This week on Back to the Past Podcast, we dig up one of the most unsettling horror films of the late '80s: Mary Lambert's Pet Sematary (1989), adapted from Stephen King's novel. Louis Creed moves his family to rural Maine, where a creepy burial ground beyond the pet cemetery promises to bring back what you've lost. It doesn't go well. We look at why this movie still gets under people's skin and why it holds a special place in the VHS-era horror boom. Along the way we share our own first-viewing memories and decide whether it holds up today. Key Topics Covered: The plot and the Creed family's move to Ludlow, Maine How Stephen King wrote the screenplay himself, and what changed from the novel Fred Gwynne as Jud Crandall, and the film's strong cast Zelda, Victor Pascow, and some of the most memorable scares in '80s horror The film's themes of grief, death, and the lengths people go to for the ones they love The Ramones' "Pet Sematary" and its place in the film's legacy Behind-the-scenes trivia and filming locations Gage, and why that storyline still disturbs people decades later Our final verdict: does it still hold up? Welcome to our unofficial support group. Today, we're admitting that we have a problem—and that problem is fueled by LEGO instructions, Time Lord lore, and 1920s detective mysteries. We're breaking down why we can't stop buying modular buildings, how Doctor Who broke our brains, and why Frank and Joe Hardy are still giving us unrealistic expectations about solving local crimes. Welcome to the podcast where we're definitely not 'allergic to anything,' except maybe federal agents in hazmat suits. This week, we're heading back to 1982 to hang out with a wrinkled, brown space-botanist who has a glowing finger, a serious Reese's Pieces addiction, and a better long-distance calling plan than most of us had in the nineties.   We're diving deep into the suburbs of California to figure out how a group of kids—led by a boy with a telepathic hangover—managed to outrun the entire government on BMX bikes with nothing but 'heart' and some questionable physics.   Grab your speak-and-spells, hide your beer from the alien, and for the love of everything, stay out of the tool shed. It's time to talk E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Welcome back to the podcast where we've officially moved past the 'cute alien in a flower pot' phase and straight into the 'why is there a NASA laboratory in my living room?' phase.   It's part two of our look at 1982's E.T., and things are getting heavy—mostly because E.T. just discovered the fridge and Elliott's emotional stability is hanging by a single telepathic thread.   In this episode, we're asking the hard questions: How did those kids pedal fast enough to defy gravity? Is 'Keys' actually a villain or just a guy who really needs a better hobby? And exactly how many Reese's Pieces does it take to bribe a government official?   So, toss your kid brother in the bike basket, tell your mom it's just a 'coyote' in the shed, and let's get into the tear-jerking, bike-flying finale of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Welcome to the podcast where nobody is 'tossing their cookies,' but everyone is dodging trains and searching for clues. This episode heads back to 1986 to revisit Castle Rock, a town where the kids have sharp tongues, the leeches are way too friendly, and a single blueberry pie can spark a total 'Lard-Ass' apocalypse.   If there was ever a question of why four twelve-year-olds thought a two-day hike in Keds was a good idea, this is the place to find the answer. Grab a comb, watch out for Chopper, and remember the sentiment that one will never have friends like the ones they had when they were twelve.   It is time to talk Stand By Me. Before Pulp Fiction, there was a group of color-coded criminals and a diamond heist that went horribly sideways. In this episode, we go back to 1992 to revisit Reservoir Dogs. We're talking about the powerhouse performances of Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Steve Buscemi, and how Tarantino used a single location to create unbearable tension on the Back to the Past Podcast from the AllStar Fence STL Studios on the Lion's Den Podcast Network powered by Stark Roofing!
