The Bible Left by the Trash Cans
2026/09/23
Everything Kathleen owned was gone. Her home was sold, her son was living with his father, and she was sleeping in a truck.
Then a stranger gave her a ride to an AA meeting and talked about Jesus the whole way. She fell asleep in her chair and slept through the entire thing. That night ended in an arrest, and she calls it "the beginning of the ending."
It was hard to believe she's the same girl who was once the happiest kid in a church-going family, until her parents' divorce at eleven sent her looking for belonging in all the wrong places. By fourteen she was drinking. Years later she had a fantastic job making great money, a new home, and a new car. On paper, she had it all. But she wasn't walking with the Lord; she was too busy, and it wasn't long before it all came crashing down.
Through it all, two things never let go of her: a mom who kept showing up with prayers, and a worn-out Bible that turned up by the trash cans after everything else was taken, her grandmother's phone number still written inside.
Today, Kathleen sponsors women, serves her community, and sings her testimony on the Discovery stage. Her advice to anyone who feels too far gone: "If nothing changes, nothing changes."
Smith Sharpe's Brutally Honest Answer: 'I Could've Been a Nazi'
2026/08/25
What starts as a conversation about how humans treat each other turns into one of the most unfiltered episodes of Life Between Sundays yet. Dean sits down with Smith Sharpe and asks him something most people would never admit out loud - and Smith answers it anyway: a lifelong fear that, born in a different time and place, he might have become "a really good Nazi."
From there, the conversation goes places most podcasts won't touch. The words we say that cut deeper than broken bones. The grudges we secretly replay on a loop until they poison everything. And a candid, no-agenda conversation about abortion - including a ministry called Elizabeth's House that's trying to offer real answers instead of just opinions.
The whole conversation was sparked by a recent, tragic loss in our community - a reminder of just how high the stakes are when it comes to how we treat one another. This isn't a comfortable episode. But it might be the one that changes how you see the people around you, and yourself.
Heads up: this episode touches on sensitive topics, including violence and abortion. Listener discretion advised.
The Softball Team that Saved a Marriage
2026/08/05
Frances had a secret weapon: a Presbyterian women's prayer circle and a church softball league. Her target: a thirty-something husband with zero interest in God and a full tank of ambition. She never told Earle what she was up to. She just got him signed up to play. The first day of practice, a 6'3", 270-pound stranger named Roy Olszynowski walked up behind Earle, slapped him on the back hard enough to knock him off his feet, and said, "Welcome to the team, brother. Let me pray for you." Earle had never laid eyes on the man in his life. It was the beginning of the end of the life he'd been living. In this episode, Earle and Frances — married 52 years, still occasionally driving separate cars just to spite each other's timing — sit down with Dean for a conversation that gets surprisingly honest, surprisingly fast. They talk about the years Earle was gone Monday through Thursday and Frances was home alone with two toddlers and no family nearby. The night God spoke a warning straight into Earle's spirit: change, or lose everything you have. And the decision, decades later, to walk away from everything they'd built in Raleigh and move to Hickory to stand behind their nephew Smith as he planted a church with no money, no building, and eight couples willing to bet on it.Turn in for thoughtful conversation, humor, and real-life encouragement to help navigate the six days between Sundays - and discover how faith can transform the ordinary moments of life.
