PIPs, Pink Slips & Power: Protecting Yourself Before You're Fired
2026/10/23
Got put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)? Worried about a layoff or termination?
In this episode of Black Women S.A.V.E. Black Women, Kamika Dillard sits down with employment attorney and workplace strategist Elizabeth Goueti to discuss what every Black woman should know about protecting herself in corporate America.
Together, they break down performance improvement plans, layoffs, terminations, personnel files, severance agreements and workplace rights. Elizabeth shares practical strategies for documenting your work, advocating for yourself and making informed decisions when your job is on the line.
The biggest lesson? Don't wait until you're in crisis to learn your rights. Power starts with preparation.
This conversation is for general information, not legal advice. Your rights and options depend on your circumstances and state law.
About Elizabeth Goueti Elizabeth Goueti, "The Workplace Lawyer," is an attorney, employment lawyer, workplace strategist, and certified coach with experience at both the courtroom bench and executive table. After representing employees and leading tech and global companies through strategic people initiatives, she now serves as CEO and Principal Consultant of Avinu Consulting, LLC. The firm operates two divisions: Workplace in Motion, which provides HR training, workshops, and strategic implementation; and Courage in Corporate, a private coaching program that empowers Black women in corporate America to protect their careers through negotiation.

The Wisdom of the Beehive: Lessons for Black Women After a Layoff
2026/10/20
What if a layoff isn't the end of the story, but the beginning of something new?
In this episode of Black Women S.A.V.E. Black Women, Kamika Dillard sits down with apitherapist and founder of The Apiarian Home, Netta Caligari, for a conversation about layoffs, career transitions, healing and what it means to build a life that's aligned with your values.
After being laid off for the first time in her career, Netta chose to pause instead of panic. She eventually walked away from the highest-paying role she had ever held, bet on herself and built a business rooted in purpose. Along the way, a personal health journey introduced her to the healing power of hive products, and the beehive became a powerful teacher about healing, purpose and community.
In this conversation:
Why a layoff can be a signal to pause instead of panic Her one-way door versus two-way door framework for making big life and career decisions How she prepared financially to walk away from stability and bet on herself What a honeybee superorganism teaches us about leadership, community and collective care Why Black women need community, mentorship and support to thrive after major life transitions The biggest lesson? A hive survives because every bee contributes to the whole. When one bee is impacted, the colony is impacted. The same is true for us.
Also in this episode: Kamika's Fail Forward File on skipping her mask and making decisions from abundance, and this week's S.A.V.E Strategy: Validate.
About Netta Caligari
Netta Caligari is a beekeeper, apitherapist and founder of The Apiarian Home. After a personal health journey and a career layoff prompted her to rethink her path, she turned to the healing power of hive products and built a wellness business rooted in the wisdom of the honeybee.
Through apitherapy, education and beeswax-based products, Netta helps people reconnect with nature, wellness and community. She believes the beehive offers powerful lessons about collective care, resilience and what it means to thrive together.

2026/07/13
