Can Exercise Improve Your Gut Health?
2026/09/27
You know exercise is good for your health. But could the way you move actually change what is happening inside your gut? Exercise is usually associated with weight, fitness, and cardiovascular health. Yet movement may also influence digestion, gut motility, inflammation, and even the diversity of the microbiome. In this episode of The Gut Matters Podcast, Dr. Avraham Gundle explores the connection between exercise and gut health while answering an important question: which forms of movement may support the gut, and when could exercise actually make digestive symptoms worse? He also shares a practical framework for anyone who has fallen out of a healthy routine and wants to begin again without guilt, perfectionism, or unrealistic expectations. In this episode you will learn: ✅ How physical activity may support a healthier and more diverse gut microbiome ✅ Why walking can be one of the simplest places to begin ✅ Which forms of exercise may be gentler during a digestive flare ✅ Why intense exercise can sometimes aggravate gastrointestinal symptoms ✅ How yoga, stretching, Pilates, walking, and gentle movement may support digestion ✅ Why connecting to your deeper reason can make healthy habits easier to sustain ✅ How celebrating small wins can help you keep moving forward You do not need to become an athlete to support your health. Sometimes twenty minutes of walking, a few gentle stretches, or simply putting on your exercise shoes is enough to begin. The important thing is to start. 🎧 Subscribe to The Gut Matters Podcast for more practical conversations about gut health, digestion, lifestyle, and root cause healing. 🌿 Want ongoing guidance for your gut health? A Thought for Shabbos Shuva
2026/09/18
I heard a beautiful story this week that made quite an impression on me. The Zohar tells of a traveller who was miraculously saved from death twice. When Rebbi Abba asked what he had done to merit such protection, the man explained that he never went to sleep while still holding anger against someone who had hurt him. He would forgive them — and even look for opportunities to do kindness for those who had wronged him. Shabbos Shuva carries a unique opportunity for return, repair and renewal. So perhaps before Shabbos, we can ask ourselves one simple question: Is there any anger, resentment or hurt that I don't want to carry with me into the new year? We don't have to resolve everything today. But perhaps we can begin to let something go. Wishing you and all of Klal Yisrael a beautiful Shabbos Shuva and a Gmar Chasima Tova.
The Bitter Truth About Sugar and Your Gut
2026/09/13
If you constantly crave something sweet, it may not simply be a lack of willpower. Sugar is everywhere, often hiding in foods we would never think of as especially sweet. Over time, that constant exposure can influence our cravings, energy, metabolism, eating habits, and the environment inside the gut. In this episode of The Gut Matters Podcast, Dr. Avraham Gundle explores the relationship between sugar, the gut microbiome, and our desire for sweetness. He also looks beyond nutrition alone and asks an important question: what are we really seeking when we continuously reach for another sweet fix? In this episode you will learn: ✅ Why sugar can be difficult to reduce once your palate becomes accustomed to highly sweet foods ✅ How added sugars and sweeteners may affect the gut microbiome and intestinal environment ✅ Why reading food labels matters even when a product appears to be a healthier option ✅ How sugar can influence energy, appetite, mood, and metabolic health ✅ Why cravings may have emotional as well as physical components ✅ How gradually reducing sweetness can help retrain your palate ✅ Why changing your relationship with sugar does not require giving up every enjoyable food The goal is not perfection. It is awareness. When you begin noticing what you eat, why you reach for it, and how your body responds, you can make choices that support both your gut and your overall wellbeing.
