Description

Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise is a podcast dedicated to helping survivors understand, heal from, and ultimately overcome the devastating psychological effects of narcissistic abuse. In each episode, Jill explores the complex dynamics of narcissistic relationships, including manipulation tactics, trauma bonds, gaslighting, and the long term impact of emotional abuse. Jill Wise is a trauma informed narcissistic abuse recovery coach and a lifelong survivor of narcissistic abuse herself. She was raised by a malignant narcissistic father, and later married a malignant narcissist and had a child with him. Her life was profoundly impacted by years of psychological abuse, including the parental kidnapping and severe parental alienation involving her son, which led to more than a decade of painful family court battles. Through thoughtful discussion, psychological insight, and compassionate guidance, Jill helps listeners make sense of what they experienced, break free from trauma bonds, and begin rebuilding their confidence, identity, and peace of mind. If you have ever questioned your reality, struggled to understand narcissistic behavior, or wondered how to truly heal after abuse, this podcast will offer clarity, validation, and hope. Top 10 Things Narcissists Do When They Know You've Figured Them Out
2026/09/30
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise, we’re talking about what can happen when a narcissist realizes something has changed in you—you’re no longer confused, you’re no longer responding the way you used to, and most importantly, you’ve finally figured out the pattern. When the strategies that once kept you compliant stop working, the narcissist may begin trying different ways to regain control. It can start with intense love bombing and promises of change. If that doesn’t work, flying monkeys may suddenly appear to convince you that you’re overreacting, everything is fine, and you simply need to go back to the way things were. From there, you may see increased provocation, gaslighting, narcissistic rage, smear campaigns, and an intense need to control the narrative. In this episode, I break down 10 behaviors you may see when a narcissist realizes you’ve figured them out, including why they may suddenly become incredibly loving, why other people may be recruited to influence you or gather information, why your changing reactions can make them realize they are losing control, and why the smear campaign may become increasingly aggressive when their other attempts fail. We also discuss some of the more serious behaviors that can occur when an abusive relationship is ending, including financial abuse, threats and intimidation, the use of private information as leverage, stalking and post-separation abuse, legal abuse, and the ways children can sometimes be pulled into an ongoing power struggle. Not every narcissistic person will engage in every behavior discussed in this episode, and these behaviors are not exclusive to narcissism. But understanding the larger pattern can help you recognize something incredibly important: sometimes the escalation isn’t happening because you suddenly became difficult. It’s happening because the strategies that once controlled you aren’t working anymore.  And maybe that’s what “figuring them out” really means. You stopped chasing. You stopped explaining. You stopped treating every accusation like an assignment. You started paying attention to patterns instead of getting lost inside each individual incident. Maybe the old relationship isn’t working anymore because the old version of you is no longer available for the job. CONTENT NOTE: This episode includes discussion of domestic abuse, intimidation, threats, stalking, financial abuse, coercive control, and post-separation abuse. Please listen with care and prioritize your safety if any of these subjects reflect your current situation. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence or abuse in the United States, you can contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline 24/7 at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), text START to 88788, or visit thehotline.org. What Narcissists are TERRIFIED You Will Discover About Them
2026/09/23
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise, we’re exploring one of the most fascinating contradictions in narcissism: narcissists desperately want to be seen, admired, validated, and understood—yet they can become deeply threatened when someone begins to truly see who they are behind the mask. There is an enormous difference between being admired and being known. In the beginning of a narcissistic relationship, you may know the person primarily through the version of themselves they present to you. But time creates history. Intimacy creates information. And eventually, you begin noticing the contradictions between who they need you to believe they are and what their behavior consistently reveals. In this episode, we take a deeper look at why genuine intimacy can feel so threatening to someone with a fragile sense of self, how shame and projection can protect the narcissist’s carefully constructed identity, and why the person who once seemed to love how deeply you understood them may eventually resent you for understanding them too well. We’ll also explore why survivors can spend years questioning their own perception, how manipulation can slowly make the narcissist’s version of reality more important than your own, and what happens when you finally stop listening to the explanations and start trusting the patterns. Because perhaps one of the most powerful moments in narcissistic abuse recovery is when you stop asking, “Which version of them was real?” and begin asking a much more important question: “What does their repeated behavior tell me?” Maybe you weren’t becoming harder to love. Maybe you were becoming harder to fool. And sometimes the most threatening thing you can discover behind the narcissist’s mask isn’t simply who they are—it’s that you no longer need them to tell you what is real. Why Narcissists are Never Happy - No Matter What You Do
2026/09/16
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise, we’re taking a deeper look at one of the most exhausting realities of being in a relationship with a narcissist: nothing ever seems to be enough. No matter how much love, reassurance, attention, patience, forgiveness, or understanding you give them, the goalposts keep moving. And over time, you can begin to believe their chronic dissatisfaction is evidence that you are somehow failing. But what if their unhappiness was never yours to fix? In this episode, we explore the psychology behind chronic narcissistic dissatisfaction, the role of entitlement and external validation, why getting exactly what they say they want often fails to satisfy them for long, and how constantly trying to earn their approval can slowly erode your identity and self-trust. We’ll also talk about the important difference between contributing to someone’s happiness and becoming responsible for it, why survivors can spend years trying to solve an internal problem with external sacrifices, and the freedom that comes when you finally stop measuring your worth by someone else’s inability to appreciate it. If you’ve spent years thinking, “If I could just do enough, love them enough, understand them enough, maybe we could finally have peace,” this episode may help you see the relationship—and yourself—very differently. Their inability to be satisfied was never proof that you weren’t enough. Why Narcissists Ruin Every Good Moment
2026/09/10
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise, we’re talking about something almost every survivor of narcissistic abuse will recognize: the narcissist’s uncanny ability to ruin what should have been a perfectly good moment. Birthdays. Holidays. Vacations. Anniversaries. Weddings. Graduations. Accomplishments. Sometimes it isn’t even a special occasion—you’re simply happy, relaxed, laughing, or enjoying yourself. And almost as if they can sense your peace, something suddenly changes. There’s an argument. A criticism. A mood. An accusation. A crisis. And before you know it, the joy is gone and all of your attention is focused on them again. Why does this happen so consistently? In this episode, I explore the psychology behind why narcissists so often sabotage happiness, including their pathological envy, need for attention, desire for control, and difficulty tolerating situations where they are not the emotional center of your world. We’ll also talk about why your happiness and independence can feel threatening to a narcissist—and why destroying a good moment can become another way of controlling the emotional temperature of a relationship. But there is another consequence of this behavior that survivors don't always recognize. When happiness is repeatedly followed by conflict, punishment, criticism, or chaos, your nervous system begins learning that joy isn't safe. Eventually you may stop looking forward to birthdays, dread holidays, become anxious on vacations, minimize your accomplishments, hide good news, or find yourself waiting for something bad to happen whenever life is going well. And those patterns can remain long after the narcissist is gone. Healing isn't only about understanding what happened to you. It's also about reclaiming everything narcissistic abuse taught you to fear—including happiness, peace, celebration, connection, and the ability to be fully present in your own life. If you've ever wondered why the narcissist seemed determined to ruin every good moment—or why you still have difficulty relaxing when everything is going well—this episode is for you. If you're healing from narcissistic abuse, trauma bonding, gaslighting, emotional abuse, or Complex PTSD, I offer private one-on-one coaching, a comprehensive narcissistic abuse recovery course, and a supportive private community. Visit www.jillwise.com to learn more about working with me and the resources I offer. And please remember: your happiness was never the problem. You are allowed to have good moments. You are allowed to keep them. And you are allowed to build a life where nobody gets to punish you for being happy. Why the Narcissist Needs You to be the Villain
2026/08/19
Send us Fan Mail Have you ever wondered how someone can lie to you, manipulate you, betray you, psychologically abuse you—and somehow walk away completely convinced that you were the problem? One of the most confusing and painful parts of narcissistic abuse is watching the narcissist completely rewrite the history of your relationship until they become the victim and you become the villain. But this isn't always as simple as refusing to take accountability. For a narcissistic person, making you the “bad guy” can serve a much deeper psychological purpose. In this episode, we're going to explore why narcissists may actually need you to be the villain, how projection allows them to place their own shame and unacceptable behavior onto you, why your reactions to prolonged abuse can later be used as “evidence” against you, and why smear campaigns are often about much more than revenge. We'll also talk about one of the hardest parts of healing: accepting that the narcissist may never acknowledge what really happened—and learning that you don't need their agreement in order to trust your own reality. Because eventually, healing stops being about proving you weren't the villain in someone else's distorted story. It becomes about finally realizing you never needed their permission to know who you are. The Narcissist's Greatest Addiction: Controlling Your Mind
2026/08/06
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise, we are taking a deep dive into one of the narcissist’s most powerful and destructive addictions: controlling your mind. Narcissistic abuse is not only about controlling what you do. It is about controlling how you think, how you interpret reality, how you see yourself, and eventually, what you believe you are capable of. Through gaslighting, criticism, manipulation, confusion, emotional punishment, and constant reality distortion, the narcissist slowly attempts to become the dominant voice inside your head. Over time, you may begin questioning your judgment, doubting your instincts, second-guessing your memories, and looking to the narcissist for approval, direction, and emotional stability. And that is exactly where they want you—disconnected from your own truth and increasingly dependent on their version of reality. In this episode, we discuss: • Why controlling your mind is more important to the narcissist than controlling your behavior • How gaslighting destroys trust in your own perceptions • Why narcissists create confusion and emotional instability • How criticism and manipulation become internalized • Why survivors begin hearing the narcissist’s voice inside their own minds • How fear, guilt, obligation, and self-doubt are used as tools of control • Why narcissists need you disconnected from your instincts and identity • The connection between mind control, trauma bonding, and dependency • How prolonged narcissistic abuse changes the way you think and respond • How to begin reclaiming your mind, your voice, and your sense of reality One of the deepest injuries caused by narcissistic abuse is that long after the relationship ends, the narcissist’s influence may still remain. You may continue questioning yourself, anticipating criticism, suppressing your needs, and making decisions based on fear rather than freedom. Healing begins when you recognize that the voice telling you that you are weak, incapable, too sensitive, or impossible to love was never your voice to begin with. If this episode resonated with you and you are trying to make sense of narcissistic abuse, trauma bonding, gaslighting, or Complex PTSD, I offer private coaching, a comprehensive recovery course, and a supportive private community to help you move forward in your healing journey. When Your Pain Finally Finds Purpose
2026/07/31
Send us Fan Mail When Your Pain Finally Finds a Purpose Pain has the power to change us—but we get to decide how it changes us. In this episode, I want to talk about one of the most important lessons I've learned, both personally and through years of working with survivors of narcissistic abuse, emotional abuse, and complex trauma: healing isn't about erasing your past. It's about refusing to let your pain have the final say. We'll explore the difference between living from your wounds and living from your wisdom, why suffering doesn't have to define your future, and how some of life's deepest heartbreaks can become the very foundation of your greatest strength, purpose, and fulfillment. If you've ever wondered whether everything you've been through can somehow mean something... if you've ever questioned whether you'll feel like yourself again... or if you're ready to stop merely surviving and start building a life you genuinely love, this episode is for you. Because the goal isn't to pretend your pain never happened. The goal is to take more from it than it ever took from you. The Female Narcissist's Obsession with Destroying Other Women
2026/07/15
Send us Fan Mail Why are some female narcissists so relentlessly obsessed with destroying other women? It goes far beyond jealousy. In many cases, it is driven by pathological envy, a desperate need for superiority, and a fragile identity that depends on tearing others down. In this episode, I explore the psychological dynamics behind why certain female narcissists become fixated on discrediting, humiliating, sabotaging, and competing with women they perceive as a threat. We'll discuss the role of pathological envy, projection, smear campaigns, triangulation, reputation destruction, and why simply existing confidently can trigger their deepest insecurities. If you've ever found yourself targeted by a woman who seemed determined to destroy your relationships, your reputation, your career, or your peace of mind, this episode will help you understand that her behavior was never truly about you. It was about protecting the illusion she desperately needs to maintain about herself. Understanding these dynamics can help you stop personalizing the abuse, recognize the warning signs sooner, and begin healing from the psychological damage left behind. If this episode resonates with you, please consider following the podcast, leaving a review, and sharing it with someone who may need to hear it. Emotional Incest: How Narcissistic Mothers Destroy Their Sons' Adult Relationships
2026/07/01
Send us Fan Mail Emotional incest is one of the most damaging—and least understood—forms of narcissistic abuse. In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse, Jill Wise takes a deep dive into the hidden dynamic between narcissistic mothers and their sons, and how this unhealthy emotional enmeshment can profoundly affect the son's identity, emotional development, and future relationships. Unlike healthy parent-child relationships that encourage independence and emotional growth, emotional incest places a child in the role of emotional caretaker, confidant, or surrogate spouse. Over time, the child learns that his purpose is not to become his own person, but to meet his mother's emotional needs. As an adult, this often creates deep feelings of guilt, obligation, and loyalty that make healthy romantic relationships extremely difficult. In this episode, you'll learn: • What emotional incest really is—and what it is not • How narcissistic mothers create pathological enmeshment with their sons • Why the "golden child" is especially vulnerable to this dynamic • Why many emotionally enmeshed sons never fully individuate into adulthood • How unresolved anger toward the mother is often displaced onto wives and girlfriends • Why the narcissistic mother almost always comes first in the relationship • How this dynamic damages marriages and long-term partnerships • Why change is unfortunately very rare unless the son recognizes the abuse and establishes firm boundaries If you've ever felt like you were competing with your partner's mother, constantly coming second, or questioning why your relationship never seemed to come first, this episode may provide the clarity and validation you've been searching for. Why Narcissists Rewrite History: The Terrifying Truth Behind Their Distorted Thinking
2026/06/17
Send us Fan Mail Have you ever tried to confront a narcissist with undeniable proof, only to watch them completely rewrite what happened right in front of you? One of the most disturbing aspects of narcissistic abuse is realizing that the narcissist often seems to be living in an entirely different reality than everyone else. In this episode, we explore the terrifying truth behind why narcissists rewrite history, distort facts, deny events, and create entirely new narratives that protect their fragile self-image. We'll discuss the psychological defenses driving this behavior, the role of shame, cognitive distortions, confabulation, gaslighting, and why their version of reality can become so convincing—not only to others, but often to themselves. You'll learn why arguing with a narcissist rarely leads to accountability, why their stories seem to change over time, and how these distortions can leave victims questioning their own memories, perceptions, and sanity. Most importantly, we'll talk about how to protect yourself from becoming trapped inside someone else's manufactured reality. If you've ever wondered how a narcissist can deny things they clearly said, rewrite years of history, or genuinely believe a version of events that bears little resemblance to the truth, this episode will help you understand what's really happening beneath the surface. Healing begins when you stop trying to make sense of their reality and start trusting your own. 🧠 Resources & Support If you're healing from narcissistic abuse, parental alienation, or Complex PTSD and would like additional support, I offer one-on-one coaching, an in-depth recovery course, and a private healing community designed specifically for survivors. 🌐 Website: www.jillwise.com ❤️ Work With Me: • One-on-One Coaching • Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Course • The Recovery Circle Private Community Thank you for listening to Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise. The Narcissist's Obsession with Destroying Your Confidence
2026/06/04
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise, we take a deep dive into one of the primary goals of narcissistic abuse: the systematic destruction of your confidence. Many survivors enter these relationships as confident, capable, intelligent, empathetic people, only to find themselves years later questioning their worth, doubting their judgment, and feeling disconnected from the person they once were. This is not an accident. It is often the result of a gradual process of criticism, gaslighting, comparison, invalidation, manipulation, and emotional conditioning designed to erode self-trust and increase dependency. In this episode, we explore: • Why confident people often attract narcissists  • How narcissists slowly chip away at self-esteem  • The role of criticism, comparison, and gaslighting  • Why narcissists minimize your accomplishments  • How they create dependency on their approval  • Why they isolate you from supportive people  • How your strengths are often rewritten as flaws  • The connection between confidence, self-trust, and personal freedom  • Why identity erosion is one of the most damaging consequences of narcissistic abuse  • How survivors can begin rebuilding confidence and reconnecting with themselves Most importantly, we discuss why confidence is so threatening to narcissists in the first place. Because the more confident, independent, and self-aware you become, the harder you are to manipulate, control, and emotionally dominate. If you have ever wondered why you left a narcissistic relationship feeling smaller than when you entered it, this episode will help you understand the psychological dynamics behind that experience—and how to begin reclaiming the parts of yourself that were never truly lost. Reactive Abuse: When the Narcissist Pushes You Until You Break
2026/05/20
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise, we are taking a very deep dive into one of the most confusing and psychologically devastating aspects of narcissistic abuse: reactive abuse. If you have ever found yourself wondering, “What if I was the abusive one?” or “Why did I become someone I didn’t even recognize during that relationship?” this episode is for you. We will be exploring how narcissists intentionally provoke emotional reactions through prolonged gaslighting, manipulation, invalidation, emotional withholding, and psychological torment—then use your reaction against you as “proof” that you are unstable, irrational, or abusive. In this episode, we discuss: What reactive abuse actually isWhy healthy people eventually snap under prolonged abuseHow narcissists weaponize your reactionsWhy survivors feel so much shame afterwardThe nervous system and CPTSD effects of narcissistic abuseTrauma bonds and emotional conditioningWhy outsiders often misunderstand abuse dynamicsHow narcissists provoke reactions while appearing calm publiclyIdentity erosion and emotional dysregulationWhy survivors become trapped in guilt and self-doubt long after the relationship endsMost importantly, this episode is about helping survivors understand that their worst reaction inside prolonged abuse does not define their character. Healing begins when you stop viewing yourself only through the lens of your reaction and start understanding the environment that created it. Top 15 Toxic Behaviors of the Female Narcissist
2026/05/06
Send us Fan Mail In this episode, we’re diving deep into the top toxic behaviors of the female narcissist and the devastating psychological impact these women can have on the people closest to them. From extreme competitiveness and pathological envy, to manipulative punishments, triangulation, emotional unpredictability, and the constant need for control, we’re breaking down the patterns that so many survivors experience but often struggle to explain. Female narcissists can be incredibly covert, relational, and emotionally manipulative, which is why these dynamics are so confusing and damaging over time. Many hide behind carefully crafted images of being nurturing, supportive, selfless, or misunderstood, while privately creating chaos, insecurity, self-doubt, and emotional instability in the lives of others. In this episode, we’ll explore how these behaviors slowly erode your confidence, your boundaries, your sense of reality, and eventually even your identity. Because narcissistic abuse is not just about isolated incidents—it’s about repeated psychological conditioning that changes how you think, feel, and see yourself over time. If you’ve ever felt emotionally exhausted, confused, anxious, or like you were constantly walking on eggshells around someone, this episode will help you better understand the toxic dynamics at play and why these relationships can be so psychologically damaging. And most importantly, it will help you stop blaming yourself for what you experienced. Inside the Delusional Mind of a Narcissist
2026/04/22
Send us Fan Mail In this episode, we’re diving deep into one of the most disturbing and misunderstood aspects of narcissistic abuse—the delusional mindset that drives it. Narcissists don’t just behave in harmful ways… they operate from a completely distorted version of reality, and over time, they will try to pull you into that reality with them. We’re going to break down the most common delusions narcissists believe, from expecting you to read their mind, to believing they are entitled to control, loyalty, and even the right to mistreat you without consequence. And more importantly, we’re going to talk about how these beliefs slowly condition you to question yourself, override your instincts, and accept things you never would have accepted before. Because this is how the abuse works. It’s not just what they do—it’s what they convince you to believe. If you’ve ever found yourself apologizing for things you didn’t do, taking responsibility for their behavior, or feeling like you’ve lost your sense of reality in the relationship, this episode is going to bring clarity to what you experienced. And once you see it clearly, you can’t unsee it. This episode will help you understand the psychological trap, break free from the confusion, and begin reconnecting with your own reality, your own instincts, and your own truth.
