Description

You are good at your job. You have the title, the salary, and the LinkedIn profile to prove it. And you cannot shake the feeling that you were made for something more. You have spent years building your career, developing your expertise, solving problems, leading people, and making someone else’s business successful. What if it is time to use everything you have learned to build something of your own? Welcome to The Corporate Exit — the podcast for women who are ready to turn their corporate experience into a business and create an exit on their own terms. I’m Holly Powell, Corporate Exit Strategist and former corporate leader who walked away from a 20-year career to build a life and business outside of corporate. I know what it is like to feel the pull toward something different — and have absolutely no idea how to turn that feeling into a plan. That is what we do here. Each week, we will talk about how to uncover the business already hiding inside your experience, take action before you feel completely ready, build something people will actually pay for, and create a realistic path out of corporate. We will talk strategy. We will talk fear. We will talk money, business, purpose, and faith — because building your exit is about more than quitting a job. It is about building what comes next. You do not need another year of thinking about it. It is time to take action. Build your business. Create your exit. 55: What If Your Dream Career Isn't What You Want?
2026/10/20
What happens when you finally pursue the life you thought you wanted… only to discover it might not be what you want after all? In May 2025, I walked away from a 21-year corporate career with big dreams of building a successful business, helping others leave corporate, and creating a life filled with freedom and fulfillment. But the last 18 months haven't gone according to plan. I've learned more than I ever imagined about entrepreneurship, but I've also discovered something unexpected: I left corporate burnout behind only to create a different kind of burnout in my own business. And one conversation with a former colleague made me question everything. In this deeply personal episode of The Corporate Exit, I'm sharing what happens when your dream doesn't unfold the way you expected, why I'm giving myself permission to explore new possibilities, and what this means for the future of the podcast. In this episode, we'll talk about: Why leaving corporate doesn't automatically mean leaving burnout behind. The two questions that completely shifted my perspective. What I've learned about entrepreneurship, success, and my own strengths. Why changing direction doesn't mean you've failed. Rediscovering joy, curiosity, and interests outside of your career. What's next for me and The Corporate Exit. Here's what I want you to remember: You don't have to keep pursuing a dream simply because it's the one you started with. Your experience isn't wasted. Your accomplishments still matter. And you're allowed to build a life that fits who you're becoming, not just who you've always been. Your challenge this week: Instead of asking yourself, "What am I supposed to do with my life?" Ask yourself, "What would I like to experience next?" Give yourself permission to explore the answer without needing to turn it into another career, business, or five-year plan. Let's connect! I'd love to hear what brings you joy, what you're curious about exploring, or whether you've ever found yourself questioning a dream you worked so hard to achieve. Email me at [email protected], and if this episode resonates with you, please follow The Corporate Exit and share it with someone who needs this encouragement. Coming next week: I'm sitting down with my friend Raquel to discuss her transition from corporate into consulting, including what it takes to pursue a different path when you're responsible for your family's financial security.
54: You've Worked Too Hard To Leave Corporate? Think Again.
2026/10/13
You've spent 15, 20, maybe even 25 years building a successful corporate career. You've earned the promotions, taken on the responsibilities, and made countless sacrifices to get where you are today. But what happens when the career you've worked so hard to build is no longer the life you want? If you've been thinking about leaving corporate to start a business, you might be wondering whether walking away means throwing away everything you've accomplished. Here's what I want you to understand: You're not starting from scratch. You're starting from experience. In this episode of The Corporate Exit, we're exploring how to take the skills, knowledge, and expertise you've developed throughout your corporate career and begin turning them into a business of your own. In this episode, you'll learn: How to identify the valuable expertise you've developed throughout your corporate career. Three questions to help you uncover potential business opportunities. How to connect your professional experience to problems people are willing to pay to solve. Why validating your business idea matters before investing in a website, branding, or expensive programs. A practical seven-day action plan to start exploring your next chapter while you're still employed. You don't have to quit your job tomorrow, and you don't have to have your entire future figured out. You just need to know where to begin. Ready to Take Your Next Step? You know you want something different, but you're not sure how to turn your corporate experience into a business. That's exactly why I created the Corporate Exit Strategy Call. During this 60-minute, one-on-one session, we'll look at your experience, explore potential business opportunities, and identify your next step. By the end of our call, you'll have the clarity and direction you need to start moving forward. 53:I Quit Corporate: What I Wish I Knew
2026/10/06
What really happens after you quit your job and leave corporate to start a business? One year ago, I launched this podcast after walking away from a 21-year corporate career. I thought that by now I'd have more clients, more consistency, and a whole lot more certainty about what I was building. That's not exactly what happened. In this episode of The Corporate Exit, I'm giving you an honest look at my first year outside of corporate—the wins, the disappointments, the unexpected detours, and what God has been teaching me along the way. I'm sharing why leaving corporate was a decision, but building what came next has been a process. We'll talk about comparison, consistency, trusting God's timeline instead of my own, and why progress doesn't always look the way we expect it to. I'm also sharing why, if you're considering a career change, I now believe there is tremendous value in beginning to start a business while working full-time instead of waiting until after you've handed in your resignation. In this episode, you'll hear: What I thought would happen after I left corporate—and what actually happened The mistakes I made when I decided to start a business Why entrepreneurship has required me to let go of my corporate mindset What God has taught me about control, timing, and obedience Why getting interrupted doesn't mean you're inconsistent How one conversation reminded me that our work can make an impact before we see the results Why I've decided to take a seasonal job while continuing to build my business What I'm doing differently as I enter year two If you've been thinking “I want to quit my job,” “I need a career change,” or “I want to start a business, but I don't know where to begin,” I recorded this episode for you. You don't have to have your entire corporate exit figured out today. And your next step doesn't have to be quitting. Your next step can be building. Welcome to year two of The Corporate Exit. 🎙️ Connect with Holly: Substack: Holly Powell Co. Email: [email protected] The Corporate Exit is a faith-based podcast for women who want to leave corporate, start a business, navigate a career change, and build their way out of corporate without blindly walking away from the security they've worked so hard to create.
52: You Don't Need To Be READY To Start!
2026/09/08
What if the thing keeping you stuck isn't your job—but the word “once”? Once work slows down. Once you save more money. Once you feel confident. Once you know your business will work. In this episode, recorded from my phone while sitting in my unfinished house waiting for the internet guy, we're talking about why your corporate exit doesn't have to begin with quitting your job. I'm sharing four steps you can start taking now to build a business around the expertise you already have, validate your idea, and begin creating income before putting your financial security on the line. You don't have to have everything figured out. You just have to stop waiting for “once” and take the next step.
51: What If This Doesn’t Work? An Honest Life Update
2026/09/01
What happens when the life you carefully planned suddenly goes completely off schedule? I thought I was taking a two-week break. Instead, I bought a 1960s house in Alabama, moved across state lines, helped my parents move, made an unexpected second trip back to North Carolina—and discovered that my new house needed a whole lot more work than I anticipated. And somewhere in the middle of the moving trucks, renovations, new roof, electrical work, HVAC replacement, and complete lack of routine, my business had to take a back seat. A few years ago, that would have terrified me. Because corporate Holly believed she had to constantly show up, prove her worth, and demonstrate her commitment—even when life was happening around her. This time, I did something different. I let life happen. In this episode, I'm sharing an honest update about where I've been, what this transition has taught me about leaving corporate, and why building a business around your life—not building your life around your business—matters so much. I'm also sharing what’s ahead: rebuilding my little 1960s house, rebuilding parts of myself along the way, returning to the podcast, and creating a new space on Substack where I can share even more of this journey. Maybe the life you're dreaming about won't go exactly according to plan. Mine certainly hasn't. But maybe that's part of building a life that's finally your own. Come Along for the Next Chapter There’s a lot changing around here—and I’d love to bring you along for it. Follow me on Instagram, and LinkedIn for more behind-the-scenes of building my business, rebuilding my little 1960s house, and figuring out what it really looks like to create a life outside of corporate. And if you want the more personal side of the story, come find me on Substack at Holly Powell Co. That’s where I’ll be sharing the raw, honest stories, lessons, and thoughts that don’t always make it onto the podcast or social media. You can also send me an email [email protected] This next chapter is about more than leaving corporate. It’s about figuring out what you want your life to look like once you finally have the freedom to build it. Come build it with me.
50:Golden Handcuffs: Why Corporate Keeps You Stuck as Breadwinner
2026/07/28
👉 Ready to turn the money keeping you stuck into the money that funds your exit? Book YOUR Corporate Exit Strategy Call HERE The salary. The bonus. The stock that vests next spring. The match you'd be leaving on the table. None of that is small. And none of it is the enemy, either. If you have ever told yourself you'll leave "once the bonus hits" or "once the stock vests" — and quietly known that date keeps moving — this episode is going to hit different. Because here's the truth, friend... You've been treating the very thing keeping you stuck like it's untouchable. Like it belongs to the toxic workplace instead of to you. But that paycheck was never theirs to hold hostage. It's yours — and it can build the exact runway that sets you free, if you finally decide to redirect it on purpose. But here's what nobody has told you yet: the handcuffs only feel golden because they're indefinite. The moment you put a real number and a real date on them, they stop being a cage and start being a bridge. You don't need a windfall. You need a plan for the money you already have. If you are the breadwinner and the weight of that paycheck has kept you quiet for far too long — this episode is for you. If you have ever felt undervalued but stayed anyway because the money made it feel worth it — this episode is for you. If you are buried in a toxic workplace and know deep down the golden handcuffs are the only thing really keeping you there — this episode is for you. If you are ready to stop calling it "someday" and finally give your exit a real date — friend, this episode is especially for you. MISSED LAST WEEK'S EPISODE? I'VE GOT YOU COVERED. Last week we talked about being passed over — promised a promotion, denied even the interview — and how that closed door is actually pointing you toward something bigger. TUNE IN NOW! P.S. — If you know a woman who's the breadwinner in her home, staying for the bonus or the vesting date, and quietly wondering if the money is worth what it's costing her — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤 --- Keywords: breadwinner, toxic workplace, undervalued, unvalued
49: Passed Over: No Interview, No Promotion. Now What?
2026/07/21
👉 Ready to stop doubting yourself and finally get clarity on what's next? Let's talk. Book your Corporate Exit Strategy Call HERE You were told you were ready. Then the role opened up. And you didn't even get the interview. If you have spent weeks replaying that moment, wondering what you did wrong, wondering if you're actually as good as you thought you were — this episode is going to hit different. Because here's the truth, friend... That silence you've been sitting in? It wasn't empty. You filled it. With every worst-case story about yourself you could think of. What you didn't realize is that the rejection had almost nothing to do with you at all — and everything to do with a toxic workplace that was never going to see your full worth in the first place. But here's what nobody has told you yet: being passed over isn't a verdict on your value. It's a closed door on a role that was always too small for what God actually has for you. You don't need their approval. You need your own clarity. If you have ever felt undervalued despite doing everything right — this episode is for you. If you are the breadwinner and can't afford to keep pinning your future on a promotion that may never come — this episode is for you. If you are buried in a toxic workplace that keeps overlooking you no matter how hard you work — this episode is for you. If you are ready to stop asking "what's wrong with me" and start asking "what's next for me" — friend, this episode is especially for you. P.S. — If you know a woman who was just passed over and is quietly questioning everything about herself right now — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤 --- Keywords: breadwinner, toxic workplace, undervalued, unvalued
48: The Atta Girl Trap: Why You Still Feel Undervalued
2026/07/14
👉 Ready to stop feeling unvalued and finally build the life God called you to? Let's talk. Book your Exit Strategy Call HERE You are not "meets expectations." You are not the same story you heard in last year's review, just dressed up in nicer language this time around. If you have sat across from your manager, heard every reason you're doing a great job, and still walked away feeling completely unvalued — this episode is going to hit different. Because here's the truth, friend... You keep waiting for the review that finally changes something. Waiting for "just a little more" to turn into the promotion, the raise, the recognition you've actually earned. You tell yourself next cycle will be different. It wasn't different last year. It probably won't be different this year either. But here's what nobody has told you yet: that review was never a verdict on you. It was a mirror — showing you exactly how good you already are, and exactly how long a toxic workplace intends to keep benefiting from it before they ever let you rise. You don't need one more "atta girl." You need a plan of your own. If you are the breadwinner carrying the full financial weight of your household and can't afford to keep waiting on someone else's calendar — this episode is for you. If you have spent years in a toxic workplace that keeps recognizing your work without ever rewarding it — this episode is for you. If you are tired of walking out of every review feeling unvalued, no matter how many wins are on the page — this episode is for you. If you are ready to stop collecting "atta girls" and start building your own exit — friend, this episode is especially for you.   P.S. — If you know a woman who's the breadwinner in her home, stuck in a toxic workplace, and tired of feeling unvalued no matter how many great reviews she gets — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤 --- Keywords: breadwinner, toxic workplace, unvalued
47: Undervalued? Here's Why You Were Built to Go From Corporate to CEO
2026/07/07
👉 Ready to stop feeling undervalued and finally build the company only you can build? Let's talk. BOOK HERE  You are not a job title. You are not a performance review. And you are certainly not "meets expectations." If you have spent years in a toxic workplace, giving everything you have to a company that still somehow leaves you feeling undervalued and unvalued — this episode is going to hit different. Because here's the truth, friend... You keep waiting to feel ready. Waiting for the fear to go away. Waiting until you have a business idea that feels big enough, polished enough, safe enough to actually leave for. But here's what nobody has told you yet: you already have everything you need. The decision-making. The leadership. The communication. The ability to perform under pressure while everyone else falls apart. That is not just a resume. That is a consulting practice, already built inside you, just waiting to be named. You don't need a new idea. You need to see what has been there the entire time. If you have ever felt unvalued despite doing everything right — this episode is for you. If you are buried in a toxic workplace and know deep down it is costing you more than it is paying you — this episode is for you. If you are ready to stop dreaming about going from corporate to entrepreneur and actually start building it — this episode is for you. If you can already picture yourself making the leap from corporate to CEO but you don't know where to start — friend, this episode is especially for you. P.S. — If you know a woman who feels undervalued in her toxic workplace and is quietly dreaming about her own corporate to CEO moment — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤 --- Keywords: toxic workplace, undervalued, unvalued, corporate to CEO, corporate to entrepreneur

45:"Who Am I Without My Title?" Leave Corporate, Become Your Future Self
2026/06/23
👉 Ready to walk away from your corporate title and finally step into the woman God called you to be? Let's build your exit plan together. Send me an email at [email protected] 🎙️ Welcome to Stuck in Corporate — The Faith Fueled Exit with Holly Powell Your title is not your identity. In a corporate world obsessed with climbing higher, earning more, and collecting fancier titles at the end of your name... your sense of self quietly gets buried underneath it all. If you are a Christian woman who has poured everything into your corporate career — and somewhere along the way stopped knowing who you are outside of it — this episode is for you. Because here is what nobody tells you when you decide to leave: The hardest part of leaving corporate is not the money. It is not the benefits. It is not even the fear. It is the identity crisis waiting for you on the other side. If you have ever tied your worth to your job title — this episode is for you. If corporate burnout has left you wondering who you even are anymore — this episode is for you. If you are ready for personal growth that goes deeper than a promotion or a pay raise — this episode is especially for you. In today's episode you will discover: → Why high-achieving women lose themselves inside corporate culture — and never see it coming → How your career transition can feel like a complete identity breakdown (and why that is actually God's plan) → The Air Force Basic Training secret that explains exactly why your breaking down is building you up → What setting boundaries with your corporate identity actually looks like in real life → How to rebuild your identity as a Kingdom Entrepreneur — starting with your daily routine → Why entrepreneurial mindset is the missing piece between where you are and where God is calling you Here is what I know for sure: The woman God created you to be is not the woman in the corner office. She is not the title on your business card. She is not the salary in your bank account. She is the woman who said YES to her calling — even when it was terrifying. Even when she did not know how. Even when she had to be broken down first. That is the woman this episode is for. And that is the woman you already are. 🔗 WORK WITH HOLLY: Ready to build your God-led corporate exit plan? 44: Is Perfectionism Stopping You From Building Your Business?
2026/06/16
👉 Ready to stop letting perfectionism steal the business God called you to build? Let's talk. Send me an email at [email protected] Because here's the truth friend... You have been getting ready to get ready. You told yourself you would launch when the website was done. When the niche was clear. When you felt more confident. When you had more money saved. When the kids were older. When the timing was right. And here you are. Still in corporate. Still giving your best hours to someone else's dream. Still waiting for a green light that is never coming. Sound familiar? That is exactly what we are breaking today. If perfectionism has been keeping you from building the coaching or consulting business you know you are called to build — this episode is for you. If you are the primary breadwinner and the financial weight of your household has you paralyzed — this episode is for you. If you are a Christian woman who has been living a double life — corporate professional by day, quietly building your dream on every stolen hour you can find — friend, this episode is especially for you. Inside I break down: 🖤 Why perfectionism is not a personality trait — it is procrastination wearing a productivity mask 🖤 The four excuses keeping you from building your business — and why every single one of them is fear in disguise 🖤 Why your twenty years of corporate experience has more merit than any course certificate on your wall 🖤 The double life nobody talks about — building in secret, scared your company finds out, carrying it completely alone 🖤 Why playing small is not caution — it is a sin — and what God is actually asking you to trust Him with Because here is what I know to be true... Your company has been monetizing your expertise for years. It is time for you to monetize it for yourself. You do not need a perfect niche. You do not need a finished website. You do not need one more course. You need one person who has a problem you already know how to solve. That is the whole business to start. You are a leader. At home and at work. You have been leading, coaching, and delivering your whole career. And you absolutely have what it takes to make this happen. But you have been using perfectionism as procrastination. And that stops today.   P.S. — If you know a woman who is the breadwinner in her home and she has been quietly dreaming about leaving corporate to build her own business — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤   Keywords: perfectionism, procrastination, corporate exit, coaching business, consulting business, primary breadwinner, faith, women entrepreneurs, calling, freedom
43: The Paycheck Trap — Why Career Transition Feels Financially Impossible
2026/06/09
⏰ THIS WEEK ONLY — The Faith Fueled Exit is open NOW through Sunday June 15th at 11:59pm EST. After that it is gone. Do not let this be another thing you almost did. 👉I WANT IN!  Because here's the truth friend... You told yourself January was going to be the year. You were going to work until the bonus hit. Until the stocks vested. Until the timing was right. And then the raise came. The empty promises followed. And you stayed. It's June now. And you are sitting in that cubicle convicted — because you let your steady paycheck win again. Sound familiar? That's exactly what we are breaking today. If corporate burnout has you trapped in the "one more year" cycle — this episode is for you. If career transition feels impossible because the financial fear is just too loud — this episode is for you. If you are a Christian woman who knows she is called to more but keeps letting the paycheck talk her out of it — friend, this episode is especially for you. Inside, I break down: 🖤 The 3 financial traps that keep Christian women stuck in corporate — and why they feel so convincing 🖤 Why this is not actually a money problem — it's a faith problem dressed up in a spreadsheet 🖤 The real cost of staying — what your work-life balance, your family, and your calling are paying every single day you wait 🖤 The question God has been waiting for you to ask that will completely flip the stakes 🖤 What setting boundaries with your own fear actually looks like — and why it starts with one decision Because here's what I know to be true... Every day you stay is not caution. It is a choice. You are choosing your employer over your calling. And that choice has a cost that does not show up on your pay stub. What if God is asking you to let go so He can give you something greater? If you knew that leaving today meant losing $120,000 in the short term — but you were building a God-led business that would give you $1.2 million in two years — would that change the stakes? It's not your timing. It's not your circumstances. It's that you don't fully trust God enough to take the next step. And I know, because I was YOU. In this episode, I get vulnerable about the real reason so many high-achieving women stay stuck in corporate — and it's not what you think. Inside, I break down: 🖤 The 3 real reasons we second-guess our God-given calling 🖤 Why over-analyzing everything is just fear dressed up in a business suit 🖤 What Esther's story teaches us about trusting God in impossible, life-or-death moments 🖤 Why God doesn't need your perfect plan — He just needs your YES 🖤 How to take your next step even when you don't feel ready or equipped Because here's what I know to be true... God doesn't call the equipped. He equips the called. Esther didn't second-guess. She didn't overanalyze. She put her faith in the Lord and took action — and she saved not only herself but her entire people. So here's the question I'm leaving with you today: If our loving and generous God could guide and protect Esther in her calling… what makes you think He wouldn't do it for you? It's time to stop auditing your calling and start walking in it. 🙌 If this episode hit home, I'd love for you to share it with the woman in your life who needs to hear it today. Your share could be the nudge that finally gets her unstuck. And if YOU are ready to stop sitting in that corporate chair and finally make your move — let's talk.
