Can someone who's cast out demons still be rejected by Jesus?  What does it actually mean for a Christian's day-to-day living when Jesus says His way is "hard"?  How can you make sure you're standing on a firm foundation that won't crumble under the storms of life?  These are some of the final questions Jesus addresses as He closes out the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 7:13-29.  Here Jesus shows us His powerful authority as a teacher, giving us insight into how to walk the way of righteousness and wisdom.  And what He teaches us to do... is to stand firm in Him.  In this episode, you'll discover...  Why just doing great things (and saying they're for God) doesn't mean someone genuinely belongs to Christ  How to spot wolves in sheep's clothing (before they lead you astray)  Why having your firm foundation in Christ means you can withstand anything that comes your way  Scripture passages and verses referenced:  Matthew 7:13-29  1 Corinthians 13  Philippians 3  Hebrews 6  John 14:23  Jeremiah 7  1 John 3:20  Psalm 1  Psalm 31:8  Psalm 16:6  Matthew 6  Matthew 7:1, 7  About Know God Deeply:  This podcast is produced by Precept. You might have a log in your eye right now and not even realize it... So what can you do about it? What you'll find is that judgmentalism is a very real danger that can poison our hearts as believers... ...and that through prayer, your good and faithful Father brings very real provision to meet your needs. Doesn't it sometimes just seem impossible NOT to feel like a hypocrite? It's so easy to fall into doing the right things but for the wrong reasons. But Jesus has strong words to say against those who do "spiritual" things like giving, praying, and fasting just for show. Join us as we dive into what Jesus says about living authentically as His followers... Because the reality is, we don't need to be recognized by people for the things we do in this life. After all, the rewards our Heavenly Father gives are of infinitely more value than any recognition the world could ever offer! How can we POSSIBLY live up to Jesus' expectations? After all, as He preached to the people He said to cut off your hand if it causes you to sin. He also said if you just lust after someone, you're an adulterer at heart. He even said to be "perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." So is the Christian life just a hopeless cycle of striving after an impossible standard... and failing? In today's episode, we continue to unpack Jesus' shocking words to the crowds in the Sermon on the Mount. And we see that Jesus isn't looking for His followers to just check all the boxes and follow the letter of the law... He's looking to transform your heart. In this episode, you'll discover... ·       Why Jesus used the shocking imagery of cutting off your hand and tearing out your eye! ·       Why it's so vital to go beyond just fixing external behaviors and get to the heart ·       What Jesus means when He says to be "perfect" Scripture passages and verses referenced: ·       Matthew 5:17-48 ·       Romans 10:4 About Know God Deeply: This podcast is produced by Precept. Jesus sat down on a mountainside, His disciples gathered close, and He began what we know as the Sermon on the Mount. He did not open with rules. He opened with blessings. Blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who mourn. Blessed are the meek. One after another, Jesus described the kind of people who belong to the Kingdom of God, and it looked nothing like the world's picture of a good life. Then He said something just as surprising: you are the salt of the earth, and the light of the world. The people shaped by these blessings are not meant to blend in. Their good works are meant to shine before others so that their Father in heaven is glorified. This season on the Know God Deeply Podcast, we are reading through the Sermon on the Mount together, from the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 to the wise builder in Matthew 7. Across six episodes, we slow down and observe the text for ourselves, listening for what Jesus reveals about life in His Kingdom and the kind of followers He calls us to be. Episode 1 opens in Matthew 5:1-16. Grab your Bible and discover what it means to be blessed, and to live as salt and light. Jesus once sat down on a mountainside and preached the most famous sermon the world has ever heard. In it, He showed us what life in the Kingdom of God actually looks like, and what kind of people God calls His followers to be. In the new season of the Know God Deeply podcast, we're reading through the Sermon on the Mount together, from the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 to the wise builder in Matthew 7. In Genesis 22, God tests Abraham with the hardest command imaginable: take your son, your only son Isaac, the son of promise, and offer him as a burnt offering. Abraham rises early the next morning and sets out. Across a three-day journey and a silent climb up the mountain, Scripture records no protest and no bargaining, only obedience. At the last moment, with the knife raised, God stops him and provides a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. Abraham names the place Jehovah Jireh, "the Lord will provide." The name carries the sense of "the Lord will see to it." God gives exactly what is needed, exactly when it is needed, and not a moment sooner. That is the wonder of this name. Three times Abraham answers, "Here I am," to God and to his son, the words of a man who knows God's voice and is ready to obey. And the whole account points forward. God does not ask of us anything He would not do Himself. He gave His own Son, the Lamb He provided in our place. Join us on the Know God Deeply podcast as we dig into Genesis 22:1–14 and explore what the name Jehovah Jireh reveals about God's provision, His perfect timing, and the obedience of faith. You will find that God's provision and His call to obey are woven together, and that the God who sees to every need is the same God who gave you His Son. In this episode, you will discover: ·        What the name Jehovah Jireh, "the Lord will provide," reveals about God as the one who sees to every need ·        Why Abraham's threefold "Here I am" marks a man who knows God's voice and is ready to obey it ·        How God's provision and our obedience hold together, so that obedience is reception and never earning ·        Why God's timing so often comes later than we expect, even as the knife is raised ·        How the ram caught in the thicket points to Christ, the Lamb God provided in our place Scripture Passages and Verses Referenced: ·        Genesis 22:1–14 ·        Genesis 3 ·        Genesis 12 ·        Genesis 15 ·        Genesis 17 ·        Exodus 16 ·        Joshua 5 ·        Romans 8:1–11 ·        Romans 8:32 ·        Philippians 4:13 ·        Philippians 4:19 ·        Hebrews 11 About Know God Deeply: This podcast is produced by Precept. Abraham was 99 years old when God showed up and said, I will. I will make you fruitful. I will establish my covenant. I will give you a son. Abraham's response? He fell on his face and laughed. But God didn't flinch. He introduced Himself as El Shaddai — The All-Sufficient One — and then proceeded to do exactly what He said He would do. In this episode, we open Genesis 17 and explore what it looks like to trust a God whose sufficiency doesn't depend on your circumstances. Hagar didn't expect anyone to find her. Cast out. Alone. Sitting in the wilderness with nowhere to go and no one coming. But God saw her, and she was so undone by it that she gave Him a name on the spot. El Roi. The God Who Sees Me. In this episode, we open Genesis 16 and sit with Hagar's story. Not because your circumstances match hers, but because the God who met her in the wilderness is the same God who sees exactly where you are right now. Abraham had been waiting a long time. God had promised him land. Descendants. A legacy that would bless the whole world. But standing in Genesis 15, Abraham looked around at his life and asked the question a lot of us have asked: Are you sure, God? What he called God in that moment matters. He used Adonai — Master, Lord over all. It's the name you reach for when the promise feels impossible, and the timeline doesn't make  sense. In this episode, we open Genesis 15 and sit with Abraham's uncertainty. What does it look like to release control to the One who holds everything together? Moses had one question for God. Who are you? Standing at a burning bush, about to be sent on an impossible mission, Moses needed to know exactly who he was dealing with. God's answer — I AM WHO I AM — wasn't just a name. It was a declaration. The God who spoke to Moses from the fire always was, always is, and always will be. No beginning. No end. No uncertainty. In this episode, we open Exodus 3 and dig into the most personal name of God in all of Scripture: YHWH. And we ask — what does it mean to trust the God who simply is?
