Episode 12, Christine Tappan of BirchWalking
2026/08/26
Episode 12: Christine Tappan — Reconnecting Through Nature
In this episode of The Let’s Hike Podcast, Jeremy and Sarah sit down with Christine Tappan, MSW, CAGS, CWMF, founder and lead guide of BirchWalking Nature Connected Wellness, to explore what can happen when we stop simply moving through nature and begin intentionally connecting with it.
Christine’s work centers around creating safe, nature-based spaces that help people slow down, reconnect, build resilience, and strengthen their capacity to thrive. Through BirchWalking, she offers experiences including forest and nature therapy, mindfulness, nature connection, forest therapy trail consultation, and programs for individuals, families, groups, teams, and organizations.
During our conversation, Christine shares her own path to nature-connected wellness and how experiences with burnout and vicarious trauma ultimately helped lead her toward forest therapy.
We explore the difference between hiking through the woods and truly being present in the woods, why slowing down can sometimes feel surprisingly difficult, and how intentionally engaging our senses can completely change the way we experience a familiar landscape.
We also talk about forest bathing, mindfulness, stress, resilience, connection, and the idea that spending meaningful time in nature does not have to involve a summit, a strenuous hike, or an impressive accomplishment.
Sometimes healing looks less like pushing harder and more like stopping long enough to notice what is already around us.
If you have ever stepped into the forest and immediately felt something inside you begin to settle, this conversation may help you understand that experience in a completely different way.

Episode 11, Billy Rudd and CloudSplitter Coffee
2026/08/19
In Episode 11 of The Let’s Hike Podcast, Jeremy sits down with Billy Rudd, founder of CloudSplitter Coffee.
Billy is an Air Force veteran, hiker, runner, ultramarathoner, Appalachian Trail section-hiker, and accomplished endurance athlete who has completed the Northeast Ultra 8. But this conversation goes far beyond miles, mountains, and endurance challenges.
Jeremy and Billy talk about hiking in the White Mountains, the Appalachian Trail, knowing when to turn around, the lessons that come from long days in the woods, and how nature can help us disconnect from the noise of modern life and reconnect with what actually matters.
They also talk about CloudSplitter Coffee, stepping away from the corporate world, simplifying life, letting go of material pressure, spending more time with family, and building something meaningful around the outdoor community.
This episode is about endurance, identity, growth, purpose, and the way the trail can strip life back down to something more honest. Sometimes nature does not add something new to our lives. Sometimes it removes what is unnecessary and reminds us what we were carrying that we no longer need.
This interview was recorded before Sarah officially joined The Let’s Hike Podcast as co-host. After the conversation, Jeremy and Sarah return together to reflect on what stood out and share what they’re carrying forward from Billy’s story.

Episode 10, Sarah Interviews Jeremy
2026/08/12
In Episode 10 of The Let’s Hike Podcast, the tables are turned.
After introducing Sarah as the new co-host in Episode 9, this time Sarah takes the lead and interviews Jeremy. In this honest and personal conversation, Jeremy opens up about who he is, what led him to start the podcast, and why nature has become such an important part of his healing, growth, and purpose.
This episode goes beyond hiking stories and peak lists. Jeremy shares more about the life experiences that shaped him, the deeper mission behind The Let’s Hike Podcast, and why he believes nature offers powerful pathways back to ourselves — through movement, stillness, reflection, connection, and the next best step.
It is a conversation about grief, growth, service, identity, and the healing that can happen when we step outside and allow nature to meet us where we are.
Whether you’re climbing mountains, walking through the woods, sitting by the water, moving through a hard season, or simply looking for your next best step — we’re glad you’re here.

Episode 6, Trail Report #3, The Wildcats
2026/04/07
This Wildcats hike started with uncertainty—new people, unknown pace, and pre-hike nerves—and ended with gratitude. In Trail Report #3, I hike from 19 Mile Brook to Carter Notch Hut, traverse Wildcats A–D, and descend Polecat in winter conditions with spikes on all day. We talk views, trail strategy, and the deeper lesson: how stepping into the unknown can turn anxiety into connection, confidence, and a real reset in nature.

Mount Cabot wasn’t just a hike — it was a lesson in smart turnarounds, patience, and coming back strong after time off. After two attempts that didn’t happen (including a failed winter brook crossing with my 75-lb dog), I finally summited Cabot on December 28th via Bunnell Notch. In this episode: the full trail story, winter systems lessons (including a frozen hydration tube), Cabot Cabin history, and how hiking meets the six human needs—plus a reminder that the Forest is For Rest.
