What I learnt from Manchester this weekemd
2026/09/27
This week on The Shawn Commey Podcast, both Manchester clubs are making headlines for very different reasons. I unpack the latest discussion around Manchester City’s 115 charges, then turn to Pastor Jerry Eze’s prayer conference at Manchester United’s Old Trafford and the conversation it sparked online.
What can these two stories teach us about reputation, accountability and the power of belief? I share the lessons I took from each, and why there’s more to this week’s Manchester conversation than football.
Tale of the Tape: Across the Ages- Ep 2 Jose Mourinho and Napoleon Bonaparte
2026/08/20
In this episode of Tale of the Tape: Across the Ages, we compare José Mourinho with Napoleon Bonaparte—two brilliant strategists whose confidence, tactical genius and relentless ambition helped them conquer established powers. From Napoleon dismantling Europe’s old order to Mourinho ending the Manchester United–Arsenal duopoly, we examine their rapid rise, greatest victories, loyal armies and eventual downfalls. Was the self-belief that made them special also the source of their destruction?
Tale of the Tape: Across the Ages- Ep 1 Caitlin Clark and Jesus Christ
2026/08/17
Caitlin Clark is not Jesus Christ. But the story of her arrival in the WNBA has some striking parallels to the story of Christianity’s Messiah. In this episode, we explore how both emerged at moments of uncertainty, attracted an unprecedented following, faced enormous expectations, and became symbols of something much larger than themselves.
LINKING AN OLIVA DEAN CONCERT TO SPORTS FIGURES
2026/08/08
After going to an Olivia Dean concert, I got some interesting reactions. Apparently, as a man, I’m not supposed to be there. And as an African, my love for artists like Olivia Dean and Oasis has sometimes earned me labels like “whitewashed.”
So this episode got me thinking: why do we let other people decide what we’re supposed to like?
From music and masculinity to culture, identity and sport, I talk about the pressure to fit into the boxes people create for us—and why being yourself sometimes means being comfortable standing outside of them.
Because your culture can be part of who you are without becoming a rulebook for who you have to be.
WHAT I LEARNT FROM THIS WORLD CUP
2026/07/27
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is in the books, and what a tournament it was.
In this episode, I talk about:⚽ Why football remains the most powerful sport in the world when it comes to bringing people together.🇬🇭 Jordan Ayew and... well... his shenanigans.🏴 England and why they still aren't as big as they think they are.🇪🇸 And finally, giving Spain their flowers after a World Cup-winning campaign that deserves every bit of praise.
Agree? Disagree? Let me know your biggest lesson from this World Cup. 🎙️👇

World Cup Hate Rankings… and why I need to chill
2026/06/08
I start this episode by doing something completely unnecessary: ranking the countries I’ll be hating on during the World Cup 😭. But somewhere between the banter, the rivalries and praying on certain teams’ downfall, I realized something — hate can overcrowd your judgment.
This year has had some painful sports moments for me. Man United went trophyless, the Celtics came up short, the Patriots lost the Super Bowl, Arsenal had success, and the Knicks are getting dangerously close to glory. But even then, I still have friends who support those teams and I still appreciate them.
That made me think: if we can separate sports rivalry from real life, why do we sometimes struggle to do that outside sports? People are more than their team, politics, beliefs, identity, or affiliation. You don’t have to agree with everyone — but don’t let dislike stop you from seeing people as human.
Support your team. Troll respectfully. Respect greatness. Don’t let hate overcrowd your judgment.
Celtics cause eternal pains and UCL drama
2026/05/12
The Boston Celtics have been eliminated in the first round for the first time since 2021, and I am not happy. Bayern and Paris Saint Germain epic showdown also has lessons we can apply in our lives
Lessons from Round 1 of NBA Playoffs
2026/05/02
Jaylen Brown and Derrick White seriously want me to go bald like them, Jayson Tatum is still him in this episode, we get lessons from the Boston vs Philly series and, others in round 1
Don't Let The Pressure Get You- Lessons from Zizou
2026/04/13
Zinedine Zidane didn’t just win — he chose when to win.
From a three-peat with Real Madrid to turning down chaotic clubs like Manchester United and Juventus, Zidane played the long game while the world questioned him. Was he carried by superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modrić, and Toni Kroos — or was he the mastermind behind it all?
In this episode, we break down Zidane’s legacy, the criticism around his success, and the bold decision to wait for the right opportunity — now set to take over the French national team.
More importantly, we unpack the lessons: patience in a world that rushes you, protecting your legacy, and knowing when to walk away — even when the spotlight is calling.
Because sometimes, the real power move… is waiting.
Sacrfice
2026/03/28
In this episode, we dive into the uncomfortable truth behind championships — sacrifice. Not the motivational quote version, but the real kind… where someone has to give something up, or even be given up.
I break down how Marcus Smart was sacrificed by the Boston Celtics in their pursuit of a title, how DeMar DeRozan was moved by Toronto despite his loyalty, and how Kevin Love had to take a backseat to LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to make a championship run work.
This episode explores a deeper question:Is success really about talent… or about who’s willing (or forced) to sacrifice?
Because in sports — and in life — not everyone can be the hero. Some people have to become the cost of greatness.
Are Villains really the bad guys ?
2026/03/21
n today’s world, being the “good guy” doesn’t always win the crowd — sometimes, it’s the villains who get the love.
In this episode, I dive into why society is increasingly drawn to characters who bend the rules, challenge norms, and carry that undeniable aura. From Tommy Shelby to Patrick Bateman, and even the contrast between Batman and Superman, we explore why the darker, more complex figures often feel more compelling than the traditional heroes.
I take it beyond entertainment and into sports — where the same pattern shows up. Why do fans gravitate toward the edge and intensity of Michael Jordan over LeBron James? Why do the dominant, unapologetic personalities like Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal capture more attention than the quiet greatness of Tim Duncan? And today, is the rising appeal of Anthony Edwards over Jayson Tatum another example of this same shift?
This episode breaks down the psychology of aura, edge, and perception — and asks a bigger question:
Are villains really the bad guys… or are they just the ones bold enough to be real?
Lessons from This Week’s Sports: UCL Drama, Bam’s 83 & Maxx Crosby to Baltimore
2026/03/13
In this episode, I break down the latest stories shaking up the sports world and the deeper lessons behind them. From the drama of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, to Bam Adebayo’s unbelievable 83-point performance, and the big Maxx Crosby move to Baltimore, we look at what these moments say about pressure, perseverance, and preparation.
Sports are never just about the scoreboard. Every game carries a lesson — about mindset, belief, and the unseen forces that shape greatness. In this episode, I connect the biggest headlines in sports to the principles we can apply in everyday life.
If you love sports, storytelling, and the deeper meaning behind the game, this episode is for you.
Remove the Amorims in your life !
2026/03/06
Manchester United have won six of their last seven Premier League games since the departure of Ruben Amorim. But this episode isn’t just about football — it’s about life.
Sometimes the biggest improvement doesn’t come from adding something new, but from removing what’s holding you back. In this episode, I break down Manchester United’s recent form under Michael Carrick and use it as a metaphor for something we all experience: the people, habits, or environments that quietly limit our potential.
Just like United had to move on from Amorim to rediscover their rhythm, sometimes we have to remove the “Amorims” in our own lives — the influences that prevent us from becoming the best version of ourselves.
Sports reflects life more than we think. And sometimes the lesson isn’t about tactics or talent… it’s about clarity.
Pilot — What the MVP Race Says About Life
2026/02/27
In this pilot episode, I break down the MVP debate between Cade Cunningham and Jaylen Brown — two players having elite seasons in very different ways. But this isn’t just a basketball conversation.
This episode looks at what the MVP race actually tells us about leadership, perception, and recognition. Is value about building something from the ground up? Or about stepping up when everything changes? And why do some narratives stick longer than reality?
Through the lens of sports, I explore what this debate says about life — growth, responsibility, and how we define impact.
