Iowa Preview — A Different Kind of Test
2026/10/02
Ohio State has already been tested on the road this season. The Buckeyes went into Austin and came within one point of beating Texas. Now they get another ranked opponent away from home — this time in Big Ten play, against a 4–0 Iowa team that just went into Ann Arbor and beat Michigan. Iowa presents a different challenge. The Hawkeyes are running the football with multiple backs, Hank Brown has provided stability at quarterback, and Phil Parker has his defense playing at one of the highest levels in the country. For Ohio State, there are some obvious areas to watch. If you want the full BFB breakdown, head over to BuckeyeFilmBreakdown.com and become a paid subscriber. That’s where we’re putting the deeper film work, analysis and everything you need heading into kickoff. The Message From The Pressers
2026/09/30
The Illinois game is over. The film has been watched. Now we’re starting to get an idea of how Ohio State is responding to it. Ryan Day and Kenyatta Jackson both addressed the media Tuesday, and there was a pretty clear theme running through both press conferences: Do your job. Day talked about defensive execution, creating more pressure, getting more production from the defensive line and not trying to get too cute against Iowa. Jackson was even more direct, talking about “hero ball,” gap discipline and the importance of playing all 60 minutes. So what should we actually take from those comments? On this episode of Buckeye Film Breakdown, we’re breaking down the biggest messages from the Day and Jackson pressers, what they tell us about the Illinois film, and what Ohio State needs to correct before heading to Iowa. Closing the Door on Illinois
2026/09/28
Big Ten football is about more than getting out to a lead. It’s about finishing. Ohio State built a 28–10 halftime lead against Illinois, but the Illini didn’t simply go away. They continued to run the football, made some explosive plays and put pressure on the Buckeyes to answer. And Ohio State did. A 19-play, 97-yard drive. Another touchdown from Jeremiah Smith. A defense that eventually got the stops it needed. And an offense that continued to make plays when the game started to tighten up. On this episode of Buckeye Film Breakdown, we’re closing the door on Illinois. What did Ohio State do well? Where did the Buckeyes make things harder than they needed to? What did we learn about Julian Sayin, Jeremiah Smith and this offense? And what does the tape tell us about a defense that still has some things to clean up? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. What Should Ohio State Expect From Illinois?
2026/09/25
The non-conference schedule is behind us. Now the real season begins. Illinois brings a new-look defense, an efficient quarterback in Katin Houser and one of the nation’s most productive receivers in Collin Dixon. We’ll break down what the Buckeyes need to be ready for, the matchups we’re watching and the keys to the game. Then we’ll put our predictions on the table — score, MVP, biggest matchup and biggest surprise. This is just the preview. Coach Day’s Big Ten Message
2026/09/23
The non-conference schedule is over. Now the real work begins. Ryan Day met with the media Tuesday ahead of Ohio State’s Big Ten opener against Illinois, and there was plenty to unpack. Day addressed the areas that still need to improve, including third down, finishing drives in the red zone, special teams and the running game. He also challenged his running backs to “run angry” and said how they practice this week will determine how they play Saturday. We also got more insight into Jason Moore’s emergence, Eddrick Houston’s role moving forward, the offensive line situation, and Luke Fahey’s continued rise as Ohio State’s No. 2 quarterback. So, what should we actually take from Day’s comments? What is Ohio State trying to fix? What should we be watching against Illinois? And which of the issues Day addressed could become the biggest factor once Big Ten play gets rolling? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Closing the Door on Kent State
2026/09/21
Ohio State did exactly what it needed to do against Kent State — win 59–3, build some confidence and move forward. There were plenty of positives, from Jeremiah Smith making more history to Brandon Inniss’ incredible Hail Mary catch and Jason Moore continuing to emerge. But there are still things the Buckeyes need to shore up before Big Ten play begins. In this preview, we take a quick look back at Kent State, identify the positives, and focus on what Ohio State needs to clean up moving forward. This is just the preview. Closing the Door on Texas
2026/09/18
The Texas game is over. It still hurts, but it’s time to close the door on Austin and move forward. In this preview, Jake Burns from Browns Film Breakdown joins us to break down what we saw from Ohio State on both sides of the ball. What did the Buckeyes do well? Where did things break down? And what can we take from the Texas game without allowing one fourth quarter to define this team? Then we turn the page to Kent State. What do we need to see from the Ohio State offense? What should we be watching from the defense? Which players need to take the next step? Texas is in the rearview mirror. Now it’s about what Ohio State does next. This is just a preview. What Comes Next for the Buckeyes?
2026/09/16
The Texas game is over. The disappointment is real. But now comes the most important part. What does Ohio State do next? The Buckeyes walked out of Austin with a loss, but they also walked out with a pretty clear picture of what this team can be — and what it still needs to become. Ohio State showed it can go toe-to-toe with an elite team on the road. Jeremiah Smith showed he can take over against a defense built specifically to stop him. The defense controlled Texas for three quarters. Julian Sayin showed plenty of things we can build on. But the fourth quarter also exposed some real questions. So this episode isn’t about re-litigating the loss. It’s about what comes next. What should Ohio State learn from Texas? What needs to change? Who needs to step up? What can we realistically expect from this team moving forward? And most importantly — can the Buckeyes turn a painful loss into something that makes them better by November? Because the season isn’t over. In fact, the real work starts now. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Monday Debrief: Texas
2026/09/14
Ohio State had Texas right where it wanted them. A 20-point lead. One quarter to play. Then everything changed. The Longhorns stormed back with 21 unanswered points, scored the go-ahead touchdown with 25 seconds remaining, and escaped with a 24–23 victory. So what happened? On the BFB Monday Debrief, we’re going back through the game and breaking down the biggest moments, the fourth-quarter collapse, the decisions that changed the game, and what we actually learned about this Ohio State team. Was this a case of Texas making the plays it needed to make? Did Ohio State get too conservative? Where does the blame belong? And perhaps most importantly: What does this loss mean for the Buckeyes moving forward? No panic. No excuses. Just the BFB breakdown. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Can Julian Sayin Win This Game?
2026/09/10
Julian Sayin couldn’t have asked for a much better start to the 2026 season. Against Ball State, Sayin completed 21 of 25 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns. But now comes the test that matters: Texas. On this episode of Buckeye Film Breakdown, we’re asking a simple question: What does Ohio State actually need from Julian Sayin to beat the Longhorns? Does he need to put up big numbers? Can he simply play efficiently and protect the football? How will he handle Texas’ pressure and the environment in Austin? And if Texas makes stopping Jeremiah Smith its top priority, can Sayin consistently make them pay somewhere else? Most importantly, can Julian Sayin make the big plays when Ohio State needs them? Because Saturday isn’t about proving he’s Ohio State’s quarterback. It’s about finding out if he can be the difference in a game between two of the best teams in the country.
