Topical Estrogen for Skin Health
2026/02/02
In this solo episode of The Skin Pause, Dr. Corinne Erickson—board-certified dermatologist and Menopause Society Certified Practitioner—takes a careful, evidence-based look at one of the most common and controversial questions she hears from patients and colleagues alike: Should estrogen creams be used on the face for skin health?
This episode is not a protocol, recommendation, or one-size-fits-all answer. Instead, it is a review of what the scientific literature shows, where limitations exist, and how clinicians and patients can think clearly and responsibly when evidence is evolving.
Important Notes & Disclaimers
This episode is for educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice.Dr. Erickson is not promoting specific products, does not financially benefit from topical estrogen formulations discussed, and has no industry relationships related to facial estrogen products.Use of estrogen on the face is off-label. Any hormone-based therapy should involve individualized discussion with a qualified healthcare professional.Study data discussed includes small clinical trials, observational studies, and mechanistic research. Large, long-term randomized trials specific to facial estrogen use are limited.Estrogen receptors are present throughout the skin. Both estrogen receptor alpha and estrogen receptor beta are expressed in cutaneous tissues. ER-β predominates in many skin compartments and appears to mediate several local cutaneous effects, while ER-α plays a larger role in estrogen’s proliferative effects in reproductive tissues such as the uterus and breast. Receptor presence does not imply uniform function, and tissue response depends on dose, formulation, and route of exposure.

Dr. Jen Williams: Leaning Into Menopause
2026/01/20
Midlife can be a breaking point or a turning point. In this episode of The Skin Pause, Dr. Corinne Erickson sits down with board-certified OB-GYN Dr. Jen Williams to explore how a pivotal midlife moment led Jen to completely rethink how she practiced medicine and ultimately build a menopause-focused care model that restored purpose, longevity, and personal satisfaction in her career.
Together, they unpack what it looks like to lean into menopause not just clinically, but personally. They cut through the hype to discuss what hormone therapy can realistically do, how long it takes to work, why menopause is hitting this generation differently than our mothers’, and why hormones alone are never the full solution. This is a conversation about thriving in midlife by aligning medicine, lifestyle, and meaning.

Nyssa Green: Midlife Makeup Tips
2026/01/18
Midlife isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong,” it’s about learning how to evolve with what’s changing. In this episode of The Skin Pause, Dr. Corinne Erickson sits down with Emmy Award–winning makeup artist Nyssa Green for an honest, affirming conversation about confidence, identity, and beauty in midlife.
Together, they explore how shifts in hormones, skin texture, facial structure, and personal style can quietly challenge how women see themselves, and why embracing change, rather than resisting it, is often the key to feeling brighter, more confident, and more at home in our skin.
