Is ESPN Creating SEC Bias? These 6 AP Poll Stats Are INSANE
2026/09/30
Is ESPN's college football coverage helping create an SEC bias in the AP Top 25? I went through the numbers, and I found six statistical anomalies from the 2025 and 2026 college football seasons that I think deserve a much bigger conversation. We're talking about BYU's historic ranking at 11-1, two undefeated Power Four teams meeting while neither is ranked, the SEC making up 40% of the AP Top 25, Florida making one of the biggest jumps in years, the lack of G6 teams in the rankings, and the SEC's unusual net movement following ranked matchups. Does this prove there's some secret conspiracy among AP voters? No — and that's not what I'm arguing. My argument is that the enormous amount of national attention surrounding the SEC could influence the way teams and conferences are perceived by voters and college football fans. In this episode of First and 16, I break down the numbers and explain why I believe the relationship between national media coverage, conference perception and the AP Top 25 deserves more scrutiny.
Do these numbers show SEC bias? Or is there another explanation? Drop your take in the comments. Subscribe to First and 16 for college football news, Big 12 coverage, rankings, conference realignment and analysis.

Introducing What If the Treatment Is Making You Worse? | Laura Delano & Blake Mycoskie from No Magic Pill with Blake Mycoskie.
Follow the show: No Magic Pill with Blake Mycoskie
At 13, Laura Delano was told she had an incurable mental illness and would need psychiatric medication to manage it. What followed were years of diagnoses, hospitalizations, multiple medications, and a worsening mental health crisis.
In this episode of No Magic Pill, Blake Mycoskie sits down with Unshrunk author Laura Delano to explore the question that ultimately changed the course of her life: What if it wasn’t treatment-resistant mental illness? What if the treatment itself was part of the problem?
Drawing from Laura’s two-decade journey and Blake’s own experience with a bipolar II diagnosis and psychiatric medication, they explore physical dependence and withdrawal, the risks of tapering too quickly, informed decision-making, and what can happen when we look beyond a diagnosis to understand the deeper context behind our suffering.
This isn’t a conversation about being for or against medication. It’s about agency, curiosity, and asking better questions about our mental health—including one that reframed Laura’s own journey: instead of only asking “What’s wrong with me?” what if we also asked “What happened to me?”
Because sometimes healing begins not with another quick fix, but with understanding what our pain has been trying to tell us.
No quick fixes. No shortcuts. No Magic Pill.

Conference Realignment is BACK!? How the Save College Sports Act Changes Everything
2026/09/29
The Save College Sports Act just took a major step forward — and it could have MASSIVE implications for college football realignment.
With a proposed 20-team cap for power conferences, could the SEC and Big Ten expand again? What happens to the ACC? Could the Big 12 benefit? And could schools like Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame, Miami, Boise State, Oregon State and Washington State eventually be involved?
On this episode of First and 16, I break down three potential paths for the future of college football and why conference realignment could be far from finished.
Topics:
• Save College Sports Act
• College football realignment
• SEC expansion
• Big Ten expansion
• Big 12 expansion
• ACC realignment
• 20-team conferences
• Clemson & Florida State
• Notre Dame

Reality Check: Week 4 Will Tell us Who is For Real in the Big 12
2026/09/26
Week 4 is upon us and for the most part, we still don't know how good every team really is in the Big 12, and around college football. That will all change on Saturday when we get massive matchups that will seperate the contenders from the pretenders.
Everyone Is WRONG About Big 12 Football
2026/09/22
Is the Big 12 really having a bad season?
The numbers tell a very different story. The Big 12 has undefeated teams, multiple programs near the top of the AP Poll, major nonconference wins and considerably more depth than it's getting credit for nationally. In this episode of First and 16, I break down why the narrative surrounding the Big 12 doesn't match what's actually happening on the field. From BYU, Utah and Texas Tech to Oklahoma State's huge win over Oregon and West Virginia's ranked victory, it's time to take another look at the Big 12. Subscribe to First and 16 for Big 12 and college football coverage all season long.
10 Reasons Why the AP Poll Is RIGGED Week 4: Preseason Bias Helps the SEC
2026/09/22
The latest AP Top 25 is out, and the preseason rankings are STILL having a major impact on college football. LSU loses and stays in the Top 10. Texas A&M loses at home to Kentucky but remains ranked ahead of the Wildcats. West Virginia beats a ranked Virginia team and stays unranked, while Mississippi State enters the Top 25 after beating an unranked South Carolina. And now TEN SEC teams make up 40% of the entire AP Top 25. In this episode of First and 16, Adam breaks down 10 problems with the latest AP Poll, how preseason rankings create "poll inertia," why ranked SEC matchups can become self-perpetuating, and how all of this could eventually impact the College Football Playoff. Is the SEC really this dominant—or are preseason expectations still shaping the rankings? 5 Teams the SEC Could Add if LSU Gets Kicked Out
2026/09/09
Could LSU actually be kicked out of the SEC — and if it happens, who replaces the Tigers?
The possibility of LSU leaving the SEC could create another massive wave of college football conference realignment. On today's First and 16, Adam Gibby breaks down five programs that could make sense as potential SEC replacements.
Could Florida State or Clemson finally make the jump from the ACC? Could the SEC raid the Big 12 for Texas Tech or Oklahoma State? And could former SEC member Tulane be the ultimate dark-horse candidate?
PLUS: What if LSU doesn't need another conference at all? Could LSU go independent — or even make the unthinkable move to the Big Ten and trigger another nationwide realignment domino effect?

Big 12 Week 1 PANIC METER: Who's Already in Trouble?
2026/09/08
Week 1 is in the books for the Big 12 — and some teams already have reasons to PANIC.
On today's First and 16, Adam Gibby ranks all 16 Big 12 teams based on how their fanbases should feel compared to preseason expectations.
Colorado, Kansas State, Cincinnati, Arizona State and UCF came out of Week 1 feeling GREAT.
But Texas Tech, Baylor, Houston and West Virginia showed some concerning signs — while TCU and Oklahoma State may already be watching their preseason expectations disappear.
Who exceeded expectations? Who simply took care of business? And which Big 12 teams should be hitting the panic button?
