Post-Vasectomy Pain: Stacey’s Story of Finding Another Piece of the Puzzle
2026/09/24
Are you still having testicular pain, urinary urgency, frequent nighttime urination, or other symptoms months—or even years—after a vasectomy? Post-vasectomy pain syndrome (PVPS) is a real problem, and pelvic floor physical therapy may be one piece of the puzzle that’s being overlooked. In this episode of Down There, I revisit a conversation with Stacy, a former patient who developed persistent left testicular pain after his 2020 vasectomy. Over time, he also began experiencing urinary urgency, nighttime frequency, and a weak urinary stream. Stacy saw multiple healthcare providers and underwent antibiotics, an ultrasound, a CT scan for suspected kidney stones, and a cystoscopy. Yet his symptoms continued. Then his urologist recommended pelvic floor physical therapy for men. Stacy shares what happened next—and what he learned about the connection between his pelvic floor, pain, urinary symptoms, and the nervous system. We talk about: • What post-vasectomy pain syndrome can look like • The connection between pelvic floor tension and testicular or pelvic pain • What a male pelvic floor physical therapy evaluation may involve • The role of stretching, breathing, mindfulness, walking, and reducing muscle tension • Breaking the anxiety–tension–pain cycle • What Stacy continues to do today to manage his symptoms • How to find a qualified pelvic floor physical therapist who works with men If you've been dealing with chronic testicular pain after a vasectomy, pelvic pain, urinary urgency, or other symptoms that haven't responded to the usual approaches, Stacy's story may give you some new things to consider. This episode is not about promising a quick fix. It's about understanding your symptoms, knowing there may be more than one piece to the puzzle, and knowing where to look for help. You don't have to just live with it. ⏱️ Timestamps: [01:03] – Stacy’s Vasectomy Story [05:50] – Symptoms and Medical Workups [07:47] – Reddit Rabbit Hole [08:21] – Starting Pelvic PT [16:56] – Tools to Break the Pain Cycle [19:26] – Mindfulness At Home [20:54] – Is There Hope [23:12] – Daily Self Care Routine [25:29] – Stretching And Breathing Basics [29:04] – Finding The Right Therapist [32:22] – Building A Men’s Health Network [34:12] – Spreading Awareness Through Referrals [36:17] – Closing And Resources 👉 Join the “What’s Up Down There” email list: https://www.pelvicconnection.com/contact 👉 Subscribe to the podcast so you don’t miss new monthly episodes 👉 Subscribe to the YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@pelvicconnection2025 👉 Send topic requests — listener questions directly shape future content Here’s to practical education, sustainable impact, and better pelvic health in 2026. 🎵 Music Credits: Original composition “Down There” by Forest Stewart ***DISCLAIMER***The content of this video, description, links, and comments, is intended for educational and informational purposes. To Kegel or Not to Kegel: Is That the Question?
2026/03/12
This episode is for everyone with a pelvis! The go-to fix for many pelvic floor issues is often “Do Kegels”. But is that really the answer? Men's pelvic health expert Laura McKaig teams up with her local colleague, Kesley Beach DPT, pregnancy/postpartum expert. Wait a minute…what does post-prostate surgery have to do with postpartum? Have a listen and find out! We’ve been wanting to do this episode together for quite some time, and it finally happened. Laura and Kelsey are coming in hot on the topic of Kegels: the truths, myths, and even the controversy surrounding this exercise. You may agree, you may disagree with our take on Kegels, or you may end up with more questions. In any case, we welcome your comments and questions!
