Welcome to Playsongs Playtime, a joyous five minutes of guided interactive play with your baby or toddler. Each episode introduces one short playrhyme and one short playsong, and guides you through playing with them - right now in the moment - or tucked away and played again and again later. Our aim is to bring playsongs and playrhymes to life for you and your little one - so you can enjoy the participatory action to the full. Babies and toddlers have chuckled and laughed through action play with their grown ups since play began - and they learn so much from it - language development, physical development, bonding, communication and interaction. But best of all, it’s fun - a few moments of precious, total engagement just with you. Basing each episode on the much-loved Playsongs books and audio, presenter and author, Sheena Roberts, is joined by Playsongs People musicians, Sandra Kerr, Leon Rosselson, Janet Russell, Kevin Graal, Steve Grocott, Nancy Kerr, James Fagan, and Debbie Sanders who sing and play the songs with us. You’ll find peekaboo games, knee-bouncers, tickle rhymes, joyous lifts, sound explorers, and soothers - each one tried, tested and voted great by baby gurgles and toddler giggles. 11. A Teddy, a Snail and a Mouse, and a Search for Tickles

The first episode of our second series begins with the beloved classic Round and Round the Garden – a tickling game that's been delighting babies and toddlers since teddies began. Watch your little one's face light up as the anticipation builds with each circle around their palm before that magical tickle moment arrives! Then we'll slow things down (and speed things up!) with Slowly Slowly Quickly Quickly, featuring a creeping snail's gentle journey that transforms into a playful mouse's scampering tickles. These simple interactive games are perfect for developing your child's sense of rhythm and anticipation, and for bringing an extra sparkle to those precious moments of quality time together. No props needed – just your hands and a ready smile.

12. Say Hello to Tommy Thumb

Hands up! We’ve got five people to introduce to you and your baby or toddler with our playrhyme, Tommy Thumb. It’s a very old fingerplay with a very big handful of play-learning to offer - it’s about having a conversation, it’s about taking turns, it’s about saying hello, it’s about finger awareness, and as your little one grows, it’s about developing finger dexterity and coordination. And we'd also like to introduce you to our playsong, Say Hello, which can turn its hand to beeping noses, patting knees, and tapping toes, being a mouse, a cat…. Oh - and it can wave, and say, Hello! Endless possibilities for action play with your little one. No props needed – just hands, and five minutes free for interactive fun.

13. The daring ups and downs of Five Little Froggies and a flight of Bumblebees

Roll up, roll up with your baby or toddler for a thrill-filled five minutes of ups and downs and flying around in this episode of Playsongs Playtime. Our playrhyme, Bumblebees, has your little one flying up in the breeze, and our playsong, Five Little Froggies, has them perilously leaping high and low, to and fro. Lots of up and down actions and lifts with up and down words and sounds. Dance the teeniest tiny ones in your arms, bounce a bigger baby high and low on your knee, or join in with your toddler doing the whole body actions. No circus skills needed. 14. Jelly on the Plate and One Two Three A-leary: Bounces, Tricks and Wobbles

We’ve borrowed two playground games, Jelly on the Plate, and One Two Three A-leary, to give you and your baby or toddler an episode brim full of knee-bouncing fun. The outdoor skipping and bouncing tricks we played as kids with these two games, turn themselves nicely into indoor thrills for your little one, bouncing on your knee. No skipping ropes required. 15. Walk Tall and Fly High with One to Make Ready and Miss Mary Mac

Swing a toddler up and along with One to make ready. Or hold your toddler’s hand as they tight-rope their way along a wall with Miss Mary Mac. These two out-and-about leg walkers are especially good for reviving a tired toddler, but you can just as easily play them indoors with a baby on your knee. We’ll show you how.  No walls, horses, elephants, or wings required ~ just five minutes free for some happy interactive play in this episode of Playsongs Playtime.

16. Dance Off to the Park with Grandpa, and Go Round the Sun with Sally

We're going Off to the Park with Grandpa – dancing your baby or toddler all the way. And before you catch your breath, we'll whirl you both off again with Sally go Round the Sun. Hold hands with your toddler to support their free-styling footwork. Dandle a bigger baby on your knee, or dance with your baby supported against your shoulder, where they can feel the beat through you.  Parks, birthday picnics, and a bunch or friends are great for these two dances, but indoors is just as good for dancing them ~ so take your little partner in your arms and let’s dance in this episode of Playsongs Playtime.

17. A Spoonful of Sweet Potatoes

We’ve a delicious musical menu of interactive play for you and your baby or toddler in this episode of Playsongs Playtime. For a tempting starter we have our playrhyme, Spoons, and for our main course we have our playsong, Sweet Potatoes. This is mealtime fun you can have together even before your baby’s weaned. No time too soon to tap a tune on a spoon. Our 5-minute guided play session is a perfect takeaway of feeding games for you and your little one, whether they’re too little to hold a spoon yet, or they’re learning to feed themselves and developing fine motor skills in their fingers through manipulating their spoon. Enjoy the meal!

18. Splish Splash Splosh

Pop a pretend soap bubble on baby’s nose with our playrhyme, Bubble, and for the serious business of getting baby bathed, we have our playsong, Splish Splash Splosh, in this episode of Playsongs Playtime. Our 5-minute guided interactive play session is a perfect companion to a pretend bath or a real bath. So here’s the soap to wash your hands, now blow a big bubble and see where it lands! Pop!

19. Rocking the Golden Boat Merrily Down the Stream

We’re rocking you and your little one over the silvery sea in our playrhyme, The Golden Boat, and with our playsong, Rock Rock Rock my Boat. Both games support that stage in a little baby’s development, when they’re preparing themselves to manage that rollover from lying on their back to lying on their front. And these games work in different ways for your bigger baby or toddler just as enjoyably. We’ll show you how. So find a comfy, warm bit of floor to sit on, join hands and rock rock rock….  

20. Lullaby Horses for Sleepy Babies

Snuggle your baby or toddler close, while you softly lull them into sleepiness with our foot-patting rhyme, Shoe a Little Horse. Then sing or hum them to sleep with the hauntingly beautiful old lullaby, All the Pretty Little Horses. Lullabies are as much a comfort for ourselves, as they are for our little ones. On one of those sleep-deprived nights, we can soothe ourselves through the desperate stretches of wakefulness, clock aware, calculating how much time we might just manage to sleep ourselves before the day starts all over again with all its demands and commitments. But ‘When you wake, you shall have a cake, and all the pretty little horses.’ Sweet dreams.

1. Yours Mine Face Touchers

Two close up 'yours' 'mine' face touchers to play with your baby or toddler. Face to face fun with Eye Winker, and Cheeky Cheeky Chin. Play right now or tuck them away for after baby's feed, when you’re getting your toddler’s face washed, or they're just cuddled up on your knee.

2. Peekaboo!

Two peekaboo games to play with your baby or toddler. They love the anticipation. They’re listening, they’re waiting, then... Boo! There you are again. Join us as we play Peeketty Peeketty, and Here Sits a Teddy on Your Knee. Great fun.

3. Tickle Mice

Two little tickle rhymes featuring friendly mice - There was a Little Mouse, and Mousey Brown - are great little teasers to give baby a giggle while you're relaxing together, or to give you an instant distraction to help baby out of a moment of distress.

4. Jumping Jacks

Here are two joyous jumps to give you both a laugh. In the rhyme Jack Be Nimble, there’s a glorious skyward lift. In Jack-in-the-Box, there are whole body actions for toddlers and down and up lifts for a baby.

5. Knee Bouncers

An old Irish knee bouncer, Achinaee, with a surprise slide, and Three Little Monkeys Bouncing on the Bed provide us with five minutes of hilarious, shared knee-time play.
