry aboutBedtime with a toddler and an infant at the same time (it's chaos, and that's okay)Co-sleeping, floor beds, and why "separate beds" might save your marriageThe guilt spiral around sleep — and why comparison is the thief of peace
This is Part 2 of a two-part series. If you haven't listened to Part 1 — Baby Sleep Talk: Sleep Training Methods, Temperament & Motherhood Guilt — start there first.

Baby Sleep Talk: Sleep Training Methods, Temperament, and Motherhood Guilt
2026/08/27
Sleep is the Wild Wild West of parenting advice — and this week, Natasha and Taylor are diving in headfirst. They get real about their own sleep training experiences (the wins, the regrets, and everything in between), why "drowsy but awake" doesn't work for most babies, and why sleep isn't a finish line but a developmental milestone, that is not linear, and develops over years.
In this episode, they cover:
Cry it out, Ferber, and why the lines between sleep methods are blurry & a hot topicWhy temperament — not feeding type, not method — might be the biggest factor in how your baby sleepsThe studies behind infant night waking and what the research actually says (and doesn't say)Wake windows, nap schedules, and why rigid timing may not workThe guilt spiral around sleep training — and why "is this normal?" deserves a real answer, not a blanket ruleNight help, cultural differences in co-sleeping, and why asking for support isn't a luxury
This is Part 1 of a two-part series — tune in next Thursday for Part 2, where we answer your submitted questions.

Postpartum Confessions: Baby Sleep, Bottle Refusal, Separation Anxiety, Scary Toddlers
2026/08/20
This week Taylor and Natasha get real about the messy, unfiltered parts of motherhood — starting with a flight-from-hell travel story that has them questioning airline policy for parents flying solo with toddlers. They dig into bottle refusal and why it's more common (and less talked about) than people think, plus what it means for moms heading back to work. They also cover postpartum hair loss — including why it happens to an estimated 90% of postpartum moms — and its surprising links to postpartum anxiety and insomnia.
Also on the table: surviving the first week of back-to-school separation anxiety, toddler car seat meltdowns, pacifier weaning struggles, and their take on the Anne Hathaway pregnancy bump backlash. As always, it's evidence-informed, honest, and two moms figuring it out in real time.
Topics covered: bottle refusal, postpartum hair loss, 4-month sleep regression, toddler separation anxiety, back-to-school transitions, co-sleeping to crib transition, toddler tantrums, pacifier weaning, postpartum body image, mom friendships

My Positive Elective Induction & Epidural Birth Story: Reflections for Expecting Moms
2026/08/13
Taylor's out this week (she's in Hawai'i for a friend's wedding 🌺), so Natasha is flying solo to share her first birth story — from a hyperemesis gravidarum pregnancy through weeks of prodromal labor, an elective 39-week induction, Cytotec, Pitocin, an epidural at 5cm, and a sunny-side-up baby who needed to be flipped before pushing.
In this episode, Natasha covers:
What hyperemesis gravidarum actually is (and how it was mismanaged for her)Weeks of prodromal labor and why does no one warn you about it??How an "elective induction" scheduling actually works (spoiler: it's not really scheduled)The Cytotec → Pitocin → epidural timelineGetting flipped by nurses on hands and knees (baby was sunny-side up)Postpartum pain after an epidural birth vs. her later unmedicated birthEarly breastfeeding struggles that pushed her toward becoming a lactation consultantHer honest answer to "would you choose induction again?"
This is a positive birth story — not a scary one!!

Hot Mom Summer: Sick While Nursing, Lap Infants & Nursery Regrets
2026/08/06
It's giving hot takes. This week Taylor and Natasha get into everything that makes summer with kids chaotic — starting with what actually happens when you're sick while breastfeeding (and what over-the-counter meds can do to your supply). Natasha breaks down the real hierarchy of allergy meds for nursing moms, and how nobody talks about milk supply the way they talk about baby safety.
Then: Natasha got her palm read at a 4th of July carnival and asked if she should have a third kid. The answer? Not exactly reassuring. We get into it.
Plus — travel season hot takes: lap infant age cutoff at age 2, why nursing chairs is one of the biggest scams in baby gear, and we are preparing you for the reality of road-tripping or flying with babies & toddlers.
And in momTALK: a mother-in-law shows up two days postpartum with a very bold request about the baby's name.
Grab your reheated coffee and get comfy — this one's a ride. 🎧💬 Share this with your group chat, or any mom who needs it.
See you next Thursday on the couch.

🩺 What partners should watch during labor — and what to look away from

Epidurals & The Cascade of Birth Interventions: What You Can Control
2026/07/16
70%+ women in the U.S. get the epidural during childbirth. This week we're breaking down the "cascade of interventions": the risks that don't show up on the standard epidural risk list, and what you can actually do about them. We talk dosage and timing, movement, IV fluids, immediate skin-to-skin, and why informed consent — not "natural vs. medicated" — is the real goal. Plus: a hot take on the "your baby is huge" induction scare and the stats on the margin of error on those ultrasounds.
We cover:
- What's actually on ACOG's epidural risk list vs. what's correlated but rarely discussed
- Dosage and timing: why when you get the epidural changes your birth trajectory
- Movement and positioning tips with an epidural and why it matters- Why immediate skin-to-skin matters for breastfeeding and postpartum recovery
- How IV fluids can affect newborn weight loss, swelling, and early latch
- A listener question on "big baby" induction scares - and the real margin of error on ultrasound weight estimates
This episode isn't about whether you should or shouldn't get an epidural - it's about informed consent. If you want one, here's how to make choices along the way that align with what actually matters to you.
