The San Francisco 49ers are undefeated at 6-0, but are they truly playing like Super Bowl contenders? On this episode of The Grit Code Podcast, 11-year NFL veteran and 3-time Pro Bowler Donte Whitner and Bay Area sports analyst Rod Brooks break down the 49ers' latest victory over the Washington Commanders, Brock Purdy's historic performance, Kyle Shanahan's offensive brilliance, and the defensive physicality that has San Francisco looking like a legitimate championship threat. But despite their perfect record, the 49ers have some serious questions to answer. BROCK PURDY IS SILENCING THE DOUBTERS! Purdy continues to put up historic numbers, yet critics still want to label him a system quarterback. Whitner and The Rod Father break down what makes Purdy special, why his ability to extend plays separates him from other quarterbacks, and whether we're watching the next Steve Young in San Francisco. KYLE SHANAHAN'S OFFENSE IS EXPLOSIVE... UNTIL IT ISN'T. The 49ers dominated Washington in the first half, but the offense struggled to maintain that momentum after halftime. What changed? The guys dissect Shanahan's game plan, the team's second-half struggles, and why San Francisco can't afford to keep letting opponents back into games. MIKE EVANS' ACHILLES COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING. After an explosive first-half performance, Evans was sidelined with Achilles soreness. The guys discuss just how important he has become to the 49ers offense, what his absence means for Brock Purdy, and whether San Francisco can maintain its offensive firepower without him. MALIK MUSTAFA IS BRINGING BACK OLD-SCHOOL 49ERS FOOTBALL! Donte Whitner knows a thing or two about delivering punishing hits, and he sees something special in Malik Mustafa. Alongside Fred Warner, Mustafa is bringing the kind of physicality, aggression, and intimidation that defined Whitner's playing days. Is this defense developing the attitude of the legendary 49ers teams of the past? DEFOREST BUCKNER BACK TO SAN FRANCISCO?! After expressing frustration with his situation in Indianapolis, former 49ers defensive tackle DeForest Buckner has Whitner and The Rod Father asking a massive question: Should San Francisco make a move to bring him home? Would giving up a second-round draft pick be worth it if Buckner could help deliver another Super Bowl? PLUS, the guys preview the upcoming matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, discuss the challenge of stopping Bijan Robinson, revisit the 49ers' 2019 Super Bowl run, and debate whether this undefeated team has what it takes to finish the job. Mike Evans, Trent Williams, Dre Greenlaw, Grayson Halton and Deommodore Lenoir all dealt with injuries, while the defense is already trying to figure out life without Nick Bosa. How many injuries can this roster actually survive? George Kittle puts the Superman cape back on when the receiver room gets thin, Deebo Samuel shows he’s still got the speed, and Jordan Watkins may have finally started earning the trust of Purdy and Shanahan. Then it’s over to the defense. The interior run defense continues to be a problem, Dre Greenlaw proves once again just how important he is next to Fred Warner, Grayson Halton continues to flash, and the lack of Nick Bosa raises a much bigger question: can this pass rush survive against better quarterbacks without making a move?
